Wow fantastic, arrived on time , kept very hot.

Absolutely delicious fish and chips. On every occasion I have had a takeaway from here it has been excellent. I would actually say that these are the best fish and chips that I have ever had. The service is amazing and the cute little shop is in a beautiful part of Dorchester.

It’s been years since we’ve had such good fish and chips. We enjoyed the whole meal so much. The fish was excellent, the chips were spot on, lovely mushy peas and HOMEMADE fish cakes. No surprise that the queue went down the road. We highly recommend .

Hello👋 Delicious traditional Chippy, been on The Green for decades. You can pick a bench in the shade and eat while your meal is still hot and crunchy ! For smaller appetites, choose small fish. Best fish and chips in Dorchester

The smallest chippy I've been to ever, couldn't get my mushy pea fritter but everything else fantastic. Best fish I've had in ages and staff really lovely.

What a fab little find this place is. Having googled for the best fish and chips around Dorset this place kept popping up having placed in the top 50 fish and chip takeaways in the country. I tried their hake with chips, a home-made fish cake and a couple of gherkins, and the bill was under a tenner, which is exceptional in these times. But what was even more exceptional was the quality of the produce... The batter was light and crispy, the hake delicious, the homemade fishcake had a lovely rustic texture to the filling. There's a village green outside with park benches you can sit and eat it too, great on a sunny day. Absolutely recommend - 10/10 experience.

Will not be eating there again not proper chip shop chips more like frozen ones cod was so small never seen such a small peace cod was over cooked not nice at all

Large cod, chips and pea fritter, all cooked to order and nicely done. Batter was crisp and not too thick, nice flaky cod and well cooked chips. Pea fritter was huge and tasty. Will be going back again next time I’m over that way.

Been on my hit list for a while now. Well worth the detour. Freshly cooked fish and chips “ medium portion” not been offered that before. Really good! See you soon

Best chippy tea we've had in ages!! Amazing to even have some vegan options to choose from. The pea fritters are incredible. Excellent service, food stayed hot for a good long while, and it was all cooked beautifully.

Drove past this place initially as it is tucked away but so glad I persevered. Excellent portion of Cod n Chips

Turned up and ordered on door. Took 10 mins which when stood outside felt like a lifetime in the cold and dry, thankfully not raining! Was worth the wait as everything was freshly cooked and chips were fabulous.

Away for a short break in Dorset . Found this takeaway on Tripadvisor. Lovely pieces of cod , batter lovely but unfortunately a bit cold . Yes I know it’s a takeaway and by the time you get home it may be not as hot as first served . Think reason being that whilst food was being cooked and bagged up it sat on the side waiting for other bits to be bagged . Basically our order wasn’t done all at once hence the food was cold . In saying that it was great quality . Busy venue and I would return if in the area .

I don't give 5 stars lightly. But, I've no hesitation here. Fish was awesome. Perfectly cooked. The batter was great, too. Also, I had a steak and kidney pie. Best I've had in a long time. Battered sausage was really tasty, too. Great chips and curry sauce. My favourite chippy is closed for now. I've tried a few others locally, but not for me. I was struggling to find a decent place to eat, to be honest. Callaways saved the day. Excellent food. Try them, you will eat with a smile on your face, As did I. I'm a happy man:)

Amazing crispy batter on fish, lovely chips. Very busy & not surprised because food is outstanding. Only gave 4 stars for service because of wait time after ordering, staff very friendly & courteous.

Just wanted a portion of chips last night……absolutely awful. Anemic and tasteless. The bread role tasted quite a few days old too. Threw them in the bin. Shame as used to go there years ago and best chippie in town…..Staff and service lovely, shame the chips weren’t…..

Haddock was cooked fresh. A little wait for my order but it is cooked to order and deffently worth the wait. Very good size portions, will have to order small chips next time.

Fish and Chips is a regular meal on our holiday. Not without issues - closed venues, burning the paper whilst reheating or losing a family member …. But each year we search out the best local fish and chip place for our annual ritual- always with a little trepidation. Thankfully we struck gold here, lovely people, service, easy ordering, great squidgy chips and crisp fried fish in a light batter - delicious !

I recently ordered takeaway from Callaways Fish and Chip Shop, and I must say, it was a fantastic experience. The ordering process was quick and easy, and the staff were friendly and helpful. When I received my food, I was impressed by the quality and freshness of the fish and chips. The batter was perfectly crispy and the chips were piping hot and delicious. The portion sizes were generous, and I felt like I got great value for my money. Despite being a takeaway order, the food was still of a very high standard and tasted just as good as if I had eaten in the restaurant. Came here tonight via google for fish n chips. Absolutely worth a detour and visit. Very well cooked, presented and great service. Down here on holiday and hope when back in area to enjoy these again.

Sorry over rated and very expensive. Seem to live on a reputation of unique style of building set near to Fordington Green where people sometime sit and enjoy eating there fish and chips. The owner has an inability to except honest true reviews. Compared to San Telmo and other Fish and Chip Shop this shop is far more costly. The other establishments have roughly the same cost and don't charge so much, and give gool portions when ordering large, unlike Caraways who give small/medium sized portion of chips when you order large....out of order.. the worst in Dorchester.

I can't rate these guys enough and we are so lucky to have them as our local fish and chip shop. They have started selling battered hake and I had that while OH had his normal cod. He did try a bit and is converted so we will probably buy hake next time. I would have taken a photo but it didn't last that long 😂

After a very long and tirying drive to Dorset we finally arrived at our B&B. We really didn't wish to go to a restaurant as we were tired and hungry. Our host, Ellie, from Yellowham farm recommended Callaways fish &chips saying they were the best. Now living on the coast ourselves we have our fair share of fish & chips to choose from but I can honestly say in my opinion the fish & chips from Callaways is probably the best I have ever eaten. The fish was lovely, coated in batter that was neither greasey or dry, it was perfect, just what was needed after a long journey.

Poor delivery service. Gave a 30 minute time slot and arrived 25 minutes later.

Great chippy - little parking though

Ordered first time here via online just 15mins before their closing as we were looking for a fish and chip shop on the way home and spotted this on Google. Small shop tucked away in a residential area, so wouldn't have known about it without googling. Looked very clean/well maintained. Good service, didn't have to wait long though they were still doing other late orders etc. Everything cooked from fresh (ie wasn't just sitting in a heated spot waiting). Got 2 haddock and chips. Had to drive 30mins home.... but fish was still really nice and crisp/hot. Packaging good - formed cardboard type box, kept food warm, paper bag carrier. Chips had gone a little soggy by the time we got home but that was us and the long drive to blame. Still all tasty. Will definitely buy here again on a late night going home.

Been twice now and both times when Ive asked for extra salt and vinegar.... I end up with none ... Such a shame, the whole meal is ruined again, as I'm not near home to add my own . I would eat here more regular if they weren't so tight with the basics. It's like not having sugar in tea if you like it. Seasoning is as important as the product.. Great food, hope they see this and sort it out.

Had Large Cod and chips,. These are the best I’ve had outside of Yorkshire , and better than most from there, would recommend them to anyone visiting Dorchester.

I had a lovely sized portion of fish and chips, the batter was light and crispy and the oil was drained really well. Chips could have been cooked a little longer for me personally, but I enjoyed my whole meal and will be returning.

This is the second time that I have received luke warm chips l The cheese was just piled on top and not melted at all . After a phone call and discussion they offered to replace .

Good place for fish and chips. They don't do gluten free but can cook fish on a plate in the microwave. The fish was really good and chips were brilliant. There was a risk of having a gluten attack due to potential cross contamination with the chips but I was fine. Great service and very friendly and helpful staff

We haven't been here for a while, we went along on 18th December and it seems like it has new owners from previous visits before Covid. All new frontage with a big window serving counter, so no more walking inside to order and a pretty good idea for social distancing etc etc. We thought we'd give it a go and we wasn't disappointed. The fish was cooked perfectly in light batter and the chips were thick and tasty. Altogether a worth while visit, I'd say, it's up there as the best in Dorchester.

On holiday in area and read reviews. Placed an order using their app and arranged collection time. The tell tale signs are the queues outside when we arrived to collect our order. Ample portions and great batter. When in the area again we will return. Will not delete your app :)

Nice place good food. Bit mean charging extra to swap the potatoes for chips (they replaced with a side portion which was too much) especially when spending £150.

The staff are very friendly and the food is excellent. I had fish and chips with mushy peas. The fish was fresh, well-cooked and the batter was crispy, not soggy at all. The chips were crispy and had a nice flavour. I got a nice creamy portion of mushy peas. Food is cooked to order which is a nice touch. Highly recommended.

Twice asked for chips... got home. No chips. Didn't pay for chips but I'll never go again. The end of a family tradition. I think they are victims of their own success. Fish was disappointing too.

Looking for a chippy in Dorchester, we saw this place with rave reviews. It’s great, you can order online specifying the collection time you want, turn up at the appointed time, and collect your meals, all neatly bagged up for you, when they call your name. The reviews are not wrong - and this will be our chippy of choice going forward.

Just moved to Dorchester from Cornwall. We thought Rock Stein's in Padstow was good but Peckish in Camelford was better. Calloways has proved to be even better still. The fish is so fresh and is like the chips superbly cooked. No soggy batter which gives you indigestion just crisp batter and sweet haddock.. Very much worth the wait. Delicious.

Googled a fish and chip shop for our tea on route from our beach day in Weymouth back to our campsite. Ordered online which was super easy to use. Collected in 35 mins. Safe contact less collection. Probably one of THE BEST cod and chips I have ever had! Thank you 😊
