Naomi & Daniel seemed to be the only ones, front of house, in a busy pub / restaurant but they coped enthusiastically and well. Our group of 15 diners arrived 7.30pm and we ordered so many different dishes and the kitchen didn't disappoint! A bit of a wait but with 15 meals to prepare what else? Meals arrived all together and we were all impressed so, great food, great service and a well stocked bar. Well done Naomi, Daniel and the kitchen!

Outstanding! Great food, great service and lovely atmosphere. Ordered a vegetarian risotto which was fantastic - it's not often I say that about a risotto! Great flavours, texture and variety of ingredients. Generous portions - good value for money. Staff were friendly with the right level of attentiveness. Also had some gluten free IPA and best gluten and dairy free onion rings ever! Partner had halibut en papillotte which he described as one of the nicest meals he's ever had! Well worth a visit and much better than some other similar nearby restaurants!

We all thoroughly enjoyed Sunday lunch at The Chequers yesterday. One of the finest Sunday roasts we have ever had! Beautiful meat with delicious Yorkshire puddings, fine roast potatoes and a delicious array of vegetables. Great service and lovely atmosphere. The toilets are a bit tired but otherwise a faultless experience and we’ll be back. Highly recommended!

Been coming here for years and recently although the food isn’t as good as it used to be, the drinks were always reasonably priced. Went in for a quick drink, easy order, large glass of Pinot Grigio and a pint of lager shandy. Started off struggling to find the house white, was about to pour a rose when I intervened and after checking the entire fridge, found the right one. Then the girl just walked off. Turns out she was going to ask another server how to make a shandy. When I started to explain what shandy is, she told me she knew how to make it. (But still had to ask me if that was enough lemonade!) When we paid, the prices seemed to have risen sharply, I asked them to check and was told the prices have increased recently. Visited after a long absence because of a poor experience last year, sadly not much has improved. It was a quiet lunchtime meal for two, no one to meet or greet for ages, other staff engrossed on their laptops didn't even look up on our arrival. One member of staff to serve the whole pub who could have done with some help with his appearance was very polite and we didn't have to wait too long for our meal. Food ok but not so amazing we will return maybe in the future to hope for improvements,such a shame as it is a lovely pub in a nice setting...

Went for a celebratory meal with the family and although not busy the service was incredibly slow mainly as there only one person taking orders serving food and working behind the bar. Drinks took around 25 minutes to arrive and food around an hour. Lady serving was pleasant but clearly stressed by the absence of any help. We noticed a group of people that sat down around the same as us gave up waiting and left before being able to order. The food was ok although nothing special for the price. There’s plenty of other places locally with far better service and I’d suggest the management take swift action or customers will vote with their feet.

Having visited on my way to the coast thinking this would be a natural place to stop on route. Hugely disappointed !!! Lazy, senior staff member blaming junior staff member for horrendous service and poor food All around below average.

Made a booking to pop in was told I needed to call but the pub was empty with just one or two tables being used, ordered drinks but there was a very limited alcohol free selection. We asked for the burgers which were okay. It’s hard to ruin a burger but these were nothing special. Not sure I will rush back, but it was okay.

We visited this pretty pub last year after an outside update which looked very nice however upon our return unfortunately the outside area looked quite scruffy with parasols thrown into garden areas and an unsafe patio area. We observed a lady using a walking frame to access the barn area and she had difficulties doing so as the paving slabs are so uneven. The food itself was quite nice however we did have a long wait for the mains. On a positive the waitress was lovely.

A really disappointing visit. Not particularly busy yet waited so long for drinks we had to flag someone over. Starters were ok but roast dinners were a long way off the quality of other local places. Beef was tough and very well done, our roast potatoes were actually white, in fact some so pale we wondered if they were boiled. It didnt taste terrible and some aspects were nice (yorkshires) but generally not a brilliant offering for the money. Whilst choosing our meals we'd decided not to have a starter but one of our party pointed to the sign next to us saying £19.95 for 2 courses, we opted therefore for a starter. When the bill came we were charged full price (closer to £25) I queried and was firstly informed the "the board is wrong, we are taking it down later" I asked them to sense check that with manager, i actually had to ask a couple of times. The manager comes over and was a little off and argumentative saying the t's and c's are on menu (not directed to menu on the board) and only applied to desert and again the board is wrong and its more money now anyway. For the record the board is about 40 x the size of the t's and c's on menu and if they knew it was wrong it shouldnt have been up. The description online even says "unfussy place with chalkboard menus", I guess thats wrong too. They clearly didnt care and had no inclination to attempt to pacify, so we politely paid the bill and left.

We booked a table in the dog friendly bar area on a Saturday night. The pub was quieter than expected for a weekend but the staff were so friendly and attentive, they provided us with a nice table suitable for our dog to lay down and a bowl of water for him. There were lots of lovely dishes on the menu, unfortunately a couple of the options had already sold out, but there were lots of good alternatives so we weren’t too disappointed. The service was quick and the food was delicious, we will 100% be back and would highly recommend for a cosy pub with great food.

Went for Easter Sunday roast as two courses for £21. Looked great on the plate, lots of veggies but lamb was obviously pre prepared as wafer then cut and very dry and tough and no pink at all. Disappointing as it doesn't take that long to cook a roast joint. Desserts were good.

Super food and a lovely welcome on a Friday night. The pork belly and passion fruit parfait with crème brûlée and Madeline’s were absolutely delicious. Lovely garden and outside eating areas.

Just got back, great meal. Thank you Chequers! Burger for me and venison for hubby. Will be going back to have the venison a few times before the season is over. Tasty, hot food in a friendly atmosphere. Can’t ask for anything more.

Cannot recommend highly enough! Had an absolutely superb evening. Food was fantastic and the service was excellent 🥰 Such a beautiful pub inside and out, now on our favourites list. Will be recommending to friends and family and returning very soon!!

Went for Sunday lunch, main course good value, not enough gravy, dessert took over 25 mins to arrive after ordering, but compensated for this.

What a hidden gem of a place this is. The food was delicious and plentiful. I can highly recommend the venison suet pudding. The ambience was just right. It was busy to say it was Monday night. Steve was working on his own and he was effecient and calm. We will definitely visit again. I would definitely dismiss the negative reviews. We thought it was a fabulous place and tasty food.

We ate here twice recently, partly because we were hoping to recommend the restaurant to others. On the good side, the staff were extremely friendly and proactive. On the downside, the food was not very good. On the first visit I had chicken in a mushroom sauce, which was ok but was let down by being served with French fries that simply didn’t work. In hindsight, it would have worked better with rice, pasta, mash or baked potato almost anything other than fries. For pudding I ordered the peach and apricot cobbler. That was truly awful. The cobbler was so hard it could have been used as a mallet. On our next visit, four days later my wife had the same chicken dish I’d had. The French fries were stone cold and chewy. I’d ordered liver and bacon. It was alright except for the fact it was practically raw, which I didn’t enjoy and left most of (something I’ve never done). My daughter had ordered haddock and chips - I’ve had worse (once - when a takeaway served a fish that hadn’t been filleted) but not for many years and never in Norfolk. The batter was thick and tasteless, the fish was old, watery and lacking in flavour. We didn’t fancy a dessert so left after paying. Did notice on the way out that the roast dinner looked a good choice. However, despite the high quality waiting staff, I don’t think I will visit again. I’m no chef but I’d expect to have done better than what Chequers delivered. It’s a shame, nice locale, great staff (recommended for hiring if the restaurant fails), but arguably the worst food I’ve ever seen served.

Made another visit here, the last one was disappointing and unfortunately this one was too. Went for dinner with friends. Ordered the seared tuna. The tuna was certainly not seared, it was way over cooked and very dry. The worst part was the amount of balsamic vinegar, the whole meal was covered in it and made everything taste awful, the broad beans were hard and unedible . The new potatoes were ok, the ones not covered in the vinegar! The waitress never came over to ask if everything was ok. When we had finished she collected plates, she could clearly see that my food had hardly been touched and didn’t even ask why? So had to quickly tell her as she rushed off! Not much was said from her, no hard feelings towards her, she was just a young girl and probably just needs more training in customer service and hospitality. The place wasn’t busy at all but she seemed very flustered. When we went to pay the bill, my meal was still on there so had to again tell her it was almost unedible so she did take it off the bill. It’s a shame, as this is such a lovely pub, but the restaurant lets it down, the food and service definitely needs improving.

Fantastic Sunday roast best we have had 10 out for 10 quality and service definitely the best in the area!!!

We visited for a family dinner and the food was just delicious. There were seven of us and every meal was just perfect. Although it was a fairly quiet night, the service was exceptional. We were visiting from out of town and were very happy to find this place.

The chips smelled very strongly of fish. Provided I am vegetarian this was a terrible hard bite for me after that I wanted to puke. However even not vegetarians would find chips fried in the same oil as the fish , as a disgustingly incompatible combination. We questioned the waitress, after she checked with the kitchen she assured us these were fried separately. There isn’t a person in the world who will ever convince me this was a true. The chips was more fishy than fish. Never coming back !

Went for lunch what a mistake. Started with popcorn cockles and the crab rarebit, both lukewarm and rank. For mains we had the seared tuna, which was well done and the belly pork, which was very dry no sauce or gravy and again lukewarm. Another couple seated near us also complained. Was really quiet yet we waited an awfully long time for food, although all the people dancing in the kitchen kept us entertained. This place really is a joke, I feel sorry for the e waitresses as they are the only decent thing about this hole

We made an early evening booking to avoid lots of noise only to find we were the only people dining.I started with a houmous snack for a starter, the mistake I made was I had some lunchtime from a supermarket which was far superior. The houmous was dry and not seasoned although a sufficient portion. My friend had the popcorn cockles she was not impressed and said it had too much salt and vinegar. My main was a flat iron steak which was cooked to my liking with an adequate amount of other items on the plate to make it a good meal. My friend however ordered the chicken dish and was disappointed to find water on the plate as though the vegetables had been boiled and not roasted. The girls serving did provide a good service throughout. This was our second visit we were disappointed last time but wanted to try again, as we do not live to far away. alas we will not be spending my money here anymore.

Brilliant service upon arrival from the friendly team. We visited on Wednesday evening, and were warmly welcomed. Great selection of beers and spirits and the food was incredibly tasty. Great ambience with the fairy lights outside the thatched cottage. Really had a great sense of where we were in East Anglia, accompanied by great company and amazing, sumptuous British food!

I have used this pub before for lunch . Unfortunately this time things fell far short of my previous experiences. I ordered a sandwich & had to wait over 1.5 hrs for it. If I hadn't asked a member of staff I feel I would still be waiting. The only plus this time was the beer!!

We booked a table for 7.45 for four people The pub was busy and only two staff serving drinks and food It took well over an hour to get our first course And 11 o’clock to finish our main course We would have had afters, but it was way too late by then The food was not great at all. The two young girls did amazing, serving everyone, and did the best they could. I do not blame them at all Clearly the management had not allowed enough staff for Friday night. Unfortunately, with this experience, we will be unlikely to return

Have had Sunday lunch here many times over the past year and had always been fantastic, one of the best roasts around. We have even taken relatives here when visiting from other parts of the country. However after visiting again last week, we were left very disappointed. Unsure if there has been a change of chef, but the meal was very poor. Roast potatoes tasted like they had been microwaved, had barely seen an oven and were still slightly raw with very tough skins. Beef was dry and tough and very overdone, tasted very much like it came from a packet and the veggies we beyond Al dente, more raw. However the 1 piece of carrot I got was ok. Such a shame, as the service was and always has always been top class and the setting is beautiful.

We have hat chicken mushroom with blue cheese, Chicorée with Sesame and Vinegar, bread with Humus and prawns own mayonnaise. All of them was very delicious! The location was perfect and the pub / restaurant has a good, cozy style!

Very disappointed, only three prawns on my pasta dish and I couldn’t find the sausage, quite a long wait but Darcey was lovely and very apologetic, and it was £22.50 which seemed a lot. No traditional lagers all unknown. The really good thing about your pub is Darcey. It is really a shame but we will not be returning
