If you have a gluten allergy, there's virtually nothing here for you, food or drinks. Also, the host seemed inexplicably put out when we showed up to a mostly-empty grill without reservations asking for a two-top. My partner and I each had a drink before deciding to leave and go somewhere that had at least something gluten-free.

The Sunday Roast was a big disappointment- the meat was tough, the gravy had no flavour, the Yorkshire pudding was dry and with the exception of the potatoes the veggies were bland, so was the veggie cauliflower roast. The service was fine but we waited a long time for our bill even though it wasn’t very busy. The location, building and view are great. Reading other reviews it might be worth trying other foods, but I cannot recommend the roast.

Ristorante tutto in legno, accogliente e servizio veloce. Lo consiglio anche a famiglie con bambini. Prezzo adeguato.

09/10/2024 On the recommendation of our local guide we tried this restaurant for lunch. We wanted to try the fish and chips but didn't want to stumble into some tourist trap. They served us a good fish fillet with chips, a side of peas and tartar sauce. We have no terms of comparison, being our first fish and chips but we found it good, tasty with dry and crunchy frying. 4 stars for this reason alone, not knowing it as a dish, we don't know if it is THE best or one of the most valid. Modest price, around £25 per head with a water and a 500ml beer. Large, clean environment, with lots of wood in full English pub style. Polite and kind staff. Promoted!

We were a group of 8 fir brunch at around 11.30 on a Saturday morning. The bar was quiet but they were hosting a wedding party upstairs. The service was fine considering the staff had to make coffees for half the group, which is never a quick process if done properly. We sat outside in the sunshine and all had the full English which was good value for the area at £12.99ph. It was a little on the lukewarm side when served but perfectly cooked. The dock area is picturesque, and the Dickens was well worth the visit.

We’ve often dropped into the Dickens Inn when over at the marina there and over that time it’s got progressively worse food wise the meals always arrive semi cold or not cooked to standard, the last two times I ordered fish and chips not only was it just luke warm but the batter inside was literally raw and totally unacceptable, I sent it back they replaced the meal grudgingly. The last time on 04.10.2024 again I ordered fish and chips and again it came along almost cold as did the rest of my company of people present just like the previous visit here we all sent our meals back as totally unacceptable, they mearly warmed it up, we’d already waited 40 minutes for the meal then another 15 minutes for an almost eatable meal, fair enough they were busy. It appears the meals are cooked, sent out to be delivered to the diners but are left on a counter for ages waiting for the staff to take to the appropriate tables, that was an observation on our last visit to The Dickens Inn, they don’t seem to care at what seems to be an ongoing problem after all the place fills with mostly tourists who come and go who wouldn’t complain because they return to their own countries, why should they bother and those who never return are replaced by other tourists anyway so no loss there!!!! Well I’m sure there isn’t many regular diners because the food isn’t up to scratch anyway, we will never return because basically the problems will never be solved due to the fact it’s a tourists stop by for a quick meal but I will indeed be putting this review in the appropriate tourists guides too!!!!

Very questionable experience in one of the most beautiful old buildings in the city; My husband and I visited the Dickens Inn some time ago and were looking forward to returning. We were quite shocked by the poor and extremely unfriendly service and how dirty the establishment was and it was extremely loud. The house is definitely worth seeing, the food is okay and the prices are high - but where in London aren't they? What didn't work at all: The table was disgustingly dirty and only after asking several times did an assistant come who tidied up the table more poorly and seemed quite annoyed. The highlight of the whole experience: My husband was ignored at the bar for a quarter of an hour and then insulted in a rude manner - that's not how you treat your customers, especially because we always try to be polite. I really don't like writing bad reviews, but I think it's appropriate here and I can only advise you to avoid the Dickens Inn until their employees have undergone training in professional hospitality.
