Its like travelling back in time. A good thing really, the decor s of an era when you had warm welcoming pubs. The host was very nice as was the cheff. The food was a great sucess although I think my batter was beer batter and a little bitter. Will return, thanks.

We went for a family Sunday lunch 8 adults and 2small children we were shown to our table which was quite crammed into space while sorting out seating arrangements we asked to order drinks but told to sit down first before taking order. There was a lot of tanks behind bar with insects in not sure on if suitable in restaurant. But on the plus side we had Sunday carvery and none of us could fault the food plenty of choice and loads of vegetables. We were told on arrival because little one was in high chair no charge for food but because she had a plate she was charged ?????. Probably would not go again but like I said food good so make up your own mind

Don't expect fine dining but do expect a great welcome and very reasonable prices. Excellent beer. They also do takeaway pizza (not tried).

we stayed locally and decided to come here as it was nearest pub, when we got there it looked a little desolate but as soon as we entered we were welcomed with open arms. the atmosphere was calming and the food fabulous. the children had pizzas and my wife and I had steak which was cooked perfectly. will definitely go again.

We were staying locally and were recommended this pub as a good place to eat. We were not disappointed and ate here three times during our 10 day stay. The food is simple reasonably priced and served by attentive staff. We'll definitely return on our next visit to the area.

Having eaten here on numerous occasions over the last 10 years, we experienced varying standards of both food and service. Teresa and Dave have taken over since February 2017 and seem to have made a variety of improvements, including employing Paul as Barman and "front of house". Paul was so welcoming and professional when he was faced with our group of 10 at lunchtime. We decided to eat from a special lunch menu priced at £4.95 per head plus a lovely range of proper puds priced at £3.50. All really enjoyed our pub meals of faggots, sausages, battered cod or chilli and received very attentive service. One of our party has a special dietary requirement that was catered for and we ate in bright, welcoming surroundings. We shall look forward to our next group lunch together. I noticed that they also run themed evenings such as Paella nights and a special Friday night Steak/Fish supper for two, costing £20.00 total and includes a bottle of House Wine!

Service very slow, ordered a gluten free dessert, only to be told after I had eaten it that is was not gluten free after all. The waitress was very apologetic and upset but no word from the owner or offer of refund. Ok being coeliac this will mean a bad stomach for a few days, but if someone had a bad allergy to something it could be far more serious.

Me and my girlfriend decided to stop in here on our way back from Pembrokeshire on our way home and it was a brilliant find. We had our dog with us so we weren't allowed inside, however it was warm enough outside so we just sat in the smoking area where there were also tables. With it being a sunday, the only thing on offer was a sunday lunch or a broccoli bake so we ordered one of each. The broccoli bake was out of this world! I would consider driving the 2 hours back just to eat it again. The sunday lunch was also amazing and every single thing on the place was really tasty and good value for money. The pub itself just looks like your standard traditional pub but the food was so much more! Plus, the staff were all lovely which always adds to the service. Definitely recommend this place!

This place was always my dad's favourite place and every time we visited we went here for Sunday Lunch. Home cooked and plenty of it and well within any budget. The menu is vast, service is good - possibly need to book as it's always full. My dad has since passed on but we still visit frequently with my Step - mum and partner, not once have we had a bad meal. If you are ever around Mid Wales Llandrindod area - go here you will not be disappointed

We eat here as often as we can. The food is always amazing and the welcome is warm. Sunday lunch is fantastic. Linda is a fabulous cook and the prices are very reasonable. Highly recommend the Gwystre to anyone. My brother in law stayed overnight as they do bed and breakfast too and he said it was lovely.

We ate there twice this week. We had two finicky eaters with us; and they were delighted with the menu. The only place in a 20 mile radius of Llandrindod Wells; that served food to suit all. If you plan to eat here; and it is either autumn / winter or early spring; where it is still cold out; call ahead to book table in front of fireplace. We didn't and regretted it. It was chilly. The food is served quickly; and every one(four of us); ate all on our plates; and there were no complaints. They have an extensive menu. They also have an extensive dessert menu. Not every thing is available on the dessert menu. The 1st night we ate there; they had a pavlova dessert; BUT on the next night; it was gone. So, no sweet on night two! The first night; the server was a a funny; older guy; who was a joker. The second time we atr there; there was a younger guy; who was cheerful and smiled alot.

Eat here every week good pub food lots to pick from and a good Sunday roast, roast only Sunday dinner times, must say the food and drinks are not over price at all but I guess that why it can be very busy on times, not going to find better in this area for good pub food

Stopped here on a Friday evening. Pub was very busy, but the service was polite and speedy. The menu included standard pub fare but with much much more. The food was much better than could be expected from a country pub and over the three courses that we enjoyed nothing disappointed. Will make this one of our regular eating places. I was driving so it was not too important that the pub only had one real ale. The place was friendly and the hosts went out of their way to make us welcome and feel comfortable.

Our destination as a group from The Jaguar Enthusiasts Club of West Wales very friendly welcome our host even assisted us with parking our cars. Excellent choice of food for Sunday Lunch my salmon & shrimp fish pie was very tasty (& hot!) I had a soup starter even a choice here rather than the usual 'soup of the day' All our group were happy with their food & the friendly banter (Welsh Rugby) A long run from Mumbles but well worth it. We drove back home along some of the famous Welsh Rally roads to end a good day.

We arrived somewhat late for our booking having got lost a couple of times on the way. (recommend a sat nav!)At first it appeared to be just a very busy locals drinking pub but once inside and we saw the extensive selection on the menu boards we realised that food was also an important part of this pub.It is run by Pete and his wife Linda (their behaviour and the general humour provided a very entertaining evening!)Although the actual dining area is small, you can eat anywhere. The food was first rate and very good value. Considering it was an extremely busy Saturday night the service was prompt.A quirky pub, well worth a visit.

We've been here many times and you always gave a good meal. There's plenty of choice and what you get is piping hot and homemade. The steak pie is great with plenty of meat. The Rev James beer is very well kept. Overall good food at reasonable prices.

We dropped in without booking hoping to get lunch. I was with my friend and her disabled dad. They were able to offer us a table and from the start the experience was excellent. The staff member ( I think it was the Manager) came out to the car park to see if we needed any help with the wheelchair. We were promptly seated and drinks and food order taken quickly. All members of staff were polite and friendly. The food came in a good waiting time and we were all really pleased with the food. I had an ultimate burger, my friend a Thai beef dish and her dad an all day breakfast. Great portion sizes, hot and all tasty. Really reasonably priced as well ! Thankyou for such a great experience

Friendly staff, hearty, simple menu, great coffee. We stopped here after walking Crickhowell to Brecon via the Black Mountains. They weren’t bothered about muddy boots but we took off at door anyway. Toilets immaculate. Chef’s playlist that could be heard in the dining area - not a bad song on it for about an hour. Good on him!!

We stopped here to break up a long journey. Straight away it seemed very unwelcoming. My son is autistic, and because he seemed more comfortable in the corner section we asked to move tables. We were advised that was the dog friendly section, and obviously we would move if needed, it was quiet at the time, but this seem like an inconvenience to move tables. Then when my son was wandering in the pub, this seemed to annoy a couple of guests, and I know he seemed hyperactive but these are some of his autistic traits, this seemed to annoy one couple in particular, where the man was making very rude comments ( I know you have no control over who comes into your pub) but overall it just felt very unwelcoming in there. Are kids not allowed in here? It didn't seem like it. We come past this pub often, so we will not be stopping here again.

My wife and I were staying in a B&B in Berriew which didn’t cook evening meals on a Sunday, so we decided to try this inn for our dinner. We arrived without reservations, but were quickly shown to a table by a very pleasant member of staff who immediately took our drinks order. The drinks arrived and we ordered our food soon after. It didn’t take long for the food to arrive, and it looked very well presented. My wife had lasagne, which she told me was hot and tasty, however my steak and ale pie with chips was not quite so. Again, my meal was hot, but the meat in the pie was very grisly, which was a shame as the pastry was excellent. The chips and beans with my meal were first class, so absolutely no problems with them. As we ate our meal the chef came out and asked if everything was okay with the food. I told him about the meat in the pie, to which he laughed and then walked away. Now, what’s the point in asking me about my meal if you are not going to take action when you receive such a comment? Anyway, we finished the meal and went up to the bar to pay, at which time we were asked again if all was okay. I told the member of staff at the bar about the meat and this time it had a totally different outcome, in that someone, whom I took to be the manager, became involved, and she showed concern about the fact that my meal had not been perfect. She also told me that she would be having words with the supplier about said pie. We ended the conversation coming to an amicable agreement of a goodwill gesture, so I’m more than happy with the outcome. If it had not have been for the issue with the pie then this meal would have been almost perfect, in that the staff were lovely, the restaurant was clean and in a good state of decoration, and the service was first rate. My only other comment would be that the prices were a tad dearer than around my home city of Leicester, but not unusual for a country inn.
