Dickens Inn in Tower Hamlets

We dined in the upstairs restaurant. Service was really slow - it seemed only 1 person was really attentive to the table but he was amazing. We had noone take our drinks until this guy had come off what ws clearly his lunch then he was on it! It took a good half an hour before drinks were even ordered - and we were only 1 of 4 tables in there! We went at about 4pm on a Sunday and they had already run out of most of the roasts. They turned so many people away that day as not long after us, they had run out of the majority of the menu. No background music - very quiet. Lacked atmosphere. Even the kitchen was very quiet! The place is beautiful so it was a shame it lacked the atmosphere inside.

We had a great time. Beers and food were on top and Moon served us perfectly and super quick. Thanks for the amazing night Moon!

Not very good really. Nice location but the menu was not the same as online and there were very limited ‘British Fare’. I mean - it’s called the Dickens Inn!! I can get pizza or burgers anywhere. The fish & chips were ok. Chicken shawarma was very salty. It was just so disappointing. Drinks were good and it’s big with lots of seating. But it looked rundown. I had been trying to get there for a year. I won’t go back. There are better pubs in London.

Lovely Spot for a Few Pints We stopped by The Dickens Inn for a few pints and really enjoyed it. The ambience is charming with its rustic timber-framed building and flower-decked balconies. It overlooks the marina, which makes for a relaxing and scenic setting—perfect for unwinding. A great spot to soak in some character and enjoy a drink.

The Dickens Inn is one of the most consistently brilliant places in London. Set in a stunning building, the three floors provides for anything from pub to restaurant in a cosy setting. Service is always superb and the food is amazing.

Beautiful pub next to Tower Bridge. At Saint Catherine's dock, dock full of boats. We ate the famous Sundays roast and my daughters hamburgers. We ate very well. Pub, beautiful restaurant in ideal surroundings

The plastic flowers are an absolute disgrace. An insult to the memory of what this beautiful inn once was. Whoever is responsible for this should be locked up in the Tower.

I love St.Katherine’s Dock… I always take family and friends there for a walk about, always go into The Dickens Inn for a drink and nibbles. I took a friend there and decided to have our meal at the top floor restaurant at The Dickens Inn for the first time and I’m so glad we did. The atmosphere and ambiance was lovely and relaxing with an attentive waiter by Moon but not over the top. Definitely would recommend. Good value for money, food tasted good, drinks were serviced ice cold for this weather was cooling and refreshing. For starters we had mushrooms with herbs served on toasted sough dough bread to share, for main we had sea bream serviced on ratatouille and portion of triple fried chips with cheese. For drinks we had Aperol with spritz and iced tap water with fresh slices of lime.

A very charismatic pub in an Elizabethan building with multiple floors and outside seating. Prices for food and drinks were reasonable for the area.

Nice pub on St Katherine's Dock not far from Tower Bridge. The staff were friendly and welcoming. It had a good selection of beers wines and spirits.

Wonderful to find a pub on the water, in the heat of St Katherine's dock, with such a historical background. It's actually been moved and refurbished but all the old beams are still there. We had Roast, fish and chips and burger and chips

Went to St. Katherine's dock for a peaceful meal at the Dickens Inn. The balcony was closed so no view of the docks, the air conditioning unit is very loud when you're outside so you don't get the peace of the area, the food was not great, green salad was mainly kale including the stalks. The meal wasn't delivered with grilled chicken and we had to ask for that separately. The fish and chips was okay but not very warm. Feels like the place is relying on its fantastic location.

Lovely place! Behind the Tower Bridge in a silent setting overlooking a small port, it's like being in a movie, friendly staff and excellent food! We couldn't help but try the classic fish & chips, what can I say, exceptional! Good quality/price ratio for the raw material and the English currency (euro exchange rate). Highly recommended!

The pub looks great from the outside.

It's an absolute treasure of a place situated perfectly, with great views of St. Katherine's dock. The building itself is beautiful with lovely flower displays and a really welcoming atmosphere. There are 3 levels, with outside terraces, sitting outside options available. We went to the grill at the top and had fish and chips and mac and cheese. To be honest it was some of the best food, we had tasted and ate in ages. The portion sizes were huge, and they gave me another full-size piece of cod as they said my one was small. We couldn't even finish it all or order dessert as we were so full up. The food is cooked openly in front of you. The premises are clean and decor is farm house, country style. Such a peaceful eating experience. The staff were lovely, so friendly and attentive and to top it off, it was so cost effective. We will definitely be back.

Very nice location (in case you are searching: the restaurant is on the upper floor), good food, reasonably priced and great service (thank you to our waiter, Moon).

Not happy with this place at all. QR code on outside table was not working so went to the bar to order the 2 pizzas and 3 drinks. Total came to £65 which I paid and then got a receipt after paying. I then brought the drinks back to my table outside. A little later the 2 pizzas turned up. Checked my receipt the next day and I can see that they had put a 12.5% (£7.25) service charge on my bill which they had me pay before getting a receipt in my hand. Let me get this straight then, I've paid £7.25 for being served at the bar and for 2 pizzas to be brought to my table; or does that include cooking the pizzas for me? I'm getting sick of establishments taking the pee out of their customers by thinking they are entitled to a service charge. How about this - a customer will give you a tip after they have paid the bill if they feel like it and without being asked for it. I was gonna take my Mrs here for her birthday as she quite liked it but not now. You'll only take my trousers down once.

Great time at the grill. We were a big group wo reservation and they were kind to fit us in. We had the pleasure of being attended by Moon who was very kind and patient with our demands. Would highly recommend!

Enjoyed a wonderful fish and chip dinner here. Our waiter, Moon was friendly and professional. My wife really enjoyed her Sticky Date Pudding. Chocolate Raspberry Torte was yummy too!

I was there in December with the intention of trying the Sunday roast. I loved it. The very nice place in a small port next to Tower Bridge.

Such a shame. 15 years ago loved this place, but now unpleasant staff, really bad food, and 45 minutes to wait for it. Ordered 3 pizzas, all cold on arrival, and one roast cauliflower which was so hard my wife couldn’t cut into it with a knife. Ordered from the qr code at the table which didn’t work, so went to the bar to order which was more expensive!! When I pointed this out to the bar staff, they just shrugged their shoulders. How sad that what used to be such an exellent place with huge food portions, fun staff, and brilliant atmosphere has now turned into this expensive mess. Won’t go back there again.

Came for lunch for the second time at The Grill upstairs - had fish and chips which was okay but the chips were similar to a takeaway shop and not seasoned at all. The service was also very slow and not the most attentive, but the price is decent for what it is. Don’t think I would come back but it’s not bad.

Absolutely poorly run operation. Despite having "Famous Fish", it was undercooked and heavy on batter. Absolute rubbish. Don't waste youth time or money. All pay in advance for a reason.

Really lovely old Pub just a short walk from the Tower of London. It was a lovely day so we sat in the beer garden and the kids enjoyed their lunch and it was a great spot for an afternoon drink.

Stopped off for here at the end of a day in London. It was quite busy but service was very quick and there were plenty of tables. The chicken wings were tasty and the steins of beer were most welcome!

Nice building in a nice place, however when I visited the bar staff were enforcing queuing at the bar! That's not how pubs work in England, let's not lose this important aspect of pub culture.

Good food and drink. Tends to be super busy so service gets a knock. Staff try their best and all in all a good pub experience. Sitting outside would be much nicer if you were not surrounded by billowing tobacco smoke.

One of my favourite spots in London for pizza. It’s such a lovely place to come to on a sunny day. Sitting outside on the balcony with all the flowers overlooking St Katherine’s Docks, it’s beautiful.

What a gem of a pub in a brilliant location! The Dickens Inn is a large, characterful spot right on St. Katharine Docks, perfect for a relaxed pint with a view. Had a lovely glass of Orchard Thieves cider—cold, crisp, and absolutely hit the spot. The service was quick and genuinely friendly, which made the whole experience even better. Great atmosphere, plenty of space, and a perfect place to unwind.

This is a beautiful pub located within St. Katherine’s dock close to Tower Bridge and the Tower of London. A very busy a popular place to visit particularly in nice weather. The drink selection is vast and despite queues you will not wait long to be served. What lets the Dickens Inn down is the food itself terrible what sounds and reads well is nothing better than I would get at a well known UK pub chain ending in Spoons. For the price I paid for a spicy chicken shawarma I was expecting more and when I say more I mean I received a small portion. I would definitely visit the pub again and would recommend a visit but only for drinks.

El servicio era raro - orden en el mostrador, nos equivocamos de orden, tuvimos que volver a pedir postre incluido. Porciones grandes; comida sabrosa excepto la salsa tártara.

Had a wonderful experience today at The Grill at The Dickens Inn. Was given an excellent table outside with a good view of the Tower Bridge and dined on their scotch egg and Bloody Mary (spicy just how I like it!) which were both amazing. I recommend requesting Moon as a server if you can. He was very attentive and welcoming, and checked in on me many times to make sure I was having a good time. Strong recommend if you're looking for a filling meal with a good atmosphere.

Food looked and tasted worse than my home-cooked meals. Dry burger, dry salmon swimming in oil and water, super dry and tasteless risotto.. no effort in presentation… speechless.

Fui a otro el sábado pasado, que era un día gloriosamente soleado, así que comprensiblemente el pub estaba lleno. El personal de servicio amable y nos sentamos y tuvimos un aperitivo y una bebida. El horror que siguió cuando fui con las damas fue increíble. 8 baños. 4 a la izquierda estaban todos fuera de servicio que dejó 4 a la derecha. Uno estaba comprometido y los otros tres eran más que repugnantes. Rebosante de papel y cosas peores y el olor era horrendo. Le informé a un miembro del personal que dijo que sé que algunas personas lo han mencionado como un error que no tenemos tiempo para atenderlos. Salimos inmediatamente y fuimos al hotel Tower a tomar una copa. Honestamente, no puedo creer que los baños quedaran en un estado tan terrible. Debo estar de visita por un buen tiempo ahora.

Lovely location, the sunday roast was a disappointment, as many other reviews have pointed out. The management should really look into customers' feedback and do something about it. I ordered the cauliflower roast and it was bland, poorly cooked, assembled and seasoned. Other friends who ordered the chicken and beef roast shared similar disappointing feedback. What a shame.

The Dickens Inn has a beautiful historical charm and a great location in St. Katharine Docks, which makes it a lovely place to visit. Unfortunately, the Sunday roast was a real letdown. I ordered the vegan roast, which turned out to be a whole cauliflower that was both undercooked and under-seasoned—bland and difficult to cut through. For the price, I expected something more thoughtfully prepared. It’s a shame because the atmosphere is great, but the food didn’t live up to the setting. Wouldn’t rush back for the roast.

food very poor and disappointing. so bad sent one dish back and second plate of food served on plate so cold could have come out of a fridge. veg roast cauliflower dish raw/uncooked. Avoid will never go back.

Really disgusting food, don’t waste your money on it! Caesar salad was basically iceberg lettuce with no flavour. Vegan burger was horrible. Nice location but a no for food!

Guy at the bar managed to serve us and take our money without once looking at us or acknowledging our existence, instead continuing a conversation with someone else throughout, even when we thanked him there was not a flicker. It was like being served by a particularly ignorant vending machine. No amount of Insta-friendly hanging baskets can make up for rude staff.

I like this pub but I gave it this rating because the experience I had from a worker was disgusting. He was rude, provocative and to be honest a dick.

We were excited to come to this place but we were disappointed with the food. The risotto didn’t have rice (which is the main point of risotto right?) and the mac and cheese didn’t taste at all (something really difficult to find). The salad was good though. I really think the food can be improved a lot in this restaurant

Went with a friend for a dinner at their Grill which is a nice restaurant on the top floor. The atmosphere was great, staff were very friendly and nice, and the food was amazing! And all away from the noise from the pub downstairs so I could have a nice conversation with my friend. We’re definitely coming again!
