Great North Pie Co in South Lakeland

Delicious serving of fantastic pies. Beans & peas are delicious, not your standard ones.

Really looking forward to this and not disappointed. Steak pie was exceptional and portions generous, we shared a portion of mash, peas and gravey and had more than enough. Meat and potato pie would benefit from more meat in my opinion but looking forward to trying the other pies later in the week. If you like pies then don't miss this place.

Great pies, £7.50 each to eat in, think you can takeaway hot or cold as well. Indoor and outdoor seating, not too busy even for a bank holiday weekend. Right next to the main car park. Well worth a visit!

Delicious, high quality ingredients made for two proper tasty pies; one chicken, one beef. The accompanying mash, gravy and peas were generous in portion and left us feeling full and refuelled for our return walk. A friendly place to have a chat and warm up with seating and toilet. Option to order online or buy from Booths.

Came looking for healthy breakfast and decent coffee. Did great granola pots and coffee where they used local milk and use local coffee from Staveley. Then came back after Helvellyn for one of their award winning pies! Cracking find

Outstanding! The pies, mash, gravy and beans were all chef-made and a quality that I would be thrilled to have in a top restaurant. The manager was extremely helpful and kind. We had the vegan options and they were made with as much passion and expertise as I imagine the rest of the menu. There is even a small very clean loo and a place to hang out wet coats. Of course we came back two days later on our next walk. Why bother risking anywhere else :)

Wonderful pies, mash and gravy. Friendly service. Thoroughly recommended. We were also offered a vegan pie (not on the menu). Toilet available at rear. Space inside for 16 people on stools around some shared table areas - more tables outside too.

Stumbled across this gem trying to find Ambleside centre. Such lovely lads inside and a cracking pie, the mash and gravy are a must, I swear, after a days walking it’s the best recovery food out there. Go do yourself a favour when in town. Wish we had one in London.

Had the veggie daal pie and it was pretty bland,same for the side of beans.

We just stumbled upon this little pie shop, and after eating the pies (one of each), discovered that it is the best pie shop in Britain. And now we know why. Minimalistic menus, but Excellent pies. And if you’re lucky enough to be here when the dessert of the day is Sticky Toffee Pudding - DO NOT miss it. We’ve had sticky toffee pudding around the world, and this is up there with the best.

Pie, velvety mash, amazing gravy, and sweet peas. Best pie and mash in the North. Not cheap, but nowadays ya get what ya pay for. Will be back.

There are pies and then there are pies. These are another level of pies. Either served simply with gravy or also with mash, the choice is yours. Top beers too. There was a slight mix up on the order which was fine as we got to try another type of pie, and this was remedied as we left by being given the original ordered pie to take away, excellent customer service and thank you 😃.

Closed both occasions we tried to visit, queried opening hours with their head office , still waiting on a reply. Great shame, but the cafe immediately next door is excellent.

Steak and Ale delicious thought it was expensive for takeaway but after eating changed my mind .

I have to admit that my partner and I almost took up residency at this amazingly good cafe the week we were in Ambleside on holiday. This is as good as it gets, whether you're having the pie and mash for lunch, or the bacon butty and souffle omelette for breakfast - the chef-made sides of baked beans and mushy peas are great too. The fact it was at the end of the road our holiday home was in made it really hard to walk past!! The lads who work there are really friendly and happy to give advice on the local area (but not the recipe for the brown sauce!). We felt quite sad saying goodbye on our last day, but cheered up on buying 8 pies to take home, knowing we can also get them via the internet!! (Can you add the brown sauce to the line up please?!!) I've never gone on so much about pastry products before - but they really are THAT good!! Highly and wholeheartedly recommended.

Popped in on Friday after a morning of paddle boarding on Windermere. I had the chees and onion pie, partner and son both had chicken and leek pies. My pie was amazing, packed full and really tasty, feedback on the chiken and leek was 'the best pie i've ever tasted'. Mash was creamy and smooth and the gravy was superb. I could not fault anything, amazing pies and we will 100% be returning.

My favourite meal in Ambleside! Braised beef pie with mash, gravy and mushy peas a little taste of Heaven! And a pint of bluebird bitter just finished it off.

To be honest, I wanted to eat from the cafe next door but the waiting time was too long. The two guys at the GNPC warmly welcomed us as the first customers of the day and made us the MOST delicious coffee of the week. My husband actually had a pie for breakfast which he was most impressed with and I had the lightest, fluffiest, tastiest egg souffle. We had a great seat in the sun, watching the Saturday morning Ambleside world go by. I am glad the wait time was too long next door as we would have missed out!

We were on the last day of our holidays and had arranged to meet our daughter for breakfast before heading home. We were warmly greeted and quickly seated. Food was simple but very tasty meeting all needs - vegetarian and not vegetarian. The service was great. Nothing was too much trouble. The person serving us offered to help swat away a wasp as I freak when I see a wasp. A fabulous end to our holiday. Highly recommend to anyone wanting a quick pit stop. There is a car park right next to it, so no worries about parking.

Absolutely amazing. We sadly didn't have enough time whilst in Ambleside to dine in, however they kindly offered us the pies to go (chilled, prepared for baking off, came with instructions etc). The beef and ale one was the flavour we chose - was absolutely amazing. Beef was shredded, not in chunks, which I very much enjoyed. You could definately taste the ale in there, pastry was nice and flaky. It was the best pie we had in a very long time. Hope to see you next year!

We bought 4 takaeway pies to enjoy at home and we couldnt wait! The gentlemen serving us was very friendly and welcoming. This was definitely the best pies we had ever I couldn’t believe how good the taste was. It was well filled and the pastry was just amazing! Will definitely be ordering some more!

I love moaning about prices, I always think things are overpriced. Looking at the menu here I was getting ready to moan about pie, mash and gravy costing £12 to sit on a picnic bench. After I’d eaten it I thought it was good value. A fantastic pie, packed full of meat and with lovely mash and flavoursome gravy. I’d heartily recommend it.

Roast chicken and bacon pie was lovely. Perfect portions and very nice food, along with friendly staff.

Stopped by whilst visiting Ambleside via boat from Bowness and we loved it. The three staff members on duty were friendly, bubbly and helpful and the pies were delicious! We ordered a chicken and leek pie and a cheese and onion pie and both were excellent. Sat outside in the sunshine and thoroughly enjoyed our lunch stop. Thank you!

If you haven't been here then it's an absolute must! Not only are the staff friendly, attentive and polite but the pies are quite simply amazing! We will definitely be coming back next time we're in Ambleside.

We visited this popular place to buy some food for our evening meal. There was limited choice due to popularity of particular items but we still ordered and were happy with the food.

Incredible pies (I had the beef and ale but the cheese and onion is apparently an award winner) and good beers on offer too. Great for refuelling after a walk round west side of Windermere. Veggies are catered for but no vegan pie option which is a shame.

Stopped here on our first afternoon in Ambleside. Weather very warm so nice to sit outside . Friendly staff and lovely food . Shared a pie and mash . Good choice of drinks .

We just had one the best breakfast in there. Ordered takeaway as it was busy already and within 5 min we had a couple of bacon muffins. Never tasted something more delicious, tempted to go back for a second round. Thanks for a great start or my day.

Delicious pie place! Simple menu with 50% vegetarian friendly pie options. We are glad we could make it in time before they close and tasted the delicious pie. The crumble pot was also well made. Definitely worth a visit when in Ambleside

We decided to make a trip over to the restaurant on the back of hearing great reviews, reading enticing Instagram posts and recommendations from friends. What a pointless exercise and waste of time. Having deliberated the journey at length due to the two hour round trip, we decided to go for it anyway. Bare in mind we live in Sheffield. Upon arriving we were left furious when seeing the restaurant was closed. We had checked the opening times on Google before setting off, clearly stating it was open Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10-4pm. The neighbouring cafe informed us they had changed their opening times to just Saturday and Sunday. Certainly not the way to grow your business and increase your reputation. Having eyed up the menu for weeks and weeks we’ve just been left thoroughly fed up and hacked off. Unfollowed and won’t be returning. Poor form.

Food, staff, service all fabulous!! Great coffee with bacon muffin delish and take away a pie (all flavours tasty but ask about their specials!!) Always on my visit list when in Ambleside

We popped in after a day of walking and it was just what we needed. The pie, mash and mushy peas were delicious!! Staff were very friendly and helpful too. As a veggie there was a good choice of options! Would deffo recommend.

Firstly Five stars isn't enough....What a fabulous company, we had a marvellous meal at The Queens Head in Troutbeck and asked where the delicious pies had come from so made our way to pick some up to take home on our last day of holiday in September. They were delicious so decided to order some more to get us through the November lockdown !!! We had efficient notifications, excellent delivery service via DPD and they arrived in excellent condition in superb cold controlled packaging. Do yourselves a favour and order some and support an exceptionally proficient small company who produce real quality food.

Amazing pies. Not all pies are the same! These are definitely worth trying and worth every penny. If you’re getting take out the meat pies definitely need gravy but they sell that too and it’s delicious.

Lovely staff, couldn't do enough for us. Amazing pies and a great pint of Manchester Union on tap. Excellent way to wrap up an autumnal walk on the fells.

This has to be one of the best pies I have had. Such tasty filling, beautiful pastry and the most delicious gravy. I can highly recommend the Lancashire cheese and onion pie. Well worth a visit.

The name says it all - great northern pies.I had the chicken, bacon and peas pie, with gravy and mash. The perfect amount for lunch and the gravy was delicious!We sat outside in the courtyard, where there were a few, well spaced out tables.The staff were lovely and welcoming too.

I'm a returning customer here. These are my favourite pies anywhere, I don't think I've ever had a bad one. This time I had the cheese and onion which was lovely. Please bring back the ham hock and black pudding pie though!

Después de investigar mucho sobre TA, Great North Pie Co era uno de los lugares que estábamos deseando probar al llegar a Ambleside. Desafortunadamente, debido a que ya habíamos tenido un gran desayuno y luego salimos a cenar, solo pudimos justificar que nos tomáramos un pastel y una comida de puré entre los dos, pero fue perfecto.Teníamos el pastel de carne en conserva con puré y salsa y un lado de guisantes blandos. La encantadora dama que nos atendió se ofreció amablemente a dividir la comida en dos platos en lugar de que mi esposo y yo tuviéramos que comer del mismo plato (eso fue bueno para mí, ya que mi esposo siempre come mucho más de lo que debería cuando estamos compartiendo ' ¡alguna cosa! ) .La tarta estaba deliciosa con una proporción perfecta de relleno de buena calidad y pasteles deliciosos. El puré era cremoso y sazonado a la perfección y los guisantes mascarpone eran tan buenos. ¡Mi esposo, que odia los guisantes blandos, se convirtió inmediatamente! También era la porción de tamaño perfecto para una parada rápida para almorzar. ¡Fácilmente podríamos haber vuelto de la noche y haber comido otro pastel cada uno! ¡He comido muchos pasteles en mi vida y este fue uno de los mejores! !

Didn’t manage to visit shop as closed day we were there but landlady at guest house advised us that same pies for sale in local deli. So glad she did pies were delicious & can highly recommend.
