Lucky enough to eating here in storm so with the gentle rocking motion you could imagine the train carriage was departing for Paris. The décor is kitschy, some may say it too much but I found it interesting and sort fits with dining on a train. The sea food speaks for itself, I hope you will enjoy it.

The experience of dining in the railway carriage was brilliant and made more enjoyable for us by them not allowing dogs in the carriage we dined. Service was good and the food was not disappointing. I had the fish with noodles that was not as good as the beef but it was reasonable value for money and the setting more than made up for any shortfall.

We came here for Sunday lunch as a 60th birthday treat, the carriage we ate in was impressive in decor but nearly empty and lacking atmosphere. We both had roast pork, the meals we pleasant enough but crackling was disappointing. We felt the drinks were expensive as were the 'extras' in particular the Cauliflower Cheese at £5.50 for a small portion, which was flavourless. Sadly for us, the experience didn't live up to our expectations, we have had better elsewhere at much better value.

Where better than a ghost train to experience a Murder Mystery on Halloween! The Station Kitchen is two railway carriages brilliantly transformed into a restaurant at the old West Bay station. The waiting room has been turned into a bar area where you can sip on cocktails before dinner. On the night we visited, food had been ordered in advance to avoid any disruption to the actors. Food, service and atmosphere well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Exceptional Sunday roast beef, probably the best I have ever eaten at a restaurant or pub! Hugely generous portion sizes too. The beef itself was melt in the mouth, the gravy was perfectly savoury and just the right thickness, and I particularly loved the gluten free Yorkshire pud which was stuffed with slow cooked ox cheek. Absolutely delicious. The veg was also amazing and there were some some unusual options that really complimented everything else on the plate, including perfectly roasted piccolos (thin parsnips), carrots, kale, Jerusalem artichoke, tenderstem broccoli and of course some excellent roasties too. Crispy onion was sprinkled on top which I've never had on a roast before but it worked so well. The Station Kitchen staff were lovely and very friendly, and checked up on us to make sure everything was okay. The décor inside the restaurant is so unique and such a great talking point. We will be returning to try the pork and chicken! Thank you!

We held our Wedding Breakfast this weekend at the Station Kitchen. The experience has been outstanding from start to finish. This was mostly down to Claire and her team’s ability to turn our thoughts and wishes into a reality via a well executed plan. The star of the show was the well prepared food, which catered for everyone’s needs as well as being delicious in taste. The carriages, like others have said, have an atmosphere which takes you away for a moment in time and provides a unique eating environment.

The Station Kitchen has caught our eye every time we've visited West Bay and we finally had the chance to book a table and visit. We are so glad we did and will definitely be back! We booked our table in person the day before our visit and my wife commented on how much she liked the flamingo blinds in one of the carriage windows (we love flamingos), wondering if we could be seated there. The staff said it couldn't be guaranteed as the seating plan was already in progress but they would do their best. As it turned out, that wasn't possible - but a large flamingo candle holder had been placed on our table instead. We were greeted with "ah, the flamingo lady!" when we arrived. Great attention to detail and a lovely way to make us feel welcome. We both ordered the steak, which was delicious. Cooked exactly how we'd like it and with excellent chips and vegetables. We both agreed it was the best steak either of us could remember having. All the staff were really friendly and we had a lovely evening.

We may have been unlucky with our experience (dinner for 4 at peak Saturday evening timing) but, in my opinion, improvements need to be made to get a higher rating. The venue is very nice (we were seated in the dog friendly station building rather than the railway carriages) and the decor is very interesting/appropriate. Staff are very pleasant. The lady serving us talked us through the menu and the specials only to then tell us that there were no prawns left (there goes the starter I wanted) and there was only 1 monkfish portion and 1 raywing portion ... we quickly stated that we'd like to reserve these only then to be told that they had now also gone to someone else (so there goes the 2 options I'd have liked for a main course). We all finally ordered things we'd be happy with but what turned up wasn't always in line with what was expected. The confit peach starter turned out to be plum (no explanation given when this was pointed out) and the expected cherries with the chocolate cremaux were actually strawberries (again, no explanation given). What was received was actually very good (the sticky toffee pudding being a highlight). The toilets are housed in a shipping container behind the restaurant. Very clean and well presented but would be a pain if the weather was inclement. I don't think we'd rush back.

My whole sole was not quite cooked, and the only vegetable with it was a very small dish of hard crushed potato. Went here for Sunday lunch. Unfortunately there was a private party on of which we were unaware when we booked. We were in the carriage with the tropical wallpaper and faux foliage. It was very dark as the blinds apparently could not be opened to let in some natural daylight. Having seen other reviews/photos we would have preferred the more authentic wood finish in the other carriage but that is obviously down to personal taste. The young serving staff were pleasant and the food arrived within 5 minutes of us ordering so we weren’t there long! The lamb was tasty and tender with a decent selection of vegetables. The carriages are facing the old station platform on one side and the car park on the other.

This was very good food and great wines. So cannot argue with that. And an awesome atmosphere, as loved the feeling of being on an old train eating. A colourfully decorated carriage with great ambiance. Just be aware that it’s also expensive. To a degree that would be expected because of the excellence, but considering I only had two potatoes with my roast, it was quite costly in my humble opinion. Whilst I am from Bristol and often expect to pay premium prices here these days, this was up there with London prices, so bear that in mind. However - it was very unique and special and still a great one off meal in a lovely setting for us.

I'm disappointed with the restaurant we visited. Although the concept and decor were great, the delivery of service was not. We waited for over an hour and a half for our main course, which we had to chase the staff for. While the fish was good, the potatoes were overcooked and chewy. They did offer to replace them, but we didn't want to wait any longer. When we received the bill, they did take the optional service charge off the bill. However, we still had to go to the desk to pay the bill as it took a while for the staff to bring the machine to settle the bill. At this point, we were the only ones left in the restaurant, so there was no excuse for the delay. Maybe it was just a bad night, but it could have been a lot better!

I ordered the cach of the day 🐟 a whole fish very bland with crushed potatoes in tower like shape , then dressed with a prickly salad leaves the ones that you cannot chew unless a farm animal...... presentation was lack lustre seems like no effort had gone into this creation ..... Really underwhelming and at £ 28.00 more high end price........ so expected something more............? the salad was so prickly I thought I had swallowed a fish bone SCARY..... such a shame as the location and ambience fabulous ...but it's not just about the venue as the food has to be the STAR ⭐......not on this occasion ...

Nice restaurant with a great concept. Some sort of confusion with our booking (we did have a screenshot of it) meant we ended up in the group carriage which wasn't great as we were a table of two (sat side by side) and it was very noisy (not the actual fault of the restaurant). I've been to this wonderful place around 5 times now, and it's about time I made a review. Exotic, great atmosphere, excellent staff. The whole decor takes you back in time, and sitting in the carriage on a windy evening while the carriage sways gives you that experience that you feel like you are on a train. For me, it's the full restaurant experience I want. The food itself, well, it's that good you just have to indulge yourself with 3 courses or more, and I can tell you that you will be more than satisfied. It's bigger plates of food than you expect, and the presentation and flavour are first class (no pun intended). The staff are also very attentive and catering to your needs. You never leave dissatisfied, just a full belly and a smile on your face. I'm always recommending the place to friends, and it's definitely a hit for the dating scene. 10/10

Always amazing food whenever we visit. First time in the front carriage which was just as beautiful as the other. Good service and nice wine selection.

It’s rare I write a review but felt I had to after our experience. I had such high expectations after all the positive things I had heard from others. Firstly the starter was an absolute joke!! Four slices of cut salami sausage with some purée dotted around the side doesn’t quite meet the £10 price tag. Nothing on the plate was homemade so unsure why it would be on the menu in a place that class themselves as fine dining. Moving on to the mains… I had beef fillet which was underdone and so tough I could barely cut it let alone chew it. The potato was greasy and nothing had an flavour. My partner ordered the fish curry which admittedly the sauce was very nice but the fish was battered and again flavourless and greasy! It was an unusual concept to deep fry in batter and then add to a curry? We both left our meals as they were inedible. After explaining to the waiter it wasn’t up to expectations he removed the service charge??? I thought this was odd as the service was absolutely fine and it’s optional anyway. The only positive was the decor

Fantastic use for the old station and a couple of old train carriages!

The surreal experience of gazing at a redundant platform while sitting in a static train carriage. There is no engine, but neither is there meant to be. The walls are festooned with huge clocks, an enormous ampersand, large pieces of metal (a 4ft-tall industrial iron thing is bolted to the floor in the middle of the carriage), fluffy baubles and twinkling lights. Candleholders are large pink flamingos and figurines, and the whole effect is utterly charming.

We travelled a decent way to come to the station kitchen for a special birthday meal and were sadly left a bit disappointed. The decor is fun but we were sat at the head of the Brunel carriage and the lights were so blindingly bright and they weren’t able to turn them down. The rest of the carriage appeared to be set with much more atmospheric lighting fit for a dinner. Cocktails to begin were lovely but tended towards the sweet end. Lots of speciality cocktails available but a few more traditional would be nice. Service was friendly but slow. It was a long time to get bread. Focaccia was well made but the butter was whipped with honey which was far too sweet to start a meal. Starters were great, we had most of them on the menu across our group and all enjoyed. Moving onto mains, there were two main issues here: temperature and seasoning. Both the brill and the fillet steak were on the cool side of tepid. My brill dish was entirely under-seasoned to a fault, whereas the sirloin steak was far too salty. Also for being so close to the sea, surely more focus should be put on high quality seafood? We didn’t delve too far into the puddings but a couple of us had a classic STP, good sauce and ice cream but sponge was a bit dense. On the wine side of things we had some delicious reds and whites around the £50 mark which we thoroughly enjoyed. We have to say, even though the prices are on the menu, we were shocked at how much the bill came to. The restaurant charged high end, almost London, prices but not delivering on quality. It sadly left us with a bitter taste in our mouths.

Tried the new venture The SK’s pub lunch’ with friends and we had a really good time. The carriage was warm and toasty on a cold but dry January day the staff as usual were lovely and our meals enjoyable. First time I have had crispy eggs and they were excellent with a runny yolk and perfectly cooked white will have them again! The sharing plate also looked great as did on the all of the food we saw going to other diners always good to see what food is available!

Stopped for brunch on our after christmas wander . This place is very welcoming and was really busy , has seating inside and a couple outside . it was the sign out dude drew us in say soup and a sandwich to warm us up. So we ordered their leek and potato soup with a whole cheese toastie . a late and a pot of tea. it was lovely but quite a small bowl of soup to what you usually get in cafes and quite pricey it was a total of £34.50 . where we come from the soup and sarnie are a combined price not separate and usually only around 6.95 /7.95 each . so a cup of tea and. coffee would make it only around £22/23 . not £34.50 . but it was sherborne so quite a pricey area . having said that we would visit again as such a nice place to stop and rest a very warm cafe .

Best place to have a few Christmas pints with friends. Very cosy seating areas with sofas next to the fire place. Reasonably priced beer (£4.80 ish) for a pint of Butcombe, very good quality / price!
