We had a fabulous Christmas Lunch with 25 other residents of Shipton Gorge. Andrea and her team looked after us, service was excellent and hospitality second to none. We enjoyed a delicious three course meal with a selection of Prawn Cocktail, Duck Liver Pate, Garlic Mushrooms for starters followed by Turkey, Steak Pie or a Fish Course then Christmas Pud, a Cheese Plate or Apple and Berry Crumble. The Crumble was so good diners took some home. Our pub has a cozy warm welcoming environment and I’d recommend it to anyone visiting West Dorset.

Simply the best pork belly meal either of us has tasted. Flesh so tender, skin so crisp. Very generous portions, lovely mash and mustard cream sauce. It took a while to come (some drama around changing a beer barrel I think) but was so worth the wait. We hardly had room for the yummy lemon posset!

We stumbled across the New Inn by accident, travelling from Plymouth to Poole and the child complaining of being so hungry that she could hardly think… Upon searching what was nearby the husband gave a call to see if a table was available and was told to just turn up. We are so glad that we did. Upon arrival we were told that they were busy, so we would have a little wait to order. Not a problem at all, we had sprung a visit on them with about 5 minutes warning on a Friday night. Waiting was to be expected in my mind. Within a moment we were sat at our table, drinks in hand. Our order was taken and again we were apologised to for the before mentioned wait. The pub was busy and as said, we hadn’t booked so we were happy just to be accommodated. The food arrived shortly after this, it was piping hot and absolutely delicious. I had the pork belly, that was cooked to perfection and the husband had the sausage and mash. The only comment that was made by the child was that she was sad she couldn’t have another plateful tomorrow! There is a lot of care and love gone into the New Inn and it really shows. The atmosphere was fantastic, the staff super welcoming and the food was perfect. We could not have hoped for a better place for dinner. Thank you for such a good meal!

I feel compelled to respond to the review “I wouldn’t feed my dog here”! This gentleman mentions “one other couple there” and that was me and my husband! Given that you wouldn’t feed your dog there, but say you gave our dog your burger??! You did, indeed, give our dog the last small bit of your burger, but had cleared your plate of everything else! The Manager also came to your table, as she did to ours, to ask if everything was ok with your meal. It’s a shame you didn’t tell her then, or at any other point during the meal, that you weren’t happy. Given the warm welcome she gave, I find it hard to believe that she would not have replaced the meal for you. But you’ll never know because you didn’t say anything! Our meal was absolutely superb. It is the country’s first community run pub so doesn’t have the backing of a large company to spend money on advertising, probably the reason why it was so quiet. I have already recommended it to friends and will definitely be going back when we are next in Dorset.

What a find! So glad we decided to go off the beaten track. We were warmly greeted by a lovely lady and a young lad behind the bar (sorry we didn’t get your names!). We had the fish pie and steak and ale pie with red wine. Could not fault it! Absolutely superb food, clearly home made and not out of the freezer! With the mains to such a high standard, we decided to go for a pudding too, although we were both full from the very generous mains portions. We had sticky toffee pudding and chocolate fudge brownie, both with ice-cream. Again, outstanding quality! We can’t recommend The New Inn highly enough. Good car park and dog friendly.

After a particularly bad Friday afternoon journey we arrived at The New Inn to be greeted by Andrea, the friendly and welcoming manager. From the moment we arrived nothing was too much trouble. We were shown to our ensuite bedroom and after depositing our luggage we were offered a welcome drink which we enoyed sitting on the terrace overlooking stunning views over the hills. We enjoyed dinner at the New Inn on Friday evening, both the homemade fish pie and steak and ale pie were delicious. Bedrooms are clean and have everthing you need for a short stay, the bed was comfy and breakfast was excellent, plenty of choices available made with fresh produce. Despite the pub being busy with a local event we were made to feel welcome and included in the celebrations. All in all a lovely stay with excellent food and great staff - thank you

The pub is a small friendly village pub and the landlady and staff couldn’t have been more accommodating to our large family of 15. The food was good and the service was cheerful and efficient. Generous amounts of veg with Sunday lunch and was able to accommodate adjustments for the fussy eaters amongst us. Enjoyed the lovely little garden area at the back of the pub. They even had a little free library to trade books. Car park for about half a dozen cars.

We live in Shipton and our family arrived en masse for a birthday celebration so we decamped with friends to stay at The New Inn for some peace and quiet at the end of each day. The accommodation is excellent being clean and comfortable and we were able to enjoy a drink with our friends before turning in. Breakfast choices were everything we could have wished for and the land lady Andrea looked after our every need. We are, of coursed, biased because The New Inn is our local but you’d be hard pressed to find better in West Dorset. Our friends were delighted and Kev kept saying how lucky we were to have a village pub like this one. Highly recommended.

Once again we were back in the beautiful shipton gorge. The new inn has become our second home now for two years in a row. Andrea is the most wonderful landlady and host and makes us feel like family every time we visit! And really deserves and award for the hard work she puts in for all aspects of the pub. The food is wonderful and so is the cider!. Being only a short walk away meant we were there every night to enjoy her company and the atmosphere of the pub. There is nothing she won’t accommodate, especially with having our small son with us (ice cream a plenty). There’s a wonderful pub garden with fantastic views that you will never tire of seeing. Be aware, no phone signal (O2) which is actually a blessing from the rat race of a busy town but Wi-Fi is provided inside. We would highly recommend making a visit and potentially making new friends and finding out about this beautiful village. Stunning hanging baskets not included ;)

Delightful character and welcoming village pub tucked away in beautiful and peaceful countryside! Superb service, well kept beer, and excellent food! Well worth a detour to find this place! We found by chance and will definitely be back! Highly recommended!!!!

Lucky enough to eating here in storm so with the  gentle rocking motion you could imagine the train carriage was departing for Paris. The décor is kitschy, some may say it too much but I found it interesting and sort fits with dining on a train. The sea food speaks for itself, I hope you will enjoy it.

Had an excellent meal, and the service felt indiviualistic, even though the staff were busy.
