Cafe 1001 in Tower Hamlets

Extremely rude bouncer, I was there yesterday he was utterly disrespectful

I am a 21 year old woman who came to the cafe on Tuesday since its “bring your own record” day. I brought my favorite record with me and my friends did as well. I came with my BRP that requires a login from the government website (they use this in airports as an ID to verify my residence in the UK) (basically an EVISA). I was with my friends who all had IDs, I showed him my ID from the government website and he literally told me that all my friends can go in but I have to stay outside because I need the physical ID. The physical ID (BRP) is no longer valid to be used in airports since it’s accessed as an E-Visa which I tried explaining to him but he spoke to me in a very patronising manner. I was so devastated and it was too late to come back and get my passport or any form of physical ID since I live an hour away. He was really disrespectful and did not even want to listen to my explanation. The vibes were off and no one from the staff was willing to help me while he was literally arguing with me for 10 minutes straight. My night is ruined I will never come back here again. I can’t seem to understand why BORDER CONTROL will allow the EVISA with my birthdate and everything while this security guard wouldn’t. Also keep in mind I’ve used my E-VISA 100 places that require ID and they obviously had no issue with it. 0 stars I have never been disrespected in this way before. My friend and I are traveling so today was our only day where we could bring our vinyls. Actually ruined my night his attitude was genuinely horrible.

Great experience overall - service was great and the food was really good in general. The steamed milk on my cappuccino wasn’t great, and the toilets aren’t pleasant. The music was super nice and created a good atmosphere - it was a bit too loud in the beginning, but ended up being fine. Wish I could rate 4 stars, as the stuff mentioned is easily fixable and the atmosphere is super nice with sweet staff

lovely cafe spot right off of brick lane! the staff is super friendly and they provide great service whether its for their food or wonderful cocktail menus in the evening! additionally this place is connected to the pizza place next door and the tap rooms two doors down so there truly is something here for everyone! cant wait to come back

I just happened upon this place on my way to Rough Trade records. Cafe 1001, it's a very cool place to have a bite and they have really cool stereo place upstairs food is great service is great what can I say it's a great place!

Top service and excellent foods

The atmosphere of the place is incredible. It can get crowded but you should definitely go. We stayed there with friends for coffee but you can also get food and even cocktails in the evening. The decoration is superb and it’s a very cool place in general. I will come back !!

A great, cosy cafe in an artistic area! Delicious tea and pastry (and in a very decent price!). A lot of space, we did not need earlier reservation to get in. Free wifi, clean bathroom and live music (not too loud though!) :)

It’s good food but I did not have a good experience sadly. Ordered porridge and it took 1h30 to be made. My friend’s food never came so he didn’t eat.. Had to pay a “service charge” as well, what service? Lol. Pretty unfortunate as it’s a cute place with nice meals

Came on a Tuesday which was a bring your own vinyl night, such a great incentive for people to branch out their music taste with the wide variety of genres that will play. Everyone here is very friendly which is even more welcoming, a very nice atmosphere to sit and chat with friends. Ordered a coffee which was a little bit on the bitter side but the music made up for it! A great evening out, will definitely make this a regular spot to kick back

A bouncer named Sam was extremely rude and unhelpful. Another woman and man were very helpful and kind however Sam was extremely unfriendly and dismissive

"support your local brewries" please start making good beer, you can't make shitty beer AND make it expensive. love the music tho!

I didn't try the food here but this place is a great vibe. The lounge upstairs is so cozy. I love it.

Nice environment and great Drinks. They have dj in the evening a nice dancing floors upstairs. Cristian at the bar made the most amazing old fashioned. Music was a lot of fun with Lemny and Dominic playing on Saturday.

I visited first time last Saturday with 5 friends of mine, it was a disaster and I felt embarrassed. The staff was quite lost and Leo (if he gave me his real name) was SOOOO RUDE and has 0 customer service! Such shame. I won’t come back and I do not suggest this place.

Great vibe here. Came for breakfast. Very friendly and efficient service. Set four, set three, porridge with a side of eggs and sausage. All was excellent.

The atmosphere is pleasant with a little jazzy music to relax after a long stroll through London and the surrounding streets. The matcha latte is tasty. The cakes and pastries are overpriced, however. The service is relatively quick and they are welcoming. I have a very pleasant experience.

Such a shame because I had hopes for this place based on other reviews. We got there and it took them 15/20 minutes to even ask us for drinks. We gave our order for food as well as drinks at that point. They brought out half our drinks order and then food took 35 minutes to arrive from when we placed our order. The food itself was very average. We got the set menu 4 (saag eggs with toast). Saag was okay, nothing special. Eggs were cooked through (no runny yolk sadly). For how long it took and then for what it was, we weren’t happy. The vibes are nice but I’d recommend this place for a coffee and pastry, not much else

My Wife and me were in London for a couple of nights . We were staying very near to Brick Lane. We discovered Cafe 1001 today when we were looking for a place to have breakfast. What an amazing place. The food the atmosphere the staff the sounds. Don’t pass this place by. Chilled friendly atmosphere with great food and such good energy. Craig and Christina from Scotland. Funky and fun space, with great food and atmosphere. DJs play chilled music throughout the day, and the team are really lovely. Iulia and team were a super stars at sorting my order when there was a mix up.

Look I’ve been here before and it’s been amazing, but this time - I went for brunch and had the worst food poisoning in a long while. I’m not sure what it was, maybe the hashbrown? But my guy get that to how it was before, because these squared potatoes got something funky going on since I’m still suffering. Anyway great vibe inside yeah

Service lovely, atmosphere great. Coffee was delicious but was not accurate to coffee standards of an4/6oz cortado. Not sure if I distracted the chap making it but it was a little foamy too.

Quite expensive for what it is and the atmosphere can be hit or miss. Had the worst martini of my life here once which is a feat in itself - so expect the basics ie. PBRs (for my American friends) and Smirnoff vodka. The secret recipe olives kind of hit tho and the location is fire

We were down London for the night. Went to brick lane for breakfast. Found cafe 1001 as there was seating outdoors in what seems like an area without too many outdoor eating areas. The service was very good with enthusiastic and polite staff. The breakfast “set 1” were very tasty, especially the eggs and toast. I even ate the on the vine tomatoes which I usually skip as I don’t really like tomatoes and they were lovely. A nice relaxed environment in a very busy area, highly recommended.

Really nice staff and food, but they need a bit more training on sequence of service - I sat down, waited 15 minutes - then walked to the bar - no one served me for a while - then when I then ordered, the food didn't arrive... It's a shame because it's a great vibe otherwise.

Cafe 1001 is cool, like old-school cool. Not just in the hip, relevent, millenial way, but it has the feel reminiscent of my days bumming around Seattle when I was a fine young thing. So what am talking about my friends is, vibe. If ever there was a place with a vibe Cafe 1001 has it in spades. I love things that do double duty, like a Murphy bed. Sometimes such things can fall flat on their faces--like the mullet (ain't nobody ever going to convince me that a mullet is any kind of good stylistic choice, I grew up in the Land of the Mullet). But in the case of Cafe 1001 it's a place that does double-duty as a coffee shop and a local musical space, and like the the former Sit 'n' Spin in Seattle (laundromat and music venue) I am down with that. The interior is comfortable and features some cool artwork on the walls. It was a chill hangout and it would be a great place to hang with your friends, pretend to work on your laptop, smooch with your sweetie, or write the next great novel. In any case, drop by and enjoy some coffee or some great local tunes.

Great, artsy, funky little cafe just off the main tourists paths that makes great espresso drinks, spritzers, pastries and tasty breakfast. I had the chorizo and eggs on sour dough with an Americano. I followed that with carrot cake with tea. Service is almost instant and the staff are super friendly. Indoor and outdoor seating. Loved it.

It would be helpful if you could easily lend me the toilet!!

This cafe/bar is brilliant for both studying/working and/or for chilling and enjoying a drink. The DJ and staff were super friendly. The food and drinks were great.

Really nice café, apart from the fact that you have to queue for five hours and then are expected to pay an obligatory service charge on top of that, without being asked. The snotty woman at the bar was also extremely awful.

Only marked down because of the ridiculous 12.5 per cent service charge that is automatically added (without consent) when you actually have to queue up to make your order. I haven’t even had a chance to try the food or enjoy any service before being forced into tipping. Very silly indeed…

Whether it’s day or night, this place bangs! Always come here for a coffee, juice or snack from the deli counter whilst I’m on the go. Love having brunch here if i’m in Shoreditch shopping for the day. Plus a great spot to go for cocktails and delicious sleazy pizza. Super lovely staff and great DJs every time :)

Reviewing things can be tedious. Anyway, here is my review. Cafe 1001 is pretty alright. Id go here if you want to feel pretty alright too. Hell, the beer is great. That's a bonus. So like go here frequently. That'd be alright.

I decided to study here last Monday afternoon after I saw it was a good place for it. I only had a couple of coffees and a slice of the apple crumb cake but boyyyyyy was that enough to tell me the quality of food was top! Next time I’ll probably order food food, because every plate that went past me looked great. I ordered at the bar and the staff were so friendly and made me feel comfortable which sometimes isn’t the standard for some cafes in the city. The atmosphere is perfect for studying, catching up with friends or even having a few drinks. Just a great all round vibe and I look forward to going back!

Rude staff. My family and I were completely ignored. We were in queue with takeaway drinks to check out. Treated as if we were invisible. If you’re in the area, I recommend you avoid this place.

What a good find. English breakfast can be very hit and miss and often overpriced. Given the location this was good value and very tasty ingredients served in a modern setting. Ni e music, a good overall vibe.

We had made a reservation here for breakfast (which wouldn't have been necessary) and had a lovely morning. The food was delicious and typically English. The shop is housed in an old factory with high ceilings and is in the middle of Brick Lane. The shop is wheelchair accessible, at least downstairs.
