Genuinely don't recognise the other reviews. We were shattered after an exhausting hike and were warmly welcomed. We sat in the beautiful garden over looking the river, were served happily and politely by the owner who made polite conversation and the cake, coffee and especially apple pie were excellent, I mean like really good. It was such welcome relief. Thank you

Lovely setting next to river Derwent and Grange Bridge. Nice garden. Owner and waiter were unfriendly. My wife asked for a cappuccino and was abruptly told 'they don't do them, everything we do is on the menu.We had a ham sandwich which was average.Tea and coffee were OK. We had cycled there from Keswick and we asked politely for our water bottles to be refilled. The owner explained that he couldn't have bottles passed between us, but there was an outside tap for us to use. This had 20m of garden hose connected to it.

Food was fine but don’t ask if they serve alcohol - couple by us did - to be told “we’re a tea rooms not a pub - the drinks list is in the menu” - the couple left as I would have if we hadn’t been served - not sure the server has the right vocation! Simple no sorry we don’t would suffice .

No me puedo quejar.

I have no qualms regarding the food, location or price at Grange Bridge Cottage. What I have a problem with was the attitude, arrogance and sheer rudeness of the host, and it seems this is a recurring theme based on the previous reviews. We were a group of 8 (4 kids). Having settled, we were ready to order when I saw that my hungry young son was taking a few bites of my 2 yr old’s leftover sandwich. I quickly told him not to do that and to put it away but no sooner did I say anything when our host began to comment about how we were being rude allowing my kid to eat his own food. We tried to apologise and explain but he was having none of it, reiterating how rude we were being. It had taken us a while to find parking, settle, tie the dog and the 4 kids were starving after a long morning hiking, so I swallowed my pride and we all ordered lunch, my son also had a main, desert and milkshake, so clearly we weren’t ’skimping’. On our departure I said to him that the food was good but to please listen to what guests had to say before telling them they were rude. He then accused me to lying and teaching my children how to lie, he came very close and, being much taller, towered over me, shaking his cutlery in anger! Very bizarre, angry man behaviour. Make sure you behave if you visit!

Returning to this, one of our favourite Lake District Cafes, after a break of almost two years, my wife and I were disappointed in a number of ways. My wife has a severe allergy to egg (life threatening) so we asked if the scones contained egg and were told that they did, so tried the toasted tea cake which strangely was also said to contain egg and finally asked about toast which we were told was only available for toasted sandwiches. So settling on one scone and two teas, I was myself shocked to receive a kind of crumbly warm cake instead of the requested scone. This was obviously an attempted scone containing egg instead of the correct raising agents, not Glaser with egg which sometimes happens. Either way it was unpleasant and I had to leave half of it.The cafe is still in an idyllic setting and has a good, though rather expensive menu but do take care with the scones. Also a friendly question about where the loos were by my wife was met with a rather unpleasant ‘there’s a sign over there’ reply, so no longer the friendly welcome we remember

An idyllic place in a very special valley, but today things went very badly wrong. A large family group filled the garden and had an issue with the service - I think they were a scone short (the scones are delicious by the way and not over priced at all). This set off a chain of events that ended in the sound of a blazing row inside, with language that is quite unacceptable. It was not clear who was saying what but to get to a situation which generates this kind of talk over one relatively small item is a sad reflection of the way things operate here. I left with a heavy heart.

The woman bluntly said "you'll have to wait as we are busy". We said that wasn't a problem. A further 10minutes went by standing inside the cafe, the man came for the coffee pot near where we were standing but ignored us, and suddenly the woman shouted through from the kitchen "we haven't got time to serve you". We were obviously shocked by this and definitely won't return. We promptly left.

Nice location, food not bad, if a little expensive, but the staff...well they should get an award for being the grumpiest couple in Cumbria...politness, obviously never heard of the word!

We stopped in on our tour around the lakes. The spot is idyllic - right next to the river with a great view of the double stone bridge that spans the fork in the river. We were there on a beautiful sunny day, which definitely made it great! We sat outside at the benches next to the river and basked in the sun while drinking tea/coffee and eating fabulously light and warm scones with jam and cream. Yum!

This venue is very tempting for the unfamiliar passer-by. DON'T fall for the beautiful riverside location - the couple running it currently should get a gold medal for rudeness. They seem to want to excel each other and could make a great comedy act at the Edinburgh Fringe. But running a cafe they are a disaster.

This tea room has it all. A lovely old-fashioned quaint tea room in a beautiful old building in a lovely hamlet set by the well-known Grange bridge. The food and drink are excellent and the staff wonderful. We visit every year during autumn half-term, and no holiday in Borrowdale would be complete without at least one visit to Grange Bridge Tea Room

A lovely, and unexpected tea room, after being on our feet for several hours of walking and climbing. My friend and I had a really lovely clotted cream tea. The men had Victoria sandwich and carrot cake. All cakes were very good. We sat outside which was very pleasant overlooking the river.

We were passing by and saw this little tea shop. We decided to stop at this one, as it was next to the river and had nice views. We're glad we did stop here, as the service and food were great. We had tea, coffee and both had a toasted tuna sandwich. The sandwich was really tasty, and came with a small coleslaw salad.

Wish I'd read the recent reviews of this place before going in. We remembered it from past years as being a really nice cafe. Nice big pot of tea for two but the cakes were rubbish, like the frozen ones you can get at Costco. The lady and man working there were just not cut out for the hospitality trade; they need to smile and make people feel welcome. Sorry, just not good enough in what is a little gem of a situation.

I travel to the Lake District every six weeks as I am walking the 214 Wainwright fells in 36 walks. I enjoy the views in this part and overall the locals are very friendly to visitors. This place positioned at the entrance to the dirt track that leads to the great campsite should be full of visitors. I pass this everyday on my way out and back in to the campsite.

We stopped here for some drinks and ice creams after having spent the afternoon paddling on Derwent water. The team room has limited parking over the road and this is mostly due to the quaint stream running past and under the bridge that attracts families with nets in hand to go stream/pond dipping. The ice creams were great and the drinks refreshing but it's not the cheapest place. The garden overlooks the stream but isn't that kid friendly due to the slope. Overall it's worth a visit if you're in the area already and in need of a quick pick-me-up.

After a small amount of confusion on how to get served as there was one member of staff fleeing about (I did feel invisible) we sat at the table outside whilst we debated what to do next and the very busy man asked us what we would like. He seemed delighted we only wanted scones and drinks. He was pleasant just seemed very harassed. Mind you the fruit scones with jam and clotted cream were fabulous and scone wise I am I bit hard to please I wish I could put a photo on. Worth a visit but I admit the staff do not seem to cope with demand. Even though it wasn't that busy.

We just love this spot - especially after a lakeside walk or a Catbells / High Spy walk. Good food and drinks without a bill shock - very reasonable and friendly staff. Peaceful and lovely outside tables.

Situated at the head of Derwentwater this tea shop is in an idyllic position with magnificent views. It is ideally situated for walkers and cyclists exploring Borrowdale or the lake circular. Menu was varied and reasonably priced. Will certainly use again.

Average food mostly bought in, but the owner is really not friendly to customers. It's a lovely setting. But I wouldn't go back because of the attitude.i asked is theres veg in the shepherds pie ? Do you mean mixed with the meat ? Of course....all very abrupt and cold. Chocolate cake was bought almost slammed in front of me.no offer of cream or ice cream. Close to rude definately too posh to serve customers.ive never sat in a cafe where all customers are silent before.

Visited this cafe last week whilst holidaying in the Lakes. The man who serviced us was very rude when we complained about the very poor coffee and we felt very uncomfortable and left asap. Like a previous review we found the scones to be poor quality and would agree that they are most likely microwaved. In comparison, the other cafe in Grange was excellent. There is absolutely no need to be this rude to customers.

We attempted to eat here one day during our holiday but couldnt park anywere ( only space for around 6 cars in the village!) so tried again the next day on our way back from walking in Borrowdale. It was a beautiful sunny day & admitedly the setting of the tea room is perfect - right by the river in beautiful gardens. The service apparantly was table service - after waiting ages to be served (there were only 4 others there) my husband went to find someone to take our order which didn't go down well - (2 cream teas). When it arrived a very rude lady brought it to our table & slammed the tray down then just left it there for us to serve ourselves. The scones were terrible - served hot - possibly been microwaved - soggy & tasted like the mass produced rubbish you would find in a cheap supermarket - definately not homemade. Complete waste of money & our time & a huge disappointment especially after making the effort to go there.

Myself and a friend stopped for lunch here, and the lady who served us (probably the owner) was mortified when I asked for ice in my glass for my elderflower drink. I was very brusquely informed that it was a tearoom, not a bar!!

A lovely little Tea Shop its a shame its just not very welcoming when be served by the waiter, the waitress tried to lighten the mood there. When someone asked if they could move away from a noisy table they were told they couldn't as there was on two of them and the table sat 4 people. Not good customer service.

Excellent meal at Lake District pub hotel. Unable to book for lunch, though when we arrived there were reservation signs on tables! Pleasant staff though had to order at bar. Good menu with specials.
