Haddon House Hotel Restaurant in West Dorset

We went for dinner as an early Christmas present, having been 4 times this year already. We can not find any fault. The staff are well dressed and very polite. The menu varied and caters for all. The food was perfectly cooked and delicious. We will be back.

Haven’t stayed at the hotel. I just booked a table for a meal in their restaurant. Staff were amazing, food was spectacular and the atmosphere was calm and tranquil. Again, food was second to none. We had a lovely evening, CANNOT WAIT to return!! Staff and Owners, at the Haddon House Hotel, should be very proud. 5*+

We ate here whilst on holiday in the area. We rang on the Saturday to book for Sunday lunch, the time wasn’t important to us as we could plan around it, they were fully booked but squeezed us in just before they were suppose to open. Amazing customer service, staff very friendly with a great menu - even for our picky teen! Food was of an excellent standard.

What a find! Arrived for Sunday lunch without booking. Owner could not have been more helpful and found us a table. The Sunday lunch menu was very varied. Two chose trio meat one chose turkey and one lamb. All excellent with four vegetables. Staff friendly and meal served quickly and very hot. Price was excellent value for what we ate. When you arrive at a restaurant and you immediately feel the ambiance giving you a warm glow you just know things are going to be special. Take a bow Haddon House, a chef that knows his way around the kitchen, pleasant, smart and knowledgeable waiting staff, quality ingredients and good wines make for one of the best Sunday lunches for a long time. Nothing more to be said - a "stand out" occasion.

Yesterday we celebrated an 80th birthday with the most splendid meal at Haddon House. The service was impecable and the menu varied. I had the best sirloin steak with mushroom sauce that I have had in years and the vegetables and roast potatoes were also amazing. Our party of five will certainly be returning. Just returned from a week’s stay at the Haddon House Hotel. We found the hotel comfortable and the staff very helpful. Breakfast and dinners were delicious- plenty of choice and well cooked. The location is perfect for exploring the area.

We went for the afternoon roast. I had lamb and my wife had beef and we were both impressed with the quality of meat and vegetables. We followed up with gorgeous desserts, key lime pie and pear & chocolate frangipane. Great friendly service in nice environment, all reasonably priced. Recommended

We dines here on several occasions whilst staying in the hotel The service we received on each occasion was faultless, being both friendly and attentive. Our meals were also nicely cooked and presented, the chef had obviously taken care with the way the food looked. My one criticism would be - and this is just a personal view - is that the meals are way too large. On the final occasion we dined there we shared a starter (intended for one) and it still seemed generous! In order to enjoy a dessert here I found that either no starter or a shared starter was the only way to have enough room left, as the mains also very generous. So how about a 'lighter bites' menu?

Quick table service. Hot tasty food with great presentation. Plenty of choice and nice atmosphere. Will book again. Recommend chicken sizzler with peri peri sauce but very hot and spicy so not for those who prefer mild fishes. Friendly staff.

What fabulous service with an amazing quaint old fashion feel, the food is fabulous just what you want in a Sunday Roast. I can recommend the Beef but the lamb looks just as good, I can truly suggest you book early you won't be disappointed.

I’ve been coming to West Bay for 20 + years and I have to say the Haddon House Restaurant NEVER disappoints… service is always polite and attentive, food is always always always outstanding… had another meal today that was well just wonderful … relaxed, value for money, lovely surroundings, and fabulous…. We ate here for Sunday lunch recently and were pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. Haddon House has two sittings for Sunday lunch 12-2 and then 3:15 until 5:30 (I think). We arrived shortly after 2 but were told they could accommodate us anyway, despite the restaurant being busy - very helpful! There are two main rooms for eating, one is dog friendly which is useful. The service was excellent both before, during and after the meal, very good quality. The food itself was excellent, very well prepared, good quality and well cooked. There are the usual Sunday dinner choices, ranging from £11 to £15, very good value for the quality and quantity. After dinner we relaxed by the fire in the lounge area which was a good finish to the meal. For a dining experience we couldn’t fault it and will be back again soon. Well worth your time.

What lovely friendly and well trained staff. We were seated in the bar, our drinks order taken and given menus to browse before being seated which is fairly rare and refreshing. My in-laws booked this restaurant for the first night of a short family break. First impression was that I had walked into a time warp, it was like the hotels I remember visiting as a child 30 years ago. Red heavily pattern carpet, big swags of drapes at the windows and some fake beams thrown in for good measure. It would be fair to say that I didn’t expect much... however I was pleasantly surprised. I can praise the young waiting staff enough, they really looked after us very well. So polite and efficient- they even smiled at my husbands terrible jokes! I had a sizzling platter which really was sizzling with prawns and scallops which were very nicely cooked. It was a large portion as were all our main courses. Pudding was however a disappointment. I had tarte au citron which honestly looked like I had been picked up at Tesco that morning and a slice shoved on a plate with some raspberry coulis. Poor when paying the best part of £7. I would expect a home made dessert. So overall good main, great staff but dated decor and poor dessert. So overall average, but better than first impressions led me to expect.

We held our Golden Wedding Anniversary lunch at Haddon House for family and friends and were very impressed with the with food and the service .We had an extensive menu to select our menu from and everyone commented on the quality of the food and the efficient pleasant staff .

The Hotel food and hospitality for Residents / non-Residents...just wonderful.. Dish Supreme... Grand Entrance.. and quaint lounge for drinking and ordering.. Easy Car Parking... You will not be disappointed.........

We visited with my cousins on a Sunday following 4 days a joys and and nights. We all had roasts of different meats and they were beautiful. Enough veg on separate dishes to serve us all. We decided to share a dessert with our partners as we knew we wouldn't be able to eat one each, such is the quality and quantity of the desserts. The staff who served us were all young, but able to converse with us without problems. A real credit to the restaurant. It was only at the end of our meal that things changed. We noticed that an older gentlemen seemed very sharp to the waiting staff at the till/bar area. When the card machine played up when we paid the young lady who served us wasn't too sure what to do. Just in case we paid twice she asked for help from the older gent. He was quite abrupt with the young lady and didn't talk to her in a way that as a customer we appreciated. All the younger staff had been brilliant throughout our meal. This gent who we assumed was the manager let his team down. We hadn't asked for a receipt from the machine as we were happy with the written one the waitress have us, but he barked at her about a reprint. This young lady was heavily pregnant and the heat must have been horrible for her, but she remained calm and pleasant throughout. It was a shame all the team didn't follow suit. This was our second visit to Haddon House, it's a shame this end of meal attitude Rui RF it for us.

My suprise family party for my 60th birthday was held at Haddon House. They catered for 32 of us and it was fantastic. We could have a two course or three course meal. It was all really good and no complaints. They treated us lovely. The drinks a little expensive but overall great. Thank you to all of you

we were looking for somewhere for Sunday lunch when visiting West Bay and came across Haddon house it was coming to the end of service but it did not cause any issues with the very friendly and helpful staff. The lunch was superb well cooked beef for me and lamb for my wife lovely fresh veg and the roast potatoes were to die for we would return here if ever in the area again

Spent a long weekend celebrating our 20th Anniversary. Room was spacious and comfortable, and we could not have been made more welcome by Paul and his team - even had complimentary fizz and anniversary card in the room. Such a great experience we’ve already booked to go back.

On a chilly March evening we arrived at the hotel to a cheerful warm welcome and shown to a seat in the lounge where our drinks order was served by a very pleasant young lady. We did not have long to wait until we were ushered to our table for two in the restaurant. Unbeknown to me my husband had informed the staff that it was my birthday when he made the booking, and it was a lovely surprise that the table was decorated with a Happy Birthday runner and glittery little motifs scattered across it. Tastefully done.

We met some friends for dinner. They were staying there again and were very pleased with their room. We were greeted in a very friendly manner and shown to our friends. Our drinks orders were immediately taken and accurately delivered. Our menu choices were not hurried or delayed. My meal of scallops and bacon risotto and then the house special steak and kidney pie were superb. I haven't had such good chips since Alfie's kiosk closed some years ago. They were delicious, crispy and soft inside. All of our meals were excellent and beautifully presented. The star of the show was our friend's prawn cocktail, which was a modern take on an old favourite but had the wow factor. It was a triumph of presentation. We had a very nice bottle of Primitivo and remarked that for such a good restaurant the wines were very reasonably priced. I just had coffee and brandy and the coffee was a very good cafetiere and well presented. I could not fault anything during the evening and would highly recommend this establishment for not only the restaurant but also the rooms. I can't wait to try their Sunday lunch, which is now legendary in the area

We were a family group of 5 adults and we enjoyed our traditional Sunday lunch. The service was friendly and the food was good. It was nothing fancy, just good plain English cooking and a varied menu, it even included suet puddings and rolypoly puddings.

Visited with my Mum for a special Christmas meal. As usual we were not disappointed, I am a fussy vegetarian but the meal I wanted was tweaked by the kitchen with no fuss, nothing is too much trouble at the Haddon. Afternoon "High tea" for a group of elderly ladies. The sandwiches were dry, the cream tea had rock cakes instead of scones and when we asked for more tea they just brought more hot water. Very expensive and very disappointing.

We came here for Sunday lunch and the whole experience was superb. There we six of us, four ordered the Roast Beef and two ordered the Roast Lamb. The portions of meat were very generous as were the variety of vegetables they came with which were served on separate plates. Roast potatoes were also served separately and there was more than enough for everyone to get what they wanted. There was some gravy served with the meat but they also provided gravy boats with more than enough gravy being available for everyone. After the main course, we were presented with a blackboard featuring a wide variety of desserts. We were served by quite young waitresses who were delightful and efficient. When I do reviews, I hold back on giving 5 stars to all but the exceptional, but I have no hesitation in giving a well deserved 5 stars for everything here.

We have just returned from a really sumptuous meal. We decided to book only an hour in advance, and the receptionist was very polite and courteous on the phone.The Service was impeccable,all waiting staff were smartly dressed and very knowledgable. The food was delicious, plentiful and hot.I had the roast beef, and my partner had the roast turkey.There was a large choice of desserts,together with a choice of ice cream and sorbets.We have dined there before, and we will certainly return there again.

Had lunch here recently and was very surprised at the quality and quantity received. Food was served hot and was very tasty, we all had a different meal and all meals came at the same time.

There is nothing wrong with Haddon house if you are of a certain age. The food is always good and the service fine, the hotel is clean and tidy, but the decor and fittings are suited to a mature clientele, over 70, and it is usually very full of this age group. Went there with my parents in law who love it and go regularly

My girlfriend and I decided at the last minute to find a hotel close to the beach on August bank holiday Monday so booked into the Haddon Hotel, and we were glad we did. The warm friendly atmosphere was clear the minute we walked through the door. The staff were welcoming and so helpful, and the room was clean and cosy. The jacuzzi bath made it all the more comfortable. Thank you so much for the stay. We'll be back when next in the area

Superb room with the highest quality fitting and furnishings. Design and comfort better that many 5 star hotels we have visited. Cheerful and helpful staff. Pleasant and spacious bar and restaurant. Certainly the best hotel in the area. Plenty of parking space.

Nos alojamos en la habitación número 1 y quedamos encantados con la decoración y baño. La habitación es muy grande, con un techo alto una araña, buena televisión, grandes ventanas de guillotina y una cama gloriosa. El baño era muy moderno, con un jacuzzi con una televisión! Had an excellent evening meal here and my fish was particularly well cooked. My husband had surf and turf and was equally impressed. Well done to the chef. Staff all very friendly and efficient.

Paul and Joanna run this place and it's a great place to relax and have excellent food and service. I don't know where they get their staff but other restaurants could learn a lot from them. If you're in West Bay give it a try.

We had an evening meal twice on our recent stay. Good menu and daily specials. The food was well cooked and presented. The visit was helped by the friendly and attentive staff. Highly recommended.

Went in on the off chance of getting a table. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I went for the Pork Belly, a dish I like and am often disappointed but this was great, one of the best ones that I have had, overall the service was superb and not to expensive

Breakfast here very good with an amazing choice. After the cereals, juices, grapefruit etc, I had the full English and was able to takeaway and add from the choice available so you get exactly what you want. We had an evening meal here and again an extensive menu to choose from. Great food in lovely surroundings with friendly staff. A little pricey but can't fault everything else.

Love this hotel, have returned many times and would recommend it to anyone. Lovely staff, great food and the most wonderfully comfy beds. Will be going back again soon.

My father in law Keith kindly invited us as a family to all go together for sunday lunch. We had a big long table with only 1 other table in the room, plenty of space lovely country house surroundings. SELECTION was fabulous, piping hot, plenty of yummy veggies and potatoes, the only Lemon meringue pie i have ever had as good as my mums.

We visited on a Saturday lunch time for a pre Christmas get together.Our party consisted of 10 adults and 4 small children, we had the set Christmas menu.We booked well in advance and I must say that the hotel were very helpful in organising the day which we wanted to be a bit special, even arranging for the children to go off menu for their enjoyment.When we arrived the decorations certainly had the wow factor, very traditional, and a beautifuly decorated large fireplace.Our table was beautifuly set in a red Christmas theme.The food arrived it was very well presented, well cooked and plenty of it.We had three courses and coffee.The belly of pork I had was fabulous with loads of salty crackling, every body present thought their food was great.Another good point was the well stocked bar, being a ale drinker most hotels and restaurants are limited it what they serve, not the case here.Our grandson particularly loved the golden Preseco bottles!Well done and thanks to all concerned who made us so welcome and gave us a day we will always remember.

We met for lunch here recently.It was very busy but all the staff were most helpful. As it was near Christmas all the decorations were up including 3 Christmas trees in the dining room . Other decorations about as well made it all look very festive. A huge fire in the corner . A tickling water feature also added to the décor. The food quickly arrived and was beautifully presented although we were confused by lots of menu choices .We seemed to be handing around boards for ever. Not too expensive for this quality and a great choice of venue to meet up with family and friends. We will go again.

We visited with family for a pee Xmas get together. There is plenty of seating to gather before dinner and make your order. The menu selection is very large with a Specials Board and two course set menu in addition to the normal al a carte. Having selected various dishes from the specials board (at circa £16 / dish) we found the portion sizes a little small and the jus's disappointing with no wow factor. Desserts were £6.50 and again a little small. Service was slow. In retrospect The two course lunch at £13.50 would have been a better choice for what was very average food.

Just a brief two night stay. Lovely small family run establishment, lovely rooms and breakfasts. Rooms clean and well supplied with towels, tea making facilities.

So surprised at poor evening at this posh looking hotel and restaurant. Service inattentive and poor. No real engagement. Food very average and wouldn't return in a hurry. Saw management arguing in a corner of the restaurant.

First we had a table booked for 7:15 and was made to sit in a seating area for over 30 minutes when our table was ready for us to sit at, also there was a cat just wondering around the floor of the restaurant which is a massive health risk as it could just go toilet when ever or for people who are allergic to cats it could be a massive issue. Not only that I orders a stake with scallops and shrimp, well... the steak was like rubber, the shrimp had zero taste and the scallops was under cooked, and finally when we was all finished and the lady said I'll just grab the bill, well it took her 30 minutes and a reminder to just get the bill, I understand her being busy but there was a good 4-5 times when she was just standing there doing nothing

We ate here each evening when we stayed at the hotel. The food was excellent especially the fish dishes (the fish came from the nearby harbour, I believe). The wine list was fairly small but quite comprehensive and at very reasonable prices. Friendly service but a little inexperienced.

If you are a wheelchair user, the restaurant is not user friendly. The only access to the restaurant is via a lounge room, which is fine until a function is booked. Which then prohibits total access to and from the restaurant area, unless you are happy with total humiliation of having to ask the function to move tables and chairs to provide access.I had this experience today, even though the meal was booked in advance and the Hotel were informed that I would be using my wheelchair.The duty manager did inform me that during the next few months they were considering installing a disabled toilet and a rear exit door ramp. Great but that will still not resolve the degrading restaurant access through the lounge.

We were passing through and looking for somewhere decent to eat. Popped in to the hotel and booked a table in the restaurant. The food and service were both very good.

I live locally and have to admit I've only visited here on occasions booked by others and haven't always been keen. One Sunday after going to a christening that we discovered last minute that there was no "after party" and so myself, mother and 2 children found ourselves hungry bang in the middle of a Sunday lunchtime at the end of summer! We called Haddon House to see if they had a spare table and was told one was available in 15 minutes time but we must not be late or we would lose the table - great we will take it! We arrived bang on time and were shown to a table in what appeared to be a fully booked restaurant. After almost 15 minutes and a lot of glances towards the waitresses we finally were given a menu and our drinks order was taken. This was strike one for us especially after being told not to be late - what difference would that have made?! We each chose a roast dinner and my toddler had chicken nuggets, chips and peas. After another wait our meals arrived and the meat was nicely cooked however my mothers Yorkshire pudding was black and the potatoes and vegetables were lukewarm at best. Disappointing - strike two. My toddlers refused to eat his chicken after one bite - call it fussiness if you like however I tasted it and the batter was very thick and masked the chicken underneath so I don't blame him to turning his nose up at it!We did point out the Yorkshire and veg temps when the waitress cleared our plates and my mother made it clear she wasn't thrilled. Although the girl looked apologetic (could possibly have been more embarrassed) she didn't actually apologise. Manners will get you everywhere and she could have said sorry even if she didn't mean it. Strike 3. We declined deserts and I paid for the bill at the bar - should point out here too that the barman took my payment and then turned away. Once again a thank you wouldn't have gone amiss. We then went to Baboo Gelato for ice cream and paid for 4 ice creams for less money than 2 deserts would have cost at Haddon!I won't be returning. Neither will my family. Don't be swayed by the cheap prices outside on the board either not one roast was under £10 and I feel was overpriced for the whole experience we had. Being local we have eaten at many places and my advice would be to try anywhere else. I suggest management remind the waitresses not to leave guests forgotten, remind chefs to send Hot food, and all the staff in general to learn Please, Sorry and Thank You!

If i ever have to pick where to eat i always choose this place. The food is excellent and there's always so much to choose from. The staff are always attentive and efficient. This is a great place for big functions and meals as big as 80 odd people, and the buffets are yum!! All in all very nice restaurant and reasonably priced too.

Just spent 3 nights here and had a lovely stay. Breakfast was very good and the service was excellent. Didn't have an evening meal there so can't rate that. The rooms were clean and there was everything we needed in the room. We asked for a fan And was told it was already in the room in the cupboard as was the iron, additional heater ,blankets and extra pillows. What was really important to me was the early morning screeching of the seagulls was kept to a bear minimum due to the double/triple glazing so had a good nights sleep. Would definitely stay there again.

We usually visit for dinner when in West Bay. This year we took our very senior friends for Sunday lunch. It was a great success. Lunch was delicious. Really tasty local pork and my friend s steak pudding was relished. A gracious dining room with white tablecloths. Will be back

Having eaten here several times over the years, in particular we have recently enjoyed their late afternoon Sunday roasts, which come at a very affordable price and are very tasty. Puds are good too (if you have the room!).

This is right opposite the long stay car park just a short distance from the shops, harbour and seafront. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Dogs are welcome inside (at the tables n the bar area) and also outside. We stopped here for lunch after a couple of hours spent on the seafront. We opted to sit outside at the back of the hotel. There are 3 menus to choose from: the standard menu, the daily specials menu, and also the 2 course special menu (entree and main, or main and dessert). We opted for the 2 course special. We both had melon and fruit sorbet to start which was absolutely delicious and perfect for a warm day. My friend chose roast pork and I chose vegetable pasta for the main dish. The food was delicious, well presented and good value. The staff were friendly, helpful and service was excellent. Highly recommend. We will definitely go back.

Went here with family to celebrate father in law's 80th birthday. Everything was very good, food and service. Until the tea and coffee, it was brought out and just dumped on the table for us to serve. So we did but they had miss counted the choc's, so I went to get more. The waitress was sat on a counter in the kitchen playing with her phone! While we were doing her job. Not impressed and now the whole of the party only remember this lack of service, not anything else. Thank you for spoiling this special day.

My friend and I had dinner here on a Sunday evening and although it wasn't busy we were still treated very well and enjoyed an excellent meal. I will be returning in August!

Visited on the evening of 5th May,one of many visits we have made to Haddon House.On arriving was shown to the easy chairs although requested to be shown to our table as we have done on numerous occasions. It wasn't a case of waiting for someone to vacate our table,it was a very quite evening.After a long wait well past the time of the booking we were shown to our table but only after a member of our party had requested this . Disappointed with the veg served just carrots and courgettes. Creamed potatoes for 3 were ordered but what was served was hardly enough for two,when we mentioned this a smaller extra dish was added,also asked for a dish of chips as an extra, when these arrived we ask where the chips were for the steak meal and was told they were included in the chips we had requested as an extra.Wasn't very impressed with the waitress.This is a shame as will think twice about visiting again

Surprised how busy it was on a Sunday afternoon, lovely atmosphere and nicely laid tables. The staff could have been a little more attentive.

My family had Sunday lunch. My wife sees this as her favourite type of meal and I agree that on a Sunday, this is special.Having booked our table we were shown to it quickly. The waitress asked us for our drinks order without handing us any menu. When I requested what drinks were available, and whether a wine list was available,a she said there was a wine menu but we didn't see it throughout our stay. Or, indeed any other menu save for the one menu that was being transported throughout the restaurant during the entire service. I am completely astounded that there was a menu 3 feet high presented to our tale by pulling a chair from another table to rest it on, while the waitress waited for our order. There were no table menus!We ordered. Our meals were served. Roast lamb, turkey and pork, served with the same gravy.. Extra gravy, mint sauce and cranberry sauce was served together with an announcement that our pork roast guest could also have sauce as desired. When asked what sauces were available she was told, Mint, cranberry ( already on the table ) and horseradish. No apple sauce appeared to be available.We ate. The roast potatoes were soft, the vegetables softer. We had asked the waitress what vegetables were to accompany the dishes. She had said there were three but could only remember two of them. She had been serving them all lunchtime!.The pudding menu was only available as a board when available. I cannot believe that we were unable to order a dessert because the 18 inch board menu was at another table. Puddings were served on a paper doily.One of our guests had lasagne. It was served with salad, chips and a potato salad.Overkill on carbs and a menu blunder if ever there was one. The lasagne was not fresh, was hard and inedible.When asked if everything was " Ok" said "yes". For the money, it was.As a meal it was poor. I had no pudding because nothing caught my eye. I commented to my chums that cheeses would have been nice but none was shown on the pudding menu. I was surprised to see a cheese board leaving the kitchen as I left.I saw no wine or drinks menu, had no idea of a cheese option, the cooking was poor and the waitresses could not say what the meal consisted of. The table next to me arrived and asked to order without the menu board as the wanted the roast dinner. When asked what roast dinners they were told beef, turkey and lamb. Pork was just not mentioned.Notwithstanding it being served throughout our stay.Interesting meal after being in West Bay for 10 years.

Visited for a lovely lunch yesterday with an elderly relative. Did not book but this did not matter as a quiet Monday in Early April so not too busy. The food was superb and very tasty and well presented. The staff were very attentive and professional. Will certainly visit again when in this area. Peter and Margaret

Excellent, first class food, wacky bathroom with TV and staff are attentive and polite. The hotel would benefit from a lick of paint and it is like stepping back 20 years, but you know what, that's kind of what makes it fun.Highly recommend you try this, if only for the food!!

We have had some lovely meals here also many functions, Our local WI use it quite often, we are already booked up for next Christmas lunch! There are also some lovely walks around the harbour and coast.

Nice evening menu with good number of choices. Prices are mid range. Table was actually in the Bar area which did not pose any problems since the Hotel was not busy early January.

Visiting this local favourite for Sunday Lunch with the in-laws, easy to park, spacious for access with frame or stick, usual fab service and great ambiance. The menu was extensive, we would have preferred another fish dish but that's being picky. Three courses later and a lovely glass of Rose we were FTB! The Roast dinner can always be relied upon, we also had scallops and whitebait to start, belly pork and the beef casserole followed by Banoffee Pancake and Raspberry Brulee. All delicious and eaten in our own time, lovely not to be under any pressure when you have elderly relatives that tend to eat slowly. Thanks to all the staff for another lovely outing which we followed with a drive along the coast road to Abbotsbury in the sunshine, delightful.
