Food was mostly good but not worth the money. Staple menu items like fish and chips and sticky toffee were great. Fancier items such as the stuffed cod and scallop starter (£19!) were disappointing. Quirky setting in railway carriage. The cocktails were very good.

Seen this railway carriage sitting in the old platform of the former West Bay station a number of times when ive been on holiday in Dorset. Being a bit nosey, we went to have a look to see what it was. Turned out to be a restaurant. Looked nice so booked up for lunch, on line for the following day. Wow. So glad we did. The food is stunning. Staff are lovely & dog friendly as well. Will definitely book up again next time we are in the area. Highly recommend this place.

Having had a perfect evening meal at The Station Kitchen last year, we made sure to return during our latest trip to West Bay. Now The Platform Restaurant, the place goes from strength to strength. My wife and I love the atmosphere of eating in the railway carriages (complete with gentle rocking as people moved around them!) The food was outstanding in both presentation and taste and it was really nice that the team remembered us from our previous visit and even managed to continue our "flamingo" theme! I also loved that the interior décor included nods to the history of the venue, such as the original exterior "Station Kitchen" signage. We both had the Dartmoor pig cheek starter, which we loved, and then my wife was delighted by the chowder whereas I had an outstanding steak. As a teetotaller, my drinks choice is normally a boring orange juice and lemonade but I decided to be adventurous and ordered a "Craspberry Cooler." This was really nice, so much so I had a second one! The service was warm and friendly - and swift - and making our booking was easy via the website. A final - and new - touch was the chocolate tiffin given with the bill where traditionally restaurants give sweets/mints. This was very tasty and added a nice extension to the evening when I ate it after we got back to where we were staying. We're so glad we returned and will definitely be doing so again whenever we are back in the area.

The food was exquisite and in a very atmospheric beautifully designed carriage interior. The only thing that spoilt it for us was the arrival of a very noisy couple with 2 dogs right next to us. I had understood dogs were only permitted in the station house. Otherwise The Platform is a fantastic dining experience and a great asset to West Bay.

A shame for missing out on the five stars but only because two of our choices were not available (after ordering). The train carriage is well decorated with lots of different nicknaks and old fashioned soft furnishings. Quite inkeeping with the vintage train experience. Even though the carriages are stationary, there is this rather pleasant movement created by people/staff moving around the interior, causing the carriage to rock. Gives the impression that you are actually on a train journey, accidental or deliberate, its quite nice. Food was good and staff attentive. Good choice on the menu, when its available, and a good drinks options. If you are a bigger party of people or a romantic couple, it's suitable for both. Recommend booking in the summer months.

Splendid setting, very unique and interesting. We ate it the newest carraige with booth style leather buttoned seating. Very comfy and you don't feel on top of any other customers. The young staff particularly Gideon, were super friendly and set the scene for a lovely evening. He picked up that it was a birthday meal and presented a small gift and signed card from the staff. A lovely touch. The food is on the expensive side, as the portions are small, but made up by the quality and presentation. It was however disappointing to be served luke warm scallops and a cold steak on a cold plate. The staff kind of lost there way a little bit and lost the attentiveness that was displayed on arrival. No condiments were offered (they forgot) and I had to ask after a long period for a dinks order. The Mangeress presented the full bill and failed to address our presented issues. I am disappointed to have been asked to pay the full amount for cold mains... its not cheap. She replued.. we were offered to have it cooked again.. but of course too late to enjoy a meal together waiting for it to be cooked whilst the other 3 in the party ate. If... we had been approached sooner, then maybe we would have had a new dish. The Manageress did reduce the bill by £8.50 for a £244.00 bill. To be honest, not what I would call a good offer in light of our experience. All in all we would probaly visit again, as it is such a charming and unique setting. Just a shame about the cold food and lack of offering from the Manageress. Hence an over all 3 stars.

Had great expectations of our second visit to this restaurant, party of six to celebrate a friends birthday, unfortunately turned out to be very disappointing. Drinks were ordered although one lager (choice of two) was not available. Two of our party requested Aperol Spritzers which were overloaded with soda, these were returned, the replacements were acceptable. Starters were served, two of the party ordered the goats cheese tart which were very small approximately 25mm in diameter. The remaining starters were good although my soup turned up with no spoon and was a small serving. Main courses followed and again a serving of loin of cod was very small around 50mm diameter was not filled with basil and had virtually no vegetables to accompany the fish considering the price of £32 was poor value. An order of steak was returned as was found to be overcooked, the replacement was fine. My fish curry was lovely and the fish and chips were considered to be OK although probably not a great idea to serve curry sauce with something presented on mock newspaper! Drinks ordered with the main course arrived just as we had finished eating. The wine was unopened and no opportunity to taste was given. Our server was polite but not very engaging, they struggled with the pronunciation of some menu items and lacked some basic communication skills expected at restaurant of this standing. A very disappointing experience.

The whole site should be cleared and get it returned to a railway station with trains running to maiden newton again, no good as a cafe as its too expensive, if you wait till 5 pm can get reduced price cakes & pies at the Cornish bakery just across the road. Than eat them on one of the many benches listening to some lovely Gary glitter on u tube or if your lucky enough to have all of Gary's amazing records in your collection you could save the pies till you get home, the most you want to pay for a meal is no more than one pound fifty as westbay it's not exactly the English Rivera, that train cattle wagon at station kitchen should go back to the Swanage railway to store their coal & spiders in🕷️

Shame. Promised so much but failed to deliver. As noted in other reviews Took 3 hours for food to arrive despite a pre-order. Staff tried hard to drown us with "more drinks for you guys" but really getting decent food to table is a restaurant's main job, and on the day we were there- that just didn't happen. Even when food did arrive it was less than average - I had a plate which had one thing undercooked, one severely overcooked one decent and one thing cold. Quite a feat. we cancelled our desert & left. Lot of work needed to get this train running.

Food was fantastic as in all our previous visits. However we had booked a table for 6 for 19.30 and when we arrived we were told that is was still occupied. We waited over 35 minutes for our table. During this time we drank a bottle of wine that increased our bill by £35 and we're not even offered menus. Given that the restaurant clearly states that it will only hold tables for 15 minutes it seems unreasonable to expect guests to wait 35! And no reduction on our bill was offered.

Exceptional Sunday roast beef, probably the best I have ever eaten at a restaurant or pub! Hugely generous portion sizes too. The beef itself was melt in the mouth, the gravy was perfectly savoury and just the right thickness, and I particularly loved the gluten free Yorkshire pud which was stuffed with slow cooked ox cheek. Absolutely delicious. The veg was also amazing and there were some some unusual options that really complimented everything else on the plate, including perfectly roasted piccolos (thin parsnips), carrots, kale, Jerusalem artichoke, tenderstem broccoli and of course some excellent roasties too. Crispy onion was sprinkled on top which I've never had on a roast before but it worked so well. The Station Kitchen staff were lovely and very friendly, and checked up on us to make sure everything was okay. The décor inside the restaurant is so unique and such a great talking point. The Station Kitchen has caught our eye every time we've visited West Bay and we finally had the chance to book a table and visit. We are so glad we did and will definitely be back! We booked our table in person the day before our visit and my wife commented on how much she liked the flamingo blinds in one of the carriage windows (we love flamingos), wondering if we could be seated there. The staff said it couldn't be guaranteed as the seating plan was already in progress but they would do their best. As it turned out, that wasn't possible - but a large flamingo candle holder had been placed on our table instead. We were greeted with "ah, the flamingo lady!" when we arrived. Great attention to detail and a lovely way to make us feel welcome. We both ordered the steak, which was delicious. Cooked exactly how we'd like it and with excellent chips and vegetables. We both agreed it was the best steak either of us could remember having. All the staff were really friendly and we had a lovely evening.

We were given a gift voucher so we came to claim it without researching the place before so everything g was an amazing surprise on arrival. The carriages are beautifully decorated and the staff were so friendly, efficient and welcoming. The menu looked so good but as it was a Sunday we went for the Fat Controller roast. What a good choice. The best restaurant roast we’ve had! We also went for a couple of starters too which were also delicious. All in all it was a very enjoyable experience with a lovely venue, incredible staff and delicious food. Thank you

We had dinner here on 31st August and had one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in a while. The decor of the carriage was beautiful and not to mention the delicious food. Huge thanks to our wonderful server Abi who made it an evening and dining experience to remember. We can’t recommend this restaurant enough!

We ate here whilst on holiday as a treat for our grandsons, whilst for 4 the price was a little high, but the food more than made up for it, the food was awesome, each of our meals were beautifully cooked and presented. Staff were lovely. All in all a lovely evening in great surroundings.

Disappointing. We had high expectations, given the prices, but the food was underwhelming. The quality simply does not match the prices. Small portion of fish, too much butter and burnt skin. The chocolate cremeux was like melted chocolate ice cream poured onto the plate and without the pickled cherries that were listed on the menu.

Fantastic Sunday lunch at the station kitchen .silver service really was excellent. Special mention to both Ashley and Gideon who both made our sitting .You are both a credit to your upbringing and training in your fields . The ambience of the station kitchen setting is of a very high level . We had our sitting in an old railway carriage, we felt like we were in the orient express . The dinner was of high quality. I had roast beef with all the trimmings , my wife had mushroom wellington, and there was plenty of it . We stayed in Westbay 3 nights and dinned out each evening. The station kitchen being by far the best . We will definitely return , Do yourself a favour if you want something special and visit yourselves

We may have been unlucky with our experience (dinner for 4 at peak Saturday evening timing) but, in my opinion, improvements need to be made to get a higher rating. The venue is very nice (we were seated in the dog friendly station building rather than the railway carriages) and the decor is very interesting/appropriate. Staff are very pleasant. The lady serving us talked us through the menu and the specials only to then tell us that there were no prawns left (there goes the starter I wanted) and there was only 1 monkfish portion and 1 raywing portion ... we quickly stated that we'd like to reserve these only then to be told that they had now also gone to someone else (so there goes the 2 options I'd have liked for a main course). We all finally ordered things we'd be happy with but what turned up wasn't always in line with what was expected. The confit peach starter turned out to be plum (no explanation given when this was pointed out) and the expected cherries with the chocolate cremaux were actually strawberries (again, no explanation given). What was received was actually very good (the sticky toffee pudding being a highlight). The toilets are housed in a shipping container behind the restaurant. Very clean and well presented but would be a pain if the weather was inclement. I don't think we'd rush back.

We booked to come here yesterday for drinks and bar snacks while we are on holiday. From start to finish our experience was amazing. The carriage we were in was beautiful and the waitress was very knowledgeable and told us all about the history of the carriage. The food and drinks were delicious. Attentive and friendly staff. Can’t fault this place. Would highly recommend

Very nice traditional pub. The food is great and well cooked. I ordered a lamb and it was delicious. Probably it even better in summer time because there are tables outside

I must say. I've been all around the uk having fish and chips. This place is lush. Its in my top 3. My only criticism would be. Use different curry sauce. You would be number 2. But apart from that when we are off to Devon from now on. We will be popping in.

Visited The Grange for a delicious meal. Absolutely amazing service and wonderful food. Beautiful location and the people who work here go out of their way to look after guests. The cream teas are also AMAZING! Best hotel and restaurant in the county!
