Visited today with 4 children (5, 8, 8 & 10). The gentleman who welcomed us in was more than happy to let us spread across 2 smaller tables. He was so accommodating of the children, providing half portions of food & speaking to them directly rather than through me. The food was lovely and promptly delivered. Their hot chocolates were just what we'd be seeking (cream & marshmallows) And all at a reasonable price, especially for the location. I'll certainly be visiting again 😊

A first visit to Grayz Tearoom in Lincoln Bailgate today and will definitely be returning! The table I had reserved was set, the welcome from the staff was excellent and the choice of the menu, the quality of home cooked food, it's presentation and value for money was also excellent, this really is a little gem in the beautiful Bailgate, thank you and we'll done ! 👏😊

I ordered an Americano and what I received was an insult! The tiniest cup I'd seen in my life! Literally 3 gulps and the coffee would've been gone. I say "would've" because it was so disgusting I couldn't actually finish it. I had two mouthfuls and was left with ⅓, that remaining ⅓ was so strong it was like an espresso. Clearly the americano hadn't been made correctly. It was absolutely foul !!! To top it off they insulted me by charging £3 for 2 mouthfuls of well below average coffee. I live on americano and make them at home (much larger than this) so I know what I'm talking about. Mr cafe man come to my house and see what you should be serving. Use a ruddy mug, not a thimble sized cup. Also pre heat the mug with boiling water especially when serving it outdoors! Now all it takes is additional hot water to make the americano larger, and that's not gonna cost you the earth is it sir? Crikey I've paid £3 so a little hot water isn't much to ask. As you need a lesson in drinks making I'm here to help. An americano is a "Long espresso" The only thing that's long at this cafe are the customer's faces when they see what the hell you are serving up. I'll never go to this place ever again. Take heed potential customers!

A quaint, small tea room just near Lincoln Cathedral and Castle. We went today for breakfast and it’s a lovely little place. Just a chap cooking and a friendly, polite and helpful young man serving tables. It was quite busy as graduation ceremonies were happening today in the cathedral but the waiter remained professional and polite, in the midst of a busy rush. We had a coffee, banana milkshake, tea cake and bacon sandwich. All delicious but the bacon was a bit hard to chew. Would definitely return.

Living in Lincoln we have visited Grayz several times. The staff are nice and the food is nice. BUT if you have any mobility issues you will have to cope with steps. To get to the toilet is a tight turn through two doors. The toilet is positioned low; there are no grab-handles and the room is small and cramped. If a person needs a carer, there is no room for that carer and no chance of dignity maintained. Grab-handles would be a help.

Spot of brunch before a trip to the castle with my teenager son. Two lovely Lincolnshire sausage baps served by friendly waiting staff in a nice location. My wife’s jacket potato filling was not as described on the menu and when she pointed this out the owner picked up a menu and proceeded to argue that it was. Under the jacket potato section it wasn’t but elsewhere it was. The proprietor offered her an alternative filling and beans were accepted. We heard her remark to the waitress that ‘ she can wait’ and we were literally put to the back of the queue. We should have left, but expecting the said beans quickly, I had started my baguette. My wife complained again and was advised that other foods were in the microwave. It’s a small place and with customers and staff back and forth as there was outside seating, the door constantly left open, a complaint badly handled, it was a miserable experience.

Nice little tea room close to cathedral and castle. Noticeboard had fantastic deal of £4.35 for cherry scone, jam, cream and tea. We ordered 2 of these deals and I asked the young lad if I could have an Earl Grey and he agreed. When I went to pay it was £2.15 more for one Earl Tea teabag instead of a breakfast tea bag! Overall it was still a bargain as the scone was delicious but they should be clearer about the costs.

Sat outside - very pleasant. Service slow but we weren't in a hurry. Ordered two jacket potatoes with a Marie rose sauce and sausage sandwich. Jacket potatoes were hard and uncooked, Marie rose sauce had never seen any Worcester sauce or similar. ONE sausage in three slices of bread. NO VALUE FOR MONEY WHATEVER. Complained about the jacket potatoes but were told 'they were cooked this morning, they're hard because that's the kind of potatoes they are'. Well, the two we had weren't cooked, end of. Avoid the place. Just around the corner is Browns Pies - tuck in and enjoy. No apology, no offer of money off because of spoiled meal. To Grayz I say 'there are plenty of food outlets in Lincoln, buck up or sink'. And please, ditch the 'z' in Grays.

This is our preferred cafe for lunch when we visit Lincoln. Called in today at about 12.30, it was busy but we managed to get a table inside, then waited & waited for someone to take our order. Meanwhile I heard someone in the kitchen shout “no more food orders except for customers already at a table” I finally got someone’s attention I asked to order & then was promptly told they were not taking any food orders! We had already waited 20 mins for someone to take our order. We left the cafe very disappointed, but as where leaving the waitress said we could now order! This is very poor customer service, I appreciate they were busy & while we were waiting two customers enquired about there orders, long wait & drinks missing from their orders. If you are not taking food orders at lunch time, then perhaps you should advise customers when they come in & not make them wait. I know the weather was good, sunny for September but perhaps get more staff in and get better organised. We shall not be visiting this cafe ever again & my is advice is not bother unless you just want a drink & are prepared to wait.

My sister and I had visitors over to Lincoln Castle on a busy Sunday so we tried Grayz Tearooms. I wasn't feeling too optimistic as we were a large party - five adults, a three year old and a little one in a pushchair. We had already been turned away at another cafe. As soon as I entered the waitress asked how many and when I said five adults plus two children she immediately put two tables together for us, found crayons and a colouring book for the three year old and a booster seat for the baby. Service was swift and efficient including plating up a shared meal for the children. The food was lovely. I visited again with a friend a couple of weeks later and again the service and food were both good. Again it was busy, but we were served efficiently and in a friendly manner.

I thought that £3.20 (£2.25 plus £0.95 for an extra shot which may have been on the menu but I failed to notice) was excessive for a double espresso, probably the most expensive of all the city cafes, compared to a popular chain price of £2.40 and £2.25 in the excellent nearby Stokes Lawn Cafe. We then ordered food, against my better judgement. 1 x Tuna sandwich and 1 x sausage baguette took a further 30 minutes to arrive. Went here with my wife for breakfast, a bacon sandwich and a Boston sausage baguette. Given the high price of the sandwiches I was expecting great things, I was however sorely disappointed. The bacon itself was good quality but it was served between two thin pieces of tasteless white sliced bread, spread with margarine (it may have been butter but it was tasteless). The baguette was also of the mass produced tasteless variety, though the sausage was of a reasonable quality. For £10 for 2 sandwiches I expect much better.

Saw that they do a nice selection of sandwiches but we'd already eaten. Very welcoming and pleasant staff, will visit again when next in Lincoln.

Called in for a coffee before starting a tour of the castle. Really nice coffee served in pleasant surrounding. Service very good. Wanted to go back for afternoon tea but they had shut by the tea we got there - some of the tea shops do seem to close before 5pm.

Found this place by chance on the way back to the car after visiting Lincoln. Very pleasant staff offered a very good service. Just a sandwich and a coke but still very recommendable.

Amazing food. I was very very pleased with my visit. I was served by a woman called Emma with blonde shoulder length hair and glasses. She was so lovely and welcoming! Gave me exactly what I wanted unlike last time when I was served by Sharon who I found to be quite rude. There was a good selection of food that was reasonably priced. I’m very happy with this service. Thank you. Also love your cream cake!

Poor service, order was not taken until we had been sat for 1hr 30. When food was served, potatoes and veg were cold except where gravy was poured. Starter was not as ordered. Altogether a great disappointment for a Fathers day meal.

Went to the Fox with 5 friends (couples). This pub is close to home however we dont tend to go in there often. The night started well, drinks were flowing and we were having a good time. We overheard one of the bar staff asking for illegal substances, one of the group made a passing comment, and another lady (presumably the owners wife) stormed upto the table stating she'd be "watching us like a hawk". We calmly explained that we thought she was directing her hawk like vision at the wrong group and maybe she should assemble her nest a tad closer to home... She was clearly and unfortunately intoxicated herself (professional for working behind a bar, I know) and demanded that we must leave after our next drink. Despite working behind the bar, she was outside drinking and smoking most the night, one of the group asked her friends for a lighter, to which her and her group said "do not answer"- as if we werent human or present. We are local people and felt personally attacked by the lady's mannerisms . Especially baring in mind she was a senior member of staff (owners wife!) We put plenty of hard earned money in the pub tonight and were left feeling like criminals, we even volunteered to be searched to prove our innocence, which was promptly refused. All we wanted was a few nice drinks at our local pub for a change and were left feeling like outsiders by individuals (staff) who are clearly incapacitated and incapable of deciphering between drug users and young working class persons trying to enjoy a drink. At the end of the night I went to talk to the actual owner about how we'd been treated, expecting some clarity and lord forgive me for asking but perhaps an apology. Baring in mind this man is supposed to own several pubs, he seemed to have absolutely nil sense of customer service and even though he wasnt in the pub most of the night night was talking to me like I was in the wrong, solely due to his intoxicated wife (staff member) giving him an extremely one sided version of events - which were totally incorrect. One of our group didn't appreciate the way he spoke to me, and was rude back - as anyone with a backbone would be after the way we were treated tonight. He raised his voice and declared us all barred, despite me talking to him politely and calmly, all he was worried about was that he'd had a long drive, not that us as a group have lives, problems, and jobs too. Its unfortunate that a pub in such a good location treats its local punters so poorly after spending a small fortune in their unkept pub. Other than us, there were two people in the pub - I now understand why. I appreciate there are two sides to every story, however other bar staff have since said we were treated unfairly and that the owner and wife were extremely rude to us as a group. Its disgusting and people like this should not be running a pub. Until new ownership is found we wouldn't dream of returning even if the man (who'd through no fault of ours had a long drive) thought with a level head for a second and decided to unbar us. We are young couples who felt discriminated against through totally poor judgement tonight and what was supposed to be a great night out with friends for a change has been morphed into a poor display of total incompetence by its own owners. This pub is always closing down/re-opening and with owners as such it would come as no suprise to happen again. Hope new ownership comes and we can make the Fox a proper local.
