Visited on 25th Jan 25. The atmosphere and design of the restaurant is lovely and overlooking the harbour is perfect. We had visited 2 weeks previously and had the Saturday Steak special and it was fabulous. On this occasion the steak was not as good. However we will definitely be back, to try the remainder of the menu. We had a lovely waitress I believe her name is MARTA, so helpful, polite and welcoming us to Portishead. Rarely as a tourist do you get such knowledgable people to chat and give local information, so willingly. We also chatted to MARCUS when we were leaving who explained the brewery’s history which was very interesting. Exceptional staff. Thanks again, see you soon.

Popped in for a drink but as a bit peckish ended up having a couple of small dishes. I had the cheesey garlic mushrooms which were delicious, we also had the meatballs and club sandwich which were also delicious. Served by Harrison and his colleagues Simon & Birte all very helpful and friendly.

We booked for Christmas Day and expected delays, but nothing like this. The food, once it arrived, was on par with a school dinner and we had to ask for gravy for our roasts! Arrived at 14:30, seated at 15:00, paid at 18:15. We were only fortunate to have an outstanding server who took pity on us. Probably the worst restaurant experience I can recall.

It was very hot in the restaurant and the food was diabolical:( Considering what we paid per person the food was extremely poor quality. The Christmas pudding was literally a cheap tiny microwave one like what you would find in a pound shop with powder custard! So disappointing as I had a normal menu lunch at this chain in Bath and it was lovely.

Was a lovely night, got lovely service from the gentleman harrison, will come again. Had a lovely time and the environment was calming !

We were so disappointed with our visit this week. My friend has a dairy allergy, they gave her the menu and it transpired almost every meal had dairy in, the only one that didn't she didn't like. It transpires that in the last 6 months they've implemented a very strict policy when it comes to allergies, they will not even entertain amending anything about the meal, she couldn't have steak and chips because they use butter, fish and chips because of the tartar sauce which she was happy to just leave to one side. If they were to sell a meal to her that had any dairy on the menu they would be sacked for gross miscondunt. She ended up just ordering 2 portions of chips and 1 of onion rings and was mortified! We've been out many times, even to Hall and Woodhouse and never had this issue. I get being careful but when all common sense goes out the window they've just gone too far. If you have any sort of intolerance I would go somewhere else.

I recently visited with family for a meal and was very impressed with the service especially from Simon and Sarah they couldn’t do enough for us.

The Hole in the Wall in Portishead, part of the Woodhouse chain, offers a fantastic dining experience with a focus on hearty, classic pub food and a few creative twists. The menu has a variety of options, from flavorful burgers to perfectly cooked steaks, as well as some delightful vegetarian and vegan choices. The Sunday roast is a highlight, with generous portions, tender meats, and all the trimmings, including crispy roast potatoes and rich gravy. Starters and sides are well-prepared and fresh, and the desserts, especially the sticky toffee pudding, are indulgent and delicious. The quality and consistency make it a great spot for a satisfying meal.

Absolutely vile food and left hungry. Avoid this place if you are at all hungry and like real food ! Shame as nice venue but it’s very over priced for the standards

A group of 8 of us came to H&W for a Sunday dinner and received a friendly welcome. Our drinks orders and food orders were taken quickly and delivered in good time as well. It was a very pleasant atmosphere and at no point were we rushed to empty the table. I know! This doesn't read like a 2 star review. I'm afraid the food was disappointing. Disappointing and expensive. The portions for a Sunday Lunch at over £18 was meagre to say the least. My pork roast consisted of 2 small slices of pork, a strip of carrot, a strip of parsnip, a Yorkshire pudding, 3 roast potatoes, a handful of peas and unspecified spiralled veg. The splash of gravy was on the verge of insulting but not as insulting as the price of extra gravy as part of a seperate "sides platter" with cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets. I'm really sad to say this, but we feel ripped off. For the price we paid at H&W we would expect a plateful of delicious food, and for a fraction of this price in most other Sunday Lunch specialists, you would get it. I'm afraid we won't be going again.

We came across this restaurant while walking around Portishead harbour and decided to sit outside as the weather was nice. After easy ordering the food arrived- I chose the club sandwich and it was delicious, my wife opted for salad and very much enjoyed it. Service very good and a nice location.

Visited for a Fathers Day lunch today, group of 6. Waited nearly one hour for food, and when it did arrive it was barely warm. None of the waiting staff came over to ask how our food was during our meal, nor did they when our plates were collected. Having mentioned the food wasn’t warm I was met with the response ‘I’m sorry, it does happen I’m afraid’. Disappointing and clearly the staff member had had no training in dealing with customer complaints. A real shame as the roast dinner was tasty and I would have visited again.

What can I say just stopped off here to have a bite to eat , driving back from Cornwall to break the journey lovely setting but that’s it unfortunately 50 min wait for our food then it all came wrong , on a Monday god nos what it would be like when it’s busy please avoid should have stopped at a service station dreadful .

We visited H and W on Friday evening 24th may to listen to John Prescott, a local swing singer. Oh what a night!. He was absolutely fantastic. The whole experience was enhanced by the friendly staff, especially Marcus who was so helpful and amusing. We are so lucky to have this venue so close to hand and look forward to our next visit.

Held a suprise 50th birthday party upstairs at H&W back in March. All the way through the organising GM Danny & Harrison were very helpful and accommodating to my wishes when it came to layout, recommending a DJ and decorating the venue accordingly for me so took a lot of stress out of the day. We had approx 60/70 guests all who said the buffet food was amazing, standout favourite was the scotch egg and the plant based salt beef? Sandwiches but everyone said all the food was delicious. Thank you to those in the kitchen that night and to Ollie and Marta who ran the bar too. You all helped make it a special evening

A lovely place, very clean and with a view of the marina. The people are really friendly and helpful and the food is delicious with the best pizza I have ever had. Thoroughly recommended.

Marcus, Harrison and the team are friendly and always make you feel welcome. The pub has a great atmosphere and serves great food and a decent pint.

Southern fried burger really good. Stopped after work. Great food. Great service. Will be coming back most likely!

Visited with my girlfriend and friends. Beautiful sunny day so we sat outside and ordered via the QR code. Was quite busy but our drinks came in a reasonable amount of time. We ordered a few pints of lager as well as cocktails including a cosmopolitan, a mojito and a French revolution. Quite expensive but they didn't disappoint! Well worth the price on a hot day. Our drinks took 15 minutes which we were happy to wait. They were served with a smile and an apology for the wait which shows they really care about the guests. The cocktails were absolutely sublime, would definitely recommend. Didn't get the name of the bartender but he was quite tall and ginger, definitely deserves some recognition! Had a lovely chat with Simon as well who is always on hand to make our visit special. We will definitely be back to try some food and some more cocktails!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit with excellent food and drink. So dog friendly too with treats and water bowls. A wonderful atmosphere and a definite place to revisit time and again.

Excellent service from the get go with a friendly welcome at the door. The bar staff were excellent and couldn't have done more for us. Offered us ice cream with our kids meal that we didn't even know about! The Sunday roasts were beautiful. Beef was perfectly cooked. A little pricey but the service absolutely justifies the price! We will definitely be back

As it was our anniversary we booked the entire top floor for ourselves and no-one else. The atmosphere was great, table service was amazing and the food was excellent. Everyone else was downstairs enjoying a quiz night. We really enjoyed it - thanks !

I had a very nice meal of salmon fillet with bubble and squeak and veggies with hollandaise sauce. Fish had crispy top and was perfectly cooked. My hubby had shepherds pie with veggies. His was very tasty but such a meagre portion! Especially for a meal traditionally served as a largish pie. It looked like it had been sized using a biscuit pastry cutter!

Friendly and welcoming staff, fab food, informal and enjoyable environment. We had the dog with us too, dog water and biscuits available

No No No ! Staying locally came for a mid afternoon drink the barman thought he was being amusing when in fact he was being rude and insulting. Beer choice isn't in our top five but was fine for what it was. Came back for snack lunch (why oh why?) a couple of days later, he had steak ciabatta, it was about 2/3 size expected but was ok. The cauliflower "wings" were inedible, the cauliflower was mush and the batter flavourless and over greasy, cheap frozen rubbish.

The service was good and the waitress was happy to help and very attentive. The food was tasty and had reasonable portion sizes. The beef burger was slightly pink and I would have preferred it cooked for longer however this is a personal preference. The prices of the food are on the higher side but not unreasonable. I would visit again and recommend to friends and family.

Staff were friendly and attentive but the food was bland, stodgy, and overpriced. We ordered a soup, which was served with 2 piec es of plain bread,; avocado on toast where the avocado was just unripe chunks on toast with barely any dressing; and fried halloumi which came in a white roll meant to be ciabatta. The tiny amount of sriacha and slices of chilli gave no flavouring so the food was stodgy and tasteless. A "mug's eyefull" best describes it!

First visit here with a family group. Firstly it seemed everything we wanted was off the menu, it was only 1 o’clock , how can you run out of stuff by that time. What did arrive was small. I had the sausage and mash, the mash tasted like smash that you get out of a packet and the sausages over cooked with 2 onion rings on the top. We ordered 2 chocolate brownies and 1 was literally half the size of the other but the same price. The water glasses were dirty along with the table. Staff need a course in customer service, very uninterested in their customers. This place has the potential to be lovely but unfortunately it wasn’t a great place and very over priced. We don’t have any desire to return.

Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff. BUT OMG!!! A glass of wine and a pint of beer was £15.30 when I visited last night. I used to be a regular visitor here, the drinks were always a little more expensive (£3 for 2 drinks more than in Sirens around the corner). But now..... those 2 drinks are £5.60 more! My advice is drink elsewhere, somewhere where you won't feel like you have been ripped off. Sirens also has a view of the marina, not a car park. P.S. I am not associated with Sirens, I have just used them as a comparison!

Lovely venue, team were welcoming and provided great service, plenty of space, delicious food and good portion size.

We regularly visit H&W with either family or friends for just drinks or for food. Lovely decor, friendly staff, nice coffee and cake choices, never had a bad meal (feel though the breakfast does need a bigger serving of baked beans). Dog friendly too

Less than satisfactory food - chicken salad unimpressive. Avocado cold toast and hard egg. Just so so - unlikely to go back for a long while. Pity!

I had £30 worth of vouchers that were given to me by the management for another bad experience the last time we went there, I'm afraid nothing has changed, we all choose ham eggs and chips as menu very limited, the ham was awful, thick with dark rim to the edge, homemade piccalilli was peppers in mustard, yuk, long time waiting for dessert menu so choose to leave, they really need to get there act together, will NEVER go there again, and wouldt recommend.

One star is a push - Food was terrible.Told no steaks left seconds before the servers brought everyone’s mains out so had to change meal - then got told that also out so had to have my own mains after the table had finished there foods.Fish and chips taste like tuna for some reason and dry.The pitta bread was crispy and basically like Chinese prawn crackers..The steak were luke warm and one had literally frozen garlic sauce on top which had to be send back.Triple cooked chips are not triple cooked - blatantly, just poor oven chips.The burger was over cooked and dry with no flavour.The sauces on each meal on the side of the meals had a weird skin on.Most foods were straight from the microwave and although you would think this would then make them hot - they had inconsistent temperatures.Staff were poor and didn’t care.Manager not bothered - gave a feedback card to put online and offered no alternative or no decent responses.Manager says ‘shall I slap the chef’ - the reply was ‘no you should sack him’…Never again which is a shame as we use this place historically as our office is around the corner and was always nice before the new management.AVOID LIKE COVID

Terrible Sunday lunch. Pre-booked christening celebration meal. Meals were long awaited and cold when arrived. The veg was either soggy or under cooked, Potatoes were re-heated and oily, and our daughters meal didn’t even arrive. The tall barman was stuck up and unwelcoming and the manager was still masticating his food (at least he got his food) when he arrived to tell me all the food had arrived when it hadn’t. Really unhelpful and thoroughly disappointing. Won’t eat here again.

We visited this "restaurant" today (3rd April 22),The Sunday lunch was was pre booked for my grandsons christening, so they were expecting us.The meal came out barely luke warm, the broccoli was so hard you couldn't put a fork in it, and the separate bowls of veg didn't arrive, some of the meals were missing too, so we complained, they took the meals back and said they would do them fresh.After around 30 minutes later the meals started to arrive to the tables, again barely warm, again broccoli rock hard, roast potatoes had no colour and were cold on the inside, we had to wait approx 10 minutes for the veg to arrive, which was barely warm. Some of the guests didn't get their meals until others were finishing theirs, one person didn't get one at all, staff saying it hadn't been ordered, In addition to the disgusting meal, the wine glass I was served my drink in from the bar had rements of lipstick all round the rim, when my partner took it back to the bar, the barman didn't offer any appology and went to pour the drink into a clean glass, my partner had to tell him to serve a fresh drink.The baby changing unit in the restaurant area was broken, the other one was filthy, bearing in mind this was a christening and they were expecting babies.We were told that money had been taken of the total bill, but as we were all paying individually the staff couldn't work it out.We paid for one meal, I refused to pay for mine as it was unedible, and to charge £16.25 for a Sunday lunch is a total rip off for frozen veg, frozen Yorkshire puds, nothing fresh.Others paid for theirs, minus the so called discount, the last family to pay had a shock when staff tried to charge them an extra £40 on top of their bill, presumably to cover what they had discounted for the disgusting meal.I have never complained in a restaurant before, but this experience was beyond belief, we complained to 3 people who identified as managers, not one offered an appolgy.The waiting staff were doing their best, and appeared embarrassed, My son and his wife were really upset, this was their sons christening celebration and was totally ruined.H&W really need to look into this as there was 30 people today totally disgusted and will not be returning.I had to rate one star to submit review, they don't deserve any stars

Though we would drop in for a drink. Told at the door we could not get in without a reservation. There were lots of empty seats and tables. Unbelievable attitude. This place is going from bad to worst. Will not bother again.

Lovely setting, but food over priced and drinks expensive.Ordered food, when it arrived the veggie tagline was lukewarm and whilst tasty, was more like a thick soup, and not a very big portion. Sent it back to be reheated. Whilst the server apologised, they didn’t really care that the food wasn’t that warm,.Southern fried chicken flat bread very disappointing, garlic mayo was awful. Clearly had forgotten the meal as it arrived to the table several minutes after everyone else’s. The servers went to serve another table before bringing the dish out. Southern fried chicken burger was ok, but not very warm. Service was quite slow, but not busy inRestaurant, though I’m not surprised. Clearly lack of communication between servers as soon as we ordered another server would turn up to take our Oder. Ended up having desserts as mains hadn’t filled us up, not normally dessert people. Very small portions for the cost of food. Only had enough cheese for 1 cheese board! Really? Again this arrived late and had to remind staff we had ordered it, reposnse it’s on it way! Overall paid over £200 for 6 of us to eat and have 3 rounds of drinks ( I chose to drink the table water as wasn’t going to pay £3.45 for a can of Rio, which isn’t that nice! All decided that we wouldn’t go back again, even though it had come highly recommended. Felt utterly ripped off! On a plus point the waitresses were polite, helpful and very sweet. £70+ per couple for 2 courses of mediocre food and drinks, happy to pay for good food, but this wasn’t it. Nobody came to ask if it was ok so difficult to raise the issue on the evening, also felt that we would go unheard if we had done so .My biggest concern is that the kitchen staff are clearly sending out food that hasn’t been heated to the right temperature, this could be breech of food hygiene regulations. Sorry I cannot recommend a visit there.

H&W have been great at responding to my emails and were very accommodating when we asked to host a 3 hour meeting there. Staff were very helpful and drinks and food were fantastic with water provided on the tables. Nothing was too much. I was worried this would be a busy location/ noisy at times for the meeting but H&W put us in a separate part of the building away from other customers to enable a successful meeting. Very very satisfied and feel this deserves more than 5 stars! Thank you Team!

We have had the pleasure of planning an end of season luncheon with H&W. We booked the entire upstairs for the event with 100 guests and we were not disappointed. We were given a fabulous 3 course menu with a choice that could cater to everyone's food intolerance's. Danny the manager could not have been more helpful or attentive to our requests and helped what was a very stressful day for me to go off without a single issue. We have had nothing but glowing reviews from our customers and are very keen to get next years date booked in the diary. If you are looking for a venue in Portishead to host a large gathering with great food and service I would highly recommend getting in touch with Danny. Thank you for having us. Visited H&W today for lunch with the parents. Pretty busy for a mid week lunch time. Pleasant/efficient staff and food was nice. We had the double cheeseburger, chicken burger and the fishfinger cobb, all very filling. Thx H&W :)

Had lunch here on a Tuesday and it was fairly busy downstairs, we had a table upstairs so not so busy. All of the staff were just outstanding. Both the food and the drink were superb and I did try a pint of the Badgers Wyvern IPA which I can recommend. Would definitely go back here again, thank you.

Arrived into cold restaurant with 5 other people for Birthday meal, a fiasco from beginning to end, asked for diet coke they never asked what size glass so ended up with a pint, came and took our orders then came back and said most of what we ordered was not available, when we did manage to get what we finally asked for everyone had theirs but they forgot to cook mine, made a hasty cod and chips which was greasy, but did tell me they wouldnt charge me, never came and asked if we wanted more drinks, so they lost out there, never cleared the plates, absolutely disgusted with it and will never recommend or go there again, the place was almost empty so that says it all.

Visited H&W yesterday on my way back from the High Street. First time in a pub (or any such place - restaurant etc.) since before the pandemic started. So was really happy to go into somewhere I hadn't been able to go for over two years now.The barman who served me wouldn't engage with me in any conversation (nor the one who was stood doing nothing beside him) - never met such a grumpy person behind a bar (well, one but that's another story)! Let's be clear here too - this was about 13:30 and there was nobody else at the bar, they weren't busy at all - they just chose not to enter into conversation with me for reasons I don't know.So I bought my pint and sat at my table alone. Within ten minutes I was shivering (even with my coat on). I was clearly alone there and several members of staff walked past me in total about 50 times but not one thought to look at me, let alone smile at / talk to me, even if just to pass a pleasantry.After an hour or so I finished my pint and just left (I would have had another one but I really got the impression that they didn't want me in there!)None of the staff said goodbye or even thank you as I left.I'd been to H&W at least a dozen times pre-pandemic, but never again. I can't believe how unwelcome I was made to feel !!!I've lived in Portishead for 50 years and I've never experienced anything like that before. Come to think of it, I've never experienced anything like that anywhere in the world before, let alone at home in Portishead!Avoid this place and instead visit any of the other pubs in town - I'm still shocked 24 hours on by just how disengaged they were / remained towards me!

We have just been to H and W for a roast. At £15 a pop, the food was awful, cold hard potatoes, hard veg, gravy thin and tasteless. We complained so got 15% discount.Such a nice setting with a great view but the over priced food let’s it down and it needs to be sorted

Most importantly , staff was exceptional for their attitude and willingness to serve a very busy operation. Manager( Blonde lady ) was excellent, friendly ,welcoming and managing operations very effectively. We ordered light bites ( Scotch egg/tacos/sausage roll), food was excellent ( especially accompanied sauces) . Server was very good as well. Well done to all the team for such good atmosphere in not so easy times.

We had a fabulous evening here with our two doggies. Great food and drink and the most amazing welcome from Marcus the Manager. Can’t wait to visit again next time we are in the vicinity. Thanks Marcus and your team!!

Visited tonight for a family meal. Lovely atmosphere, attentive staff and great food. The scotch egg starter and the sausage roll a firm go to in our house. The burger & fish &triple cooked chips went down well too. Thank you H&W will be back

Can I give zero stars? The food was terrible along with the terrible jokes the front of house was throwing out. My partner had the pork roast which wasn’t from a pork joint it was two pork chops! I had fish and chips which was vile, my son had a burger which was tough and the bun was dry. We thought we would have desert which we wish we didn’t as my partner has hair in her crumble. The coffee I had was nice but that was about it. I understand why it was easy to get a table here at short notice on a Sunday now. 100% avoid this place for food unless you want rubbish food which comes at a high price!

Popped in for Sunday lunch to treat my daughter. Was ignored for at least 10mins then we ordered and when it came the roast was awful. The beef was inedible and I left it, very fatty and not the type that melts in your mouth either. It was as tough as boots and couldn’t be cut, chewed or swallowed. The veg and pots were just ok nothing special. It was hot inside and the aircon was off and not on as the host said! We aren’t stupid…… This was the first time I had eaten there in 6 years as I had two previous bad experiences before. Cost was £17 including the cauli cheese. It isn’t worth it - Never again

I popped in here for a Sunday lunch. It came to my table within 10 minutes of ordering but was stone cold with a jug of tepid gravy and served on a cold plate. As I was sitting outside I was ignored by the lads working there and no one came to take away my cold plate or ask how it is. I could not be bothered to complain. But I will never ever eat there again. This is a nice place for a drink but the food is a problem. This is my third visit in 2 months. The food was not great the first time but on a family visit last month we all enjoyed our meal.

Honestly only went there to grab a drink with my friend but was allowed to eat upstairs in the restaurant in which the service from Sarah was amazing and made me and my friend happy to be there and the food was great definitely a reccomendation for just drinks or somewhere to eat!

We came to the pub/eatery Friday night. Quite busy with boating people/locals. Just a generic pub really but by the marina. We had the chicken burger and the double burger. Seriously the chips were chewy and half cold, the presentation was all fashionable with a stick through the burger and chips in a silver pot.The burgers were chewy and truthfully chewy and like McDonalds or worse. Yes I have eaten at McDonalds. For the princely price of £13.95 each the profit margin is huge for a couple of measly burgers. Maybe £2.00 worth of overcooked food.

Wonderful lunch. Service impeccable and drinks great. So glad the old ways are back! Scotch egg was to die for! Roll on next time.

Since the pandemic, we are all desperate to get back out again and have a lovely, enjoyable dining experience wherever we choose. Unfortunately, this place fell well short of any of that.-there were about 6-8 staff members around but no one at the door to seat you promptly. The place was not full- Table was not set for service. Pepper mill missing, no cutlery.- ordered drinks at the bar and received chipped glass which was taken back only to have the bartender pour the drink into another glass. Not a fresh drink!-food arrived, Caesar salad with chicken & burger with chips.For the price it was shabby...half a bowl of soggy lettuce and a burger that was slammed together and a half filled container of chips. - was asked how it was by waitress who blamed the food on the new chef. - manager came over to hear what we had to say. He did the right thing and provided a full refund of mains and we promised never to return. What does it take to get good customer service in these times? I don't want my money back but I want good food and good customer service. This place failed in retaining us and that's a shame!

Went here for the second time in a month Just Went here for drinks and garlic bread. Lovely views of the harbour and even the toilets had lovely sea views. Nice comfy seats and the waitress gave my son a activity pack to do. Definitely go back there again

Harrison our server for the evening made the night! The food was lovely and the atmosphere great, but he was a pure joy! He made my friends and i laugh and kept everything going smoothly! A real asset!

Lovely atmosphere, relaxed and helpful/pleasant staff. Food was reasonable in quality and price but could do with better quality cutlery.

We have lived in Portishead for over 12 years and really enjoyed the food in the hall and Woodhouse up until a visit this August. I believe that the chain may have changed hands and food has just hit rock bottom to be completely honest. Burgers ordered were very dry and the bread was not fresh. The steak had to go back to be cooked to a medium.Whilst the service was very good the food really really let the place down. It was very very quiet the quality of the food was very very poor. I will not be returning there again for a long time and certainly not for food

Food took 40 min we didn’t mind as covid causes delays but …. Burgers were like eating cardboard and tasted re heated or had been sat around. Bun was stale and solid, relish had been left out uncovered and had a skin on it. Salad looked part frozen. Chips were good. Won’t be back and don’t recommend as there are lots of other lovely places including a bakery and a couple of pubs. Really disappointed. Staff were friendly.

I visited the restaurant as I have come to the area on holiday. The service was lack luster and the food was worse. It was edible but basic and not worth the price! Having been to aqua and paid a similar price there is no comparison. We did highlight our concerns to staff which were taken on board but overall not a great experience we would not come back.

Now is the time to go, excellent bar service. Food on point, zero complaints. Just like how it used to be. Thank you

I popped into h&w portishead on Friday afternoon with my partner and children. The staff were so friendly- we were welcomed pleasantly and they explained we could go to the bar and order now. A lovely guy named Marcus was so helpful and friendly and he even amazed my seven year old son with some magic tricks!! We live in portishead and this is definitely our favourite place to go for dinner and drinks so we will definitely be returning very soon.

Although we had had drinks here before we wanted to try the lunch. Although the atmosphere is good the meal was disappointing. I had the steak and ale pie, which was fine - I guess the actual pie was bought in - it had a good flavour and a solid but not heavy crust. My wife had the duck salad as a main. The meat was pale and the salad was colourless and very tired. Not worth £10.50p. On complaining the manager removed it from the bill. The chocolate and orange torte was ok but nothing special. Good on the chocolate but weak on the orange. The mint tea was made from dried leaves and as such was very weak. The service was ok taking into account that several of the staff were new trainees.With all the other places to eat nearby there is little to encourage us to return in the near future .

Went for dinner and drinks, sat outside facing the harbour which was lovely. Nice selection of gins and fairly priced menu considering the location. Would definitely visit again if ever in Portishead.

During an overnight stay in Portishead we visited Hall & Woodhouse for drinks, we sat at the outside area because we had a dog with us and it was lovely. The Staff were lovely and the Covid measures in place were exceptional, we felt so secure here that we decided to stay for food which was also lovely. I would definitely visit again if I was ever passing through Portishead. 10/10 for the efforts that have gone into making customers feel safe and secure during this time.

Popped in here on our way back from Devon. Have been here a few times just for drinks when walking round the marina but this time we ate. The food was lovely, the staff very welcoming and it was nice that they had separate outdoor smoking and non-smoking areas.

I used to enjoy bringing my team in for a convenient meal and drinks come the end of a busy week.However, standards here have really slipped over the past 6 months, particularly with regards to the starters. What was once ordered as a snacking option has left us wanting to leave to go grab some fish snd chips from the local chippy after a cold drink.Everything lacks flavour and is served as if you’re dinning at weatherspoons. It’s just not the place it once was. Service is always friendly and professional but there is no real consistency coming from the kitchen. It’s a real shame as our office is only a few minutes from the establishment but we no longer see much point in ordering food.

Not the best experienceAfter visiting many hall and Woodhouse establishments in the past I decided to have a day out to see my brother and decided to try this hall and Woodhouse as had recommendations from other H&W sites. Was rather disappointed as food was bog standard nothing special not great not bad just average but the staff were not well educated on what they sell and found they would rather be chatting amongst one another rather than be with their guests. Our starters arrive and the whitebait was without the tartare sauce by the time we found a member of staff to get some my brother had almost eaten it all and took another 7 minutes to get the sauce. I find that H&W usually excel in guest care but this restaurant would rather you didn’t come

The Service from our servers Matt and Millie was extradentary fantastic menu knowledge. Drinks were excellent food was brilliant will be coming back. Thank you so much!!!

This is the first time I've been in H&W, despite living in Portishead for a while. What a lovely venue! Really nice ambience, and not too busy either. The staff were top notch and really attentive - especially Tasha, who couldn't do enough for us! It was obvious she really enjoyed her job, and wanted to make all customers feel welcomed (which we did). Nice food and a good selection of ales too. I'll definitely be going back

Went for a Sunday roast with my family to treat my mother for her birthday. What a disappointment! List of problems from no beer (Guinness / beer moreti) , no wine, flat lemonade. List of problems with food: - no spoon given with soup- roast dinners tried to be given with starters!- roast dinner (given extra rare (even though not stated on menu it “comes this way”) - no mint sauces (“never have done apparently- even though I’ve had this previously). Approach manager for feedback and he is very aggressive, defensive and not willing to hear ANY feedback. Wanted to voice his opinion only - which we were the ones paying a price FOR WHAT - lack of drinks? Undercooked food? Poor service? Then were told due to experience he would remove the whole bill- then on exit made to pay for the drinks (this being the flat lemonade , beer (we did not want but the only one is stock (which was also flat) and a glass of wine (the last bit of the bottle they had!). Disgusting, appalling experience and will NEVER return even though this is the pub next door! I appreciate you have problems as you informed me- but I’m not paying for them.

Visited twice during our short stay in Portishead, once for tea (evening meal!) and once for a couple of drinks with friends. We were very warmly welcomed and the staff were excellent, particularly with our dog, offering water and treats to woo him, successfully I might add!Our food was excellent, I had the sea bream (pictured) which was to die for, and arrived in good time. In terms of ale/beer, we found the selection to be a little average, though partly due to them all being Badger beers (obviously) and no other options. Overall, a very nice chain pub/restaurant style, but definitely had the feel of a chain rather than a local place as such.

Perfect afternoon.. the staff were friendly, the app to order drinks was easy to use. All covid rules were implemented and followed by all staff and there was a good organised one way system to go to the loo. Definitely go again

After a pleasant walk around the Marina we decided to have an early tea. We signed in with the NHS app and policies seemed to be working well. We sat outside and looked at the boats. The service was good and so was the food. Happy with our visit.

Visited for Sunday lunch didn’t have a booking and they managed to get us seated and it was fantastic, beef was cooked lovely, lots of fresh vegetables and unlimited Yorkshire puddings & Gravy, whats not to love. Had a raspberry cheesecake for afters which was delicious. Service was great from Sarah and Millie with a nice relaxing atmosphere. Thank you

Cannot recommend H&W high enough after our visit today! One of our first indoor visits and we were made to feel so welcome by Josh (who went above and beyond for our little ones... Even some.bonus babychinos!) Thanks again!

Booked a table just for drinks as poor previous experience with food and service. Arrived and seated at 9pm, got our drinks at 940. Only 1 person appeared to be preparing drinks whilst several other team members doing very little. Twice now I’ve taken visiting family here and both times disappointed.

Fantastic location, good and drink. Tash did a brilliant job of looking after us when we stopped in for a quick bite to eat and drink.

Very welcoming and efficient service. Kept to strict Covid guidelines. We stayed for coffee and cakes.
