Guildhall Market Cafe in Bath and North East Somerset

I’ve visited this cafe a few times while in Bath and today it was a disappointment. The girl who served me didn’t make eye contact, no thank you, no please and didn’t smile once. Her nails nearly put me off eating there as way too long for serving food. I ordered the breakfast which arrived very quickly but the tomatoes were stone cold and looked like the can had just been emptied onto the plate. The girl who brought it out didn’t say a word again no thank or please or a smile. The young man just blanked people when asked a question. It’s a shame as it used to be a really friendly cafe

Drinks were okay but the one females who served us needs to smile, no please no thank you and we won’t go there again. Handling food should not be done with clearly false painted nails

We were expecting a decent greasy spoon type cafe but no. 2x beans on toast with 2x sausage and coffee robbed us of nearly £20 and the coffee was so disgusting we left it and went to the Italian across the street.

Sadly, not my cup of tea at all. I've tried it twice now and, on both occasions, had a very poor, meagre bacon sandwich with floppy white stringy fat [does ANYONE like their bacon cooked like that?] I find it a thoroughly unpleasant thing and most people I know have the same opinion. If it's white, fatty and floppy either cut it off or even better...COOK IT, but don't flap it between bread and consider your job well done and a decent bacon sarnie served. I went back for a second go because I REALLY wanted it to be good and to give benefit of the doubt. Second one was even worse than the first though. Maybe I've just been unlucky and caught them on a bad day, although on the second occasion it was quite quiet, so they weren’t ‘up against it’ time or attention wise. Personally, I won’t go back for a third chance but give it a go yourself. I really hate leaving negative reviews, but I can still relive the gaggy feeling of the boinging white floppy bouncy chewy fat in my mouth. But it usually seems generally busy and popular with a lot of people, so as I say, not 'my' cuppa T but that's just me.

Thought I would give the cafe ago Bath is very expensive for a meal but I thought the market cafe was expensive cheese on toast is at least £5 that's without a coffee or tea I had Cod fish fingers with chips and peas there not mushy the other bland frozen peas the chips were them horrible frozen chips that cook on the outside raw in the middle the guys attitude on the counter is awful gets some manners!!

Nice hot breakfast 🍳 with nice hot strong tea proper little cafe . We all enjoyed our food including the kids. Thank you 😊 .

I had booked a posh restaurant for lunch but canceled when I came across this gem. I cannot resist a greasy spoon with formica topped tables. Burgers were tasty and cheap, the menu was extensive with lots of typical cafe meals. Friendly staff , I will visit again.

No es realmente lo que esperábamos. Este lugar tiene un menú extenso y tenía muchos lugareños, lo que siempre es un comienzo prometedor, pero a pesar del excelente entorno covid y el servicio rápido, los sándwiches que pedimos eran insípidos, poco cocidos y muy básicos.Me encanta un sándwich o fritura barata y alegre, ¡pero el sándwich de tocino y huevo que pedí estaba lleno de grasa! ¡Y del tipo empapado y gomoso, tampoco estoy seguro de que el huevo esté cocido ya que la película transparente se deslizó por la parte superior! ! !El huevo, la salchicha y el tocino de mi novio (¡se me olvidó el huevo primero!) Era exactamente lo mismo. Tocino muy mal cocido o muy grasoso.¡No es un buen comienzo para el día de verdad!

Estuve en Bath unos días. Después de comer tanto en Weatherspoons como en la tienda de pescado y patatas fritas de Bath, estaba tan feliz de comer algo decente en este pequeño café del mercado. La comida estaba muy caliente. ¡Es de buen tamaño y muy sabroso y ciertamente no es demasiado caro! Su personal fue amable. El café estaba socialmente distanciado y muy limpio. Definitivamente volveré a usar este lugar la próxima vez que esté en Bath. Aparte de este café, encontré que la mayoría de la comida que tenía en la ciudad era de mala calidad y demasiado cara.

Me encantó ver a Emily y disfruté del mejor sándwich de tocino y queso de masa fermentada. . , mi primera desde el encierro.Emily ha seguido adelante, encontrando increíbles formas creativas de hacer bagels para llevar y muchas otras delicias y un viernes especial. . . A lovely old fashioned market with a cafe stall in the middle. Good coffee with a few cakes for a treat. Worth a stop.

Spending a day at the Guildhall Records Office which shuts for lunch, we needed a quick bite. The Market cafe is fairly basic (no loos in the building, unusual for a market building) but the food, which is advertised as freshly made, came quickly & looked good.Himself had chilli & rice, which was an excellent plateful; I had a baked potato & tuna mayo, which came with a salad side but no dressing.. We could see others tucking into egg & chips, burgers, sandwiches.Fairly cheap (mains about £6). Service was cheerful.

Based on all the great reviews we tried breakfast here. It was just great, freshly prepared home cooked food at a reasonable price.You need to be early though. The cafe seating space is tiny and well supported by the locals - a sure sign of a good deal. I just wish we were staying in Bath longer so I could try out their version of a few of my old favourites I saw on their blackboard menu.

Tucked away in a corner of the bath guildhall indoor market is the market cafeYou could say it’s cheap and cheerful,well it certainly was for us... only problem is It’s hard getting somewhere to sit at busy times...this just proves how popular The cafe is,from all day breakfast to jacket spuds.you name it they’ll serve it. and a good old cuppa you just can’t go wrong.

The Guildhall Market has quite a few unique stalls, selling food as well as books and other goods well worth a look in.

I remember my mother in law telling me the best place to eat in Bath is the Market Cafe and she is not wrong. Simple food but beautifully cooked and not at the stupid prices you usually find in Bath. Absolutelly spotless and food delicious.

I got the fried cod, chips, and peas. All very good! The workers were friendly and patient, and the price was right.

A perfect place for drinking coffee or tea and do some special shopping when you are in Bath. There are some special shops inside.

Creo que deberías ir allí y tener un montón porque es tan bueno y barato es el mercado y la señora que trabaja allí es realmente agradable y los asientos son muy cómodos, el café también es increíble y la comida es increíble

Lo que un pequeño y pintoresco puesto de Jem en el mercado oculta una menta variada de productos. La cafetería del mercado era. Estupendo establecimiento de estilo antiguo. Comida sencilla y sencilla, bien cocinada y con excelente té y café, todo muy limpio. Precio muy razonable Estupendo acogedor.

Super leckeres, frisch zubereitetes Essen. Fehlende Zutaten sind einfach von den Nachbarhändlern frisch geholt und zubereitet worden!

Lovely clean market, the food at this cafe is excellent and terrific value for money. Its not posh, its proper market table and chairs, but the coffee was fantastic as was the cheese and ham toast. They do all day breakfast here for £7.00

Fuimos a desayunar y no nos decepcionó. El gran freír fue un ganador y absolutamente delicioso. El personal era amable y la comida llegó bastante rápido. Una joya total escondida en Guildhall y vale la pena visitarla si visita el mercado. Incluso sólo una taza para apoyar a una pequeña empresa. Incluso atienden muy bien para vegetarianos!

Bij toeval liepen we hier tegenaan. Binnen bieden diverse kleine ondernemers hun koopwaar aan. Er is werkelijk van alles verkrijgbaar, niet echt marktprijzen. Zeker de moeite waard om eens binnen te wandelen.

Aquí encontrará todo tipo de productos locales, desde carnes, tés, quesos y textiles. Mi favorito era el puesto de queso. Conozca a Stephan y pida probar el queso Bath Blue y la esposa de Bath (también el queso trufa). ¡Son tan encantadores y está claro que él ama su queso! ¡Él te dirá lo que es realmente especial!

Beautiful authentic market in the Centre of Bath. Full of independent sellers. Leather goods, used books, Cafe, Coffee, Deli, Souvenirs, etc, etc.

We had lunch at the cafe - very good soup of the day (Leek and Potato) served with bread, reasonably priced drinks, sandwiches, and breakfast served all day. The corned beef sandwich was totally different from what we have in the USA, not the typical thin cut deli meat on rye bread that we are used to. The market was rather interesting, with everything from a hardware store to a candy shop to clothing and cheese.

Market is always amazing and unique. However since this cafe has changed from "Time Out" I find it really boring. The service is still good and the food is still good it's just noticeably changed and I preferred the colourful and unique cafe.

From cheap (but actually very good) jewellery to 2nd had books and hardware. This is a great place to browse and buy.

I love this little market. The cheese stall is particularly good. The cafe is a basic place but what wonderful food and reasonable prices. I had the bacon sandwich on granary bread and it was the best I have eaten and only £3.85, bargain. Will try something else when shopping in Bath next.

We popped in here for breakfast as it was somewhere different from the nearby chain shops. Service was quick and friendly and the menu was standard cafe fare with good prices. The food was well presented and decent portions.

This is the first time I have eaten in the cafe at the Guildhall Market - I lived in Bath for many years and really should have discovered this ages ago!

I was looking forward to having a coffee here, as we had enjoyed browsing the market the day before, but not only was it expensive but the coffee was very strong and the attendant wasn't very helpful or cheerful, I would rather have gone elsewhere, the market is worth a visit though.

You will allways find many interesting locals here, as well as tourists, The menu is as one would expect, but with fresh produce, think I had the cheese toastie, and was not dissapointed, so also stayed for another dish, there is a great atmosphere here, it is a nice place to stop for a mid day snack or more, Hope this has been of some help for you...

This is a cafe serving English cafe food - chips with everything. It isn't glamorous and it can be quite draughty sitting there on a cold day. However, it does it what it does really well - it gets home cooked, hot food out really quickly and efficiently for a really good price. The coffee is instant but made with lots of hot steamed milk so is delicious. Personally, I like their chicken curry with rice and jacket potato with chilli. The staff are pleasant and very hard working. As a local, this is my usual choice for a Saturday lunch in Bath whilst shopping.

A lovely old market with interesting stalls,the monument "Pay on the nail "is in here,it is here where the phrase originated.There is also a coloured model Pig almost like sized.

we had lunch at the market as we were shopping. The prices are good and the food is nice, I had a very nice soup and my husband had a steak and kidney pie. We came back on the next day for breakfast and it was definitely good value for money.

Visited between Christmasand New year , appeared to be stuck in time. Atmosphere was lacking and the store holders uninterested. Not what we had expected. The best stall we noticed was the leather belts that sew made to measure the gentleman engaged in conversation and wax interesting. Not worth the visit.

Lovely little market cafe serving great hot coffee and crispy bacon bagels at a very fair price. Best little cafe we found in Bath and nice friendly staff as well, will be again for sure.

There is a window in an amazingly tiny kitchen to take your order. The fare is solidly British and yes, there are chips with everything.

Nice little indoors market to walk around. It is very tiny and has more material things to buy than food. There was a paperback book area which caught my eye and occupied most of my time! I didn't buy anything but it was very organized and neat to see!

I enjoyed seeing the goods for sale and got a picture of myself with the queen (in cardboard). There were a variety of shops from hardware to food to purses.

If you are in the Bath Market Hall and fancy a cuppa and a snack this is as good a place as any and it keeps you in the great hussle and bussle atmosphere of the market.

Called in here today as it had a large menu and actually had a couple of tables free. A lot to choose from, although not as cheap as you might think for a market cafe. Still, the food was well cooked and tasty, and arrived quickly. The other clientele weren't the most classy bunch and it seemed to attract a few local (harmless) dropouts, but all in all don't regret eating there.

It's basic but appropriately priced especially as Bath is mostly quite pricey compared to many other areas. Basic menu cooked fresh located in the Guildhall Market so browse and eat undercover.

Popped into this little, "let's call it rustic" cafe, the food was freshly cooked and nicely done, not expensive, service was good, quick, the young ladies pleasant, the cafe clean, if you could take away unruly children and a loud man on his mobile, it would have been perfect, but hey, you can't have everything.

Went to Bath Christmas Market. Rather spread out in comparison with Birmingham but very interesting. Take your walking shoes as you will be walking outside, in the weather on roads and cobblestones. Lots of places to eat and grab a hot drink and a vast range of goods on sale from the log cabins.Went by train to Bath Spa, much easier, quicker and cheaper than driving. The market is well sign posted from the station and the tourist office provided a little map.

This bar is pretty "basic", is located within the market of Bath and prepare many dishes very good and excellent rates. A meal not to be missed in expensive Bath.

Visited for a very nice hot meal we had lasagna and steak and Kidney pie.Based in the guildhall market it seems to be full of locals enjoying home cooked meals. The prices are better than the average prices of bath £6.80 for a meal you can't go wrong.The staff are very helpful and willing to helpIt is great to find a hidden gem like this

Great place to grab a tea or coffee from the variety when you here at the Guildhall market…. If you like any there is great tea selling shop nearby to buy from!!

Really excellent value, massive range of dishes to choose from, freshly cooked to order and really good portions. definitely would recommend a visit.

In the center of the Guildhall Market, this little old school cafe is perfect for breakfast. Good service, no frills, plentiful fry up! Piping hot and great value. A veggie breakfast can be a bit hit and miss, but this hits the spot!

Went here on Saturday afternoon for a quick bite to eat before my daughter went off to work, the menu was varied some of it a little more expensive than you would expect to pay in a cafe but then it was BATH, the food took 20 minutes to arrive,was piping hot and was plenty. Would say it's ok and would return if I am stuck for somewhere to eat but wouldn't make it my first choice.

We arrived at this little American style diner after not being able to get seated at other cafés, and we loved it. We sat at the bar where we were served by a polite waitress. We ordered typical American style snacks and drinks.The strawberry milkshake was made with real strawberries, ice cream and milk.... YUM. Crepe style pancakes covered in Nutella and another in lemon and sugar... YUM. A hot chocolate with mile high whipped cream :) all coming in at less than £10 (you wouldn't get them prices in Starbucks).The only thing stopping this being a 5* diner is the pancakes where not made fresh, and the whipped dream was from a can! very small details! they didn't affect the experience much but would have been nice touches.This is worth seeking out especially if you are a fan of supporting local, as is surrounded by lovely market stalls with all sorts of trinkets, treasure and delicious sweet and savoury treats!

Reasonable grub at fair prices in the interesting surrounds of the Guildhall Market. Bath has plenty of choice, but this should not be overlooked if you're on a budget.
