We had a lovely meal here a few months ago so we came back for lunch with other family members. This time the food was really awful with very slow service. Never again!

Brilliant from start to finish. We were shown to our room No.6 in the courtyard. Everything was perfect. We stayed for 1 night for my 60th birthday. Staff fantastic could not be more helpful, evening dinner excellent as well as breakfast. Our miniature schnauzer was made to feel most welcome, first time taking her away and she adored the place. Perfect for us as she could be with us whilst we were eating and in the bar. We had dessert in the lounge which is extremely comfortable and was given a lovely dessert wishing me a Happy Birthday. Well done to you all. Will return next summer.

The Grosvenor has been beautifully restored by the new owners, thoughtfully blending in modern touches. The result is a very comfortable, smart hotel with a whacky bar, gorgeous sitting room with panelled walls and squishy sofas. Bedrooms have been done really well, staff are friendly, food delicious - would highly recommend.

Terrace ambiance pleasant. Several interesting dishes albeit the nibbles and one starter would have been more enjoyable with better attention to details, including sufficient volume of the key content. Mains and sweets were very good/pleasant. A disconnect between the menu and drinks ordering possibly an "evening off" and/or easily remedied, and whilst irritating didn't spoil the visit.

We had planned our trip we had not booked our lunch venue so this was a spontaneous drop in request. A beautiful Georgian hotel commanding a place on the high street of this pretty market town. We were warmly welcomed and so were our little yorkies too! Settled in a sunny bay window . Very beautiful decoration and comfortable seating. We ordered drinks wine and Guinness-the bar was located in the same room ( they had further restaurant seating and lounge area too) . After their arrival we ordered 3 roast beef’s and the veggie roast wellington. I did specifically say I wanted the full works with vegetable sides etc. A very nice time to catch with our friends and soak in the sunshine and pleasant atmosphere. After a “little” wait our meals arrived …. I did have to ask for my sides as just had two pieces of root vegetable wellington & pepper sauce & helping of greens .He brought over 2 dishes of cauliflower cheese .( the staff on duty were quite new so understandable a few hiccups) I had to them ask for a Yorkshire pudding and then some roast potatoes … I gave up asking for for vegetables ( he did bring another dish of cauliflower cheese). Everything was lovely delicious- but my gripe was as mine was the same price £19 as a meat dish it should come with all the extras . We had desserts but ours- lime meringue was disappointing not worth £9 but our friends had chocolate delice which looked/was tasty - choose wisely! I would recommend for a warm welcome and good menu choice.

My wife and I had Valentine’s Day lunch here. The food we chose was delicious - a big step up with a new chef Ollie, for the G. We started with scallops, the best we’ve ever tasted, and my wife then had a vegetable Wellington and I had celeriac baked in salt. We aren’t vegans or vegetarians so this was a departure for us. Both dishes were full of good flavours. We’d both happily have them again. The service, and the attentiveness, particularly from Nicky, the head waitress, were excellent and we were very pleased indeed. We will keep going back for special occasions. Highly recommended.

The decor, ambience and delightful professional staff made our visit to The Grosvenor a special treat on Valentine’s day. The food was exceptional, clearly there is talent in the kitchen, and enquiring, I was told a new head chef has joined the team. For me a diehard foodie, this holds much excitement for the future. The bar area served us delicious amuse-gueles and offered a good choice of fizz by the glass including Pol Roger white foil which was as always a real treat yet reasonably priced. I can’t wait for the summer weather when the alfresco dining in the garden courtyard opens. A delightful experience. Bravi Ragazzi!

Pleasant welcome, broad lunch menu, prompt drinks offer and our food order was correctly taken. When the food arrived there were two minor items missing. Although staff were busying about, no one came to check that all was well. To have the offer of dessert, one had to summon a passing waiter. Quality of the food was in order and price was in line with the type of venue. To then add 12.5% service charge was an insult to the lack of service.

I came to The Grosvenor at the beginning of the month and sat with a group of friends, we got drinks which were all fine, however staff could have been a bit more attentive and approachable. We shared the Fish Platter (which I believe was a special at the time) & some other small plates. It was not what we had expected & most of it got left. I have never had muscles served cold before. Luckily we had space for desserts as these turned our visit around right at the last second. I had the Cheesecake which was delicious and clearly made in house rather than brought in like most places. Panna Cotta & a Cheese Board were also thoroughly enjoyed by our group. Overall an interesting meal that was made much better by such lovely puddings.

Having had a lovely visit to the Grosvenor back in February for valentines, we’d decided to return. What a mistake. We sat outside in the courtyard which is lovely. However, the staff were not only rude and acted as if we were an inconvenience, they were completely incompetent. Asking for orders before we had been given menus / wine lists, asking if our food was ok, but walking away before I had a chance to explain that one member of the party was still without his main course. The food was average at best and certainly didn’t warrant the cost.

My husband and I stayed at the Grosvenor the night of our Wedding day. We arranged for 10 of us to have breakfast the following morning in the Library, 5 residents at the hotel and 5 non-residents. The team were very accommodating, the service was wonderful, not over bearing but very attentive. The breakfast itself was cooked perfectly, delivered hot and we were not rushed so we could really enjoy sharing stories from the day before. Thank you for such a wonderful finish to the best weekend of our lives. Special thanks to Alex and Deborah for being the most joyful, happy and attentive people, you helped make it so very special.

The 4 of us couldn't remember getting such poor service for years. Appeared to be no management oversight leaving us at the mercy of a surly group of 3 who wished they weren't there and just didn’t care. Drinks meandered over after 20 minutes, getting some bread was a 30 minute effort and so on ... We cleared our own table at the end after the job got abandoned half way through. And arriving for Sunday roast, a choice of beef or pork should make the kitchens job fairly easy ... we put our order in to be told 'no pork'. Beef it is then! The shame of it is the decor is great in this lovely atmospheric hotel and the food when it arrived was excellent ... superb quality, generous, extra touches of gravy and piping hot veg. The chef is being badly let down by front of house and for the prices being charged customers deserve better. What a pity!

After eating in the lovely garden last summer we decided to make this venue our only Christmas dining place due to the cautions we personally now have in place due to the pandemic. After deciding not to stay overnight (in hindsight a good thing) we booked for a lunch with high expectations. Firstly there were no Christmas decorations apart from 1 tree with lights on in the dining room. Then, my cocktail was served in the bar with the girl actually holding the glass ignoring the trays sat by the drinks. No coaster was available so my drink was sliding round the marbled top table so was difficult to pick up. We were then offered a table by the doorway to the bar despite us booking a table in the restaurant. We were about to walk out when they found us a table in the restaurant. I have never written a long review as I think they can become tedious but I don't know how to abbreviate it without details. Our soup was delicious but the bread was served with a dish containing butter actually sat on the bread! There was nothing festive on the menu and most dishes contained some sort of hot spices which my husband cannot eat so he had to order a beefburger - an item we seldom eat, specially for our Christmas outing. It was overcooked and dry, burnt solid underneath, and he eventually gave up on it. I did take a photo but it looks as if an animal had regurgitated it so I won't post it. We commented twice but then decided that we would just leave and not bother with desserts or coffee. The hotel did not charge for the bad meal but we will never return and obviously word gets around. The waiting staff were dressed in jeans which we didn't think appropriate (maybe our age group but this is a hotel) and the service was slow as per other reviews. What a shame but we did find the seating uncomfortable and the restaurant atmosphere somewhat lacking.

Food was good but service was shocking! The staff had no clue what was going on. We were seated and then abandoned, had to ask for a wine list, had to ask for drinks and for our order to be taken. We were a table of 9 so not hard to miss! Food came and was delicious. Only one comment is the child portions are far too big. They cleared the plates and again we were abandoned. Never once asked for any more drinks or top up of water, no offer of dessert menu, we had to find them ourselves and then try and find someone to take our dessert order. Staff just floated about, there didn’t seem to be any management to run things. Little details like sauces and small side plates, gravy dishes all left on the table and not cleared. Management need to seriously train the staff and have someone overseeing on a “busy” Sunday. Embarrassing!

Popped in here without looking at the menu beforehand. I wish we had. When visiting before we have always had a reasonable sized meal for a average price, oh dear, not this time. The size of the meal would have hardly satisfied my cat and the dessert, well not sure what it was but it was supposed to have been a cheesecake. The price we were charged would have been enough for us to go elsewhere for double the amount of people. I can't even say anything good about the setting, there were cobwebs hanging from the ceiling, the chairs were not comfortable and there was no atmosphere whatsoever. Will definitely not be going back.

We thought this was going to be the best evening for some time, unfortunately & sadly it failed expectations. However the food was excellent, only praise for this BUT we were there for over 2 hours & in that time we only managed an apertiser and a main course each. It was all taking so long we had to ask if our food had been forgotten, (the restaurant was possibly only half full), - it was so so slow.... because of this we didn't have a desert, we didn't have any more patience to wait & wait, - a great shame. Small points, there were no fish knives for the fish course, & we had to ask for the redundant wine glasses to be removed, - it just lacked that caring attention to detail. The slow service was just a service, not a welcoming hospitable affair, our table was unfortunately by the entrance door, - far from the best table but we thought OK as the restaurant would fill up, but it didn't and other better positioned tables remained free. We wouldn't necessarily recommend this to friends without making them aware of the shortcomings, and we wouldn't hurry back, but if we did go back, we would ask for a table in the restaurant away from the entrance. As they say - 'room for improvement' Note: distinct contrary to the food, when asked the bill came literally within minutes....

The title of this review may sound a bit patronising but that's our clear reflection of a first visit to the Grosvenor and it doesn't quite warrant a 4* review as yet.The greeting on arrival didn't create a best first impression, as the manager wandered off and we were seemingly expected to follow, before being directed to a table in the far corner of a virtually deserted dining room.Things improved when our waitress came over to take us through the menu and wine list - the service was consistently good throughout our meal. The menu was fine for a light lunch but am not sure it would float my boat if we had been there for an evening meal. We ordered mussels (beautiful) and lobster roll (big brioche bun and plenty of dressing but not much lobster) and enjoyed the Spanish white wine which our waitress recommended.Overall an enjoyable lunch in pleasant but slightly soul-less surroundings and it still feels like work in progress (not just because the building is covered in scaffolding). Shows promise but we will leave it a little while before returning.

We returned today for Sunday lunch. It was busy and obviously popular! Sadly the demand was more than perhaps could be coped with! The roast beef was barely warmed and was not cooked! We like rare roast beef but this was barely warmed! The hot gravy we were given did not improve matters. The vegetables were acceptable if over done and the roast potatoes clearly cooked off and reheated making them hard. The cauliflower cheese was nice in flavour but burnt on the top! We had not been asked how we liked our beef to be cooked and frankly I could not face asking for it to be re cooked and having to wait or a drama made out of my asking for it to be cooked!. I left virtually all my beef as it was raw! no one was interested as to why! This place started out as a cut above other places in Stockbridge and I rated it as excellent but today it was just ordinary and below par . Such a shame !

Maybe not the young man who refused to write our orders down and then had to be repeated to someone else later. The decor will take time as still feels "cold" and not welcoming. Having stayed previously, the improvement achieved in only a couple of weeks by the new management is quite remarkable. Although at the moment most of the changes are in the refreshed public areas, my bedroom was spotlessly clean with good quality linen and toiletries. Breakfast served in the refurbished dining room, until late, which suited the sloth in me, an unusually well thought out menu, which augurs well for the restaurant menu, which I was not able to try. Good bar, particularly as the sticky carpet a thing of the past - tables still a trifle tenacious - but very reasonably priced drinks. Nothing appeared to be too much trouble for the helpful and smiling staff and management, having one's bags carried, greatly appreciated. I just hope that they can keep up this stylish, enthusiastic revival, if so, they deserve to succeed. I will certainly return.

We stopped here while on the way. We sat down in the pub area as we wanted to be quicker and not have a long sit down lunch. The people were friendly and the food was good. But it wasn't anything special. Next time I'd probably go to the hotel-restaurant side, or a different restaurant. Not because the food was bad, but for the smell. The pub area allows dogs, which is a choice to be respected. But I didn't like it to smell like dogs without dogs being there. My preference. I just wanted to inform you dogs are allowed in the pub.

We stayed here for one night on 12th Feb. We couldn't find anyone on the desk to check us in but after ringing the bell someone came from the kitchen. It seems they are understaffed and having to cover numerous roles at once. The staff were very friendly and helpful, we just felt they were being asked to cover too much. Our room was ok but a bit tired. The bed was comfortable and it was clean but the decor and furniture need updating. Despite the brochure stating that food was available until 10pm, we were told at 9pm that the kitchen had closed. Breakfast was ok but the cooked English was very small and the poached egg was hard. It was ok for the money but not worth more than the £62 we paid.

Had a fantastic evening with friends at The Grosvenor Hotel and entertained by Rod Stewart tribute act. Fantastic atmosphere, a buffet laid out and looked amazing, but they went the extra mile to serve me my meal due to a food intolerance. Great staff, and fab Manager, well done Becca. Happy New year everyone.

We joined friends in seeing the new year in at the Grosvenor in Stockbridge. The buffet that was laid on was really tasty and there was lots of it. The entertainment was a Rod Stewart tribute act who was absolutely brilliant. The staff were friendly and attentive without being pushy. All in all a smashing start to 2019 courtesy of Rebecca and all the staff at the Grosvenor !! Happy to recommend and will definitely be returning.

I first went to this hotel when I was six years old with a Baroness although i can’t remember that far back but throughout the years I went there often . Lords and ladies frequently stayed there from London for the river test fishing. I was a regular visitor there and unfortunately saw the hotel gradually going downhill. After my last visit there I shall never return , awful food sent over cooked and undercooked . Staff very badly dressed and hotel not really clean. What a shame ruined by Green King . Lord J Ferraro.

No welcome on arrival, in fact the hotel staff all seemed pre-occupied. No-one showed us to our table. We just guessed which table was ours as we were a group of 6. After ordering we were then told 3 of the 7 mains not available. My son had to change his order 3 times and husband 4 times to get something which was available. Then my husband’s starter wasn’t available and when his main arrived it was awful. Some of the others were ok but not worth the price charged. The scallops starter was tasteless too. This was supposed to be our family Xmas meal with my parents who had travelled over from Ireland. The whole experience was poor. The drinks service was slow too, we had to ask twice for a jug of water. And my son’s first choice drink wasn’t available. Behind us was a table with some of the breakfast stuff on display too. Although they gave us 10% off the meal it was not worth it and we will never return here.

An all round poor experience. We were not staying at the hotel but went for a family dinner. We were not greeted as we arrived despite 3 staff milling around. We had to go to Reception who confirmed we were in the Dining Room. We then had to find our own table and guessed the right one! My father in law then had to go and confirm we were in the right place. Not a great start and not boding well for the rest of the evening. The waitress was then not very familiar with the menu and I had to point out that they did sell Ginger Beer. I ordered a bottle of Big Earl Malbec Red Wine. She said she wasn’t sure if they had that anymore. She returned with a different bottle and with no idea if it was a similar price. However the wine was nice which was the single highlight of the evening. We ordered food; 2 starters and 6 main courses. The waitress returned shortly afterwards as 2 of the burgers ordered by my sons were not available. They reordered and a third dish was not available so my youngest son ordered again. I ordered the Wagyu burger and she returned to tell me that wasn’t available either. So I ordered the Fillet Steak. Guess what- not available and then Chicken Fajitas, not available either so on my fourth choice ordered Hunters Chicken even though I didn’t really want that. 10 mins later the waitress returned again to tell me my Starter of King Prawns in Chilli and Garlic was not available so I ordered Scallops with bacon on a pea purée. My son had the same starter. Both were cold, the bacon was more fat than meat and the pea wasn’t seasoned. Bland was the word my son used. My wife and son had chicken burgers and both were over cooked and the salad was scraggy. My Hunters Chicken was over cooked and the chicken had the texture of rubber. The plates were all cold. The bacon was just fatty and the BBQ sauce was burnt on the dish. The salad was definitely not fresh and the coleslaw was not freshly made and with full fat mayonnaise.

With friends for a early Christmas get together. Had preordered food. Starter was Crayfish Cocktail, really a nasty, bitter taste to the sauce that smothered the Crayfish. We both sent it back and ordered soup instead. Soup was vegetable, but tasted like cloves had been added, so not overly pleasant. Main course Steak, mine wasn’t very hot but was cooked as requested. 3 small mushrooms, chips, some green leaves and tomato. Pepper sauce on the side. Dessert Chocolate and Kitch torte. Obviously bought in, served with ice cream. Nothing to write home about. Water glasses on table but had to ask for jugs to be brought to us. Very disappointing food.

I visited this hotel in Stockbridge for lunch and enjoyed the experience. The food was quite good, tasty and nicely prepared, and very reasonably priced. The service was also very good, and fast, with friendly staff. My only complaint, if anything at all, is that the place didn't seem clean to me. Crumbs on the table, on the bar, on the carpet, and it just generally looked as if it needed a good clean. But that's my only con amid a lot of pros. The atmosphere and ambience is quite nice too. We had a lovely table in the sun by the window. We didn't stay in the rooms, so I cannot comment on them.

The hotel was large and clean. There is a lovely garden with nice areas of secluded seating, so you don’t feel like you’re ‘in the middle’ of everyone. The room was very comfortable and clean. The hotel is very old and could do with some updating. There is limited paring to the rear for guests so that’s a bonus. The restaurant is very nice. The food was amazing and very reasonably priced. The staff were warm and friendly and extremely polite. I recommend this hotel.

Booked here for lunch to celebrate wedding anniversary, thought it strange no one else was in the dining room. Crumbs on tables and floor, obviously had not been swept for a while. Ordered steak which was inedible so replaced with another only marginally better. Staff did their best and gave us free desserts but it totally ruined our day. Waitress said they are changing provider as so many complaints! Would never eat here again.

Two of us ordered Cod wrapped in Pancetta. When the dish arrived there was no Pancetta (kitchen had run out) and the cod was very dry and very overcooked. The asparagus was so raw that we were unable to cut into it. The new potatoes were tastless and dry. We were offered an alternative meal, but declined and in all fairness they took these off the bill. I had a starter of Scallops and from memory I think there were 2/3 on the plate and they were cold inside and had either come from the freezer or a very cold fridge. We stayed two more nights in the Grosvenor but ate elsewhere on each occasion. There was talk of a new chef arriving and I hope he has!

We were staying in the hotel and chose to eat there. It seemed a bit disorganised, one of our meals was totally different to what had been ordered (we were ordering off the Sunday menu and the order he put through was off the normal menu which we didn't see), I had a 25% off voucher which I showed when I ordered, however, the discount hadn't been applied when we paid our bill the next morning (but this was immediately rectified). We also had breakfast, which was very tasty - there is a great choice.

Booked lunch here in the restaurant and was sorely disappointed. Glasses were dirty, seats stained with split drinks and tables scuffed. Generally, felt like a very tired place that could be an amazing goldmine for the right owners. On arrival we were seated (only one other table being used on a Saturday lunchtime in the entire time we were there) and provided with menus. Having ordered 3 different mains our party was informed that none of the dishes were available due to “kitchen issues” (inspiring stuff). We then waited for 40 minutes for a shared warm plater starter that was basically deep fried pub fair that I thought died out on the 80s. My main course of beef pie was grisly and very much bought in. Overall, disappointing and there are a couple of lovely pubs up the road that were busy and had great menus that I would certainly recommend.

The food here was fine and a suitable location for people with small children as lots of space. I ordered the Wagyu burger and the waitress clearly didn’t understand what I meant. My daughter and I found this cafe by accident. Here are our thoughts. 1. too small to allow dogs indoors. 2. could do with a bit of a refresh. The chair pads were stained and there were grease stains up the wall by our table. 3. toilet was very clean but on the first floor which meant climbing some very steep steps. Not disabled friendly. However my daughter who is vegetarian had a really good choice of foods and thoroughly enjoyed her meal. The young staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The coffee was delicious as was my hummus platter with Greek salad. The prices were good and I would highly recommend but I think it could be even better with a bit of a refurb. Didn't get to see the garden as it was too hot to sit outside but from the photos it looks really nice.

Portway Inn, was the best place for breakfats for my family and I. we use to go each week. Todday we were turned away and was told they no longer accept outside customers only residents only. I have taken a picture of each of these. There terms and conditions, there website, their menu and when you walk towards the reception entrance from car park, no where does it say residents only can get breakfast. what a waste of time and fuel.
