Granier Bakery Cafe in Brighton and Hove

Great coffee and bakery. Often come here for filled sandwiches/ croissants et. The service is friendly and the prices are good too

Pre Covid in 2019 I visited this bakery and cafe twice and totally loved it and the Tiramisu there was to die for. Post Covd now I visited this place again and it has changed from a great bakery and cafe to a bakery plus candy and soda store and the Tiramisu was soggy and after one bite I threw it away. I tried a coconut cake and it was eaten out of pure hunger and not for my personal delight. The service was flat and the staff didn´t show any interest in offering any service. A huge disappointment and left me sad as I had been dreaming of the pre Covid gory of the pastry at the so called bakery. Going to Brighton again later on this year and this is not on my visit list.

I have been meaning to write this review for ages now but have only just found the time. I visited this cafe with my partner in September last year, we popped in for some breakfast. I ordered a mozzarella panini and my partner a full breakfast and two drinks. On the outside they advertise as selling breakfast for £6.95 and we thought that sounded a great price. We made our way in and ordered our food it came to £29.00 ?!?!? Me and my partner were very confused so went upstairs like we were told and decided to sit down and try and work out why it ended up being so much, when we added it up it should have only been £15 and that is us being generous, so when they bought our drinks over I questioned why I had been charged so much, the manager then quickly went over what we ordered (so fast we didn’t understand) and walked away before I could ask anything else, so I thought I would leave it till the end. The food arrives and two breakfasts and a panini arrives and I realise the mistake so I tell the chef who has bought it over I have only ordered one breakfast and a panini, he says he will go downstairs to speak to the manager (lovely chef). Anyway he comes back up and says the manager wants to speak to me downstairs, which I thought was odd so leaving my food to get cold I go downstairs, i then speak to the manager and say I never ordered two breakfasts and thought I had been over charged. He then tells me now it’s been made I can’t have my money back even though I never ordered it, I am vegetarian so wouldn’t be able eat the breakfast anyway, so I said no I didn’t want this so i want my money back, and he straight up refused to give me my money back, eventually after my partner realised I had been gone for a while, the manager could see there was other customers seeing what was happening, so he threw the money at me. I work in a cafe myself and have never ever experienced anything like this, if I had taken someone’s order wrong I wouldn’t think twice about giving their money back. The food was horrible dry and microwaved and the coffee burnt. I would recommend you hire a new manager who understands customer service and new staff who won’t laugh at a customers disappointment in the company. Will never return and have told many many people about this place. Also you really clean your shop.

Service is poor. Staffs are looks unhappy. It was my second time and both times wrong order and waited too much.

We have visited here today. Busy and short staffed. Was told our drinks would be brought to us within 5 mins. Waited over 20 mins when then I decided to go and find out where our hot drinks were. They were just being completed and was told that it took longer due to being short staffed. I appreciate that but everyone else who was behind us had already had their drinks! I pointed out that I had already paid long before other customers and I was told that once I ordered I should d have waited at the collection point! I then pointed out that I was told by his member of staff to wait upstairs! Fuming is an understatement! He did apologise but found it was a bit lack lustre! Won't be coming here again!

I have during my past trips to Brighton walked by this bakery several times without looking at it. What a shame since the is a jewel in Brighton that people often walk by. The breakfast is amazing, and the pastry to die for. They have two types of Tiramisu that melds in your mouth and gives you a sense of perfection.You better hop in there and try it and it is easy to notice almost in front of Primark :)

Went I. Yesterday for something to eat.Was surprised how reasonable cheap it was.We had scrambled eggs on toast, and cheese and beans on toast. Both £3.50 Good potion sizes too! We had a pot of tea each, can’t really go wrong with tea, sadly the tea pots were chipped. Nice feel about the place. Will eat in there again.Staff were friendly

we had great coffee and a tasty cheese and ham bagel each the cafe was very busy but service was very good. well priced

Total rip off . £3.95 for a slice of takeaway cheesecake and I didn’t even get a full slice. How can they get away with those prices ... can’t see them lasting long.

I ordered on delivaro a lovely chocolate indulgence cake. Was delicious, moist , beautiful chocolate. Will order again

Encontramos este lugar por casualidad en nuestra primera visita a Brighton, lejos de las multitudes principales con un personal amable y acogedor. Justo enfrente de la tienda Primark, ¡es un gran lugar para esperar mientras la esposa compra!

They are have a lot of different choice but really expensive. Staff was looking so tired and unhappy. I will not return. I ordered birthday cake and said daily cake but they gave me frozen cake and ı would like write a birthday note they said okey we can do but when ı collect the cake another staff said we dont have this services if ı knew another shop which is ı can buy a birthday cake ı would go there but ı bought that cake. I m so sorry never return.

Loved the store, location, staff and especially the food. Everything is laid out, clearly and presented well. The staff member was very friendly and extremely helpful offering to cut, heat and split out choice of product. Overall I would highly recommend this place for lunch.

Popped in on our lunch break and was met with blank faced staff who just stared at us. I asked for a menu and the waitress told me ...'we have breakfast or soup' I then asked about the jacket potato that I had seen written on the A board earlier on in the week. The waitress replied with 'oh yeah that aswell'. We proceeded to order 3 with tuna mayo and cheese. 20 Minutes later one arrived with no cheese...I stood up and took it back to ask for the cheese. It returned with one of the other potatoes both with cheese...great! We thought...until I took a bite...the potato was stone cold and not just cold it was FROZEN in the middle...as was my sisters. I took them both back so disgusted and put off my lunch to see the man behind the counter putting the third one into the microwave! I then explained the issue and was met with blank stares and asked 'what do you want then'...whilst the man behind the counter just shook his head in annoyance. I asked for my money back and we left. Disgusting food, disgusting service. I will never return.

Expensive average breakfast, eventually took a Scottish £20 note after being very rude and obnoxious! Only place in Brighton this has been an issue, wont be back!

One of the best cheese and ham toasties that I've had and a fab meat pie. Nice tea in a china pot and china cup and saucer. Nice and warm of a cold day. Nice mellow music not too loud. 10 out of 10.

Excellent baguettes, a little puzzled by some awful reviews. Prices reasonable and friendly service. Coffees were also good.

We bought a doughnut today that was at least 4 days old! Hard like a rock. We bought some tomato empanadas to discover they were all spinach!! Very low standards I think. It is a shame because a couple of months ago I tried the chocolate doughnuts and these were amazing!! But selling old bakery is unacceptable.

Inedible and stale cakes. Both the vegan and non-vegan were stale and clearly old. The staff were pleasant but didn't know the ingredients. I bought this as a treat and had to throw it away. Horrible.

If you get the chance while in Brighton go there. There have the best fresh baguettes and so many desserts. I love them!

Spent over 10 pounds on warm food and bread the sandwich was hardly warm the hotdog was cold , and the churro was like rubber . This was at 1400 hours . Expected much better

Was tempted by the delicious window display when walking past with a few colleagues of mine so we decided to come back and try for ourselves the following day.

Great cafe with friendly staff, lots of seating and wide range of bread, sweet baked goods and sandwiches. Tried the tasty bacon, brie & caramelised onion sandwiches and then had the delicious doughnut bites after- must try!
