Grocers Cafe in Vale of White Horse

We had a delicious Afternoon Tea at The Grocer Chef today. A lovely selection of sandwiches, cakes and scones in a beautiful setting. Highly recommended.

We have visited The Grocery Chef a few times now and everytime the food has been excellent. Everthing is homemade. The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful. Well behaved dogs are allowed but understandably they like them to have clean paws otherwise you are issued with a towel.

This is a lovely Cafe with plenty of seating inside or outside. We ordered sandwiches which are freshly made and a pot of tea. The Staff are all very welcoming. Highly Recommend

Grocer Chef provided a fabulous afternoon tea for my dads 93rd birthday treat today. Extremely well priced compared with other local afternoon teas (£14.95 pp) with limitless tea & coffee and so much to eat for three of us we had to take some home. To top it off was the ambience, lovey spot on the shady patio, perfect for a hot summers day, such friendly people nothing was too much trouble. Our niece & husband dropped in just before closing time on their way down south and were made to feel very welcome with hot drinks, we didn’t feel uncomfortable in the slightest that they were about to close. Thank you, we will definitely be booking for the next family birthday.

Ordered sandwiches, plus a gluten free and a vegan afternoon tea, at fairly short notice. It was all amazing, very well presented, ready for collection at the time arranged.

Ordered 3 individually boxed afternoon teas for my Mother in Law’s lockdown birthday and a couple of friends. They enjoyed a virtual tea party in their own homes. Great selection of sandwiches, scones and cakes, excellent quality and quantity, highly recommend!

Enjoyed a great coffee and flapjack. Lovely peaceful seating area outside. Some nice produce in the shop as well.

We’ve literally driven out here just for an ice cream, coffee or a sausage roll. Food is excellent and staff are exceptional. Hungry, thirsty, peckish, or wanting a treat to eat? Stop here.

Always a pleasure to go to The Grocer Chef. Food is always top notch and the staff are equally as good. I had the coronation chicken in jacket potato - just the right amount of spice in the chicken. My best friend had the scampi and salad - and real scampi - not this fake stuff you get at some restaurants. Great service, great food and reasonably priced.

Stopped off for brekkie en route to a meeting, not my normal breakfast stop, but it opens at 8am so I can leave very early, have breakfast and get to my meeting refreshed. No veggie breakfast on the menu. I don't know why but I always find that rude. I don't want to be an after-thought or have to make a fuss. Of course they could cook me a veggie breakfast without the sausage and bacon, great, but forgot to check if they would cook in vegetable oil. Hope they did. Breakfast was good. Not great, but perfectly fine. Good value at £8. The coffee was a bit bitter. The staff were lovely, very chatty and friendly. Parking is a nightmare until you find out that you can park in the residents parking areas. Otherwise leave your car on the side of the road somewhere and walk. Would probably come back, it's a bit off the beaten track but looks like a pretty village.

Some community cafes can make visitors feel like intruders - not here! The mix of locals, commuters and walkers gave a buzzing atmosphere and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. This lovely modern conversion offers lovely home-made food in a comfortable, clean and spacious setting. The menu ranges from sandwiches and jackets to omelettes and a whopping serving of gammon, egg, pineapple & chips. Parking is a bit restricted, but there is a visitors car park just down the road and the village is fascinating to walk around.

Have been visiting The Grocer Chef for years. Usually for a coffee and a cake but recently taking in their lunch menu. The one constant through all the visits is the “great” - couple this to food, coffee, service, people and atmosphere - it all works. Other coffee shops and restaurants oscillate up and down in terms of food and service. The Grocer Chef just keep the quality bar really high. Keep up the great work.

I have had several excellent lunches here when meeting old colleagues after retirement. Simple wholesome food is served by friendly and efficient staff. It says much that I am prepared to make a five hour return trip to enjoy it!

Open from 6am, they serve full breakfast promptly and sell the Racing Post. Perfect! Very convenient.

We often use this café as a cake stop on our cycle rides. We work up an appetite and can justify having worked off the calories. Friendly, helpful staff, a nice garden (when it's sunny) great for coffee and cake, or a cream tea.

Lovely tea room but one which serves cooked lunches as well. We on this occasion only had coffee and cake but the quality was excellent and such a wide selection of cakes. We will certainly come back for lunch one day.

I've visited her several times when I'm the area on my motorbike. Food is good, the service excellent and there is always a good welcome, even when your wet and cold. The soul was tasty, but could have been warmer. Service is consistently good.
