Place has gone so down hill, the food is getting more and more expensive and the quality of the food is not even that good anymore. What annoys me even more is that I'm having to pay 10p for a sauce on my food? That too, 10p PER sauce. Absolute disgrace, want the original owner back

The food was stone cold and so dry. Everything we ordered was cold. Chips were not cooked enough, even curry sauce on chips were cold. Really dissatisfied with the food

Awful, ordered large chicken kebab and large chips with salt & vinegar. Awful, small dry kebab, limp greasy chips with no salt/vinegar... Go anywhere but here. . Awful

The kebab meat and chips came soaking with grease/oil and full of it on my chip. Made me hurl myself. However,chicken mushroom pie and chips were great.

Used to be a great fish and chips place that was cheap and affordable and delicious, but now the food tastes like cardboard coming in chunks meaning it’s not fresh at all. There was no taste with the fish being flavourless the fish was not fresh at all. Either the fish was preheated but it’s very disappointing. The food prices not only went up but the food has became more low quality with sauces being add ons. Definitely won’t be coming back.

kebab meat was really greasy which is a shame because it had a nice flavour. Chips were not cooked properly. my first and last time eating here.

Food is decent, workers are friendly, it's is very very clean and the only chip shop I personally use in Handsworth for 20+ yrs,

the food is somewhat anaemic but quality is not that great on the burgers and sausages the chips are good though and the chicken in nann is good too the spring roll was not good at all but the food came hot and kebab was wrapped in foil so all in all not bad

First time order was well cooked and tasty and fish was well cooked. This order was disappointing fish appeared well cooked only to find that the first bite of the fish was slimy realised they had left the skin on not cooked was disgusting had to bin it but my daughters kebab was fine. Need to remove skin off fish. Had they been nearer would had brought it back to the shop for replacement or refund. CHECK YOUR HAS NO SKIN ON

No quality chips or Pai rubbish

My go to chippy when Sez owned it. Im sure its the last original chip shop left. You won't be disappointed. Update*** Sez has sold the shop now so the quality of the food is not the same anymore. I only buy chips now cause you can't go wrong with a bag of chips.

Had large fish and chips but I feel like it was a mini fish as it was very small. It was nice but they need to stop making mistakes

Not like it use to be 😔, large cod was in 2 dry pieces that were definateley refried, sooo greasy and dark it was just saddening. Shame really, as the last time I ordered the it was decent...check out images

The stench of the fish was disgusting 🤮 How are they storing & preparing it? The chips were okay 1 star for the mushy peas which tasted nice. Curry sauce was watered down.

Wrong orders sent I ordered 2 portions of doner meat (no chips) and 1 cone of chips. Instead I recieved 2 small meat and chips as well as a cone of chips. Way too many chips as 2 people are on a low carb restricted diet now I have to throw away the extra and there is less meat than expected to go around.

Actually tried this chippy on recommendation and glad I did. Arrived hot and contents well cooked. Would buy again.

Me and my husband were regulars there but after today wernt be going back last week we bought mixed kebabs and the lamb donner was as thin as a crisp today we bought fish ans chips and the fish batter was so dull no flavoring what so ever chips were okay fish was very small like an asda version batter was a bit to soft miss the old owners there fish and chips used to be amazing and there price are so bad boxes are nice though

A really great chippy, chips are fresh and crisp, I had a mini cod with was full of flavour, the batter was nice and crunchy. They also do kebabs,(next time dish)

Third time new owners have took over from original owners Sez.The quality and quantity the food decreased in every aspects. Need to give better portions. Donner kebabs where sliced thick. Now thin less quantity. I use to be a regular customer. But not now

90 pence price rise and fish and chips and you only know about it when you've actually ordered and ready to pay

Food is always hot and tastes fresh. The staff here are absolutely fantastic, they are always so polite and friendly 😊 One of the best chip shops in the country if you ask me. Thank you for feeding me you wonder people who work here. Kindest regards R.Reeves

This chip shop has gone downhill since it's changed owners. The service, the food, the prices are a joke. I brought fries chicken and chips, the chicken was burnt, full of feathers and just not edible. The chips were average

I'm glad that fake obese girls gone Her food was overpriced She thought she was in London The food was so bland and average She just stood around the place chatting about customers Her husband was the local creep, always drunk on soho road lusting after young girls. She alway had a terrible attitude towards non Indians.

The staff are so friendly, nothing is too much trouble. The food was excellent quality, I had been traveling all day, and just wanted a nice meal, they delivered 100% quality service. Well done

Buy the Vegetarian chips from here. They cook them in a separate pan from everything else. Normally phone in for the order chips and curry sauce.

Google said it was the best chip shop around. Im not from the area. Chips - 3/5 Nothing special, bit crunchy, i have had better. Cheese and potato pie - 5/5. Curry sauce - Small pot, £1.40 overpriced. Lunchtime special should include a sauce. Total £5.90 - not really worth the price. Will try elsewhere next time.

Been going here for over 35yrs. Best chip shop in Birmingham. Very friendly staff. Good choice of food. 16/12/21-Had to edit my review from 5* to 1* as new owners have taken over. Everything has gone downhill. The chicken seems like very cheap cuts/meat and tasteless. Chips are over cooked and cut so thin they are rock hard. Shame, been using the place for over 35yrs.

Best chippy for miles. Edit: Such an unfortunate case. I've had to edit a five star review down to one. New ownership seem ok I guess, but they simply fail to understand the level of good will Sez and her partner fostered over the decades. Sez will greet you with a smile no matter how hard the graft was that given day, Kelly will do your nut in and you'll wall away with a smile. This atmosphere has all but gone in the few months since the takeover. The new pensioner bird they've got in is miserable and literally cannot hear the orders you place. She will try and get arsey when you ask where the rest of the stuff you asked for is. I walked out with my full order and could see her and the gaffer going back and forth excusing each other's unprofessionalism.

Use to be an amazing chippy from when I was a child I remember coming here and even into adult hood since orginal owners left food is definitely not the high standards took me awhile to try the new owners and what a waste of time and money no more decent chippys about. They should change the name as well that food is not worthy to carry the 'Grove lane fish bar's name.

This place has gone down hill sorry. Today is the last straw. Always get order wrong since main owner left. Never mind the state of the chicken. Always when Kelly is not around. Been coming here for 16 years. Look at the chicken 🤢🤢🤢 It's ashame

I’ve been going to this chips shop since 1984, never had one problem until today. I went in and was the first customer I ordered a mini fish and chips the guy gave me the fish which he had used to test the oil, which is disgusting oily over cooked it’s like mashed potatoes inside. If you are going to run a business like this I feel sorry for you.
