Had a good meal here. Friendly staff. Good value for money.

Please read this review in the light that we were late to the party so to speak. We had been out and about and only got to dinner quite late so made it just ahead of the kitchen closing which was a relief as we had selected the place specifically due to it's good reviews. Note they are stairs to go up to the restaurant. I didn't specially look if it was accessible so you would need to ask the restaurant directly if this is a requirement. The service was good, maybe too attentive as with children it just takes a while for decisions to be made as to what will be eaten. We had the paneer and dumplings as well as popadoms for starters. Mixed grill for one child and chicken nuggets for the fussy child 😂 which she approved of. All the food came out at once again I think this was due to how late we were so we really had no pause between courses. We had Naan and pilau rice, I had the goat and my husband had chicken from the Nepalese options. They do come with the bone in, which they tell you before you order, so if this is not your thing, try something else. Everything tasted good. I did think the dumplings casing was a little thicker than my personal preference but tasty. Overall I felt a little rushed hence my statement at the start of the review. Other than that we were pleasantly surprised at the reasonable bill considering how much food we had. I would like to return at a more reasonable hour and eat leisurely. However would highly recommend and return myself.

Gurkha's Diner is a small, cosy restaurant above a chip shop. Only around a dozen covers - so maybe it'd be better to book during busy times. Staff were very helpful and friendly and service was quick and efficient. The food was first rate, hot and plentiful. Delivery service available. Accessibility is rather restrictive because of the stairs up in to the dining room.

Delicious Nepalese and Indian food. Naan bread was a bit dry. Very large selection. Staff very nice and attentive.

I celebrated my wife’s birthday by having a quiet dinner. The food was good and delicious. Ambience was great. Pankaj served us beautifully and was very kind and courteous. It was a beautiful evening in Paignton Devon UK 🇬🇧

What an absolute treasure of a restaurant in Paignton! The restaurant is run by Nepalese people, and got an enormous seal of approval from my Nepalese companion. This restaurant made her holiday. Food is genuinely authentic, and truly delicious. Portions are ample and prices are very reasonable. They also have a menu section familiar to British Indian restaurants, so all expected curry dishes are available. I've no doubt that they'd do a fantastic tikka massala, korma, madras, etc. But it's more fun to get the Nepalese special dishes. The choice is almost overwhelming! We visited twice, and loved everything that we tried (we really stuffed ourselves ensuring that we tried as much as possible). The goat curry is sensational, being slow cooked and bursting with flavour. We couldn't believe how much goat we got given! So good that we had it both visits. The staff are delightful, and completely committed to customer service. You cannot miss out on this restaurant when in Paignton - be sure to make a booking to ensure that you do not.

Food was not at all tasty and having seen that we hadn’t eaten one of the dishes at all, the waiter replied, well you shouldn’t have fish in that dish as it has no flavour (in which case why serve it?!) 2 of the members who are there were also sick afterwards

Food was absolutely on point. It was deliciously balanced with spiciness. Chef came to talk to us at the end and service was fantastic. I would highly recommend anyone visiting Paignton. We are staying only for the weekend and going back again.

Honestly please do not go by the looks outside. This restaurant is absolutely incredible. The food was to die for best I've had in any Indian. And to top it off the chef even visited every table asking if everything was ok with food. Clearly a restaurant that has pride in what they do and customer experience.

Bread was the highlight of the meal - definately get one if you come here! All other food we had was good, service excellent. Don’t be put off by the entrance or stairwell up to the restaurant - it’s a gem!

This restaurant is a wonderful little gem in Paignton. We stumbled upon it by chance and so glad we did. We were visiting the town for the weekend (friends get together from London/Essex & Plymouth) for the Xmas train and had a lovely end to our evening by booking our table in Gurkha's Diner. The family run restaurant was a fabulous find, the family/staff were super friendly and very attentive without being intrusive as we enjoyed the delicious meal. Recommend this restaurant without hesitation and we'll definitely visit again when we travel to Paignton next. Thank you to everyone at Gurkha's Diner for our warm welcome and delicious meal x

Home away from home, happened to be in Paignton all the way from Nepal for a family visit and discovered this cosy Nepalese restautant. The food they serve is authentic nepalse and momo is exactly as it taste in Nepal. Varied mixed menu choice both from nepal and India. Staffs were really helpful and at the end of the meal Chef came out of the kitchen to get the feedback from us which you normally dont experience at other indian restaurant. Will definitley visit again on our next visit. Try the Nepalese curry from the menu which will blow your taste with the diffrent subtle spices. Good luck for the Team Gurkhas diner.

Superb little gem of a restaurant, hidden away above a chippy in the main town. Seek it out, it's worth a visit. The Goat curry was fantastic, as the photo shows.

I've only ever ordered a takeaway here, the place is clean, the food is TO DIE FOR (and I don't say that lightly, having worked in the industry for nearly 20 year s) Try the special nan, and their amazing butter chicken!

Great food, great service, great atmosphere but a bit on the pricey side for food.

Curry was good as was the naan but sent out stale poppadoms (can rip them like paper) and at £1 each that’s not really acceptable.

Food was great, service was fine, quick and tasty place is quite small but wasn't a problem for us. Would go back.

The best neapalese and Indian cuisine in the heart of Paignton. So authentic that you’ve never tasted the curry like this before and it’s guaranteed. Vegan and vegetarian friendly so vast that I’ve never seen that many varieties in the menu before in any other Indian restaurant. Staff makes you feel like you are home . Service is incredible and they are not on top of you as you are enjoying your meal. Definitely recommend this family run restaurant and you won’t be disappointed.

First time to vist as stay in at Paignton remended by hotel staff food really nice nothing to much trouble if you needed anything could do with lick of paint and carpets changing up stairs but overall worth a vist just of high street in Paignton

Von der Fassade des Gebäudes darf man sich nicht abschrecken lassen. Über eine steile Treppe gelangt man in das erste Obergeschoss zum Restaurant. Das Ambiente und die Einrichtung ist nett. Das Essen einfach köstlich. Die Gästetoiletten sind entsprechend dem Bedarf.

Small but friendly restaurant with great food. Confident chef who comes out to speak to his guests snd makes sure they are happy with the food. Reasonably priced with excellent menu choices. Great find!

Best takeaway in the bay by a mile. Food always tastes amazing and order always correct and complete. Communication accurate on delivery times too and usually arrives early. Fab

Fancied trying Nepalese food for a change instead of Indian as Indian food, although very nice, always makes me feel full and I never eat it all. 🙏 This was amazing! good portions and really good flavour levels, I went in for more and I never do that. I thought the chill garlic chicken was going to be unforrgoving spice wise but the balance was spot on!

Many a time I have passed this restaurant but tonight I finally made it through the door. Fantastic service and the food was excellent, the chef even came out to chat. I cannot wait to return and I thoroughly recommend the Goat Curry

Food and service very good. Very small restaurant you may need to be there very early. Not a place for people with a mobility problem you have to climb stairs. But in fairness if you can it's worth a visit.

Walked in for my first time for takeaway was made very welcome, the Kathmandu beer was exceptional while I waited and I must say the food was amazing too. Everything was perfect and so fresh tasting from the naan, poppadoms fried rice and the delicious garlic chilli chicken just wow and couldn't even save any for next day leftovers! One of the best dine experiences we've had in Paignton. The staff were all very friendly, the food was delicious, cooked beautifully with tender pieces of chicken and lamb. Special mention for the peshwari naan! It was Diwali and even though we were their last table, they didn't make us feel rushed or unwelcome. Would highly recommend to anyone in the area. We will definitely come again!

Our first time trying Nepalese food and it was delicious, my partner wasn’t sure when I first mentioned that I wanted to try this place but by the time we finished he was full of praise for the amazing flavours of the food. As a chef who likes trying new foods I will definitely be looking to try and prepare some dishes as good as they produced, challenge on.

Really struggled to write this review as the owner was a really nice guy... unfortunately the closing time said 10pm and we got there at 8.40pm only to be told they would be closing. Then got told it's ok to come in. The place needs updating its old! I totally get it, that the clientele are likely to be day trippers or the local drunks as it's literally off the beach this place. So the quality of the food is catered for those folks. I am not sure what went wrong because we came of the good reviews on Tripadvisor and on Google. Instead, this was like eating an Asda take away kit. The food was plain and bland with small portions. We only stayed because it was getting late and had the kids with me. Not sure if the chief was different or they guy just wanted to go home and couldn't careless. Word of advice to anyone if it's empty like when we went walk away.

Staff were really friendly and place was clean, so feel sorry to levae this review. However, in honesty, the food was quite bland. We had a paneer shashlick, which had far to bigger chunks with no detectable tandoori flavour (was more like tomato sauce). We then asked for authetically spiced mains, being indian, and kindly assured they would do this. I was disappointed that my chilli masala (hot) was really sweet and tasted of coconut, along with chapatis that tasted and felt undercooked (doughy texture). Sadly, would not return.

Absolutely gorgeous food. Been in Spain for a week and barely ate a decent meal. First thing I did when I got back was order from gurkhas and my god it was a good call. Mixed masala with a kick and the missus had the pathia without a kick. Made to order and arrived in less than 40 mins. If you haven't tried them yet, you are missing out on the best.

What a hidden gem! Such a nice surprise to find authentic Nepalese food in Paignton. The restaurant looks very unassuming from the outside, but don’t be fooled. We visited at a quiet time, but they were still very busy with takeaways. All the dishes we tried were absolutely delicious. Staff were friendly and attentive, and we even got the chance to thank the chef in person, as he took time to come to our table to chat after we complimented the food to the waiter. Definitely worth a visit. Good value for money as well, with decent portion sizes. We would happily visit again. Highly recommended!
