Grandma Lillys in Tendring

Called in for a meal - I had the Chilli Con Carne with white rice and salad and my partner had the Cottage Pie with three veg. The food was very good as was the service. Will definitely go again.

We holidayed in Holland on Sea for a couple of days and enjoyed some great breakfasts at Grandma Lilly's tea room during our stay. The butchers sausages and bacon were a particularly tasty treat (worth ordering extra if you have the full English) and the service was friendly and attentive. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Myself and my daughter went for a treat breakfast on the weekend to celebrate the start of the school holidays, and what a treat it was! The breakfast was huge and delicious! It was all hot, fresh & the staff couldn’t be any nicer. We’ll definitely be returning for our next treat.

Ordered afternoon tea to take away for my mums 85th birthday. The sandwiches l, scones with jam and clotted cream so delicious. Cupcakes and chocolate cake too. Good value for Money and my mum loved it as did the rest of us. Highly recommend. Staff were excellent too.

We ordered the premium buffet with a few extras for my daughter's 30th birthday party and we were very impressed with the prompt service and excellent food which we thought was supplied at a reasonable price. There was plenty for everyone and our guests all said how wonderful it was. I highly recommend Grandma Lilly's for any event you are organising. We shall definitely use them again.

Wow what an amazing breakfast, very welcoming staff, great value and all round lovely experience. Why has it taken me so long to come down! Always had some amazing food delivered but will definitely be back for another visit one day very soon

Grandma Lilly's has become a regular for us because of its lovely food and friendly atmosphere. 9 of us had afternoon tea yesterday (sweet and savoury) celebrating life and friendship... I'm in a wheelchair, and they couldn't be more accommodating. Everyone really enjoyed their afternoon tea, as did my Hubbie who had a doggy bag 😉 We've had various items from their menu and nothing disappoints - the Hubbie also rates the double pie, mash and liqueur on a Friday. I can recommend the carrot cake 🥰 Looking forward to going back to continue working my way through the menu. Thank you ladies, we had a very enjoyable afternoon xx

If I could give this little gem 10 stars it wouldn’t be enough. We ordered 2 roast lamb dinners in the morning, for delivery at 3pm. The food arrived bang on time, piping hot, really good sized portions and all freshly home cooked. It really was delicious. Thank you guys, you’ve got a new regular customer here.

What a friendly and nice little tea rooms. Hubby and I decided to have an afternoon tea and it was absolutely lovely. Made a change to have bagels instead of just sandwiches. The cakes were delicious and the scone just topped it all off beautifully. Definitely worth a visit.

Since moving down to Holland on Sea to look after my 90 year old Nan, Grandma Lily’s has been instrumental, making sure my Nan eats well and going that extra mile. They are always kind, listen and really care. The food is home made, delicious and always hot, they always think about the little details, since being in lock down they have been so good to us both and I will be forever grateful. If you have not tried GLK yet, I seriously could not recommend them high enough. The Roasts are amazing! As is everything else. Carry on the great work, and especially a massive thank you to Sam to always making me feel so welcome and nothing is too much.

Lovely food,and big portion sizes. The lamb with my roast was really tender, the veg and things were cooked perfectly. My friend really enjoyed her meat pie too. There was a good choice on the menu, couldn't resist the syrup pud for dessert. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere and felt Covid safe.Well recommended .

Visited as a family of 4 for my sons birthday as a treat during the Eat out to help out scheme. Called and booked 6 days in advance and even spoke about it being busier during the scheme. At no point was I told that afternoon tea was excluded from the Government applied discount, even though they had opted into it.We sat in and ate, food was nice and plenty of it, although they were understandably busy and service was a little slow which we didn’t mind as we expected this. However when asking for our bill, we were surprised to find out there would be no Government ‘Help out to eat out’ discount applied. When we asked why, we didn’t really get an answer... just that take aways are excluded (which we knew) and afternoon tea? Even though it consisted of sandwiches, tea and cake. Had we have been told in advance we would have chosen differently from the menu being as we only did this as a one off, as a treat for my sons birthday as we understood that it should be in the offer being as it was advertised as part of the eat out to help out scheme. They had two opportunities to explain this before we ordered but failed to do so. Felt disheartened upon leaving. I looked up n the Government website as to why afternoon tea might be excluded in certain establishments but found no answer online either

We booked a table here to have breakfast before we travelled home from clacton. We had taken my parents away and wanted somewhere close by, friendly and a little more quiet. We got there just after 10am and the lady recognised me and let us choose ehatctable we wanted to sit at. We ordered our food and we got our tea served first. Even though we did wait a little while for our food we knew that us was all being cooked freshly so we were happy to wait.The food was very good, lovely and hot and fresh and tasted very good. We had more tea, which was a very good cup of tea! We decided to try this place as it is a local business and bee wanted to support them as they had only just opened up after COVID. We would recommend this tea room and will go back next time we are in clacton.

Despite being the only customers on a beautiful, sunny Saturday, Grandma Lily’s offers a warm and friendly atmosphere and staff. They offer a lovely range of hot and cold food which was delicious. I’m not a fan of eating in silence so some ambient background music would have been excellent, but overall, I’d happily return here next time in the area. Great job!

Due to shielding we had the Home delivery service which was spot on they arrived on time the food was delicious and hot I would definitely recommend this to everyone we will be trying the restaurant next when we are no longer shielding

Popped in for a snack of Bacon sandwich and a cappuchino. But a Gentleman had to go out and get some Bread, what shambles, not good workmanship. Ive been in catering for over 40 years and always made sure we had enough food in. Also the Bacon was stone cold due to gentleman going to get the bread. Also the Cappuchino tasted horrible. Will never visit again. Keep to Tescos in future.

We let them know we are on our way and they go the extra mile. Always good food smiley faces and the right price. Just like your mum used to make your afternoon tea.

Visited friends for a few days and visited Grandma lillies, our first impressions where how lovely and cosy it looked, we then went on to order our food when it arrived the service was excellent by the way the food was freshly cooked and the service was 5☆ would definitely recommend so thank you to all Involved at grandma lillies in particular Michelle so once again thank you for a lovely experience.

This was my second visit to Grandma Lilley's and it certainly won't be my last. A wide choice of meals and snacks with friendly staff and a warm and friendly atmosphere. Food is cooked to perfection and there is a wide and varied menu including a specials board. Whether it's a hearty breakfast, a cool varied salad or a satisfying roast dinner Grandma Lilley's have it all at very reasonable prices. I would definitely recommend that you visit and see for yourself what this restaurant has to offer. I would highly recommend.

Went there with my friend Pam. A nostalgic, old fashioned place. Looks lovely not only outside but also inside.Place is clean and staff are friendly. We both had roast dinner.Meat was cooked and tender also vegetables tasted nice and fresh but Yorkshire puddings were undercooked inside and I don’t know what sort of tea it was but it had a greyish colour and didn’t taste like a proper tea. Overall food was edible only a littlle disappointment with Yorkshire puddings and cheap brewed tea.

A small friendly restaurant situated in the centre of this seaside town. Clientele is mainly middle-aged to elderly but it is family friendly and children welcome. Excellent home cooked food and service but to some extent disadvantaged by its own success as wait for meals can be lengthy when cover numbers are high. Highly recommended.

Poppèd in for a coffee and cake. Love this place old fashioned and reminiscent of the old days. Family owned cakes home baked. Good value.

Grandma Lilly's is a pleasant little restaurant on the main road through Holland on Sea. There is no car park but a parking space can usually be found kerbside. Adequate menu, we have only had lunch there but it came to the table piping hot and well presented. Only downside was that the food came to the table before the cutlery...could the tables not be laid out ready? Staff are friendly and obliging. Worth a visit if you are looking for a reasonably priced meal in pleasant surroundings.

Small cafe with seats for perhaps twenty people. Parking on the road outside. Food is freshly prepared ( so you'll need to wait a bit for it to be served ) but well cooked and, in the main, home-made and delicious. Clean and pleasant inside. Staff seem pleasant enough. Quite cheap as well. Shame they don't open on Sundays for Sunday roast though.

What a wonderful gem Grandma Lilly's is. Michelle our waitress is so friendly and professional, nothing is too much trouble. Definitely service with a smile. We have just moved to the area and she helped with so much information.

I have been a couple of times for mid morning coffee and cake which is average to good value, however have had basic lunch, price mid range, however had to wait nearly an hour for meal with only six other people sitting there who also seemed to having to wait. The decor is pleasant and friendly

We go regularly for Breakfast. Lovely food, well prepared, friendly welcome from chatty staff ( Michelle is straight out of Downton Abbey lol). All at a very reasonable price. Hope it will be our regular haunt for many years to com.

I regularly visit this restaurant and am always greeted by friendly staff. The food is always fresh and good value for money. This is a lovely little restaurant that I would recommend.

booked table for 4 of us for lunch took 20 mins for drinks to arrive I ordered a coke and I got Pepsi I'm allergic to that so couldn't drink it then took another 40 mins for 2 gammon steaks and 2 turkey dinners when we asked told.it was taking so long as waiting for the gammon steaks.? why ? we couldn't eat them anyway as soon salty chips were soggy the turkey roasts the Yorkshire puddings were uncooked inside looked and tasted like scrambled egg waitress did replace them with 1 pre made Yorkshire but there was actually 2 people so they had to share the stuffing came out 5 mins after dinners the carrots were huge slices but rock hard then when we paid she keep the 3.50 change as a tip we sat and waited for the change to come but it didn't food and services wasn't getting a 3.50 tip u must be joking also the specials we were told was steak and kidney pie lasagna and gammon but they are on the menu anyway so not specials on the menu is steak and kidney pudding but they had run out awful won't return and we were so shocked about the tip we just left ruined lunch thanks

Lured by the nostalgic name of this cafe we called in for a coffee break expecting the old fashion tea/coffee and cakes served in the timeless manner of yesteryear.With a limited selection of cakes we ordered scones and tea and coffee from the menu. The scones were off so we ordered replacement teacakes instead. Not impressed by the frozen packs of butter which made it difficult to spread. Coffee had to be brewed first, tea was served in metal teapot not like grannies porcelain one. All in all not a memorable experience best give it a miss.

Had a lovely visit with my mother and partner on our holiday, we went here a few times for tea and cake, the road was busy, but once inside it was lovely. The staff are friendly and we had a lovely time, the atmosphere was welcoming and we found the cakes fresh and yummy.

Despite living locally, this was my first visit and it was lovely. Good, fresh homemade food, in a traditional surrounding and reasonably priced. Will definitely be visiting again soon.

Went here for a late lunch and a breakfast wasn't disappointed at all.Friendly staff and very helpful. food was tasty and hot.We sat in the back room with was comfortable and clean the lady opened the door for us to give a nice little breeze.Quite a nice choice of food on offer although we went a little late for the lunch so they had run out of veg but what we chose was very enjoyable. Desserts were lovely as well all home madeWill return again if ever in clacton again

We have been here many times and are never disappointed. Freshly cooked and friendly helpful staff. Clean and tidy and parking outside roadside and there is a car park near by. Good prices.

Staff were friendly and inviting, nothing was too much trouble. Lots to choose from, and the service was very good. The food was very enjoyable. We will definately be going back again.

We sat at the front of the restaurant and the tables were uncomfortably close together. We ordered a cup of tea, milkshake, a prawn baguette and sandwich. The tea was very milky and was replaced, the milkshake wasn't as cold as I would have liked but drinkable. The sandwich was ok but would have been nicer if made with better bread. We kept being told that the baguette wouldn't be much longer, when it eventually arrived it turned out that it had just been cooked and was hot, which would have been lovely if it hadn't been filled with prawns in marie-rose sauce.

We have been here so many times and each time we have received fantastic service, the waitress is happy, bubbly and makes you feel really welcome. The food has always been first class and lots of choice for a tea room. We especially like to visit in the winter when the fire is on, very cosy on a winters day! looking forward to my next visit already. I would recommend a visit if you're passing by.

We booked Grandma Lilleys for a 93rd birthday party for 20 guests last Saturday and can honestly say that everyone had the most wonderful time. The room at the back was beautifully laid out and with plenty of space to seat everyone comfortably and the warm & friendly greeting on arrival set the tone for a very enjoyable day. The food was delicious -propper home cooking at its best - (can thoroughly recommended the steak pie !) All the courses were served quickly & efficiently even though the restaurant was packed to capacity ! The word must be getting out now that this little gem in Holland on sea is well worth a visit. Big thanks to all for creating such a happy, memorable day.

We're often popping into Grandma Lillys at lunch time. There is always a lovely warm and friendly atmosphere, the service is excellent can't be faulted from both the waitress and all out the back cooking our lovely lunches. Even if something you fancy is not advertised on the menu they will do their up-most to make it for you. I would highly recommend you give Grandma Lillys a try next time you're passing.

Booked GRandma Lilly's for an 80th Birthday. Food very good staff excellent couldn't be more helpful. Unfortunately the cake was a let down it wasn't cooked in the centre.Would definitely recommend it for the food.

Staying in Holland on sea for kids holiday,had mum and dad pop over for couple of days and saw grandma Lily's place,best place to take nanny and grandad,We went tue27th October as it was my daughters bday the next day,we were greeted with a lovely friendly waitress even though she was very busy,as there was 6 of us she put us in the back room which is lovely ,the food was really great value for money. The service was always with a smile and very efficient ,I'm just really sorry I didn't take the ladies name.Will definitely be back .

This restaurant is excellent, with friendly helpful staff who catered for us and our children and grandchildren for my husbands 79th birthday. It is only small, and the food is freshly cooked on the premises. Excellent value for money and child friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for them

Just love this place so great takes you back to those times of when you could chill out in such warm surroundings They go over board to help disabled customers in winter they got a real fire brilliant

A family run coffee shop/restaurant which offers home made meals. Great choice of breakfasts, coffee, luncheons and Sunday lunches. We enjoy their homemade cheese or fruit scones on a weekly basis. Special events can be catered for as there is large seating capacity in the back room. There are daily special dishes. Service is friendly and it is a welcoming 'meeting place' for the locals as well as holidaymakers. Good value for money. There is on the road parking outside or a nearby free car park.

We visited this establishment on a Sunny day trip with our dog. This seaside destination is 2 hours away from where we live and had identified this establishment on Trip Advisor. We had tried ANOTHER place down the road, but it was uncared for, grubby and the toilets were discussing. Were were GLAD that we came here the staff were helpful and attentive at all times and it was clean. The drinks order was taken and swiftly served (if you want a pot or a cup/ mug of tea you need to state it when ordering) barely had enough time to decide what we wanted to eat. But that's far better than thinking you an inconvenience. The food arrived freshly cooked, was presented well and tasted great. The service was always cheery and with a smile. The ambience was peaceful and the place smelt clean, No stale greasy smells!! We were treated as customers by the staff and would definitely come back here again.

went here on the 14th march for a birthday lunch with friends it was our friends 70th birthday 30 of us went the service was excellent as was the food friendly service and would recommend it great

My husband and I made our first ever visit to this place to try the breakfast. We arrived at 9.50 and we were the only ones there, another three people arrived about 10 mins later. The waitress was welcoming and said to sit where we wanted, unfortunately the table we chose had a dirty tablecloth with a couple of noticeable tea stains from the previous user although no food stains. We ordered two cooked breakfasts that came with tea and toast included in the set price. After a wait of about 20 minutes the waitress arrived with breakfasts for the other two tables while we were still waiting for a further 5mins even though we arrived first. Has we all were having cooked breakfast I can only assume the other people were regulars who were priority.Breakfast was well cooked, egg just nice and runny, it was all hot. Downside for me was the sausage was very bready and not at all meaty and the toast was just white with a spread already on. Would have liked to be offered a choice of bread and for it to come with butter on the side. Tea was bought out in a cup but I did expect to have a teapot for the type of place it was, wasn't offered any refills.My opinion overall was as I said in the title- could do better.

A bit like visiting your Nan for lunch, roaring open fire, linen table clothes, black and white photos of the village on the walls and traditional features within the furniture and building. The staff were really friendly and attentive. My fussy children were well catered for and all the food we ate was lovely. Price was reasonable and I would recommend it!

I have to say we would never visit this place again ! When we came in there was music playing , and after a short while we realised it was the same tune , played endlessly . After a while we couldn't stand it anymore , so we asked why the tune didn't change , apparently the staff hadn't noticed (!! ) , but said " oh it is on a loop and must be stuck " , they did change it . When my meal arrived , a lamb shank , I thought at first it looked good , however on cutting into it, a curious artificial red colour was revealed . I asked about this and was told they come like this , well I have eaten in restaurants, and cooked myself for many years, and I have never seen anything like it before . The quality of the rest of the meal was very average , except for the sprouts which tasted disgusting , as though they were rotten . The other meals were also indifferent , along with the music problem and the dingy décor , it all made for a very unpleasant and disappointing experience. We didn't ask for any refund as we thought there was no chance of getting one , to be honest, we were beginning to lose the will to live anyway !

The family and friends have used this friendly place on and off for some time and have always found the service and food very good .There is a large restaurant to the rear and the coffee shop faces the road to the front . Particularly recommended is the breakfast B. including tea and toast.

We have eaten here on lots of occasions, we took our staff for a Christmas Lunch several years in a row and could not fault the food, it was a beautiful Christmas Dinner with all the trimmings. Good food and good value. Food if always Fresh & Home Made. We have eaten there with friends and family and even took our local Wine Club there for a Sunday lunch which was excellent. My partner had his 50th birthday a couple of years ago and they did all the catering for us, a wonderful buffet. We thoroughly recommend this restaurant and the staff are always very friendly and obliging, especially as my partner is vegetarian and they always prepare something special for him !

We've been meaning to eat here for some time. It looks so quaint from the outside and the menu looks good. The location is ideal. But what a let down!We were so disappointed with both the interior of the premises and the quality of the food. Really in need of some refurbishment. Even a pot of paint would make a difference. Cheap white bread (no choice) with margarine type spread, cheap coffee, microwaved 'roast' dinners. All in all a distinctly average experience. We certainly won't bother again
