We stayed here for a night . The room was nice but the meal we had was awful and expensive. My pie was all dried up and taste less my partner had the sausage and mash which was cold . We had breakfast in the morning which was obviously pre - cooked and Luke warm . We will not go there again.

I organised a surprise visit with friends to see how similar the interior was to the one seen in All Creatures Great and Small. We were all blown away at how incredibly cosy and authentic it was and loved the feel and authenticity. You truly could be in any decade over the last 100 plus years. In addition, the food is outstanding, portions significant and quality of beers exceptional!

Was so looking forward to staying here , love hawes we are here alot but never stayed here , it was my birthday so went what a mistake , got put in a room away from the Inn itself , room was OK though and clean,, the worst it was the food , booked evening meal put us on a table that we would have struggle and seats that you couldn't get half your arse on , asked to be moved , meals were a bit pricey i thought , I ordered burger , was not nice burgers were auwful and the chef decided to put which tasted like horseradish sauce all over inside the bun was horrible don't even like that sauce was very hot and horrible , husband ordered lasagne which he said was OK but not great for the money, but the best bit was the breakfast did not taste good cheeapo sausages as well , and the flies omg the flies , wafted them away all the time but alas my breakfast was ruined half way through it and a fly dive bomed into it that was the last of my breakfast , would never stay there ever again im surprised at the good reviews , constant flies was even more annoying

Four of us had dinner on a Friday evening. Gammon steak was excellent. Scampi was pretty standard. Two pies, one steak, the other chicken, appeared to be bought in and served with some generic gravy which had been nowhere near either pie. For pudding, the sticky toffee pudding and apple crumble both looked and tasted home made and went down well. A salted caramel tart in comparison was tiny and looked very much bought in…. A disappointment really. Overall not bad but could be better.

My husband and I stayed overnight for our anniversary. The Inn is stepped in history dating back to 1302, The interior is stunning . We stayed in the Wordsworth suite and we were not dissapointed. The accommodation was very spacious and beautiful, also it was very clean. We were provided with tea and coffee making facilities in our room. The staff employed were helpful and friendly , and the food was a good standard. We would highly recommend a visit/ staying in the Green Dragon Inn 😊

Visited the green dragon yesterday with my little boy and his dad for food. I opted for the steak and ale pie. I have not stopped thinking about it since, the pastry was incredible and the pie filling itself was amazing, I even ordered another jug of gravy as I couldn’t get enough! My little one ate all his adults lasagne and he’s 8 so I think that speaks for itself! His dad ordered the roast beef dinner which I also tried and was delicious and very well presented, we didn’t have a long wait for food either, staff were attentive and the building itself was just great, like sitting in a little piece of history! Will definitely visit again :)

Staying in the area, we visited here for our evening meal and a drink. Absolutely blown away by the interior. Dimly lit, beautiful, traditional pub. You can see and feel the history pouring from every wall- if they could talk! The annoying thing that took the shine off it was the bar area. It was overrun with children. Pushing past people, running about and climbing on the bar stools. Also children continuously running past our table and being loud. If children can’t behave or the adults they are with can’t guide them on how to behave then they should be banned from the bar area or the pub altogether. It was obvious we weren’t the only people who picked up on this. More than once there were 6 children at the bar shouting and pushing past. We ate and left as we didn’t book a table at soft play! The food was delicious. Real pub grub. Staff pleasant but looked stressed.

One of the most spectacular pubs you'll visit.... Ran by one of the most bizarre families you will ever meet! Visited on a few occasions and not made to feel welcome. Visited again recently and qued for a long time whilst an elderly lady served. Asked for a pint and two cokes. Asked what Crisps she has and she looked at me as if I was stupid and pointed to a wall! Recently read online that the pub had closed and the community had bought the pub and was now operating it... Tried to make small talk and asked her about this... She bit my head off... "You need to check your information.... The internet is obviously wrong. Etc etc" Asked to pay on my card and she declared that she was 80 year old and can't see the machine... Offered to help but she shouted "why do people these days think it's acceptable to pay on cards!!! I can't see the machine I'm 80 year old" sighing and banging around... Clearly I a foul mood..... Ermm OK, sorry but before I headed off on my long walk over from Hawes I forgot to consult my crystal ball in case the barmaid was elderly and didn't like using the card machine ..... Or should I walk all the way back to Hawes use the cashpoint then walk back and pay for it... Hopefully this gem of a pub will one day get the landlord it truly deserves

Visited The Green Dragon today as we wanted to visit whilst in the area due to it being featured in the TV drama 'All Creatutes Great And Small". On the previous day I messaged the pub via their Facebook page to double check if they would be open on a Monday lunchtime as I'm aware some hospitality venues close after a busy weekend. We recieved a message saying "We usually are if the weather is good. From 12ish. We only serve drinks though. Mark" As the weather was good we visited the area and then made our way to the pub. After visiting the waterfall which was next door we went around to the pub to find it totally closed up and in darkness. (This was at 12.45 so comfortably past the 12ish time mentioned in the message) Two other couples were also looking to visit. One couple from America who were also fans of the TV show and were wanting to specifically visit. This was such a shame

What a gem of a discovery, was made to feel so welcome we went back twice before our trip ended. Fabulous landlord who lent me a book on local history. Great historical bar area possibly dating back to 13teenth century. Bags of character plus a certain puddle out behind the pub. Well worth a visit in fact it's a must before the Gentleman landlord retires, top pint of peculiar too. Thank you Mark, for us it was the highlight of our tour of north Yorkshire. I am no stranger to the dales, myself and my family would visit when I was a kid sometimes twice a year, the green dragon inn in Hardraw is very familiar to me and I have seen many a iteration over the years. It’s been about 15yrs since I was last there and learned it had only been open for a little while before my visit. I was camping next door across the river in Hardraw at the campsite which was excellent and perfectly located for the pennine way and treks up on to the moors. I had some work to do and needed a place to use my laptop for a whole day, on my arrival I spent the evening at the Inn and asked Ian the barman and then the landlord Owen who were both massively helpful, he then introduced me to the owner Mark who again was another layer of helpfulness(also a talented draughtsman) and suggested that I can even use a seperate room to focus upstairs the following day. It transpired that I ended up spending the whole day in the bar(sober) with my laptop because the wifi wouldn’t extend through the 13th century walls(no bad thing). I got a real insight in to the comings and goings of locals and tourists alike which ended up being a big day for Owen and his partner who maintained such spirits throughout as well as plying me with the most amazing local cheeses and good coffee. I can’t thank them enough for accomodating me that day and in a place that holds such amazing memories too. I’d highly recommend a visit if you enjoy quintessential period architecture and not one but a couple of real fires on the go most of the year round. Wishing the team there the very best in their ventures and a continued footfall to keep this amazing place alive and well not just for you the visitor but for the locals too.

What a lovely country pub. Top quality, honest, excellent value pub food, served with a smile. If you're in the area, I'd highly recommend it. If you're lucky you'll get served by Sam, the friendliest barman you could find.

The location is simply fabulous. At the top of Swaledale with views all around. Set up for walkers - so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Mixing with fellow walkers meant a very sociable stay. Room was good size and comfortable. Restaurant bar and lounge were of high quality and brought a high enjoyable stay. Matt and Dave are great hosts. Thoroughly recommended.

Food was amazing and catered well for gluten free, however marked down as wouldnt swap chips for mash without extra chaege on a steak that was £31 anyway.

No beer on draught, no food available. The only drink on tap was from yorkshire water. Don't know how the landlord makes a living, rumour is he has funds hidden in a barrel of Wensleydale Gold.

We ate at the Fox twice during our recent stay in West Witton. We have dined there for many years (30+) when visiting the Dales but have to say that it's never been anything near as good as we experienced last week. The new owners have already had an enormous impact on the place and we loved it. Rather than being a place to go for a quick plate of food, as was the case at times over past years, it now felt like a place to sit and enjoy a 3-course meal with good draft beers and quality wines in a wonderfully relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. It is also a traditional village pub (and social meeting place for locals) and that side of the business seems to have flourished too with far more people visiting and staying longer which also adds to the great atmosphere. There was a time when booking a table was not required. That is definititely no longer the case. We booked for both visits and all tables were occupied - even midweek. There is always a good selection of well-kept local real ales to try and these vary from week to week. There is a good selection of quality wines to choose from all at reasonable prices. On the menu, we were spoilt for choice on our 2nd visit as we'd arrived knowing what we wanted only to be confronted with a Specials board all of which was very appealing. We both opted for the Dales Lamb Rump. It came a a sizeable cut of meat cooked perfectly (slight pink inside) and very tender. We were blown away by this is we'd never experienced anything this good in over 30 years of visiting. We would not normally have bothered with a dessert but again the menu looked very tempting and we opted for the Curd Tart (with fruit soaked in rum) - delicious. And did I mention the service? - it was all first class. Attentive without being rushed along (as so often happens in other places). Keith/Lisa/Ayrton + the team - you're doing an amazing job to improve the Fox and make it into a 'must try' destination. It feels like you've given an 'old friend' a new lease of life and the village hub is once more buzzing like it used to but with great food and drink added as well. We can't wait to return again when we next visit the Dales in Spring 2025. Keep up the great work.
