The lack of ambience, it was more like a social club atmosphere. The food was bland and didn't taste anything. The garden outside is good for the kids to run around. Overall I wouldn't rush back to this plqce

We went to this pub for Sunday lunch at 2pm and all opted for meal and dessert with no starters. The food was superb and their gluten free Yorkshire pudding was the best I have tasted. Sadly, the occasion was spoiled by poor service, with long delays at every stage. At 3.50, after a very long wait to order desserts we gave up and left without.

First chance Ive had to do this so apologies if the owner needs to reply and deal with the issue 'at the time'. Some of this was addressed in dubious when someone else tried to review and is highlighted below. We were guests at a wedding held here and the venue is gorgeous, food supplied by the Gaggle of Geese very good (although we had to wait an hour for it). There was only one thing that spoiled the event. This was the attitude of the manager / owner who was picky, abrupt and awkward at the best of the times, at the worst of times, she spoke to a lot of the guests as if they were at school, constantly reminding them of the rules. The 'campsite' hasnt got an elsan facility which is unusual, although there are toilet / shower blocks so dont try to drain away any washing up water into the surrounding hedging as you will be picked up on this. The owner is quick to point out that she doesnt advertise that there is an elsan point, this is her let-out clause, I think. Her 'over-policing' of the event left a bit of a stale taste in the mouth and was experienced by a lot of the guests on multiple occasions throughout the weekend. When a friend put a short review online mentioning the lack of elsan, they received an immediate email from the owner suggesting that it might be wise to remove the review or it would overshadow the wedding/married couple in a bad way (was this a veiled threat?) - very strange and like I say, the attitude spoiled what would otherwise have been a perfect weekend for everyone.

Have been camping at the gaggle of geese for 6 years, every summer. Absolutely love our time there, everytime. Pub and camping is run by a lovely family and their team (who also seem part of the family). This year we camped 4 nights as 6 adults and 3 children. During our time we booked and enjoyed one even meal from the main menu and another night enjoyed the pizza oven menu. Food all fresh and tasty, with well loved classics, some fab vegan and vegetarian options and more unique (but very tasty) additions. Service is polite, efficient and helpful. Wide selection of drinks enjoyed teas, coffees, stout, wine and cocktails over the 4 days. The setting and pub are beautiful and relaxed. It's the perfect mix of fun and relaxation. Camping wise - pitches are large, even when fully booked, it is spacious and never feels crowded. The toilet and shower facilities are well maintained, clean and also stocked up. Water is good pressure and as hot or cold as you desire. During the evenings there's plenty of space for family games and activities. After 22:00 is quiet time, which is great for settling children to bed and having some quiet, grown up time, around the fire - enjoying the unspoilt sky and amazing stars. Fire pits on site are very sturdy, safe and easy to hire. Fire wood also avalaible from the pub. There are two lovely park wardens that are friendly, happy to help and keep the campsite how it should be. Also shout out to the gardener- the gaggle becomes more beautiful every year, with hidden gems. Our children enjoyed the play bus, crazy golf, ping pong and feeding the goats. It has always felt safe both camping and using the pub. Every year since we first camped, the gaggle of geese has developed and grown, but remains homely and familiar. Fellow campers, locals and other visitors have always been friendly and welcoming. The whole gaggle team are friendly and welcoming. There always willing to help out with reasonable queries/requests. Thank you for having us again - See you next year.

Some of you probably won’t expect that the Gaggle do Weddings but boy do they do Weddings. My wife, Steph and I, got married in my mother’s meadow opposite the Gaggle and had the Wedding Breakfast and Reception on the Gaggle’s ground. I have grown up with the pub since a young age and Simon and Sarah have transformed it into a magical place. The pub alone on a normal night is a lovely place to go to for a quiet pint but get them on a buzzing evening and the atmosphere is fantastic. Although Sarah and Simon have recently decided to venture into the wedding business at the Gaggle, it doesn’t show. From the moment we booked them to the day, they went to every length to make sure our day was special and we felt taken care of. Everything just became easier when Sarah, Simon and the team took on our wedding. The tepees looked beautiful as did the garden and surrounding areas. You can stay on site if you wanted to in either a tent or a shepherd’s hut (I stayed in the latter and loved it - felt like a kid again camping!). The food was delicious and the staff were attentive and friendly, even though they must have had a lot to do! We can’t recommend The Gaggle of Geese enough. If you want a magical wedding, this is the place to book.

Visiting our son in Yeovil and he booked Sunday lunch at "The Gaggle" for 4 of us. Probably the best pub grub we've had for a long, long time. Son and daughter-in-law had the sharing platter, which gave pork, beef AND chicken whist my wife and I had the duo meal (pork and beef) Portions were generous, food was very well cooked (beef was perfectly pink, pork belly beautifully cooked with proper crackling attached). Honestly could not fault it!

We met friends here for Sunday lunch in Feb 2024. We had booked in advance. I had a delicious pint of Ruby Ale (see picture), and it was so good I had to have two more during our visit. The pub is deceptively large (looks like a house from the front), but is extended out the back including a skittle alley, used for dining when not in use (but not unpleasant or dark at all). We all had the "duo of meats" roast, (beef and pork). This came with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, carrots, purple cabbage, gravy plus extra gravy in a jug, and we opted for extra cauliflower cheese. I was superb. The pork in particular was perfection, it fell apart - cooked to perfection - and the crackling as absolutely spot on - best ever. The beef was tender and excellent too. The portions were generous - which is good cos I'm a hungry, large person. My friends had wine (Merlot), which was good, and we all had pudding - I enjoyed the chocolate brownie but one of our party had the chocolate sundae which gave me severe food envy. They are dog-friendly. The service was prompt, informal, friendly and well-organised. The pub is lovely, and has extensive gardens and outdoors facilities [camping etc], I can't wait to return in the summer. In short, I was seriously impressed - we will be back soon.

We had their new Sunday roast sharing board (there was 3 of us) and it was amazing. The amount of meat on it is well worth the money. Perfectly cooked pork belly, beef and chicken leg. Showers were hot, powerful and plentiful, toilets clean and fun in the shepherds huts. Lots to do on an afternoon or eve such as ping pong, crazy golf and the best playbus with a soft play in that I have ever come across. When we first discovered this site last year, we couldn't believe our luck! We came away singing it's praises and recommending it to anyone that would listen ... but what a difference a year makes! We have just left the site following a very stressful 2 nights. My autistic son was desperate to return and savour the idyllic child-friendly site that he so loved last year. He has spent the last 2 days crying, shaking and in meltdown, having been abused by wretched ill-mannered brats (right in front of me). He is now terrified to even leave my side onsite. Children from nearby tents have been throwing the children's furniture, screaming in peoples' ears, threatening to hit and kick others, swearing, and telling my children that if they don't get off of 'their' play bus they'll throw them off! Unsupervised toddlers in nappies are playing freely- with full nappies and no clothes, in the ball pool. It is a health and safety/ safeguarding nightmare, and it appears that the recommendation of supervising your children at all times in the bus, or due to dangers posed by the stream and risk of falling down the banks etc is not enforced. 'Campers' appear to have no common sense, manners, or duty of care for their own children. The entire site is over-run with feral unsupervised children whilst adults sit in groups at their tents drinking all day long. When it becomes too dark to let their children run loose they bring them back to their tents to shine flashlights at other people and their tents, dance in the disco lights in the front of their tents and let them continuously slam camper van doors! They then continue to drink and shout until gone 11.30. Then you have the other families who are apparently oblivious to time, at the other end of the day, and are allowing their children to scream, fight and play in the middle of the field from 6am!!!! Or the dogs running free and chasing children, no owner in sight, that sit begging for food or nosing around in your bags. Despite going out for the entire day to avoid the site yesterday we are all completely exhausted, my son is jumping at every noise or person passing by and we are heading home to recover. (From a holiday!?) What truly amazes me is that the decline in standards is despite there now being resident wardens in the field!? I could not tell you who they are, what they look like or what they do, as I have not seen anything of them -other than the day they were drilling a door by the showers, which they then left wide open. . . with bleach and cleaning products in easy reach of the unsupervised toddler and children running riot onsite. We most certainly will not ever be returning after this visit, and would no longer recommend it to anyone (as I am fortunate enough not to personally know anyone who would behave or accept others behaving in such a way as the majority of the other guests). Do not visit if you want to appreciate the peacefulness of .the countryside, or if you have normal, good-mannered children looking for an innocent, supervised camping play experience.

The grounds are expansive and include a double decker bus for the kids to play in, football goals which are moveable, crazy golf, a camping site, a huge tee pee type tent and best of all the Pub itself. The Team are excellent. Very helpful and friendly. The outside dining area is a tad rustic but charming and within earshot of the live entertainment that performs in the tee pee. The food that we had was amazing and very reasonably priced. The alcohol price's were comparable to other pubs in the area. Wow, just wow, how good is the gaggle and geese. Would highly recommended, it is situated in a beautiful village setting. The food and drinks were excellent. Friendly, kind staff, and plenty of activities for the kids, and to finish it off there was live music on a sunny Bank Holiday weekend.

What a wonderful venue. Expansive outdoor seating area, a double decker bus for the kids to play in, a huge tent which you can sit in to eat or be entertained. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced, the drinks were also moderately priced but to top it all the friendliness and fantastic team were the icing on the cake. Well worth a visit.

Had a lovely Sunday dinner here today. Very friendly staff, lovely decor, prompt service. Food was fab. Had vegetarian burger followed by Apple crumble with cinnamon. Though busy, it was quiet enough for conversation. Would highly recommend.

Noting previous responses by the management im sure my review will follow the same trend but in the hope that some common sense and a need to take on board constructive comments prevails i would say the following Out of 4 meals ordered one was nice 2 were edible but bland , one dish was very dry and overcooked We commented not to receive any discount but as we had waited quite a while due to “team photos” which to be fair we were told sorry the food we expected would be better than it turned out to be and felt we needed to say something The reaction from I believe the manager was remarkably abrupt and made a not so bad feeling so much worse especially when we paid It would seem to me that had we been regulars there would have been a different reaction I feel this pub has a large local clientele so if you are on holiday it may pay to go more towards a larger area where the competition drives good will to all customers regardless of where they come from

Just got back from the Gaggle of Geese where 5 of us had a meal. 4 of us had the roast dinner which was a huge portion and some of the best gravy I've ever tasted! They also bring out a big jug of extra gravy which is a bonus. The 5th person had the mushroom burger which was also delicious. Would definatly reccomend. Service is great and very friendly.

Stayed in a shepherds hut here fri and sat. We arrived around 7pm fri eve and despite the pub being busy Sarah took us straight to the hut and got us checked in. 30 mins later we were in the pub enjoying the well priced food and drink. The chicken and stuffing pie was amazing. 4 great rotating cask ales on, had to have one of each of course! Ate and drink at the pub again on Saturday night. A busy pub in a small rural village, so the owners are doing something right as there were lots of people in on both nights. All the Staff are extremely efficient and very friendly. We never waited long for anything and we felt like we were treated as friends not customers. There’s lots of friendly locals in the bar and dogs are welcomed too. The shepherds hut was stunning, warm cosy, very clean and secluded. Only downside to this place was leaving to go home. If you want a really good local pub, a tranquil escape then this place is for you. Already looking at dates on the calendar to go back! Thank you so much to all the staff for making our stay so pleasant.
