Grill 23 And Bar in East Lindsey

This is a first class steak house. The food is terrific. The wine list is long, and so too is the spirits list, with top wines and spirits available. Service is friendly and attentive. One clear negative: Grill 23 is extremely loud. Conversation can be tough, especially for large groups.

On a Sunday night, you just don’t cancel a 9pm dinner reservation 30 minutes before it occurs ! That unconsiderate for your potential clients!! Then why do you accept reservations!?

In my opinion, this restaurant is severely overrated. First, it's far too loud. On a Thursday at 9pm, the restaurant was completely packed and you had to scream to communicate. Second, the menu is relatively basic and did not offer much by way of gluten free aside from the salad, some of the seafood, the steak (of course), and a few of the sides. No gluten free bread or the option to get some of the potato dishes (they need a separate fryer). Third, the clientele was really all over the place. There was a many screaming about something as he left who smelled awful. There were escorts in at the hostess stand with their pimp when we left. No one was dressed appropriately. Our waiter was decent, but no special touches like putting your napkin on your lap. Instead, I felt rushed. This is a very expensive steakhouse, and I would skip it.

Grill 23 deserves 5 or more stars for being a consistently excellent restaurant spanning decades, including its exemplary service. It's a Boston institution and deservedly so. Anything negative at the bottom of this review is more than canceled out by how wonderful it is. We have been coming here intermittently for 30+ years. The food and service have been consistent every single time. The twist this visit is we had an ANCIENT gift certificate that Matt was kind enough to honor (we checked in advance). He and our terrific server Ryan made it easy and low-stress. There is no better martini in a frosty ice/slush-enrobed glass with icy chips in it. Inventive and delicious cocktails. Thoughtfully constructed and imagined appetizers. And of course, steaks. Huge portions (the side dishes in particular). All prepared to perfection. I always get the filet. The prices are a bit challenging but I haven't done comparisons recently. But again, the portions are generous. The other 2 things to consider are that it is pretty loud--it's a big restaurant with closely-spaced tables and a lively bar scene, and, lastly, I am not sure what I expected really--it's Boston--but for a restaurant of this caliber, I think I expected that people would dress more respectfully. The table of guys in closely fitted suits and Hermes belts stood out among what felt like a sea of casual wear...lots of sneakers, jeans, hoodies, golf shirts. Will any of this deter me from returning, no, but it just feels like this is a special place and deserves to be recognized as such.

We took a chance and made a dinner reservation based on review rankings, and it lived up to it's reputation. Great atmosphere, lively but not noisy. Very attentive wait staff, that make you feel like they value you being there. Typical top-tier steak selection, we had dry aged NY strip and filet and both were cooked to temp perfectly and as good as we've had anywhere. Had never had pave style potatoes before this visit, but highly recommend it now. Grill 23 is now on our list of top steakhouses we've found in travels around the country.

I'm a resident of nearby Beacon Hill. I begun visiting Grille 23 & Bar a couple of months ago & have returned 2--3 times per week ever since. This place is fantastic & great for after-work relaxation. When the rainbow colored ties were worn, there was in immediate sense of safety. I knew that this is the place for me. Adam, Ryan, & Sevan provide top-notch service. Hugo is a master wine guy and seems to know everything about it. Hugo is attentive and even approached me at the bar and talked to me. The clientele is high standard & I've had enlightening conversations. Made new friends along the way. Recommend the Prime Meatloaf paired with Chateau Fontanes Cabernet Sauvignon. Thanks Grille 23 for never ceasing to impress me. 👍

Grill 23 has been around for decades. It is a classic. Food wise it clearly is the best steak house in Boston. I went there for my anniversary. The server Ryan was excellent. I had the dry aged sirloin Pittsburgh and my wife had a baked stuffed lobster. Both were excellent. The appetizers, sides and deserts were also excellent. The dining room had a buzz to it. Where Grill 23 falls short is the dress code. A number of guys had shorts on. I get it - in this day and age many Americans do not know how to dress and standards have been lowered. BUT there must be minimum standards. People wearing shorts in Grill 23 demeans the restaurant. Where is the class??? Enforce a minimum dress code. If it means turning people away turn them away.

People had been raving about this place to us for years. We are not strangers to good steak but just hadn’t been able to get there. So finally for my husbands birthday we decided to make it happen. Made reservations on open table with a note of the celebration and a seating preference . Checked in and was happy the host acknowledged they saw the note and seated us promptly (that said it was only 530). However this was followed by a few disappointments. The menu was already very limited. Then there was only one special being offered which was shellfish. We ordered a $150 porterhouse and a $90 ribeye both steaks were cooked appropriately but def no wow factor we also ordered two sides not worth discussing. We also each had 2 drinks old fashions for my husband wine for me. They were sweet to acknowledge the occasion of my husband’s birthday with a scoop of vanilla ice scream and sprinkles ??? Anyway From the minute we sat down to the minute we left we felt rushed PERIOD. We checked in at 530 and called the Uber at 635. And essentially were being asked to leave by 625. Unfortunately Not worth the 400+ bucks!

Food was not worth the money the filet was very good however . 19 for a baked potato a little much. We sent back the burnt soggy much rooms as well as one of the 7 sauces ( it was tiny) the place was packed with millennials . Couldn’t hear your self think. 170 for a steak ?? I know this is a very popular steak spot, and my review is contrarian. I had dinner here with two buddies. I had not been here before, but heard about it often. The wait staff was great, and I liked the atmosphere. A traditional nic3 restaurant. The problem was the food. I had a New York strip and it was frankly awful. Tough from end to end, dennys style but at 100 per plate. I’d like to see the place continue to do well, so I think it’s important for them to hear this.

We celebrated my wife’s birthday in Boston and had a great evening. It’s a wonderful steakhouse - somewhat loud, drinks flowing, comfortable chairs and benches, and the food - incredible. We had a corner table that we shared a comfortable couch and had a view of most of the upstairs. The lower level tables beneath the stairs, looked like nice seating as well but we were happy to be going up. Food was amazing. Steaks cooked to perfection. Dry aged strip was so flavorful and the filet for my wife was actually on the large side. I’d recommend going light on the sides. They are huge! Enough for 3-4 people (maybe)! We went light on dessert and had the ice cream and sherbet which was awesome. As a side bar, the wine list is impressive and one that requires a while to consume. It’s a 1 inch think tomb of amazing wines and their collection is vast. This all comes at a premium cost and be prepared to drop some coin. But so worth it and we’ll be returning!

Celebrated NYE at Grill 23. It was lively and festive. Food and service was great. There was a fun band and plenty of dancing. Recommend any time of year.

First off, it’s beautiful inside. Very warm and inviting. We headed to the bar and had the most amazing ice-rimmed Manhattan to start. We had a delicious filet and lobster tail with delicious and ample sides. The service impeccable. Just divine. Would highly recommend.

We have been coming here for a decade and it continues to be the best. While the food is amazing, it is the beauty and history of the place that set it apart. Located in the old Salada Tea Building, it has a vaulted ceiling with Greco-Roman columns and there are almost 40 years of feasts, celebrations and good times embedded in the walls of this institution, which is a living breathing museum that allows us to dine in the Boston of the 1920s. If you have any appreciation for steak, its trimmings and history, head here immediately upon arrival in the city!
