No atmosphere at all. My wife had a fly in her meal. Put us right off. Front doors left open, so flies were coming in. Service poor.

Truly shocking this place has somehow gotten 5 star reviews unless people really have that low of standards. We sat down and the plate settings were on the table (supposed to be clean), one plate was dirty with oil on it and a piece of hair. The food came out, chicken tikki masala’s, never in my life have I had this version of tikki masala. Was just extremely bright red candy looking sauce and chunks of chicken. It was very sweet. The chicken was decent. The pilau rice was bland. The garlic naan was alright but not good quality butter or garlic flavour. The server was a young guy who was actually very sweet and lovely. He did a good job and was very friendly. All the staff are very young. The owner was there and was very friendly with the locals. The chairs were dirty looking. Lots of flies in all over our food as we ate because the front door stays open, very gross and very annoying. We had to cover the naan with napkins. Cash only which was obvious from the signs posted. Our receipt was just our order written on scrap paper, no actual receipt. Feels very shoddy. Would not recommend unless many of the above things improve. It could be awesome if it was cared for. Good luck to the kids working there and all the best

Travelled 4.5 hours to get to Stillington. Arrived at 1900 and decided to have dinner. The poppadoms were stale (at least a day old). Tarka Dhal needed garlic as had zero flavour Cauliflower bajhi had spice on it that I could visually see but tasted of nothing. I consider that a magic trick of great skill. The owner made me what he called a 'vindaloo special'...It was special alright. No heat, flavours were weak. The rice had so much oil in the bottom of the bowl, I'm sure I could have strained it and used it to fire up a local tractor. The best thing about this place was the drunken patron at the bar who was hilarious entertainment. The owner apologised about the drunkard but really he should have been apologising about the food. Save your money and get fish and chips down the road or go to the pubs across the street.

This was by far the worst curry I have ever eaten! I cant believe the positive reviews on here are talking about the same place! Knew we were off to a bad start when the poppadoms weren't even cooked fresh! The dishes had no flavour at all... even the ones that we were told would be 'very spicy' literally tasted of nothing. Dreadful atmosphere... drunks at the bar, empty restaurant and staff pottering about cleaning. The only reason we stayed was because we were here on holiday, and having arrived late in the evening there was nowhere else to go. Seriously dreadful!!!!

Unfortunately and foremost this establishment requires cash only, when telephone booking we were not told in advance so when we arrived sat down then saw the notice on the wall we got up to leave to get cash, the owner came out after us and said we could pay cash the next day. My partner enjoyed his meal I did not enjoy my starter of king prawn butterfly dry and bland with a bit of shredded ice berg lettuce and 2 cherry tomatoes cut in half. The waitress was not friendly, no smiles or excuse me. No Atmosphere in the place, not a busy establishment on Saturday night probably due to cash only.

Went out for a date night and thought we would try somewhere different and new as we both love Indian. The food was ok - however the service was not good to say the least. We were fully aware that it was a casual venue. However, the two servers were unattentive and inexperienced, and the main woman who took our order was also the same. During the meal we were asked how our meal was, but this was only said by who we believed to be the chef. After the meal we were never asked if we would like another drink or desserts, and when our bill came that was when they mentioned it was cash only. We were not told on booking, or made aware prior to sitting down that it was cash only and no card payment available. I had to travel to Easingwold to go to an ATM to get cash. We suggest that they make customers aware about this upon booking a table or entering the premises. Sadly to say that it did put more of a dampener on the evening as I had to leave my partner in the venue to get the cash.

Korma was luke warm and tasted like chicken soup with a bit of coconut added. Korma is normally loved my my kids but both wouldn't eat. Lamb methi gousht was so bland it was like lamb stew. Spotted this attractive looking restaurant when on business in Probus and decided to give it a go despite poor recent reviews. I should have believed the reviewers. The chef obviously knows what he is doing with excellent use of interesting spices, brilliant rice and respectable portion sizes. But the penny pinching attitude was rife. The pappadom plus chutneys starter was more varied and tasty than most, but decidedly niggling to be charged for each of the 7 chutneys that I sampled - great if you are a party of 4, but not for solo. The meat in the main course was small pieces and a mixture of tender and tough. I couldn't help wondering if the tough bits were horse rather than the alleged lamb. Being on a dry January regime I ordered Coke - soft drinks are always profitable for restaurants so the £2 price tag was not unexpected, but a miserable 200ml size bottle is an insult - that makes Coke £10 a litre - worse than Ryanair!

We were very disappointed in the Gulshan restaurant this time around, we had been there a couple of years ago, and were impressed with the atmosphere and the food but sadly not this time, we took a friend who was visiting from up country and to say we were embarrassed by our choice of restaurant is an understatement. we arrived at 7pm there were no other customers, we wanted to have a drink in the reception area before going through to our table, but after a few minutes of the waiter hovering over us we gave in and were led to our table, we had hardly looked at the menu before the waiter was back and although he was smiley and patient enough we felt rushed and under pressure to order quickly, we wanted the food served in a sharing way so we could try a little of everything, but the starters came already plated up, although to be fair we were given spare plates to use when we asked for them, all the time we were eating our starters, the waiter paced up and down between the tables and the minute we laid down our cutlery the plates were whisked away at break neck speed, we asked for a little break before the mains were served. again the waiter was very polite about the request but obviously not that happy, he came back after a few minutes and said were we ready now, we asked for just a bit more time, he walked away but just a few minutes later the food was served, take it or leave it style. (at this point we were still the only people in the restaurant apart from staff) the food was to a reasonable standard though it got cold very quickly, we were disappointed that the table top food warmers that used to be a standard practise in Indain restaruants were not used on this occassion. As there were no other customers the atmosphere was somewhat subdued and the loud sitar music did nothing to help things along, at the end of the meal we ordered 2 expresso coffee's and an Americano but this seem to be beyond the waiters comprehension and after some haggling we managed to get to Liqueur coffees and and ordinary white coffee. after a souless evening we were back in the car and heading for home by 8.55pm during the whole time we were at the restaurant there were no customers besides ourselves, apart from a couple of takeaway clients, sadly it ended up being a very dismal and disappointing evening for ourselves and our guest, we will not be returning anytime soon.

Had been going to Gulshan regularly until a couple of years ago when we moved out of that area. Was coming down the A30 recently and thought we'd try a takeaway even though I had heard things had changed a bit. Well, all I can say is that this is still the best Indian restaurant I know of. Gulshan somehow avoids the sloppy common flavours that of which most Indian restaurant meals consist. The dishes are packed with flavour and always seem freshly cooked. In simple terms this is simply a great Indian restaurant. My wife and I are in agreement that this our favourite restaurant (of any type). Can't say more really!

We'd booked a table for five but this seemed to come as a surprise to the staff. We dealt with putting another chair on the end of a table for four but had to ask for cutlery etc as the waiter did not seem to pre-empt this need! However, the food was good and tasty, with substantial portions (one rice between two more than adequate). Once we had finished we sat for some while awaiting suggestion of coffee/pudding but no-one came near us so in the end we asked for the bill, paid and went. Nice food, indifferent customer service, which is rather a shame.

After this reopened (only ate he once before it closed and it was excellent) i have eaten here twice, once in and one takeaway. I didn't want to post anything here until i was happy that my experience was not a one off. As far as in concerned, this place is on the brink and that a real shame and all of the things that need solving are not difficult. You are a restaurant, the quality of the food must come first. This is going to be difficult as out of season you are going to be quiet and wont want to waste produce. From talking to others people this place was very very busy and popular in the past, there is no reason why it couldn't be again, but you only have one chance to do it properly. On both occasions i have orders a curry and asked for tika chicken, on both occasions i have received normal chicken dishes and the chicken has clearly been frozen (more than once?) as its very tough. The spices lack depth but i didn't feel the food was over salted as other reviewers noted, so i hope by this it means that you are listening.Your prices are not representative of your produce, i expect top quality ingredients if you are charging top prices. You have fresh flowers on the table, great, how about fresh produce in your dishes. The service from the waiter was odd, clearly not used to working in a restaurant environment, and that's not a problem, but as you were uncomfortable, it made us uncomfortable. Your clearly a nice guy, and i hope it works out but you need to relax and be confidant. I will go back and if things have improved will eat here or get a take away every week, if i have another very average meal with tough meat i will be driving to Truro or making it myself. PLEASE get it right.

We were sorry to find that we were the only people eating in the restaurant although several called in for takeaways. I know the restaurant closed for some time and re-opened earlier this year so perhaps folks aren't aware it is back in business. It's certainly been a favourite restaurant for many years for our family and we were very sorry when it closed but very happy to hear it had re-opened. Great to find a good Indian restaurant in a Cornish village. Having eaten here many times and had numerous takeaways the food is very good on the whole. Dishes are a cut above most Indian restaurants and service is friendly and efficient. All the usual favourites are on the menu plus some interesting specials several cooked with eggs. It is a bit more expensive than some Indian restaurants especially those you would find in larger cities, but you get a lot of lamb/chicken/prawn/veg for your hard earned. The restaurant was closed for a time but re-opened recently with the menu and good standard remaining the same – the décor also had a refurb and it’s now pretty smart inside. Give it a go!

As we live in a village adjacent to Probus, 4 of us decided to pop up for a special meal to celebrate with a friend who has recently left the area. We were welcomed by Lianne and Nathan and sat down on the very nice pre-eating suite to a drink and a chat. The restaurant was rather busy but nevertheless the staff were attentive and took our order reasonably quickly. Alan the chef popped in and out of the kitchen and greeted us as well but I was rather surprised to see that he appeared to be alone in the kitchen. The Gulshan is a modern, light and fresh restaurant so we enjoyed being led to our table to continue our deliberations. Poppadoms and a great selection dips arrived and we tucked in with zeal. All well so far. After 45 mins or so starters arrived some great some not so great (A Prawn Problem was discovered, safe but rather chewy)This course over we awaited our main courses, another round of drinks, and it slowly became obvious that 'Chef' was under pressure. Unfortunately, by the time mains arrived almost a hour had passed and the wait had deleted our taste buds somewhat. To be frank the mains were poor and appeared somewhat sticky and stewed. Alas also the Prawn problem, although identified at the previous round had not been solved or re-visited.We expressed our disappointment and Chef kindly offered a round of drinks as a compensatory gesture.I have eaten at The Gulshan a number of times and have always found the food to be 1st class, if a little different to the run of the mill Indian Restaurant meals. PLEASE Alan take this as a friendly warning :- You have a lovely restaurant, with good amenities and good attentive staff but you need to beef up the kitchen performance. Speed and quality food are of Primary importance in any dining experience and on this occasion you failed.I will return but if others experience this same disappointment I doubt they will. Quality Indian Cuisine must deliver 'what it says on the tin' or the business will suffer.

It's not often that you come across a fine dining Indian restaurant. It's even more of a surprise in the middle of a tiny Cornish village, but that is just what Gulshan is. We have eaten there on our last two trips to that part of Cornwall and have not been disappointed. Even my brother, a food discerner if ever there was one, was delighted with it. Everything we've tried has been excellent and there are some unusual dishes to try. This is not your average "Indian". Go and try for yourself!

I have been to the gulshan many times and have always come away extremely satisfied. The quality of food is second to none! The staff and owner are all extremely friendly and welcoming.. They offer to take your coat upon arrival, and then you can sit down in comfy leather seats whilst they prepare your drinks order and decide what food you want to order... Which is great and avoids awkward pre-meal conversations at the table! The one and only annoyance is the 10% service charge that they automatically charge to your bill... Which is frustrating as I do like to tip anyway which is more rewarding for myself and the staff as they then know you have appreciated the service and I can decide byhow much.... Fortunately the service has always been superb, however I would hate to have to request the service charge to be removed...All in all though...for a great Indian restaurant within forty odd miles... The gulshan is a must!

I have had take aways and meals in the restaurant, and the quality of the food is always the same hig standard. The owner is very welcoming, and will offer guidance for those who are less confident with an Indian meal, or who have particular food allergies or intolerences. This approach means that everyone should feel confident that they will get meal to their taste. The building is rather uninspiring but the warm welcome, attention to detail, and the quality of the food make the Gulshan somewhere to try.

Awful, long time customers. They missed items off our order (not for the first time) promised to fix next time. The fix - 2 “free” poppadoms Avoid - we certainly will

Went here and reviewed last year, I was in the area again so thought I would give it another go. Went on a Sunday evening so the place was fairly quiet. These premises are unusual in that they have an alcohol license but you can bring your own alcohol and they dont apply a corkage charge. As per last year no restaurant price board displayed in the window, there is a window box with leaflets but these are the takeaway prices so make sure you understand what you are meant to be paying. Started with a popadom, like lot of places they are now charging per dip in the chutney tray which means with two popadoms and four chutney tray dips you are going to pay over £5. A bit dear I feel so I just chose one dip ( mango chutney). Main course was a chicken shashlick which came out on a hot sizzler and was very good. With this I had a sag bhaji and a garlic naan. Plenty for me so I suggest you skip a starter unless you are very very hungry ! Bill came to £23 but then the bill states " Discretionary Gratuity 10% " making it up to £25. No mention of this service charge in the window or on the menu ( so like my visit last year ). I suppose most people are too embarased to query this new charge and just pay but I would say again to make sure you understand what it is you are meant to be paying for. Premises looks smart inside. You have to go up a steep staircase to the first floor to get to the toilets so this may not be too good for those with mobility issues. The public toilets in Helston are some way down the main street and close early so this may be a consideration for you if you cant manage the restaurants toilets. I still recommend this place but watch your prices. On the other hand you dont have to pay their fancy alcohol prices and they dont charge a corkage charge on the bottle that you bring in yourself.
