Gurkha Palace in Shepway

Great food & ghurka beer all enjoyed on our first visit 😀 desserts, teas and coffee too! A very warm and friendly welcome and service throughout our evening. Very busy restaurant but that didn't stop the great service. Definitely recommend and will visit again !

There are many Nepalese restaurants in the area but this is my favourite because the food is excellent and the ingredients of exceptional quality. The owner and staff are welcoming and very nice. We generally have Rogan Josh and Kukhura ko Masu or Sherpa Kukhura both chicken dishes. The vegetables are delicious, we know friends who are vegetarians and vegans and they very much like this restaurant. The food is so fresh and a lot of care goes into the preparation of all the dishes. Momo is the best I have had and the tandoori dishes are delicious too, particularly the mint chicken tikka. Best wine list I have come across in any Asian restaurant including London. This has to be easily in the top five places to eat in the area out of any restaurant.

This placed hasn't changed in years!!!! and it doesn't need to.. can't believe its been 15 years since I've been here, the staff curry was like I remembered back when I was in the service! Loved it

Love this place. Best curries (and not just your usual ones either) in Folkestone and great service too. The Momo dumplings are to die for. Highly recommended.

We were staying in Folkestone for a weekend getaway. This was our first visit to this charming little Nepalese restaurant and we weren’t disappointed. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was sociable with families, couples and friend groups. The food was delicious and plentiful. We will definitely visit again and thoroughly recommend to all.

To be so accomodating to our party of 16 was great, nice place great food, very nicely priced. Thank you. Braborune & Smeeth Table Tennis Club, we will be back around Christmas time!

Fresh, light and delicious. We sampled 4 starters and 3 mains with rice, naan bread and paratha. Also tried Gurkha beer. Excellent food, lovely little place and very good service. Highly recommend.

Not sure about other reviews.but food just OK. Both curries ordered were meant to be different. But tasted the same .poppadoms were shop bought.mango chutney .no chutney just sauce .would not go back .

I’ve visited this restaurant twice since finding it hidden away in the Golden Valley and it’s been thoroughly enjoyable both times. The staff are really friendly and looked after us, the food is absolutely delicious (especially the chefs special set menu you can order for 2 people or more), the environment is relaxed and comfortable. Bathrooms are spotless and it is priced well too. We have also had a takeaway from there which was lovely. I’ll definitely be visiting again soon. Also recommend the Gurkha beer. Very nice.

Visited Gurkha Palace last night 31 October. Have been many times in the past and could not fault it. However, we were very disappointed with the food and service. Food bland but at the beginning of our visit service was adequate. But when our main meal was finished, we were ignored. We were going to have dessert and coffee but we were ignored. There was only one other table occupied so not busy. Waiter spent most of his time on the phone. After about 20/30 minutes we asked for the bill and left. Would not recommend Gurkha Palace.

We met with a large group of friends at the Gurkha Palace restaurant and had a fun evening. When we arrived it was quiet, though soon filled up. Our group was loud and a little boisterous. The servers were fine with this, even to the point of joining in on the fun. We had a very enjoyable evening, made that much better by the great service, varied menu and good food. This was no high end restaurant, but somewhere where you can have good food at a reasonable price in a comfortable environment.

The food was amazing, especially the lamb shank was beautifully cooked. The service was great, the owner was so nice recommending the best dishes to us. Everything was perfect... will definitely go back again.

Been meaning to pop in for months (always pass it on way to work). Midweek so had lots of parking and waiter attention 😊

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE, HORRIBLE FOOD, and EXPENSIVE We recently visited Dover and craved some momos and proper Nepalese food and found this place. We ordered momos, Gurkha beer, lamb rogan josh and tarsi khasi. Tbh, names don’t really matter anyway as they all had the same curry and flavour). The momos were served and they were delicious and we complimented the server about the momos when he came back. The 2 lamb dishes and naans were served and at first, we thought the same thing was served rather than 2 different dishes. We were wrong and right. They were the same dishes, but one was way hotter as they had added raw chilli powder and mixed it in the gravy of the other lamb dish we had. The lamb was stretchy and chewy. I only ate naan on its own and my family was really hungry so we basically binned the food in our stomachs. We decided to provide feedback to the manager/chef/server and told him politely what our thoughts were. As soon as we mentioned that both the dishes had the same gravy and one just had raw chilli powder added on top, he flipped and said “it is our fan favourite, rest is upto you” and walked away. We were so shook with the way he raised his voice that none of us spoke again. The bill came and before we paid, we wanted to ensure that the manager understands that we were upset with the way he wasn’t ready to accept our feedback and instead, shouted at us. While we paid the bill, we kept trying to tell him that his behaviour was rude and he kept saying he wasn’t wrong. This horrendous experience costed us £83. I am sorry Gurkha Palace, your food was bad and the customer service made it even worse. Will not recommend this place to anyone.

We were staying in the Holiday Inn to cross the Channel the following morning and came across this place. Lovely variety of food. Very well cooked. Vegan options and really friendly staff.

Amazing food, really tasty and not oily, focus is on the spices and very generous portions of prawn/chicken/meat in the curries, they don't skimp.

I have now eaten 3 times at the Gurkha Palace and I believe it to be one of the best Asian food restaurants in the South East of Kent. The food is freshly prepared and is simply delicious. The staff are friendly and not overly attentive, allowing you to get on with the business of eating and not constantly being asked how the meal is! Nice decor and very clean. I highly recommend the Gurkha Palace. You will not be disappointed.

What a lovely find.. The staff were friendly our food was wonderful full of flavour’s so tasty. We’re only visiting the area which is a shame as I would always be in there. Food & drinks were cheap so left them a big fat tip which they deserved…. Highly recommend *****

We had a brilliant meal at Gurkha Palace. The menu has a great range of really interesting food, and everything we ate was delicious. Our 12 yearold son says it was so good he would give it a rating of 6 rather than 5 if he could. We would absolutely recommend this restaurant and wish it was closer to where we live!!

The Gurkha Palace never fail to impress me! I’ve been eating at the Gurkha Palace since a young child and I’ve never left feeling dissatisfied - they’re always very consistent. Amazing management and amazing food, what else could you ask for?

Wonderful food, well cooked and very tasty. The portion sizes are more than ample. The service is second to none, polite and friendly. The venue is always very clean and it has just been decorated as well. A must restaurant to be at.

Originally booked a table but the silly little group of shrieking girls that should have gone to a chicken shop and a dance around their handbags made it feel like we were about to endure an hour and a half of an SAS endurance test. Opted for a takeaway and was blown away with the quality and taste. Absolutely nothing but admiration for the service, value and quality of food. Been there a few times before but it was sublime.....just a shame we had to have a takeaway on this occasion. Suppose customers can't be chosen.

It was our first time at the restaurant. We were a bit dubious about the area at first. But once we walked through the doors. The atmosphere was lovely, a nice chilled friendly environment. We sat at the window. The staff were so kind and friendly and very attentive. The wine was very reasonable and nice. Our daughter loved the menu. She’s 12. But they catered for her needs: the food was sooo good. The best fresh curries it was absolutely amaZing. The place was very busy early in the evening and people trickled through over over our two and half stay. We can’t wait to come again. We would highly recommend this place it’s worth every mouthful

My partner and I had a wonderful meal here this evening - the food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. A calm yet warm atmosphere where we could chat and eat to our heart's content - considering it was a Thursday evening, we were surprised by how popular it was. Clearly credit to the staff and the food. Once we had ordered, our meal didn't take long to arrive but you could tell it had been freshly prepared. Sadly, we don't live locally but if we ever visit Folkestone again I will definitely be returning! Highky recommend. Thank you.

Good portion sizes and prompt friendly service. I recommend the tandoori prawns - really sweet, beautifully presented and generous sized prawns. Family friendly - staff were happy to make tweaks to dishes for personal preferences/children. Reasonably priced. I booked online through the website and was made to feel very welcome. Parking immediately outside. In a fairly residential area this is a great restaurant serving interesting and good quality Nepalese food.

This restaurant used to be one of the best. However complete lack of staff. The past owners made you feel special. From greeting you on arrival. Service was impeccable, sadly this as all gone. Food was good. Its a shame its just gone downhill.

Yet again we had a fantastic quality meal delivered to us at the Holiday Inn express in Folkestone! The delivery driver was so professional and friendly! Always order from these guys when we stay overnight in Folkestone when we travel over to Belgium to visit family. Give them a try, yum-yum! 😋

We met with friends who booked the restaurant and wow what an amazing place. The owner was so welcoming and the smell of the food when you walk in was incredible. You know how some Indian type restaurants taste like they mix their spices with a spade and sledgehammer ........ This place is the polar opposite and I suspect they use tweezers to create such delicate tastes. 100% recommend - a flawless experience!

Meal was so spicy I was sweating. Was advertised as not spicy. I had to take the next day off work as I was unwell. I don't usually have a problem with spicy food but this was extreme. There were a few of us but the staff wouldn't split bill, which was surprising and mildly inconvenient.

Really poor service😡.... waiting for last 20 minutes for food and been told will take 25 more minutes. Also the guy told me in London you have to wait for an hours. How can you talk to customers in unprofessional manner. No shame for delay in service and but like to give excuses.

We have eaten here many times. We've had some really nice food. Working through the menu, had some very tasty meals but others we didn't like that much, but that is due to our personal tastes. The chef manages to use spices without being so hot it ruins the experience. Our selection tonight was Mish Mas Masu for myself which was excellent and flavorful. My wife had Rato Kukhure which she enjoyed but felt it was a little on the sweet side. Our side dish was Mis Mas Tarkari this was a dish I would definitely order again, lovely use of spices and fresh vegetables. Other Asian restaurants claim to use fresh vegetables but use frozen. This wasn't and it worked very well. We highly recommend this establishment.

Best Nepolese food in Folkestone and surrounding areas. We have tried many other takeaways similar to this one, but none of them even come close to the quality of the food in Gurkha Palace. The food tastes fresh and the staff have great customer service over phone and in person. Couldn’t recommend them anymore, so if your looking for a great takeaway this is the one to go for. Nicole
