Grill on The Dock in Tower Hamlets

We visited today with our son, it advertised as a grill offering Sunday lunch. However on arrival we were immediately informed the Sunday lunch wasn’t available. We had one starter of prawns, two fish and chips main meals and one sea bass and salad. We eat out frequently and value good food and service. We should have followed our instincts on arrival since there were only two other tables occupied in the Grill part of the restaurant. The waitress was ok, but not the most hospitable or friendly. The starter which consisted of a few bland looking prawns scattered on a plate, together with three limp looking pieces of tender stem broccoli, cost just under £10 and hardly amounted to value for money. The two fish and chips were just about edible. Small, pale chips, ok fish and some nondescript stuff in a pot which we assumed was tartare sauce. The sea bass was again just about ok, but the salad was plain, no presentation and no thought involved. The best part of the meal was the white wine, very nice. The total bill amounted to £108 with a service charge. Another waitress asked our opinion to which I gave an honest answer and said we definitely wouldn’t be returning. The service charge was removed before we paid. Since we don’t see our son too often, complaining during the meal wasn’t something I was prepared to do. Needless to say we don’t recommend this venue.

Very good gastropub in St. Katharine Docks. Good quality of their food, especially their burgers, and beers. Good prices. No reservation is needed to eat and the order is placed via mobile phone, the tip is optional and is not added automatically. The price per person is about 20 pounds and up. Its facade is currently under construction but it is one of the greatest exponents of the site for its flower decoration. I recommend it!

We went on a night where the area was buzzing and so was the pub. We enjoyed the vibes and how busy the pub was. The drinks were well priced and I had a few good hours with friends. Look forward to returning as I love the pub and the area. Maybe next time I will get something to eat...

The pub is in a fabulous area and the building itself is really nice, even for London prices this place is astronomical. They need to do more cleaning of the place in terms of moving glasses etc. was really busy and had a nice buzz but just so expensive.

Was so looking forward to coming to this old famous pub in the heart of St Katherine docks Marina - on arrival we used the Ladies toilets & found them absolutely disgusting. Toilets are a big idea of how clean a place is ! Luckily we hadn’t sat down and ordered our meal as if the Ladies toilets looked this unhygienic what does the kitchen look like. I did write to the pub but have had no response so decided that sharing my opinion may warn others about the cleanliness of this place before they eat here. We left feeling disappointed and went elsewhere to eat.

From the outside, even on a cold dark winters night in January, the Dickens Inn looks idyllic. That’s where the story ends in our opinion.  Being a Saturday evening we expected it to be busy, as was the case but there was no atmosphere, just busy!  The tables were sticky, many not cleared of empty glasses & plates in a reasonable time and we were unable to order food from the app. A couple of the TV’s showing sport keep freezing for long periods and  the place was cold, with radiators not on and no warm welcome from the staff who seemed indifferent. The toilets were something from the 80’s, in such a mess and flooded.  The food, whilst not particularly expensive, wasn’t great quality and on par with  J D Wetherspoons.  Will we return ?  That’s a No from Us.

It’s 7 pm and there is someone playing the bag pipes in the pub very loud not body can talk is this a PR stunt or the management morons ?? Fire the idiot

Always a regular drop in when visiting the area, However the recent visit left me feeling a tad bemused. Draught lager was flat and sadly the bar staff did not seem very “bothered” to perhaps check on gas or glasses etc however did offer alternative drink which was good however sadly that line was also flat, So resorted to bottled beer. Friday afternoons into evenings would normally be jumping due to local office workers finishing off their week with drinks, Yet this time the bar was dead, At one stage that were probably 4-tables in the whole bar which was shocking compared to how it has been, Yes of perhaps the time of the year is a big factor, However the choice of draught has changed a lot with Stella and Peroni no longer on offer and more B-C* class of lagers on offer Fingers crossed the venue “Hots Up” and bring back the more top line draught beers please

Le cadre est plutôt sympa. C'est tout. On a eu froid. Pour moi, le "seabass", bar en français semblait réchauffé, un peu sec. La ratatouille qui l'accompagnait était tiède. Pour les autres convives, burger à la viande trop, trop cuite. Desserts quelconques.

Il locale è caratteristico, i piatti non sono nemmeno male. Ma il topo che corre sotto ai tavoli non è stato particolarmente gradito.

Great view of the dock. Food came out black including the lemon on my plate. Empty restaurant. Bar had a good atmosphere.

We visited The Dickens Inn for drinks and snacks in December 2023. This expansive wooden building is located within the picturesque St Katherine's Dock area, close to the Tower of London and Tower Bridge. There were four well kept real ales on offer at the time of our visit as well as a wide variety of other beers, lagers, wines and spirits. Although it was late lunchtime we were able to find a table fairly easily and ordered some snacks off the menu, which arrived quickly. As per most pubs in London, the prices aren't the cheapest but the surroundings are interesting and feel like being on a wooden sailing ship (the building was originally a tea warehouse). We were glad we came here and would return again, if in the vicinity.
