Good coffee but disappointing service and food. I had the chicken, bacon, cheese and sweet chilli panini. It was a question of spot the chicken and bacon!! Tasted purely of cheese and sweet chilli. No chicken strips or bacon slices, just a sandwich filling mulch. Very poor value for £9-95 and the description was nothing like reality. On the way out I moved out of the way with my dog as a waitress pushed past without even a thank you. Won’t be returning sadly.

We first came to the Mocha 40 ago and have sporadicly been back ever since. Today was great to share Brunch with my sister and wife - it was lovely, HOWEVER I cannot stay quiet about what I believe to extortionate prices. As an example £9.00 for beans on toast and an additional £3.50 to add bacon to avocado & toast. These prices (especially on self service) are just not justifiable for the average person/family.

What a lovely place. The queue was huge but went down very quickly and even though staff were busy they were friendly and helpful even taking time to go refill the ice when I requested some and they had run out. The food was delicious - my son said his burger was the best he’d had in a long time and my fish cakes had a really lovely crispy coating and my salad was really fresh unlike some places where the side salad is a link offering. The people at the table next to us had toasted sandwiches which also looked lovely. The waitress happily fetched me a takeaway cup so I could take my unfinished beverage out with me. Highly recommend. (Milkshake was the only disappointment as it was more flavoured milk.)

Seaside towns have many eateries that provide you with a huge variety of meals. Mocha with it's 'on the beach' location provides great food and drinks with a lovely atmosphere. Sitting outside on a sunny morning my bacon and egg bap and latte was excellent. The view from my seat was of the cliffs outside Sidmouth going both East and West and the world moving slowly by on holiday and on their way to work.

Popped here for lunch on a sunny Sunday with my husband and dog, sitting outside to make the most of the weather. The staff were pleasant and professional; even offering water and treats to our gannet. Drinks were good quality; and the food was delivered promptly. Our only bug bear was the Ploughmans we ordered for £14.95 - a good portion, but looked like something my Mum would dish up on a summer day. Have had much nicer pub Ploughmans for less money, with homemade pickles and pies etc. it felt overpriced for what we received. However, bear in mind Mocha's location on the esplanade, and that Sidmouth in general is not cheap. Otherwise, a good experience all around.

If a restaurant or cafe is really busy, it usually suggests it is popular. We have used this lovely restaurant quite a few times over the years whilst on holiday in the area. The staff have always been friendly, efficient and obliging. Even locals use this restaurant, so that always speaks volumes. These establishments suffer from “peaks and troughs” throughout the day, so sometimes we need to remember that……… We will be returning and certainly recommend this cafe which is located right on the Sidmouth seafront…….

Food is a little overpriced but I guess you pay a premium for the location. Scones for the cream tea should probably be warm given the prices. What really stood out was the abrupt and indifferent manner of the (small blonde haired lady) who served us at the till. She made us feel as if we should be grateful to be there. Got rather irritated with our children trying to look at the cakes and asked them to move away from the till. After placing an order for food and drink for just shy of £50, we were taken aback when asking for 2 glasses of iced tap water to be told that ice only comes with bottled water! Changed the request to straight tap water and were met with a rude comment about our order that was passed to another member of staff within our earshot. There are such a wide variety and number of fantastic places to eat and drink in Sidmouth, all within walking distance of Mocha and with far more courteous and hospitable staff. Having now spent 10 days in Sidmouth over two visits, I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending that Mocha be given a wide berth until the customer service levels are elevated beyond that of a Siberian prison in the 1950’s.

Good location on the seafront but I did not enjoy my meal here. Front of house staff friendly and efficient. A gentleman very promptly took away my very underdone poached egg (so underdone that there was a gush of clear liquid followed by egg yolk upon first cut). A meal reappeared after a little while and this time the poached egg was completely overdone (almost all solid egg yolk!). Someone in the kitchen must have been having a bad day. Place feels a little crammed with tables and chairs, but it's possibly a narrow awkward space anyway. I ordered poached egg with smashed avocado and brown buttered bread (standard menu item), but, in my opinion, the dish needs livening up as it's very underwhelming presented. Really have no intention of going back, there has to be better places in Sidmouth.

I rarely visit the mocha despite frequenting sidmouth on a regular basis, largely because there are better cafes in town. It is always busy - its seafront location guarantees a steady stream of visitors. The food and service is fine, not great and not very inspiring but nothing particularly wrong with it either. There's a lot of tables in the space so, when busy (and especially on a wet day when everyone is in with big coats on the back of chairs, drying off) it feels a bit claustraphobic. My experience on my recent visit there (at someone else's suggestion) was just the same as previous visits. A bit more space between tables and a revamped menu would go a long way.

Lovely sea front cafe which welcomes dogs inside which is bliss on a fingertip numbing January day! My husband opted for a 2 scone Devon Cream Tea and I opted for a 1 scone Devon Cream Tea. The fresh fruit scones, jam and clotted cream were DELICIOUS. Unfortunately the tea bags used in the pots of tea were not! One bag in each pot which produced weak and listless tea, virtually no colour at all. We emptied one pot and dropped the tea bag in the other pot in the hope for some colour and taste but it was not to be! Such a shame as everything else from the welcome, decor, service, cleanliness could not be faulted. Please consider changing your tea bag selection to match the quality of everything else you stand for and serve.

NOT GOOD FOR COELIACS Ordered a gluten free sausage sandwich, I received sausages containing gluten within gluten free bread. Ordered some toast and felt I had to explain to them to use fresh slices and not the ones from the sausages. The staff were friendly but were not hot-on coeliac knowledge. Rotten attitude towards Alzheimer’s/mobility issue customer. As a family we have been patrons over many decades, mother-in-law in particular only for us to be told ‘sharply’ that we couldn’t sit at a round table - for six we were three. I explained mother-in-law had mobility issues to be told ‘it was only three steps’. Yes she was correct, the miserable waitress/owner, however there were no seats on the first higher level hence taking the lower larger table! On our previous visit where we had a full fish meal the male we were served by reluctantly give us water with our meal - legally they did as they have to but we were given the smallest glasses! Once bitten twice shy but we did try again - for Mum’s benefit. Now twice treated badly so we will not return and will be going elsewhere - so many other lovely venues to choose in the town. We like Dukes & Elizabeth Hotel and will suit Mum with her needs. Be warned… poor customer service, expensive and rude owners!

We visited Sidmouth on 19th July with my wife's god-daughter and her sister. Having spent some time on the beach we wanted to have a meal and The Mocha was right in front of us so we decided to eat there. The menu said that they were serving up to 3pm and we went in at 2.50 so we all quickly made our choices and I went up to the counter to order, arriving at 2.55. There was one elderly gentleman in front of me buy a coffee. However the server seemed to be having some trouble making the order and then the gentleman had some issues making his payment resulting in my arrival at the counter at 3.01, literally 3.01, one minute past 3pm, only to be told they weren't taking any more food orders as it was past 3pm. I argued that I had been in the queue for six minutes and that I would have ordered before 3pm if they hadn't taken so long to sort one coffee order out but to no avail. The member of staff in question was very abrupt to the point of being rude and it was quite clear she could not be bothered to take our order as other staff were dashing around clearing tales and it may have resulted in the staff having to wait for us to finish our meal before they could close up. If they are not going to accept orders up to 3pm then they shouldn't state this on the menu and I have never been in a restaurant or cafe where they refuse to take an order which would have exceeded £60 after I had joined a queue before the closing time. They are lucky they can afford to turn away over £60's worth of business. The customer service here was zero and would not recommend visiting a place where the staff are so rude or so unhelpful.
