I went in to get a bag of chips to go with the fish I’d bought. I have been buying chips since they were a tanner a bag! Never have I come across a worse portion of chips, they were appalling, rubbery and tasting of old fat. This may sound trivial, but I was charged 100 times more for them than that bag of chips back in the 60s.

The best fish and chips i have had in Newcastle! The fishes are massive. The staff are incredibly nice as well.

I don’t really get the bad reviews on here. I’ve been loads of time and it’s been lovely. The fish is always freshly cooked and it’s boiling. Although I do find it amusing that the little woman owner is literally always on the phone. Don’t know what she has to talk about that much haha

In one of the gaps between lockdown, i arranged to meet my parents for fish and chips at gosforth park. on the way they were going to pick up some fish and chips (pre-lockdown we used to go to tynemouth to do this). my mum went in to order 2 cod a chips for me and dad, and a scampi and chips for herself. it was around 11.40, just after they'd opened. the shop was empty and the lady serving was on the phone. she took the order, still on the phone, and my mum waited. and waited. and waited. eventually the lady got off the phone and handed my mum the two cod and chips. "where is the scampi and chips" asked my mum. the woman got flustered and insisted on doing the scampi and chips (my mum protested weakly as she didn't want to go without). 10 minutes later she got her scampi and chips, and she went back to the car and made her way to meet me. we were originally to meet at midday; it was 12.25 by the time they actually got there. bearing in mind that mum had entered the shop at 11.40 and it takes maximum 10 minutes to get to gosforth park and park up, that meant it took 35 minutes to get 2 fish, 1 scampi and 3 chips. as we opened the food we noticed that a) it was cold (as you would expect given the time ) b )the chips were nasty and almost inedible c) the woman had missed out my chips from the order and d) the scampi was really bad quality to the point where my mum ate 3 of them and left the rest (chips included). thankfully another chippie has opened in south gosforth, so we can try that.

La comida suele ser sabrosa, pero el personal no se preocupa si está caliente o sabrosa, pero se apresura a tomar su dinero y correr. Lástima que no haya servicio al cliente. El 90% de las veces la comida está fría.

Apareció aquí en una oportunidad fuera estaba ocupado, que siempre es una buena señal el tamaño de las porciones eran justas y la comida era buena y sabrosa. El principal beneficio era que los precios eran mucho más baratos que los precios de Londres, pero un largo camino por recorrer para una cena deliciosa.

Horrible place to work owneralways on phone ungrateful person. Very poor training never listen to a single word ya say.

Great little chippy I never knew about until saw raving reviews on here! What a gem it is. Unbelievably good prices for good quality food. Food was all cooked fresh and not greasy like you find in most places! Bit of a longer wait but defo worth the wait! Would highly recommend as hard to find places with good service and not dripping in oil! Cash only though however there is a cash point at the top of the street. The portions are enormous so you won’t go hungry as they don’t skimp!

Cod bites and chips were the order of the day. Cod bites were crispy with light batter and soft flaky fish.Plenty of chips .

Stinking, the food is a s bad as it looks from the outside. Chips and food left to long in the warmer.

Well the happy woman who seems to own this place hit a new low last night. She was just miserable. Hello don't you want to keep customers (especially when some of the food isn't always consistent). I thought I'd given her some bad news rather than that I wanted to buy something off her! Previously I'd been persevering but I think I will start drivng an extra mile to find a smile (and good food!). There's no need for it. Serving miserable cod next?

Cod bites are great value, chips were cooked but pale. Clean but needs a really good update. A bit of enthusiasm from the person serving would have been nice rather than moaning about being tired.

This is a very good chippy on great north road. Good range of food and the chips are fresh. The fish is always very good. You can usually get parked just outside too.

Post holiday "back in UK" comfort food. Still not too much appreciation of the custom and the chips were not great - fully cooked but a bit hard overall. Fish was freshly cooked but could have done with being drained before served. Need to find another.

Bad services - staff and manager are so rude. Not suitable for vegetarians and gluten free. Asked them if they are fry fish separate from the chips they said they do- found out they don't. I was really ill. Other thing if someone is vegetarian they shouldn't lie that's it's suitable for them. They should do a course to learn all the allergies and religious view.

Im in love with the restaurant the female owner is so polite and Nice wish the best for her and her family love her so much also great food!!!!! The prices are very cheap for the fantastic quality of everything and the male owner is very handsome and sweet , I think they are both very good people. Very family friendly

Drifted back here a couple of times and each time the food has been very good. Fish always freshly cooked. Lady owner can be a bit moody though (honestly she can!).

I just moved into the area and it's right across the way from my flat so I figured why not? The portions and price are more than agreeable and the flavour was top notch. The fish was a bit greasy, but that's to be expected to some degree. The fish was flakey and delicious.

We're not regulars of the chippy, more just now and then, when I've been busy and am too 'fashed' to cook. We've tried other chippies but keep on coming back so they must be doing something right. From what some reviewers are saying I'm having difficulty squaring their negative comments with my own findings. Could it be that once I've been served, had my very pleasant chat with the lady owner, then left, that the place turns into a Jekyll & Hyde chippy?A reviewer expressed horror that they close at 9.00pm and was amazed that they didn't cater to the after pub crowd. Perhaps they are no fans of rowdyness, like a quiet life or prefer not to listen to unwarranted racial slurs. Just perhaps, cut them some slack. I know it's not the Bigg Market but once folk have had a few sherbets, I wouldn't enjoy serving them if they kick off.Because I'm not a regular customer, I'm not sure whether Mrs Owner greets every customer as they enter, or is it that she has an eidetic memory and recalls my face from perhaps months ago. All I am sure about is the welcome is nice & the food is tasty, the fish (much to my wife's happiness), is never greasy and the scrantions/scranshons?? add the finishing touch.

We'd been to the firework display so thought we pop in here on our walk home for a treat.Horrendous experience.To start with we both noticed how unfriendly, actually no - brusque the guy was to us.We ordered curry and chips x 2 and a portion of cod bites.The cod was smelly, chewey and dry and euggh, the curry sauce on the chips, still had lumps in.Even shovelling the chips into the squeaky container the guy closed it leaving chips sticking out! I mean - would you want to eat that?We ended up chucking it all in the bin and heading to the Gosforth Chippy. The difference in quality? Poles apart.Seriously, give this a miss. There;s no love there in what they are producing, sadly.

With the choice of chippys in Gosforth this is the best one available if willing to travel further would get better. But locally I always go here its reasonable and clean. Staff could smile a bit of friendly service never goes a miss. Fish cooked fresh as well.

Food was decent and the portion sizes were generous, especially for the price but they close at 8.45pm, even on weekends. It is obviously up to them when they open and close but I can't help but think they are missing out on a lot of business, especially from people leaving the nearby Three Mile Inn after happy hour!

Not so good last few times with poorer quality fish than in past. Staff also a bit more grumpy. Time to find another.

Just grabbed a fishcake and chips on the way home from work. This was the first time I'd been there a d the chips were lovely and the fishcake wasn't too greasy but they had no cheese for cheesy chips sadly

Very good local chippy with freshly cooked to order food (you nearly always wait for fresh cooked fish). Quality is consistently good and prices are actually pretty good (Fish & Chips just under a fiver).One of the better deep fried masters around.

Great North Road chippy isn't the best chippy I've been too but decent by Newcastle's average to poor chip shop standards. Try their homemade fishcakes they are very tasty. All of the food is nicely cooked and fresh to order.

This is where you get fish and chips of the quality you would expect from the fish quay down at North Shields and tynemouth. In fact I would go to say its better and the staff are friendly and the fish is golden crisp with a rich batter. For just under a tenner you can get fish and chips X 2 for you and your partner. Definetly up there as a contender for best fish and chips shops in the Newcastle Upon Tyne!

I have a chip shop at my front door but travel here if I fancy some quick food. Great food and very clean chippy

Nothing more to say really, clean chippy, freshly cooked on most occasions. Used it quite a few times.

I live locally and have only used it a couple of times. It is clean and tidy and the staff are great however the chips are always undercooked. White and soggy. Fish is great though!

At last nice clean and fresh food outlet, food always cooked up fresh in front, clean work surfaces and competitive price. Like previous review said ..at last a chippy to be proud of in gosforth

much nicer quality and taste than Gosforths other establishmentts which are more like Bigg Market 2am pits..
