This restaurant has a wide selection of authentic Vietnamese dishes and are not expensive. We came back to this place whenever we were in Melbourne and the quality of the foods and services were always good and have not changed during the last six years. It was quite crowded with the locals so you need to book in advance. It is also difficult to find a car parking on Victoria street.

Service wasn’t great. Had to ask for tea three times. Food wasn’t quick to come out, and when it did it was only just mediocre. Good prices, nice atmosphere but I’m sure there are better Vietnamese restaurants in Richmond

Expecting a ‘standard’ Vietnamese Restaurant experience, was very pleasantly surprised with the high level of staff attention and amenability to our largish party. Nothing was too much trouble, and fed a family of 7 for under $20 a head. The food was quick, hot tasty and plentiful. Thank you

Went here for a family get together. Menu has a wide variety of Vietnamese and Asian dishes and are very reasonably priced. The flavours are all different and tasted super. Although the place was packed on this Saturday night the service was prompt and pleasant.

I went into Ha Long expecting a decent meal. I didn't even get that. I got a spoonful of bad service, with a side of the worst Vietnamese food you'd ever taste. First off, I walked in and smelt a nose-wrenching smell, I don't know if it was the food in the back, or the food the customers were eating in the lobby. I looked around and saw a lot of disappointment. I got seated, and I ordered the rice-paper rolls for an appetizer and squid with plum sauce for the main course. Now, let me tell ya, the squid tasted like it was taken right out of the ocean and thrown onto my plate. Almost completely raw! The rolls were also undercooked, I felt like I was shoving the cold handle of a faucet down my throat. STAY CLEAR OF THIS PLACE MATE!

Ha Long is a great place for an array of Vietnamese/Asian dishes. Expect like any restaurant on Victoria street, an extremely long menu with that never ends. Ordered the combination fried rice noodles and portion size was huge and the tastes were great. Staff were extremely friendly and nice too.

If you want quick service without a smile, to be left alone and a resonable quality of food then put Ha Long on the list. I had the Rice Vermicelli with chilli braised beef soup. It was good but large. Probably large enough to feed a family during Louis XIV's reign. The cost was barely noticeable, i had change out of $20 and i ordered entre and brought beers in. Dont go here for high dining, go here if you want cheap fairly good food

Had dinner in here with a couple of friends and was pretty disappointed with everything. Firstly, the food was of poor quality and size. We had spring rolls and rice paper rolls for entree which were bland and dry. For mains we had the Duck Special, Salt & Pepper Squid and Pork and Plum sauce. All mains were quite small, bland and dry. The next issue was that at the table next to us, an employee made dozens of spring roles and COUGHED several times over the food without a care. She also wore NO gloves and was even wearing her jewelry. While this was happening the employee behind the bar was washing utensils in some kind of commercial machine that made a hell of a racket. Why any of this activity took place in the main restaurant where the customers were is beyond me. The staff were also incredibly unfriendly and unwelcoming and never greeted us or thanked us. So combine this with extremely poor hygiene and poor food I will never go back and recommend you steer well clear of this place.

After trying several Vietnamese restaurants in Melbourne, i have to say Ha Long serves one of the best "ca kho to" in town, if not the best. Their "canh chua ca" is very nice too. Don't bother to come here if you just want "pho" or "com tam" since they have plenty to offer, and all are reasonably priced.

We were fortunate to go to Ha Long in Victoria St, Richmond with Vietnamese speaking regulars, who introduced us to some great dishes in this authentic, family run restaurant. Service was quick and friendly. The roast quail and the beef wrapped in vine leaves were a treat but everything we tried was excellent, including deep fried fish and several salads. The restaurant is BYO, which we took advantage of by bringing some well-aged fine wine which was well handled by the staff and which completed the great food very well. We have already made two return visits and look forward to taking more friends and visitors in future.

We had the most wonderful Vietnamese duck soup and then vermicelli with pork and spring roll dishes for lunch two days in a row. We then took our son out for dinner there and the food was Chinese in style and did not taste fresh. The duck dish was very dry and you could tell had been cooked and reheated, the stir fry vegetable had stale tofu in it and the favours did not resemble Vietnamese cooking at all. It's as though there are two chefs running the restaurant for lunch and dinner. Recommend for lunch but NOT dinner.

Large very stylish restaurant with a well-stocked bar and large menu. We were introduced by our best friends who love dining here and leave it to the head waiter to combine a mixed range of dishes for us. This included whitebait and mini spring roll entrees, 4 mains of prawns, chicken, beef and pork dishes with mixed vegetable, and lychees and banana ice-cream desserts. Their beer and wine range is excellent. They also do a happy birthday presentation with sparklers to embarass the birthday boy!!

service was good, but with all the competition along Victoria st I really thought they could've put a bit more into there meals. spring rolls where good and lettuce was fresh and crisp I ordered scallops with ginger and vegetables and was disappointed as they had cut 2 scallops into 8 pieces and sprinkled a few vegetables on my plate for $18.00. my husband however ordered the pepper beef it came out on a sizzle plate with more vegetables unfortunately the steak was quite chewy and very grizzly but a fraction cheaper.

So many Vietnames restaurants to choose from in Victoria St - but the Ha Long is one of the best. I ate there alone, ordered rice paper rolls (with pork and prawns), and the serve was generous with a large bowl of crunchy peanut spicy sauce. But the highlight was the Vietnamese coleslaw with chicken (goi ga). It was a stinking hot day and this cold dish was perfect. Its the best version I've had in Australia: generous serve of raw, crunchy diced vegetables, plenty of chicken and the flavours were vivid, vibrant and sharp. And there was fresh coriander on top of the plate. Superb. Will definitely be back to explore the menu further. This is a big, open restaurant with decoration that is just so so. Service was friendly and prompt.

It was a first for us at Ha Long. There were seven of us and we started with a range of starters including spring rolls, rice paper rolls, san choi boy and crab claws. There all arrived and were very tasty. The rice paper rolls, vegetarian and prawn, were plump and fresh. Mains consisted of salt & pepper prawns, chicken satay, salt & pepper squid and there house speciality, duck with a crispy skin and flavoursome sauce poured over upon arriving at the table. The asian greens were crisp and tasty. We had a very enjoyable time and will return again. Staff were friendly and helpful.

We chose this restaurant of the many on Victoria St, on the recommendation of a local Vietnamese Aussie. My wife loves Vietnamese duck soup and so we've tried it in lots of places. My wife was swooning over the stock in this soup and the generous addition of a duck maryland and lots of bok choy made for a winning combination. The ultimate in duck soup! Superb, superb, superb and at lunchtime its an absolute steal at $10.

My wife and I love Ha Long. Especially the bò lá lốt which we always order a plate or two. The food tastes really fresh with crisp vegetables, rich sauces and authentic herbs. The past couple of times, I have had the chef's special canh chua cá which I thoroughly recommend. The portions are generous and the restaurant is licensed but also allows BYO wine. The restaurant is decorated in bright, vibrant colours like you might find in Vietnam. Beware, though, that in winter, tables near the door can be draughty.

So the waitress who took out order read through it afterwards. She was a little hard to understand but it sounded like she'd missed one of the dishes - so we confirmed that she got it. She said yes. We confirmed again. She repeated it after me and said yes, she got it. But she didn't got it. Rather, she for-got it. So while we waited for that soup to arrive, and while we were just starting the entrees, the main courses arrived. I appreciate the desire to cook the food and get it out of the kitchen ASAP but common restaurant practice is generally to wait for the guests to at least make a decent fist of one course before landing the next on the table. (And it really did land with a thump.)

Of the many excellent Vietnamese restaurants in Victoria St, Richmond, this is the one that we keep coming back to. The food is always super-fresh. The service is lovely, we have taken our young children there since they were babies and the waiters and owners are so lovely with the kids. To be able to feed a family of 4 with under $50 on such good quality food is amazing. We have seen large groups of Vietnamese travellers at Ha Long which I believe is a good endorsement as to the authenticity of the food. Our travels in Vietnam back this theory also. Never had a bad experience or even a bad dish at this place over many years.

This is a good no-fuss Vietnamese eatery. The menu selection is long, but not varied - it's just the same basic dishes with different options. Having said that though, once you make your choice, your food will be well cooked and nice, with very good flavours. The place is just as you find it - unadorned, unassuming, just as you see it. I had dinner here. My companion had the Chicken Satay Skewer and I had the Crab & Asparagus Soup. The satay was heavy (tear-inducing) on the chili, or some other spice and the soup was good, if just a little bland. For mains, we shared a Vietnamese Chicken Coleslaw and some Chinese Brocolli with Garlic Sauce. Both very good. The service is fine, but don't expect a nicely timed, well spaced meal - all your food will come when it's cooked - whether you're ready for it or not. Our entrees arrived separately, then our mains arrived half way through our entrees. If you can live with that, then this place will be a good haunt for you. Just good tucker - I'd come back here, no problems. There were plenty of other diners here too, so obviously others feel the same way.

Best Indian food in the area. Lovely poppadoms that are crispy and fresh. Naan breads are soft inside but have crispy leoparding on the top. Rice is always great not dry or oily. Main meals have the best spices and flavour. Vegetable korma is the bomb 👍 When it comes to hot curries some places skimp on spices but not this place they are HOT 🔥🔥🔥. Staff are friendly with prices very good
