Wanted some quick eats for lunch, so sat in the rear garden. I had green lentil soup and a cheese scone which was delicious, and my partner had jacket potato with egg mayo and beans which was good.

I had a very good experience in the green caffé! It’s a very nice and cozy place, and they have a lovely garden in the back! They have loads of special meals. My secret tip is the chicken curry and the mango lassi! They make it fresh and it’s very affordable. The staff is super friendly and helpful. They make very good barista coffee! I’ll definitely come back!!

Not a fan of having to leave a poor review but I visited this cafe at the end of August and have to be honest about how it was. We were looking for a quick lunchtime snack after spending the morning in Totnes and Green cafe seemed to fit the bill. We were going to sit outside to eat but we’re told there was an extra cost so it was cheaper to takeaway which was not a problem at all and we ordered 2 x Cornish pasties for me and my wife, and pizza slices for my children and we walked down to the bottom of the town by the river to eat these. Sadly, the 2 Cornish pasties were warm on the outside and barely warm on the inside and weren’t particularly tasty. My boys described the pizzas as ‘ok’ and these were warm still. As we’d already been up to the top of the town we didn’t want to walk back up to top to raise this with the cafe but it was slightly disappointing at the price we paid for these. I wish every success for the cafe on the whole but need to be honest about our visit.

Lovely lovely family run cafe bang in the middle of the highstreet! Both parents and usually one or two of their kids always there, ready to greet you warmly and to temporarily bring you into their family home. They have all the British summertime classics (pasties, pies, jacket potatoes etc), but where Sylvia and John really shine best is their Indian cuisine (obviously, its where they've lived most of their lives!) Please do try the curries, the chicken tikka paninis and whatever else new they have on offer, you cannot be disappointed! Do go and visit the Green Cafe, and meet one of the newer additions to Totnes highstreet (Photo shows a busy busy rainy July day, I should've got one of the Pollards together with their big smiles:) )

Why is everyone so negative on here? A cafe in Totnes that sells traditional food and exactly what we were looking for. We had really lovely sandwiches (with salad and crisps) and drinks today, homemade lemonade and vanilla milkshake. Staff were pleasant and friendly and were working busily as were the kitchen staff. The prices were as expected and no different to anywhere else in the town. Thank you.

Of all the places in Totnes we happen to find probably the worst cafe in town! We were hungry and tired after travelling and just wanted to be fed. I ordered Jacket potatoes and pasties along with homemade lemonade. We sat outside enjoying the warm weather and our drinks came very quickly which was great. Our meals came after about 10 minutes and my jacket potato was not only cold but rock hard!! My husbands pasty looked like it had been squashed and the contents was pureed baby food. Awful. I took my JP back in and mentioned it was cold and hard and went back outside to wait for it either to be heated or a replacement. A couple of minutes later a girl came out and handed me £7.50 back saying " oh we don't have any left, so here is a refund" !!! I did not want a refund I wanted some food. She didn't offer a solution or alternatives and so I had to sit and watch my husband eat his lunch, which was only just about edible. What a rubbish experience, so don't waste your money. Their are lots of amazing places to eat in Totnes we later found and would NEVER return here again.

Lovely friendly little cafe on the High Street in Totnes - bigger than you think, with seating outside, more inside and a quiet dog friendly courtyard out the back. The new owners have made a big effort so a good choice of good quality well cooked food suitable for all tastes (Vegan, Veggie & Meat eaters), as well as pasties, pizza and lovely freshly baked scones & cakes. Can thoroughly recommend the curries, well seasoned & extremely tasty, and the cream teas with yummy freshly baked scones… good spot to stop, have a bite to eat and chat with friends.

We had a fantastic evening meal at the "Good korma pop-up" at the Green cafe. I am still dreaming of the mutton curry - such complex, deep flavours. We had mutton curry, potato curry, special breads (topped with a chopped salad) , fish tikka and took our own wine. We also had some great, fun chats with the table next to us. The meal for 2 , including corkage , was much lower than expected and we walked away feeling very happy indeed.

My husband and I ordered a pot of tea for two and two scones. The scones were in the counter at £1.50 so stupidly didn't view the menu to check how much extra it would be to sit in. It cost an extra £2 (£3.50) each to sit in. More than the scone itself would have cost to take away. Maybe they could have their prices more visible. Other cafes in the area charge an extra 50p.

Been coming here for many years on our holiday for the Totnes market of which we come in here for breakfast before. Myself, dad, mum, nan , sisters bf and sister. My sister was accused of saying no beans and mushrooms for her breakfast of which she didn’t, she said no mushrooms, scrambled egg . So the breakfasts came eventually after being told 15 mins as was “busy” took 30 mins in the end. Was no sorry that the breakfasts were delayed. Yes they were short staffed but the rudeness of the blonde haired lady was shocking, after she accused her saying no beans she shoved the food cheque in her face basically saying you did say no beans etc. Then the lady said would you like some of which my sister replied yes please and they never turned up. Then she randomly mopped around the seated customers, you never do that it smelt bleachy and horrible. All the other staff, the chef and other girls and lady was lovely. It’s disappointing as have been coming here for years and the breakfasts are lovely but we will try elsewhere next time. It’s a shame as the other staff were lovely.

Went in here for breakfast and waited over half an hour it to be served. Our waitress (lady with short blonde hair) was just awful. My girlfriend specifically stated that she wanted beans only to be told that she was wrong. Even if there is a miscommunication with a customer, you should put it right and give them what they want. She was extremely abrupt and shoved the receipt in our face to explain that we didn't ask for the beans. Surely the staff should be sent on some kind of training course for customer service? You only have to look at all of the reviews on here to realise that something isnt right. We've been here every year on our holidays for 4 years but will always remember the bad service we received today. Next year we will try somewhere else!! I would like to add that the rest of the staff weve dealt with are wonderful. The chef is so polite and kind! Take your skills elsewhere, you're too good for the place.

I wish I had read the reviews prior to going in today! Eat in prices not clear, staff miserable and not welcoming, food uninspiring and toilets dirty.

We by chance visited Totnes today. What a lovely small Devonshire town! Many varied and interesting shops, some unfortunately closed for annual holidays( shame! I was going to buy a Japanese musical harp) but never the less, it’s shops were a delight from the normal ‘run of mill’ main streets that seem to be the norm.

Went in last year on holiday for a couple of gingerbread men with our two small kids and left deflated by the poor quality fair and faceache staff. More ginger in Dicky Mints sideburns. Didn't leave a review then, thought I'd give it a whirl this year, and see if they’d upped their game. Well they ain’t. Went in with the kids to get them a couple of cakes. Noticeable change since our last visit....things have moved up a fair bit on the miseryomonitor and down on the quality of fare. What a sour faced bunch of old boilers serving on. I've seen corpses with more warmth than these Herberts.

Great location in Totnes. Outside seating available. Great scones and coffee. A good range of pies and pasties. Dog friendly

Food expensive for what is offered. Cream tea only really had sufficient cream/jam for one of the two scones. Pots of tea only enough for 1 and half very small cups. Pie not as good as your average chip shop and also small. Soup served in small conical bowls. Would have expected more from a foodie town and there are far better places to eat locally.

I visited this cafe for the first time today. We ordered 2 coffees and a sausage roll. I was asked what sides i wanted with the sausage roll and i said none but was then told i would be charged for them regardless! I cancelled the sausage roll order. we sat in the garden at the back. The coffees took a long time to arrive, the table had not been wiped out the back. When the coffees arrived my teaspoon was so dirty the tea and coffee stains were ingrained on the spoon part. i asked for a clean spoon. The coffee was so strong we were unable to drink it! i then went to use the toilet and noticed the baby changing mat was dirty and the female toilet was more like a pubic toilet the grills in thee were disgusting as was the floor and bottom of the door. Remember the staff will be using the same toilet. this cafe is dirty and we will never go again .....avoid

We popped in for breakfast having walked the length and breadth of Totnes looking for a suitable place to serve a full cooked meal. Its a bit dowdy when you first enter and although the lady taking the order was polite but there seemed to be a lack of engagement or interest whatsoever. There is no background music or atmosphere within the premises which is long and narrow and seems to be overwhelmed by ovens etc when you first enter. Its all that cooking and noise which finally gets to you after the lengthy wait for our breakfast which in itself was OK at best. Whilst the majority of items were hot, the potatoes and mushrooms were luke warm at best.Yes I've had better and certainly worse, so overall I feel I'm being fair in saying its very average and needs someone with a different view to wake the place up and make it appealing for customers to enter and enjoy their surroundings. Considering the cost of the food it should be something better. I've ate at some cheap establishments with cheap meals and enjoyed them more than eating here. The young girl who served the food had no interaction whatsoever. Plates down and gone...... . I'm trying to be constructive so the owners can look from the outside in, rather than the reverse and see that to encourage patrons you need to welcome them in every aspect. This place sadly doesn't.

Nothing environmentally sound about the Green Cafe - don’t be fooled by the name. Poor food - tasteless pasty, average coffee, bland salads. Poor service - not a smile in sight, unhelpful, grumpy. There are many great places to eat in Totnes - this isn’t one of them.

I won't go here again - I have visited several times because my friend likes it there but never again. Over the past few visits: Staff have handled cutlery by the blade or tines or bowl. Cutlery is in a tray to help yourself and on a couple of occasions has clearly not been checked as it is still has food on it! On one occasion several people were seen to be taking a long time to find clean cutlery and staff did NOTHING to sort the problem out. I have seen staff drop "clean" cutlery on the floor and pick it up and put it back in the cutlery tray. I have had my coffee served to me doublehanded with both thumbs on the rim of the cup!!!! ugh! I have had my coffee served to me slopped in the saucer. I have had my food served to me with a thumb on the food!!!!! (side salad). All in all the standards are so low I have refused to go back now and insist we lunch elsewhere. Quite a few of the people I work with will not go here, even though it is the nearest cafe to us! I've also had to wait too long for food, despite the cafe not being busy Overall a really bad experience and too many chance not taken to put things right.

Lovely cafe with an atmosphere to let you relax after shopping the high street. It has a cozy, homely, feel that takes the stress of shopping and crowds away once you enter.

Popped into the Green Café for breakfast this morning. It was pretty empty and nice and quiet so I thought it would be ideal to use the free wifi and catch up on emails over a Friday morning treat - a full English.

A lovely little cafe in Totnes High Street - yes it is snug but the service is excellent with tables cleared quickly and super food served. It was not pub food as another reviewer stated and the soup was delicious and is served with a choice of granary bread, cheese scone - yummy - or gluten free bread. The cakes are fresh and home made as are the scones and the soup - a real little find - Thank you.

We visited the Flavel for the screening of King Lear direct from London. This was superb but the cafe wasn't open when we turned up and we couldn't even get a cup of coffee during the twenty minute break as only alcoholic drinks or two soft drinks were available at the bar. It didn't spoil our evening but we needed the caffiene at the time and couldn't get it

Awesome. Don’t judge a book by its cover. I arrived late evening for work over a couple of days. The staff couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful from getting me a taxi late evening at the train station to helping me get to my work venue in the morning. I had arrived past restaurant hours but the staff were more than happy to prepare food if I had wanted. I was also given a local delicacy from a local. I’m normally a poor sleeper but slept so well. Whilst the rooms at first appearance look a little dated the bed is so so comfy. The room also spotlessly clean. The question is - what’s more important to you - a great nights sleep or a sterile environment with mod cons? Sadly the first morning I didn’t have chance to sample the breakfast- I didn’t have time to wait. They have a sign saying ‘We don’t serve fast food. We serve fresh food as fast as we can”. Suffice to say I ordered my breakfast for the following morning before I went to bed so it was ready for me when I needed it. Now for the highlight DINNER. I eat a lot and this is definitely one of the best meals I had in a long time. Not the usual processed pub food. The main(stuffed chicken with root veg and dauphinois potatoes was delicious. I never order dessert but felt I had to - the main was so good. The sticky toffee pudding did not disappoint. Overall a really great stay. Thanks so much

Staff was rude when they got our order wrong and then correct it after a bit of telling them but the was going to refuse and service that day was not good. Was over charged with a coffee and cake we didnt have as an extra 7 pounds , Other times been good. Food nice.
