So dissappointed we came as a family as we had done for the last 8 weeks sorry but we won't be returning so dissappointed we arrived at 15.40 and the food we had was below average my steak was just pure fat and we sat waiting for our table to be cleared for 40 minutes not acceptable in my eyes and it wasn't as if the restaurant was busy. So so dissappointed as all our other visits had been perfect think the management have to look at who actually cooked my steak or even purchased it as it was about 3 inches in size and half of that was fat ..... whoever was actually serving especially when our table including 2 little boys sat waiting watching your staff eat their meals (yes I appreciate they have to eat) but not take the mick and to top it all I went to the loo and there was no toilet roll aaasrgh we had spent £ 162.50 you would expect more ....... so upset as my partner had just died as well life is hard

Decided to pop to the Grapes for lunch this afternoon with our 2 westies. The decor is lovely since renovation and it’s very welcoming. Bowls and water available for the dogs. Staff very welcoming and attentive. We had a steak sandwich and a chicken & bacon sandwich with fries. Both were very tasty and we enjoyed. We had 2 sausages for the fur babies. Would highly recommend.

Had a fabulous lunch here on a quiet Monday. Took my dog who was spoiled rotten by the staff. Had a beautifully cooked seabass and my friend opted for a steak sandwich which she said was perfect. Pub has very nice decor with a lovely outside area overlooking the village green. Will definitely be back

Was really looking forward to eating in this pub, we have been there a couple of times for a drink and thought it was a lovely pub. However, sadly our views have changed. First our table was directly under the air con unit which was quite loud and we were cold. We did ask if they could turn it down or if we could move tables. The waitress said that she would see to it and request it was turned down. It wasn’t! One member of our party had to change her chosen meal 4 times as they were out of the first 3 she chose. I ordered my starter but requested that the mayonnaise be left off as I am dairy intolerant. The waitress took note of my allergy, however the dish came up with a huge pot of mayonnaise. For my main I ordered the vegan mushroom pie which came with chips or mash. Even though it clearly said ‘vegan’ I asked for chips and mentioned to the waitress that the mash might contain butter, she agreed so obviously not a vegan dish. When our meals arrived my pie looked exactly like the steak and ale pie that a family member had. And it was steak, however the only difference was that my pie had a wooden sign in it saying ‘allergy’ Was that an after thought when the kitchen staff realised that they had cooked the wrong meal and was hoping that I wouldn’t notice. I had to reorder my meal which took another 20 minutes, but whilst waiting we heard the chef ask our waitress if I wanted vegan chips, ( so obviously not cooked in beef fat ) We also had to ask for a jug of water 3 times! It was obviously a bad day for the waitress as we heard her apologise to a couple of other parties about forgetting items that they had ordered. So we won’t be going back!

Went for lunch but wasn't impressed by the choices the lunch time menu offered so ordered from the main menu. Starters, mains and desserts were OK but nothing to warrant a second visit. The staff were a little slow in-between courses which was strange as there was only a couple of other diners in. Didn't appreciate paying £8.60 for two soft drinks nice décor but not the Ritz.

Went to try the refurbished Grapes and went on a Monday lunch time for a quick sandwich and cup of tea ( 2 people). The refurb looks good and welcoming. Menu for lunch also looked good with options from quick bites to more substantial meals. Went to order sandwich and tea and just at point of payment was informed there was a 20 min wait. Decided to carry on and paid. 3 minutes later was informed at the table that it was now a 40 min wait. Requested that it was a quick bite and not main meal. Told it was very busy. Place had a few tables/ customers but nothing that many especially on a Monday lunchtime. Asked for a refund and left. Went down the road to a local cafe and was served within 5 minutes and place was twice as busy. Shame as wanted to try out new venue/ food but if you can't get some of the basics right then it difficult to support. Will give it another go another time as want to support local establishment but seeing other reviews I think the slow service is a constant issue. All the money spent on the refurb but clearly not enough/ right staff.

We ate here twice last summer and were so disappointed we said never again. But having seen it's under new management, today we decided to see if the food had improved. It certainly has. As vegetarians we both chose the mushroom and ale pie. Delicious, hot and no raw vegetables in sight. Well cooked and very tasty. As it was a warm sunny day we then enjoyed a fair priced bottle of rose in the sun while watching village life. The staff were friendly and professional. I'm glad we decided to give The Grapes another try. We will definitely come back. Thank you for a lovely afternoon.

Visited for lunch on a Saturday. The service was very poor. Waited 30 mins for our order to be taken having to remind the staff twice that we were ready to place our food order. I ordered the chicken dish from the lunch menu. What a disappointment, two slices of dry chicken, rock hard carrots and the supposedly roast potatoes were small boiled potatoes. Nobody came to the table to check with us on the food, when I complained at the bar on check out I got a response from waitress that I was wrong to complain ' my darling ' When I pulled her up on the way she addressed me she scuttled off. I further discussed the issue with a deputy manager who apologised for everything and waived the bill. As somebody who lives in the village I have to say my 'local' leaves alot to be desired.

On the 11th July 2015 my comment was on here: "Chef & Brewer at its best!", how can an establishment deteriorate to its current level other than due to extremely ineffective management and a gross lack of attention to detail in all areas. I am so disgusted, I am prepared to share with the company my identity via my receipt. Order 8622, Table 31, dated 24 July 2015 21:01.We booked a table for 7.30pm, arriving at 7.15pm and were shown to our table immediately by a female who eventually was identified as the duty manager. We were given menus and then were subjected to her tale of woe as she proceeded to write down the items which were no longer on the menu. The extensive list was as a result of being busy since the previous week! ( obviously the re order process for stock replenishment needs urgent review by management, but does indicate the products are not locally sourced). We ordered drinks which subsequently arrived after 20 minutes, at which time our our was taken, yet again due to additional shortages the original selections could not be served. The alternative choice of "Fishermans Catch" was also subject to change as we were now advised "whitebait" was no longer available, additional gougons would be substituted. The shared starter arrived after a further prolonged wait, the presentation and quality of the food offered left a lot to be desired, and was not appertising or pleasant to taste. "Oh dear" was the response from the inadequate male waiter when we made comment as he removed the offending platter! After a further 30 minutes the mains arrived! These were disgusting, swimming in none compatible sauces, the meals had been heated or reheated in a microwave, the presentation and quality of the food was unacceptable! Our inadequate male waiter asked if the meal was ok, from the majority of the food left on the plates it was obvious there was a problem, comments we made went straight over his head as he removed the offensive offerings. Other diners were also complaining and were very disappointed. On paying the bill, we again made comment about our overall dissatisfaction, in return we were advised by a young female waiter there were staffing problems in all areas both front of house and in the kitchens, at this point the apparent duty manager ignored the situation and waked away, rather than take control! It is not hard to realise how this establishment has deteriorated to this level, the experience was appalling, we would never come here again and would advise others accordingly as it is SO BAD!

This was my birthday and we were hoping for an enjoyable evening.WE felt badly let down mainly by the service. We arrived at 7.20pm fir 7.30pm booking, and didn't receive our main meal until 9.0pm. The starter was poor, the main meal was Ok didn't bother wirh a sweet because it got too late, and when we got the bill we had to complain because we had been overcharged. We thought the waiting staff were young and inexperiencedand it seemed to get a little chaotic even though the restaurant was relatively quiet.

Having been many times before, went with my daughter and sister for tea, booked for 7pm, still no food at 8pm, chased with the waitress, who said it was coming. When it arrived it was shockingly bad; the presentation, portion size & quality were all below the usual high standard - we ordered the sea food platter & we're unsure as to the freshness of the prawns, as the taste and smell were off! We asked to speak to a manager and were palmed off with the poor waitress who tried her best to help. Hopefully management are reading these reviews and making changes as it's such a shame such a great venue is rapidly declining.

lovely location- frontage looks across Area Green- you can watch cricket matches. Free wifi and pristine toilets. The tomato soup was home made and very tasty. The gourmet sausage was tasty and way better than the normal shop bought ones. The belly pork well done- melting and so tasty with the mash and gravy. Unfortunately the green beans were well over-done in a microwave. Onion rings thick and slightly over battered- likely frozen. Baked apple under-done.The real pity is that when told that the beans were over done the reply was not an apology but simply "I will let him know".Yes, I would go again and would expect better the potential is definitely there.

I believe that the manager and his partner left fairly recently taking some of the staff with them including chefs so the new manager seems to be struggling to get good chefs. The menu was impressive but when we were seated, we were advised of a number of dishes that were unavailable. However we chose the whitebait and Stilton mushrooms for starters and had we read a recent review before visiting, we possibly wouldn't have gone for the whitebait as it was again over cooked, verging on burnt. The mushrooms however were very tasty. For mains we ordered a steak and a chicken burger. The steak was over cooked as we had asked for medium rare and there was no hint of rare, but it was quite tasty though the peppercorn sauce was a bit runny. The chicken burger was described as having chorizo and avocado but there was no sign of the avocado though it was quite tasty. The waitress was very pleasant and helpful but the management really need to get the kitchen organised and staff in place who can cope with the menu.

I booked a table because I had been to my sons University graduation award ceremony in Blackpool. We ordered Whitebait and Pate starters. The Whitebait was burnt, the Pate was thin and translucent with 2 thick pieces of bread and cheap tasting chutney. I had to ask for some butter. I asked for a jug of water and when it arrived had to ask for glasses. We both ordered Brewers Chicken and it was presented in a small pan on the plate, it tasted like it had been cooked for a long time. The small portion of peas were served in a small dish and came with a handful of chips. We ordered 2 x Millionaires Cheesecake which was so heavy and covered in a sickly sweet sauce, not given the option of having the sauce or not, it should be served in a separate dish. A couple on the next table were complaining about how tough their steak's were. The Grapes relies solely on outside visitors, very few local people eat there because of poor quality food. The last time we ate there, a waitress dropped a glass which smashed on the table and we had to ask for clean cutlery, napkins, glasses and a new bottle of wine because the glass went in the glasses of wine. She was reluctant to bring a new bottle of wine and had to go and get the Manager before it was replaced. It will be a long, long time before I return to eat there again, if ever. I don't expect to have a response from this feedback but I put the same message direct to the Grapes. I am not sure if it is under new management but if it is, maybe a wrong move.

We had walked a fair distance to walk to get here from a holiday village and couldn't be bothered going anywhere else despite their rudeness.Eventually managed to get head waitresses attention and asked for a table . She basically snarled at us bar or restaurant and we decided to stay in the bar. We had to go and fetch menus ourselves despite waitresses walking about doing nothing and our order was taken at the bar by a barman who seemed to prefer serving locals. The food was edible but average and I have no idea why this place rates so highly.I had read previous reviews where tourists/visitors had received poor service and chose to ignore them. More fool me obviously my custom is not as valued as the locals so I won't be returning during my holiday.

Has a family we have eaten out here 3 times , the second time we thought it wasn't great food but give them the benefit of the doubt and went back for a birthday meal, now wish that i hadn't wasted £80.60 on rubbish food. That is harsh really because they can cook chips. I ordered the seafood grill priced £15.49cod loin, salmon and sea bass fillets with garlic & coriander glazed wild Patagonian king prawns, chips, pesto roasted red onion & red peppers and smoked Hollandaise sauce. In reality the fish was extremely dry and overcooked it was like beef jerky , i didn't see any garlic & corriander glaze and if it was hiding then i certainly couldn't taste it. The menu also claims that it came with wild patagonian king prawns , actually it was A prawn that was so dry it was impossible to peel. Why didn't i complain? well it took so long between the starters and the main to come i actually wanted to eat and go and couldn't risk waiting another 50 minutes for it to come back. The chicken burger was very dry and even BBQ sauce and coleslaw couldn't give it life. The steak that was ordered rare came back medium so i would advise order it blue and it might hit the ball park of how you like it. I'm not even going to go into the 2 comment on the 2 kids meals , except the one child is still trying to swallow his dry burger and he is still hanging in there.Overall we won't be back as there is many great places to eat in the area , if you like chips and dry tastless food and an hour to kill between starters and main course then this is the place for you. I'm sure i will get a head tilting reply from the grapes saying sorry that you had a bad experience Blah de Blah and don't let it affect you coming back. We wasted £80 and a ruined birthday meal. The only tip i would leave for your staff is learn to cook and serve

As always the staff were first class and very pleasant but the fish main dish for one of our party was very much undercooked. It was sent back and when returned it was obviously from under a micro wave as it was now dry and tasteless. Why was a fresh fish dish not provided? One other member of the party could not eat her sausage and mash and that also went back. After three of us had finished our meal the steak in place of the fish dish was presented and that was fine. The menu to my mind is not anywhere near as it used to be. No more smoked salmon (now a type of salmon pate) on the once excellent sharing fish platter, what happened to the gammon, always a good choice? We did receive a free round of drinks and only charged for two main courses but the damage was already done. Shame really.

We enjoyed ourselves so much on previous visits that we decided to take the elderly mother-in-law along with us this time - but almost wished we hadn't bothered when the first staff member to come to our table as we browsed menus was a really pushy waitress, Rather than just take our drinks order, she proceeded to recommend certain wines to the two non-driving adults in our party and tried to suggest a bottle when they only wanted a glass each - almost as if she was on commission from the wine company. And when it came to the driver's standard choice of mineral water, the question was did we want a big bottle for the table? Very off-putting when we were simply trying to enjoy a meal out on a rather sombre family anniversary at a venue specially chosen because we have found it previously so quietly and memorably efficient. Thankfully we didn't see that particularly staff member after that and everything else about the visit, especially the food and value for money, were more typically excellent.

Our party had other dishes including burgers, fish and chips, steak and ale pie and hunters chicken. All was super tasty. We also treated ourselves to deserts which were again excellent and tasty.Easy to see why it was so busy,a really good place serving great food.

for the 2nd time in a couple of months we enjoyed having a celebration meal at the grapes. Yet again there was nothing to complain about, the staff, cliental, quality of food , price and overall experience made it an extremely good evening out, this combined with the ability to use Tesco clubcard vouchers made it a top quality evening for a fast food price.

The in-laws came here for an evening meal on Wednesday and said it was excellent so we dragged them back the following evening, with our two kids in tow and we were not disappointed. After deciding what we all wanted to eat, I went up to the bar and was served straight away by Danny. He promptly took the food order and served the drinks, delivering them to us in the next room, even offering to set up a tab so we could settle one bill at the end. The food arrived in good time, no lengthy delays and it was all superb. I had the slow cooked pork belly which just melted in the mouth. There were two rib-eye steaks ordered and these were a good size and cooked perfectly to order. The kids meals were good value for money and my son was impressed with the "chocolate flowerpot". I had the plum & ginger crumble. It was delicious and made a change from the usual apple or rhubarb. The chocolate and coconut torte was superb according to my father-in-law. I can also recommend the Bees Knees hand pulled bitter. Overall, a super dining experience and would recommend. Service, food, drinks, cleanliness and value for money were all excellent.

After a day out in St Annes stopped on way home. although we had not booked the staff went out of their way to accommodate us. Sandy are waitress was friendly helpful and provided great service with open helpfullness from the various beers available to the menu. The quality of food was the best i have tasted for a long while especially for a group owned hotel. Well doneDavid W

My extended family and I visited The Grapes for lunch on the day of the 'Cars on the Green' charity event and had a thoroughly excellent experience there. Despite the obvious 'higher than normal' number of customers due to the village event, Sandy, our host and waitress gave us her undivided attention, and made a real fuss of the younger members of our party. I have to say, she could not have made us any more welcome, and nothing was too much trouble for her. The food, beer and wine were all excellent, as was the ambiance and décor of the pub, giving a real 'village pub' feel. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place, and look forward to my return visit.

I'm currently on holiday at Ribby Hall which is just a short drive away from the grapes or a nice walk if that's your thing, I came here by reccomendation from my mum and we were not disappointed! The food was incredible, my boyfriend had the rib eye which was cooked to perfection and I had the slow cooked rib of beef which just melted in my mouth! Great selection of drinks which was perfect as I'm so fussy when it comes to alcohol and the staff just can't do enough for you, especially Niamh our waitress who was lovely and bubbly and the lovely chef who rang a taxi for us and even gave us advice for taxis in the future! Amazing quality food and very good prices! I will definitely be coming again and telling all my friends and family! Also the millionaires cheese cake is AMAZING!

We visited here at a lunchtime. Reasonably busy however a strange absence of staff at the bar. After finally getting served and enjoying a nice sunny drink before the meal, we were shown to a table, not exactly where we wanted to sit but maybe we should have reserved.Great choice of food from a lunchtime special and a main menu. Some very interesting and unusual choices. Two of us went for sirloin steak, one was good the other disappointing and quite fatty. The gourmet sausages were well received. My feta and watermelon salad was very refreshing. All in all an acceptable meal and using our third off voucher it was a very very good deal. The service was what I would call a little brusque and certainly not like the last time we went, which was faultless. We would visit again

The pub is in a lovely setting in Wrea Green, the food could best be described as reasonable quality pub food. For the price of the food I was expecting far better presentation although I have to say that the food was tasty and well cooked. On the basis of my experience this visit I wouldn't normally rush back but I want to give the much (self) acclaimed grill choices a chance.

My hubby and I arrived for lunch.. we had the starters first.. mine was the cream of spinach soup.. very nice.. my hubby had bubble and squeak... okish...For mains my hubby had the butchers platter... it became obvious most of this food is reheated in the microwave.. one of the sausages was that hard it had set like concrete... any chef worth his salt would not send this out.. I ordered the rump steak... it looked lovely until I took a bite.. and three pieces later I gave up... extremely tough and unenjoyable.. we told the waiting on staff and they promptly took the meal prices off the bill... the only drawback here was getting the feeling we were in the wrong somehow, very uncomfortable exchange.. im a massive steak fan.. have it very regular so I know it wasn't just me having to chew a bit.. I'm aware of each steak cut and I have to say I've had better £3 steaks from Aldi... sad but true..Needless to say, we probably won't return for another meal even though we have been a few times in the last few years... pity..

Had a lovely lunch with 8 of my family at The Grapes Hotel last Monday bank Holiday. There was plenty to choose from on the menu and everyone found something to their liking. The food was well presented and tasty and the ambiance was very pleasant. This is a lovely place for family get to- gethers and special occasions. We were not rushed and the staff were very pleasant indeed ; nothing was too much trouble. I would like to mention Sandy as she did most of the waiting for us and she could not have been more obliging. So thank-you all for a lovely meal. We will be back.

We have been visiting The Grapes for many years and have to say it has never been better. Good menu allied to wonderful non-intrusive but attentive service. Whilst now being part of a chain The Grapes retains its individuality and village pub appeal. Good wine selection and lovely local beers. Congratulations to all the team.

This was our first visit following recommendations from friends. We booked a table for5.30 as we had been told that it bets busy on Friday evening. We were shown to our table by Sandy, who looked after us throughout our meal. The menu was short with a good variety and vegetarian options. We all ordered different dishes - Surf and Turf on a sirloin, burger with Stilton, Mixed Grll and Chicken Curry. The food looked good on arrival and we all enjoyed our meals. The decor was smart and the ambience was pleasant. We will return soon.

Looked online to check opening times before going and all said open at 09:00. Arrived at the cafe just after 9 and door was locked with a closed sign on it. Waited a few minutes as thought they were running a bit late for opening which was OK. My partner then asked through the open window around the side what time they were open and he got the reply '9 O'clock' 'Oh it's seven minutes past now' was my partners reply to the person who had replied, who didn't respond further. We waited a few more minutes until someone unlocked the front door and turned the sign around from closed to open then just let the door slam shut. No communication or apology from this member of staff for not opening on time, which we both thought was very rude and didn't make us feel like we wanted to part with our money to a place whose employees obviously weren't bothered. We decided to take our custom to Toby carvery for one of their buffet breakfasts which is only 5 minutes away. We then came back to the lake for a walk around and had a lovely drink from the RSPB visitor centre and a lovely chat with the staff there.
