Having eaten here for both breakfast and dinner I have to say it is really decent food for a mid range hotel. The selection at breakfast is vast and fresh, the new evening menu has a good selection of tasty meals. I tasted the ceasar salad which came without anchovies as advertised however was tasty and fresh. The chunky chips were delicious and some of the best I have eaten. I also had the focaccia and the tagliatelle pasta which again was tasty and fresh. A big applause for the chef. Whatever she/he does they do it well and deserve a shout out on here.

Not a great deal of choices but that didn't matter. The food was delicious and plentiful. The starter chicken wings and kofta kebabs were tasty and more than big enough for a starter. My carbornara with mushrooms, chicken and bacon was huge. Very rich and delicious again. I never leave /waste food but I really couldn't manage it all and definitely no room for a dessert. On our 2nd night I will miss out the starter and go for dessert instead. A very enjoyable meal. Would recommend

We have been here many times before & have always enjoyed our meal & the service we have received. So having not been out for a meal due to the covid situation for months & months We decided to book here due to past positive experiences. On arrival the place was empty, no tables were set, restaurant did not look like it was open at all. All we could here was loud voices coming from the back of the restaurant (of which turned out to be staff sitting around talking). We stood near the booking in till, waiting & waiting when eventually the receptionist radioed someone to tell them we were there. He came down & I said we had booked a table, he had a look & said there was no booking. He then took us through & asked where we would like to sit. He then asked us what we would like to drink, this took a good 10 mins to come, it was only a lager shandy & cappuccino. We ordered a rump steak, mixed grill, 2 pepper corn sauces & home made garlic bread. This took over 40 mins to arrive. In waiting we were not offered any more drinks. The food came, the sauce had skin forming on it, the mixed grill was missing some items from it & was very poor & looked like it had been dumped on the plate. The rump steak was disgusting, it was full of fat, not cut even so was extremely bloody in parts & I had eaten half of my meal before my garlic bread came of which I had to remind them of & this was definitely not home made. The size of the meals for the price was diabolical. I can't believe this food was cooked by a professional chef, I could have cooked a better meal myself & brought better meat from Morrisons. This meal & drinks cost just under £63, I did complain but to be honest I don't think he was that interested. He was more concerned about payment being made by card. He did at this point tell us that he did find our booking, he had looked at the wrong day!! Will I be going again, definitely not, never again. We was so looking forward to this trip out of which was a total disaster right from the start.

We were staying at the hotel and only arrived at 8.00pm so it was convenient to eat in this restaurant. We were seated and given menus quickly but it was all down hill after that. We had to call the staff over to order drinks despite saying how thirsty we were when we arrived and waited ages for the food to arrive. The chilli prawns came without sauce, which was added but then my husband's prawns were only half cooked and my salad was gritty. I mentioned it to the staff and was told that she would inform the kitchen. We both had chicken and chips next, my husband's was dry and tasteless, mine was a little better but my chips were full of black areas, looking awful and not at all appertising. We decided to finish with liqueur coffees, our waitress said she didn't know how to make these but found a colleague who did. We wanted cointreau but they only had whiskey, a poor state of affairs for such a large chain and the icing on the cake after such an unpleasant meal.

My husband opted for fish, chips and mushy peas. I must say the meals were both delicious and the chunky chips were the best we have ever tasted (and we have eaten many I can add). Could not fault and along with a glass of wine, a really lovely evening meal.

I was staying at the ceder Court last Sunday, for dinner my family decided to have the carvery for our evening dinner, so the kitchen staff arranged for us to have the the carvery a bit later and offered to serve us everything on there afternoon buffet fresh when we wanted it. It was incredible, we went for dinner at 6pm,just the 4 of us, me, my wife, my dad and my sister, they served us, soup, loads of starters, an amazing roast dinner, then a fantastic selection of deserts. There was enough food to feed 10 people. All this was done by the staff, just because they wanted us to enjoy our stay, there was no extra charge made just the normal price of our evening meal, that was included in our booking price. It really was the best hotel meal I have ever had. Served with a happy smile, by the best, most helpful team of staff, we have had the pleasure to meet. We'll done to all of you. I was last person to right review in April 2017 saying what a great fantastic Sunday lunch. We'll haven't things changed totally went on 9.1218 totally rude UNACCOMODATING staff. Went for Sunday lunch on tastecard, they had a carvery going told couldn't use that Xmas special fair enough. When sat down asked for a prawn cocktail which we've had over last several years only to get told can't do it, they haven't got ingredience. Sorry what a load of false information there were prawns and lettuce around carvery area. I'm sure they have tomato sauce and bread butter as well. Next thing on menu was half a roast chicken which used to come with pigs in blankets roasts vegetables gravy. This menu in December was half roast chicken salad and new potatoes. Sorry who wants salad in December on a cold day so just asked if could have vegetables instead. Reply was unfortunately no. Thought well they have all vegetables there on carvery. Why couldn't they accomodate with that? At that point I asked to speak to manager. The lady's reply is i'am manager her name was joanna to be honest her accent was quite difficult to understand and felt this lady wasn't a accommodating or Steyning at all, so I asked for hotel manager please. After about 20 mins he came he was a young guy called callum. His only response was she's restaurant manager its at her discretion what she does. I did explain she's unfriendly unhelpful and I struggle to understand her. Really he wasn't bothered lack of interest. All he did was back her. I said you've got a carvery can't they serve those vegetables up. His reply can't as vegetables have been in kitchen 25 minutes and can't serve. What a load of rubbish yet again. Come on how long had they been standing on carvery?. I did explain friend had terminal cancer and just needed mash vegetables with half chicken no interest empathy or understanding. Is this really way to trey clientele who's visited place for several years absolutely disgusting? Half chicken arrived about 40 mins later cabbage mash told we had to pay extra for vegetables so agreed. Few carrots as well. But no gravy at all. So I asked for gravy to go with meal told extra pound. Agreed as meal were so dry. Absolutely terrible way we were treated. Then came to sweet asked for chocolate sundae sorry haven't got it. At that point we thought we would get a ice cream from mc Donald's . In past restaurant staff have always been polite accommodating and said if there's anything you want if have ingredience will do it. Unfortunately we seem to get Joanna manager serving us and attitude towards customers have changed. This restaurant in December had 3 people in it. Obviously the attitudes of so called management is reflected in the numbers, if it wasn't for hotel the Restaurant would be shut. Its only the hotel subsidising restaurant. A hotel of this standard cannot find friendly professional accommodating staff who you can converse with. We'll that's why it's empty. Manager of hotel needs to put this lady on a customer service course and also maybe English language course. Sorry hotel as gone down hill. Reshuffle staff around. I don't really want this manager serving us again if we ever go again a big if. Shame because place was good. Keep changi g menus dosnt help. Regular clientelle get used to certain things on menus. They should think who's paying their wages when restaurant is dead and noone in and show a little respect.

We didn’t actually end up booking because of how rude the staff member was over the phone! We wanted an afternoon tea for an adult and for a child. I was stupid enough to ask what came with the child’s afternoon tea and the staff member scoffed at me saying “well you should have booked this before....we expect you to book in advance”. I explained that I was sadly lacking the necessary psychic ability to know this. Then she went off to ask in the kitchen and returned and shouted down the phone at me what it includes (milkshake, sandwich, treats and a scone), then started ranting about how nobody had told them about this going on as it had just started this week. I actually had afternoon tea there 3 weeks ago, which was lovely, so I told her that they had. Queue further shouting, interrupting and talking over the top of me. “We’ve only got two and four on” -whatever that means! I asked to speak to a manager .... unfortunately she forgot to put the phone in mute, mocked me, laughed about me and laughing about upsetting me (the manager joining in and not asking the staff member to quieten down!). I spoke to the manager and told her what had gone on before pointing out the lack of use of the mute button....she went suspiciously quiet...probably knowing I’d heard her responses. She said that the other staff member was shouting because the restaurant was loud....I pointed out that as the manager wasn’t shouting, the other person didn’t need to shout and it might be loud there, but it’s not loud at my home! I’ve asked for the senior manager to call me....nothing so far - make if that what you will!

Part of the Cedar Court Hotel. Was curious what the '54' stood for and can only conclude after snail-pace service it's the number of minutes you'll wait for each course. After the wait a grand total of 2 chicken goujons turned up for the starter (good spicy dip). And (eventually) the curry main arrived which was explained as being delayed because they had "a big table of 6 who ordered starters and mains" - so if you turn up and you see 6 more people in the place I would recommend you don't bother. Worth wait? Of course not.Handy if in the hotel and too tired to nip out. Next time (if there is one) I will drink an energy drink to get the energy to go out.

Visited on Mother's Day- we were a table of 7 adults & 2 children. We had to wait around 5 minutes to be seated, we were then shown to our table, while requesting a high chair and giving out drinks order. We were told the only menu available was a 2 course menu for £15.95 which was not explained at time of booking. Orders were taken swiftly, one the party only wanted the main meal and the waitress said this wasn't a problem. Fast forward 15 minutes and we were still waiting for our drinks and no high chair in sight. Starters and drinks then arrived- these were OK. Prawn cocktails were served in a wine glass with lots of brown lettuce. Main meals then arrived- these were poor value for the price- only 3/4 potatoes on each plate with a spoonful of vegetables. 5 minutes after the adults mains had been brought out there was still no sign of the child's meal. We had to flag down staff to ask where this was and it appeared it had been forgotten about. The child's meal finally arrived and was given a quarter of chicken complete with all its bones. After finishing the meal we had to wait 15 minutes before plates were cleared and we were offered the dessert menu. Prices were steep for dessert- £6.25 for a slice of cheesecake. As it was Mother's Day we are agreed we would opt for the deserts.. however we were left with the menus and no sign of staff for 20+ minutes. We therefore gave up! Upon requesting the bill they tried to add £50 extra of charges (charging us for 10 adults when there had only been 7), and the person who only had 1 course had to pay the full £15.95 which had not been explained at time of ordering. All in all, we were all very disappointed with the whole experience and would not recommend.

Seen ham hock on the menu which I really fancied and was a reason I thought I'd give the place a try. As I was seated I was told only a few things were not available by one of the staff and then took my drink order. Another member of staff came for the food order who then decided to tell me there was no ham hock so I asked for a minute so I could have a look at the menu to pick something else. I then over hear the staff talking to the chef who says the ham hock is the worst thing on the menu anyway and the waiter agreed with him and said it isn't good. It was like a ghost town but still took 5 minutes for drinks and I ended up having to go get the bill myself after 10 minutes waiting. This hotel should do well offering business lunches at an easy to reach location but not if you are in any kind of a hurry! They offer you two hours parking after which you need to register your car reg at reception - and if last Friday was anything to go by you probably need to! I sat for 15 mins, in the restaurant Grill 54, without any acknowledgement whatsoever from any staff. My lunch companion arrived and we waited probably another 10 minutes before catching a passing waitress to ask if we needed to order at the bar as nobody was attending to us, told that "we could do" but that she would return to serve us if we wanted. We did! Taking the order for lunchtime specials - Mediterranean Salad - "well we might not have all the stuff for that!" "I'll check". They did.... "Did I want chicken as an addition to the salad?" £6 extra!!! £6 for some shreds of chicken added to a salad? Or would I get a whole chicken? Really, does that sound reasonable? After serving the main course we were basically abandoned again, having to attract attention to get another drink and finally after a long wait to get the bill. Whole thing, one course, plus a drink and coffee took over 2 hours. And without pushing for attention we might still be there!

Possibly and almost probably the worst restaurant meal that I have every had! My portion of fish and chips was just inedible and the fish was no longer than three inches long and steeped in thick batter. The chips were no better and the cost a straight £10.00. I had to find a member of staff to serve me and orders are taken in the bar. Service is slow. There are no redeeming features at all although for those staying in the Cedar Court Hotel - there is a passible English breakfast. Please avoid!

Visited here when passing. Promptly seated and served at a clean if not fantastically lite table, a bit chilly next to the window but was moved on request (no problem). Ordered a drink and food, drink arrived promptly and food not long after. I had one of the burgers with fires and coleslaw. Burger was a bit hard (over cooked) but that was fine, a generous portion of chips. Wheelchair friendly.Nice lounge area with TV (no sound so not sure the relevance)Toilets, spotless. Smokey Joe burger and pint of Becks, £16.80!

Having stayed in many nice establishments around this area, and being a local lad myself, I am extremely disappointed in the lack of service and also they time to prepare food, I could of killed the chicken plucked it and served it quicker.1hr 15 mins, I wouldn't mind if the restaurant was busy but around 20 clients come on.The overall hotel is not too bad but definitely requires a new restaurant manager.Especially at the cost when there is a nice Italian restaurant within walking distance.Grill 54 May as well name it 54 minutes to cook a chicken not impressed.

What a waste of a perfectly fine Sunday afternoon, we came here for a family gathering a 30th anniversary to be precise. Well we ordered the food and 2 hours later 2 of ours still hadn't come. Everyone else had finished eating but much to their disappointment what they asked for wasn't exactly what you got. Misleading menu! Poor service and the food? Pointless you can probably make better at home. Won't be returning.

We booked a last minute night away at the cedar court hotel and so decided to try the restaurant. We booked a table for 7pm and were promptly seated. We ordered a jug of water as well as drinks but the water never arrived. We had a starter each which were both lovely and quite big portions. They took a while to arrive but we were talking and didn't notice. Once our plates were cleared away we were left for an eternity with no drinks and our main meal served at 9.15pm after a very long wait for 2 burgers. Again the food was good but after ordering a second drink as our meals were put in front of us we still had not received them when we had finished our meals. The waitresses were young but pleasant and avoided eye contact knowing how long customers were waiting! The restaurant was not busy and meals seemed to be quick for 1 person and not for others. We probably wouldnt go back even though the food was good!

We decided to give this place a try as we were on our way home on the motorway and I knew they would accept a taste card, so I rang to book. When we arrived the place was almost empty, yet it took 10 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us and book us in. It's quite a big restaurant yet only 2 other tables were taken, but we still had to wait to be seated. The menu is small, but has good choices on, although £19 for a steak, and that being the ONLY option for a steak, is a bit much. I had half a rotisserie chicken, which I expected to be juicy but it was very dry, my son had the steak, which he really enjoyed, and my husband had the smokey joe burger which he also enjoyed. The prices aren't bad, £9 for the half chicken, with fries and coleslaw, but I've had rotisserie chicken and it's always been very juicy and tasty, that wasn't.As I said in my title, I'm glad we tried it, but I doubt I'd go again, and it's a shame it was so empty, on a Sunday tea time!

A friend took me here as a birthday treat so feel awful complaining but need to comment .I am a fan of afternoon teas and most places I've been to do it really well. The sandwiches where fine but the cakes where a strange selection of parkin chocolate marble cake and a flapjack then a piece of baked vanilla cheesecake to me would have been more suited to a winter themed afternoon tea,all really stodgy . The Parkin and marble cake where stale and the cheesecake getting there. The scones where fine. The service was slow and inattentive, We where seated quickly and asked weather we would like tea or coffee but then waited around ten minutes for them to arrive whilst they seated a table of 8 also having afternoon tea and proceeded to serve them both there drinks and food first. No one came to check if everything was ok and I had to go and ask at the bar for another coffee where there where 3 staff and then waited for a while before it arrived. A shame as this Hotel is just up the road from me and was hoping to find somewhere I could return to but I won't be rushing back !

This is probably one of the poorest places for food that I have ever eaten in. I just stopped short of giving it a terrible rating. Having read some of the previous reviews, while there is a response from the staff, it is paying lip service as despite the complaints, nothing actually gets sorted out and the standard does not improve. This is a Friday evening, there are eight people eating which immediately tells you how popular this location is.My wife and I were seated next to a window and the waitress took our drink order. We ordered a bottle of red (merlot) and the waitress returned with a bottle of rose. When we said we had ordered red, this was disputed only for her to return and inform us that she had entered the wrong order into the till and it was indeed her fault. Fine. Apology accepted. But then on the table next to us, a couple had to return their meals as they were not edible. My wife went and asked them what had happened as she had ordered the same choice and was told that the fish was watery, and the chips not cooked. Their meals were replaced with omelettes the comment being by the couple that surely the chef could not mess omelettes up.My wife had ordered the fish and chips and I had ordered the half chicken. When our meals arrived, the fish and chips were presented as a piece of cod sat on half a dozen thick chips. My wife moved the fish off and there were the half a dozen thick chips and they were black. They were burnt. We said to the waitress that the chips were burnt and we were told that they were not as they were triple cooked chips. It was an absolutely ridiculous statement to have made. They were black, hard and looked terrible. And we said that we wanted them replaced. Both of our meals were taken away and then we had to wait a further fifteen minutes before they were returned. It was obvious that we had been fobbed off with left over chips as the replacements looked far better. My meal of chicken was very average. The chicken was dry, and the sauté potatoes were full of liquid with the bad bits of the potatoes having not been cut out. Half of them had crumbled in the dish where they had been overcooked. It really was unacceptable! The only palatable thing we had was the overpriced bottle of merlot at £16 plus.At one point I asked the waitress if the chef was part time and he had another job. I told her that everything was cremated! The menu is limited and the food is overpriced. The quality and standard is well below what should be expected and at best it is a fast food establishment trying to portray itself as a restaurant. It is not a restaurant. I have had better food in normal run of the mill pubs on the high street.Instead of paying lip service to the reviews, it would be better if someone actually took note of what is being said, got a grip of the place, and started producing a good standard of food. I would go as far to say that a proper and experienced team of chefs should be brought in as there seems to be a lack of skills coming from the kitchen.I would definitely not recommend this location. It needs serious attention and it is only going one way if the reviews on this site are constantly ignored!

First and last time at Grill 54 tonight! Burger was so pink in the middle that it was really off putting and so didn't finish. When the waitress asked whether everything was ok, we told her that the burgers were too pink for us and she replied with 'that's how they're normally served so next time you should tell us you want it more well done'.. Right ok that's brilliant but it doesn't say that on the menu and I'm not a mind reader so it would have been nice to be asked how I wanted my burger cooked! Then when the bill came, there was a rogue £1.50 cheese charge on there. According to a different waitress, it was for the cheese on the burger (which had cheese included). She was adamant but checked the menu anyway and then came back with a bill £1.50 less so obviously we didn't need to pay for extra cheese. Won't be going back, really wasn't worth the £30+, only thing I enjoyed was my glass of coke.

We were wanting to try Grill 54 as we have recently moved to the area and we like to eat out locally. We were seated next to the large windows which was a bit uncomfortable considering there was a huge group of school children having their prom pictures taken in the area just outside there. Not the best feeling being glared at and pointed at whilst trying to have a quiet meal - we did move in the end.The selection of food on the menu is very limited. My partner opted for a burger and I ordered the fish and chips. The chips with the fish and chips were delicious but the mushy peas were rock hard and dry and my partners brioche bun was so stale it just crumbled. My partner also asked for the burger to have no tomatoes and it looked like it came with extra tomatoes. There is also no drinks menu - which I find a bit strange? Overall it was very average. We came on the recommendation from friends who have their breakfast here regularly and say how good it is. Unfortunately maybe we had a one off experience.

I have reviewed this before years ago and Grimm but they have their act together now and that is only fair to give a balanced view. Tasty meals or brunches or even a starter or soup just right. Last time the manager suggested I had never been there from my comments. Perhaps this time my comments might result in a better comment back as both are an accurate expression of how we felt. Well done for improvement.

Had both lunch and dinner, the menu is rather limited. Selected a pasta (penne) with pesto, cream and grilled chicken. The pasta arrived, the chicken came minutes later separate. Only fragments of pesto found in a cream-like liquid. My colleague ordered the same meal the next day for dinner, he did not get chicken at all. When after minutes he asked the waiter, he was told the chicken was there in the pasta!!! Some min later (when the pasta was already cold) he brought some slices of chicken, saying the chef apologized (he did not) for that he forgot the chicken.

Stayed at the Cedar Court Hotel, our meal was included in the package, nice restaurant. I enjoyed my choices but my friend was not impressed. Meaning to go since it opened and eventually we did, loads of choice and everything we had was delicious! Very quiet when we went and if this place was located in or near the town centre and not in a hotel it would be constantly busy I am sure. The staff are pleasant and work with a smile, Looking forward to going again keep up the good work.

This restaurant is within the Cedar Lodge Hotel. There's a good varied menu (rotisserie chicken 1/4s and 1/2s, burgers, chilli, curry). We all enjoyed the food we ate and found there to be plenty of it. We did wait a little while, but not ages (certainly not the point that I was thinking of chasing) and when delivered the waitress politely offered the chef's apologies for the delay.

Attended with my wife and daughter on bank holiday Sunday. Didn't book a table but wasn't required as it was not busy with maybe 6 tables in total eating. Drinks orders taken instantly and waitress then took food orders five minutes after. Unfortunately the we had an hours wait for our food. After 45 minutes i had spoken to the waitress who explained that they were short staffed. Only one chef and two staff doing all food orders, clearing tables, etc. When the meals did arrive they were really nice, highly recommend the smokey joe burger. we would come back again as we did enjoy the meal but hopefully they'll have more staff on to avoid these delays. one other criticism would be that the floor around the tables was dirty with food from earlier diners, this should be cleaned.

My son and his girlfriend brought me here for a birthday treat. We booked, greeted well and shown to a nice table. We ordered drinks but had to wait ages to be served them. We also had a very long wait for the main meal with no apologies and we saw other people being served ahead of us. My veggie burger was awful had to leave half of it, my sons mixed grill and his girlfriends chilli was fine. My pecan pie was lovely.

My wife won "Dinner for 2" at Grill [54] in a pre-Christmas draw. Cedar Court is 25 miles from home so we made a special trip for lunch on a Friday. We weren't disappointed. The restaurant wasn't busy so there was plenty of space. The dining area is well furnished, clean and tidy. I had a starter (olives, oil and bread) and a Rump Steak. My wife had a ¼ Chicken and a lovely chocolate brownie dessert. The rump steak was just as I like it, medium rare and nice and tender. The chicken was good, tender and tasty and the dessert just big enough for 2 to share.A very pleasant meal.I've given "Excellent" value for money because it cost us nothing! One downside - finding the car park. The hotel and restaurant are just off a big roundabout. Plenty of promo posters but no direction signs. We made the mistake of going down the right hand side of the place, onto a dual carriageway bypass and finished up almost in Halifax! BEWARE - from the roundabout take the A643 signposted Rochdale and then 1st right into the car park.

We went to Grill 54 on a Sunday afternoon and it was extremely quiet. The staff were polite but lacked attention to detail - for example the lady who sat us down and took our order offered us a jug of water for the table but never actually brought it.I was impressed with my burger and my husband had the mixed grill. Mine looked awesome but sadly I thought it was average in taste. My husband enjoyed his grill but said there wasn't much to the chicken wings.Liked the decor (and the branding on the burger!!) but there were only about 4 tables in use in the whole restaurant. We ended up being the only ones in our seating "zone" when the other couple left. Surprising for a Sunday afternoon when I'd have thought it would be at it's busiest.Overall it was an OK visit but nothing special. It's worth going if you want a change of scenery, but the service could do with being fine tuned.

just treated my mum to afternoon tea for two in Grill 54 at Cedar Court Ainley Top. It was distinctively average. No effort had been made to celebrate our Majesty's birthday for a start. The sandwich bread was not as fresh as it should be, the tiny scones were dry and look shop bought and although jam and cream was provided there was no butter. A good choice of cakes but the brownie was very dry and no cupcakes which I expected. It was ok but I wouldnt go back

We used to go all the time 6-7yrs back, but the quality has just steadily gone downhill and downhill, and now there's been a change of ownership (Autumn 2024) I hoped there'd be improvements.. tbh it's worse. Table service this evening was a joke, 3 couples who arrived after us having paid and gone by the time we finally had our mains presented. I had the chicken peppercorn thing, just overcooked rubbery chicken, no seasoning, lazy mash potato, and a packet sauce, or at least that's what it felt like - tonight was the last time I'll go..
