I have been in Gorkha 1816 and I have ordered the pot-roasted lamb shank which was tender and flavorful, perfectly slow-cooked to melt-in-your-mouth goodness. Then the creamy risotto rice complements it beautifully with its rich, velvety texture. And the fresh, sweet honeydew melon adds a refreshing contrast, balancing the dish perfectly. A delicious and well-balanced meal!

Can’t complain about the food, but the service was an absolute disgrace. We arrived at 7:20 and didn’t receive our main course until 9:05, despite asking several times. At one point we could even hear shouting in the kitchen. The waiter, who appeared not to be all there, didn’t even bother to bring the bill when I asked. After 20 minutes I went up to the bar where he ignored me and they only spoke to me when I threatened to leave. First and last time in this restaurant. I wouldn’t recommend it at all with terrible service like that.

A spur of the moment decision to go out to eat and really pleased we decided to, especially as this was our first visit. The food is fantastic and everything is fresh and great quality, plus you get a lot of it. I had a lamb mint kebab as a starter that was worth the wait, then for mains my wife had the butter chicken and I had the Nepalese chowmein. The butter chicken looked fantastic and my wife certainly enjoyed it. The chowmein I had was really too spicy for me (my mistake entirely) but rather than letting me sit there staring at a bowl of food I just couldn't eat, the owners made sure that when I left I was carrying out a non-spicy version free of charge. Like I say, the fault was 100% on me for not checking beforehand, but that was a really kind gesture. There's nothing here to criticise - the staff are just the nicest people, there's good car parking, the restaurant is very fresh and absolutely spotless, and the food is amongst the best I've eaten in the local area. We'll definitely be back and will be bringing the family next time.

Nice atmosphere, exceptional food and really friendly service. The butter chicken is to die for. Naan melts in the mouth. Masala chips were fantastic. The momo dumplings and prawn piri starters were bursting with flavour. Only downside was it was it was a challenge to get the attention of the lad taking orders so we could ask for more drinks. Other than that, perfect.

Gurkha is one of my favourite restaurants in the UK. The Chef here has outstanding experience behind him having worked internationally and has perfected his recipes. He also meets customers himself and is a joy to be around. As a vegetarian, the dishes here are very tasty and there is plenty to eat. You are spoilt for choice! The Chilli Paneer is an absolute must if you are eating here.

The food was absolutely delicious and authentic. We travelled from Stafford to taste the real taste of Nepali food which didn't disappoint us. Friendly staff and good ambience. Will definitely go again.

Had a great meal on recommendation from some friends. The thali and main meals were all great, although the noodles were a little too spicy for us, the head chef came to say hello, and when we mentioned it to him he said he would have made us a fresh milder one, excellent service. !

Blown away by the food. Nepali chow mien was awesome. Hot food, fresh ingredients and quality taste. Only comment was the time taken for food preparation.

This is the best Nepal restaurant ever. My second time comes, and the food quality is good as always. I went to dishoom last week, some similar dish, but just cannot compete with this one. Highly recommend. Also the service is very very good, environment very fine dining as well.

The Indian and Nepali cuisine was truly exceptional, and every dish was a delight to the palate. What impressed me the most was the outstanding customer service. Your staff went above and beyond to ensure that my dining experience was perfect. I look forward to visiting again soon!

Fabulous food, lovely staff and great choices. Really can't say much more than that. We will definitely return. It serves the best Thali I've ever had. My only criticism is you can't get 1 or 2 poppadoms, they come as a basket and are very expensive. But other than that a wonderful find.

We were recommended to try here and we were far from disappointed! Service was amazing by such lovely staff. You do wait on the food but this is because it's fresh and so worth the wait. This is the first time we visited here and we thoroughly enjoyed it! All the dishes were flavourful and fresh. They cook everything fresh so it takes a little longer, but it is worth the wait! Their service was very well thought out too. We would definitely come back when we are back in Walsall👍

Very impressed. Just dropped in on the off chance on a Saturday evening. They were very friendly and the food was excellent. Even though they had explained there might be a delay in food arriving it didn't feel as if we waiting any longer than I have at any other restaurant. Would recommend.

Best food from an Indian restaurant I have had in a very long time. All of it was gorgeous and cooked to perfection! The service was lovely and everyone was so kind and welcoming. I personally had the Garlic Chilli Chicken to start, which was absolutely delicious. My main was a ‘Chicken Madras’ which I had with ‘Mushroom Pilau’, a ‘Garlic Naan’ and ‘Masala Chips’. I don’t have a single fault with any of the food, it was all beautiful. It’s a bit of a distance to travel for me, as I live in Wolverhampton but it is definitely worth it! I’ll be returning! My only very slight note is that it got a little bit cold in the restaurant, but it was December when we visited. Thank you for having us!

Gem of a place, super tasty food, very fresh and full of flavour!

Food was tremendous. Highly recommend the Khatmandu lamb and it was terrific! Chef/owner came out to speak to us for 15 minutes after and he is a genuine great guy with a great back story!

I popped into Gurkha 1816 as I had to go to Ikea and was craving momos. I was not disappointed. The flavours were authentic and the staff lovely. Thoroughly recommend.

i loved the food here! i had the butter chicken my usual, and this was the best butter chicken i had ever had! highly recommend for the butter chicken lovers like me. the service was good and they were very polite. the atmosphere was very good as well!

What an absolutely wonderful restaurant! We were warmly welcomed despite arriving on a busy Friday night without a booking. Staff found space for us and were very friendly in doing so. We ordered two starters and two mains plus a naan between two of us and all were delicious. Beautifully spiced, flavoursome food and presented well. Portions were very generous - we struggled to finish what we'd ordered but managed in the end as it was too delicious to leave! We aren't local - just passing by on a long journey - but if we are in the area again we will definitely be returning. Thank you all!

Gurkha is one of the best restaurant . I started to come here in the 2022. Since then i never been anywhere. Food so tasty that i never get bored . I celebrate all my fuctions here and I recommended this restaurant more that 15 families. Food quality , taste, atmosphere, service and staff mind blowing. Now My all friends coming here for their parties.

This place is amazing- beautiful food and lovely service. I wish I lived in the area so I could eat here regularly. However if you’re passing through Birmingham, it’s a great place to stop as it’s just off the m6. We had the butter chicken and the khasi ko jhol- both were phenomenal.

WOW! We had not been here for sometime (before lock down), when it was run by the wonderful Cchetra. Things change but not the ambience and quality of this restaurant. Went on a Friday night for my wifes birthday and were warmly greeted by Jay the new owner/manager. She and her husband who is one of the chefs here, made us feel so welcome and valued. We had the Gurka Platter, Chicken Bhuna with rice. Chilli Chicken and chips with Keema Nan. All superb. 10/10. Nice touch as they decorated our table and sang Happy Birthday to my wife at the end of the night with a slice of cake and ice cream and candle. We can highly recommend this wonderful restaurant and its staff, the waiters and waitresses are lovely.

This is a wonderful place to eat, the food is exceptional and the staff are attentive to every need. Its a family run business, which shows in every detail. The chef has a lovely sense of joy and came to check we had enjoyed our meal. Its difficult to recommend a restaurant because we all have different tastes, but we have.no hesitation recommending Gurkha 1812.

Been before but this time we booked for 6pm arrived early no one else in the place ordered food about 6.10pm food hadn't arrived by 7pm so we complained. Yet a birthday party who came in after us got their food well before. Our food came at 7.20pm food was fine but service gets a 1

Which does mean sometimes you may have to wait for your meal. But it is worth it for sure. The food is very fresh and tasty and you can tell the quality of the meats and fish We love the spice level at this restaurant but it can be toned up and down to your taste.
