Greyhound Inn in East Devon

Visited for lunch in June 2024. As always the food was excellent and the service was perfect. Highly recommended and will definetly be back soon.

Popped in for a roast on the way back home to Cornwall. Made to feel very welcome, especially dog friendly, roast was top dollar, staff were exceptional, would travel up from Cornwall just for their roast!

When my family visit we always eat here and have had a great experience but today was very disappointing and we would never visit again. Both the main restaurant manager and owner were unwelcoming and clearly didn’t want our custom. As usual I tried to book for the 10 of us and was told they do not do tables if 10 so I booked a table if 6 and my daughter booked a table of 4. When we arrived the table of 6 was at one end of the restaurant and the table of 4 was right at the other end. There was an empty table of 4 close by so I politely asked if my daughter could move there. I was told we don’t change tables around and I told you on the phone we don’t do tables of 10 - very rudely. When I spoke with the owner about the rudeness - he was not concerned at all about customer service. He said she thought I was trying to play the system. Also, We are dog owners and throughout our meal a dog barked continuously. The owners response was we are a dog-friendly pub. I said that’s lovely but I would expect my dog to behave so everyone could enjoy lunch. A very unwelcoming place.

I can only say we had a very unwelcoming greeting from the bar staff who put us on a table by the door in a corridor, not in the restaurant or bar area. There were tables vacant in the bar area and people after us , that also hadn't booked were offered these. Anyway, we did move after I had asked. Incidentally there was still one table in the bar area . The fish and chips were very average and underwhelming. Finished our meal and left and as you would expect , no goodbye on our departure from anyone!

This place is amazing ... we have never had any complaints with either the food or the staff ... It's become our "go-to" venue. The food is excellent, and the menu changes regularly, so I would recommend everything. They have an extensive gluten-free menu, and the deserts are all hand-made and to die for. The staff are friendly and attentive, but they don't keep bothering you. It's not the cheapest, if you want excellent food and surroundings it's worth every penny.

My Wife and I were welcomed by friendly staff to our pre booked table, I had the Sirloin Steak and it was cooked to my choice. My Wife had the Truffled chicken breast absolutely delicious was the wife’s comment , followed by Sticky toffee pudding. It was our first visit but we will definitely return soon

Fabulous Find Passed this pub a while ago whilst travelling back and wanted to come .. booked Sunday lunch last weekend and new it was going to be good From the staff to the food .. all was excellent.. the best we have had …. Lovely that they don’t like your meat I top of roasties too and delicious veg cauliflower cheese and leeks in sauce yum … So lovely that they phoned is the day before to ask what roast we wanted as we were second sitting so that they did not run out We shall be back time and time again A fabulous find …

We visited for Sunday lunch after checking out reviews. We definitely weren’t disappointed! We both chose roast beef which arrived with broccoli, a huge Yorkshire pud and lovely roast potatoes. We were also served cauliflower cheese, little roasted root veg, carrots, mange tout, sweetcorn and delicious gravy. The beef melted! We did just about manage to squeeze a dessert in. I had raspberry & white chocolate trifle, which was to die for. My husband had his favourite, sticky toffee pud. He announced that it was the best he has ever had! Staff were very friendly and there was a lovely atmosphere in which to enjoy such fabulous food. Excellent charge too.

We have been going to this restaurant for a long time I normally finish my meal with a Cheese Board. When I first started having the Cheeseboard, it was good quality individual cheese biscuits. In the last few months they have given me cheaper cheese biscuits I take it to save money ! I would sooner pay more for better quality biscuits

Visited The Greyhound today for birthday lunch..had a really lovely time, excellent menu choices and everyone enjoyed their meal..served hot and fresh. The service was lovely too..would not hesitate to return to this lovely pub

we had dinner and drink the atmosphere was really good, staff were friendly, we both had the pie of the day, lamb, chorizo and oregano. the pie had way to much salt in, the rest of the meal was fine and gravy was really good. just let down by the amount of salt in pie

As always superb, the food was to die for and each mouth full was a delight. Young serving staff also excellent with a particular 'Thank You' to Alexander!

Lovely dinner in the bar on a Saturday night - fish special gurnard with samphire - and really good English breakfast in the morning. Room compact, clean comfortable and nice bathroom.

This was our second visit to this lovely country gem. We have our daughter nearby we regularly come to visit, and this time for an early Christmas together with our other children. Rooms, food, staff and owners all top notch - couldn't be more hospitable or friendly. Being in the hospitality industry ourselves we totally appreciate this. We will return again, thanks John and Ellen !!

Our visit was for dinner, an overnight stay and breakfast, to celebrate my husband’s birthday. We found a lovely welcome, excellent food, well kept beer and great service. We did have a little issue with our accommodation but I have to say the customer service was first rate, with a prompt response/resolution. I’d say that you can’t ask for more. Lastly I’d like to say that it’s thoroughly cleaned too; a definite plus in my book. We are very much looking forward to our next visit and have already recommended this place to friends and family.

Our annual stay at a nearby chain hotel was not possible this year because of a refurbishment and what a stroke of luck because it enabled us to discover the wonderful Greyhound Inn. For the same price we enjoyed a lovely beautifully decorated room with a fabulous view instead of a bland generic room with a view over the car park, A fabulous cozy restaurant with amazing food instead of a brightly lit airport lounge style restaurant, and finally an amazing cooked to order breakfast delivered to our table instead of a slightly overcooked buffet breakfast. We have found our new annual overnight stop!

We stayed here on our way home from holiday. The whole experience was excellent. Starting off with a gin and tonic, a great selection of gins. We had scallops as a starter, cooked to perfection, followed by the venison, which was delicious. Good selection of wine as well. Staff were lovely, friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. The atmosphere in the restaurant was cosy and comfortable, with discreet lighting. Thoroughly recommended, will definitely stop again on our way West.

We stopped for a bite of lunch en route to Cornwall. Very friendly and attentive staff and - rare these days - food produced without a lengthy delay. We had Chicken Caesar Salad and Ham, Eggs and Chips, both good. Nice choice of desserts. The ice creams are delicious. All well presented and reasonably priced. We stopped there again on our return journey two weeks later.

We chanced upon this pub while on holiday in the area. We hadn't booked a table as it was a dreary Thursday evening - but actually I think we were lucky to get a table. Always a good sign to see a pub busy on a week night. We were given a warm welcome and the serving staff were polite and helpful. Food arrived in good time and was delicious. We were also tempted to a dessert which was fab. Couldn't fault this place

Myself and my partner took my mum out for Sunday lunch to the greyhound today. We had a lovely table by the fire, it was a nice cosy atmosphere. Staff were very friendly and attentive. We were called earlier in the morning to see if we wanted to complete a pre order which we did. We ordered our drinks which came promptly and not long after our food arrived. The portions were great and it was nice to have all the veg individually served so you could choose what you wanted. Had the cauliflower cheese on the side and it was gorgeous. Really impressed very tasty food. Will definitely return!

We went on the basis of the reviews on here and were very disappointed. The food here was very average pub standard. I had ham egg and chips but the ham was the sort of stuff you get out of a supermarket packet, not at all what I had expected on the basis of the reviews. It's OK if all you want is very average pub food but otherwise...

Had lunch there today, our first visit for quite a while. Absolutely excellent. We are regulars at the Hare and Hounds just down the road but for attentive table service it will be the Greyhound from now on....

Nothing on the menue for vegans...except a hummus starter and sorbets. However they offered to make me what I wanted if they were told in advance. I asked for fried tofu in peanut sauce, asparagus and new potatoes. I got fried tofu in a tasteless peanut sauce, no asparagus replaced by other vegetables and new potatoes. For an eaterie that is quite glossy, I found this disappointing. I dont expect haute cuisine in a pub, but it is very rare to find no mains for a vegan....no vegan burger, vegan sausage and mash. And to offer vegan sorbets is such a standard fare...no icecreams or vegan brownies...also standard fare. So I score so low because of their lack of effort on the menue front. That said my meat eating companions seemed very pleased with what they got

Due to a last minute change to our travel plans, we needed to book a one night stay at a local hotel, we booked the Greyhound Country Inn, via Last minute.com. What good fortune, a great hotel, polite, helpful and attentive staff, a great nights sleep in a well appointed and clean room, followed with a fantastic full english breakfast. A great place for a drink, food or stay.

Really tasty Sunday roast, pre ordered our food so it was served promptly and everything warm and delicious. If I was being super fussy, I would say the vegetables we're a bit on the microwaved side. Would have preferred a honey roasted carrot or some tender stemmed broccoli. However we had the additional of cauliflower cheese so it was tasty. We would recommend this pub!

What a lovely find! Stopped in by chance on a Saturday afternoon. All the waitresses were super friendly and lovely. The food was amazing - better than your typical pub food. We had the tuna steak, fish finger sandwich and the Cajun chicken burger. Really really lovely. Very impressed, will be back! (Mind your head on the low beams though!)
