Absolutely lovely Sunday lunch, home made Yorkshire pudding, Hereford roast beef and all the trimmings, all well cooked and very tasty, all nice and hot. The staff were friendly and attentive. I was full after dinner but I couldn’t resist having Crème brûlée and homemade shortbread, to die for. Highly recommended you won’t be disappointed

Just popped in for a quick beer on a lovely spring day at somewhere you can sit outside. Just wanted to recommend the landlord. Its such a great thing to get a warm welcome at a pub I dont often visit. And to have a brief chat and banter with the landlord. I dont know why, but this seems unusual nowadays. And the locals were also very friendly and chatty If I wanted to design a local close to my home, I would base it on here !

We went for a family meal. Our table was by the gents toilets and unfortunately there was a slight aroma from them whenever the door to the toilet was opened. My main was a cheese and bacon burger with chips. The chips were very thin fries that tasted like frozen french fries, and the burger, bacon and bun were all dry and the meat was very salty. However the visit was redeemed by an excellent crumble dessert, and a charming and helpful member of staff who was very smiley and obliging.

Dining at The Sun Inn on a Wednesday evening was an overall excellent experience. The pub itself was clean and well decorated. There were plants, and a unique bookcase wallpaper where we were sat which added to the atmosphere, and i loved this. We were served by a lovely lady with amazing service, and we were well looked after. Immediately after sitting down we were greeted by our server, and what we'd like to drink, and given menus. Pint was a 10/10 as usual. STARTER: BAKED CAMEMBERT. The food itself was great. We shared a baked camembert for a starter. The cheese itself was standard in flavour and came in a little black pot (very handy to prevent it spilling everywhere). We were given small toasted ciabatta pieces. They were very crunchy/crispy, but was plenty to share between us. I think soft bread would've been a more filling option, and the ciabatta was something we've never had with camembert before, but complimented it. For a dip, I'm usually not a fan of cranberry sauce, but this combination was incredible. A slight sour twang in a sweet sauce accompanied the cheese well. Overall rated 8/10 for this, just would've been nice to have more dipping bits... like peppers! MAINS: PIE AND BEEF DISH. After waiting about 5/10 minutes (great rest period from starter to main), we got our main dishes. I ordered pie of the day, of which was some sort of leek and ham pie with a rich creamy white sauce. This came with mash or chips, of which i chose the latter. They were very crunchy but soft and fluffy in the middle (perfect type of chip if you ask me). It also came with a mixed veg dish which includes approx. 2 broccoli, 2 cauliflower, a few sliced carrots, and about 5 Brussel sprouts. It was all cooked to perfection. I don't think it was needed with the pie though as the portion size was great. However, it made a nice sharing side. My only fault when this came out is the lack of gravy. It was a standard sort of gravy (bit like a bisto best), but i still wanted more to really soak everything in it. The pastry was chewy (my favourite kind), and was slightly flaky on the top, without being crumbly. I think this is the ideal pastry for a pie. I can't say it was my favourite pie ever, but was definitely a great contender against a pukka pie. Overall 9/10 on the chips, and a 6/10 all together. I would definitely recommend, despite being a lower rating. My friend had a beef dish (was a bit like a slow cooked piece), and was covered in a rich gravy sauce. The meat fell apart in your mouth, and was full of flavour. I believe it came with parsnips and carrots. Overall 7/10 for this dish. I would recommend. To conclude my review, I think the Sun Inn in Cottesmore was a good experience. I'd definitely recommend people eating here, if not for the food, but for the service. I'd give it all a 8 rating out of 10. I'm writing this as someone who is starting out reviewing food for fun, hoping it helps!

We arrived after changing the time of our booking twice due to the bad weather and there had been no fuss about us doing this. Our table was ready and we thought we were being difficult with one coeliac and one having a pepper allergy but the staff could not have been more careful and caring. The chef came out to speak to the coeliac to say what they could do for him and could provide plenty of choice. Drinks were served quickly and the food was perfection with 3 totally clean plates going back to the kitchen. All this alone would have produced a positive review from me but the staff went above and beyond to help us and special mention has to go to Stephanie whose sense of humour really made our evening exceptional. She replied to every comment made with a quip of her own and had us laughing out loud. She is a real asset to the Sun in making customers feel happy and relaxed and we would return just to laugh with her again as well as to enjoy the excellent food. Thoroughly recommended.

The food was delicious and service excellent. We were asjed about allegines befire we ordered, always a goid sign that they care. Our men had sausage and mash with resh veg which they said was delicious, 3 sausages plenty of veg and perfect mash. Also provided with an extra jug of gravy which was very appreciated. My friend and I shared a camenbert starter along with sweet potato fries, more than enough for us. Unusual decor too. We really enjoyed our lunch, thank you to the friendly, efficient staff.

Guests can savor dishes such as roast venison with beetroot or sea bass with saffron velouté, paired with an extensive selection of fine wines from the cellar. The dining experience is further enhanced by attentive service and an inviting atmosphere. Afternoon tea at Hambleton Hall is another highlight. Served in the drawing room or on the terrace overlooking the gardens, it includes a delectable assortment of finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones, and pastries. Gardens and Surroundings The hotel is surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens that provide a tranquil escape. Strolling through the grounds, visitors can admire manicured lawns, colorful flower beds, and serene water features. Beyond the gardens lies Rutland Water, a sprawling reservoir and nature reserve.
