I am very sorry to say that i have been going to this fantastic Cafe for years . But am sorry to say over the last 12 months i have seen a big down turn in the standards Today we just hade coffee and cake { cannoli } this was stale rock hard and not very nice at all . I did complain and received a replacement with a smile this cannoli was just the same . I know times are difficult for all but please can you keep your standards high please Your high prices should reflet on product.

I’ve been coming 3/4 times a week here since 2021. The coffee is the best in Birmingham, the manager Davide is very attentive, and all of the staff make you feel really welcome. The scones are great and so are the croissants. Pistachio cake is heaven. Their ice cream selection is also really good and they have a wide range of drinks. I would say this is the best cafe/ coffee place I have ever been to

It's very sad to see how dramatically down the standards of this place have gone. OK, I confess I am Italian so people may consider my point of view quite biased. I ordered a 'single' macchiato - put it simply, a macchiato should be nothing else than an espresso with a little 'spot' (macchia) of milk. Well...as you can judge from the picture what I was served resembled more of a mushroom soup, filled to the edge and overspilling. I spare you the poor taste...at point of paying I asked for a little water which of course they forgot to bring...When I asked for it the waitress then brought me a little jug of hot water...so I asked again and finally she brought me a glass of lukewarm tap water... You know how much I paid? £2.80.. Really sad, this place was once one of the few places in Birmingham where you could get a decent coffee. F

After a long walk around Birmingham city centre on a beautiful day, my wife and I decided we needed some refreshments, a rest, and a place to relax. Having past numerous coffee shops, cafes non seemed to meet our requirements, all most to the extent of us giving up. When having a look around Selfridge’s we came across the Gran Café. At first, I was a little dubious as it was an Italian Café, the reason for this hesitancy was due to the fact my mother was Italian, who my father had met whilst serving in the army in World War 2. During my life, I have spent a significant amount of time in Italy and of course Italian cafes with family and friends. The experience we had in relation to the quality of the location, service and food was first class. This has now become my little bit of Italy in Birmingham.

I went here during a visit with family to Selfridges. I was stood there for over 5 minutes waiting to be seated. Two staff members saw us and ignored us multiple times, despite there being plenty of tables to sit at. We watched this happen to multiple customers. Customers ended up leaving as they were not seated either. In the end we left too; why run a business if you cannot be bothered to take in customers?

Really sad that Birmingham has lost both Selfridges and those Space Discs. However, this franchise operation (also in Manchester) was a real find. Table service, brilliant Macchiato. Quality crockery, made in England. Twinned with a super fresh baguette filled with Prochuito and Buffalo Mozzarella. And for dessert, a single scoop of Vanilla Gelato. Soooo much superior to Ice Cream, but quite difficult to find. And a very attentive young Waitress. Hayling Seagoon

Popped in today, just for a drink, and again great tea, superb coffee, and amazing service. Its an oasis, away from the rush, (even on a Monday) of the city centre. Wonderful food and drink with exceptional staff. Perfect!

Oh how we've missed Gran Cafe during the last lockdown. So good to be able to return! We've been twice so far, once with three of our grandchildren, once just the two of us. It makes no difference either way, Christian and the team are just so welcoming, helpful, knowledgeable, professional and just so lovely! The food is as good as ever, our grandchildren loved the ice cream, the tea and coffee are up to expectations, the savoury dishes are superb and the cakes stunning! Added to this they are really careful about the Covid precautions, it's good to feel safe. Not much more to say really, we love the place and the food and drinks, but the service is top notch, always!! Thank you to the hardworking team that deliver the service in the only way they know, stylishly and courteously

The coffee is cold, not even lukewarm, literally cold cause they want you up and out as soon as possible. The staff are also very unprofessional and profile customers before deciding whether to be respectful. They collude together and make personal comments about customers in a really conspicuous way. Can I remind you that customers are the reason you have a job and you will do well to respect us. They are clearly not happy with their lives and instead of doing something about it, they vent their frustration on seemingly happy customers. We don’t care to deal with your insecurity and nonsense, we are here to meet up with friends and get a coffee. You are just there. Try not to be a nuisance.

After spending the afternoon shopping we decided to stop off for some late afternoon tea and desserts. My sister in law recommended Grand Cafe and I am so elated that she did. A lovely little gem in Selfridges we chose the Pistachio Cake, Cheesecake, Fruit Punch, traditional ice cream, tea and coffee. The desserts were so traditionally and deliciously made that we felt as though were in dessert heaven! The tea and coffee were served beautifully and the tea in a ceramic tea pot with steeped tea. The customer service was impeccable, attentive and our satisfaction in our dishes asked during the course of our visit. I cannot wait to return!

The atmosphere and decor of the place was very fresh and vibrant, the fresh flowers on each table add a nice touch too. The service was quick and food was brought to our table. The scone tasted homemade (if it wasn't it was a very good imitation) and it came with a portion of jam and cream at no additional cost. Speaking of which, at £2.25, I found the prices to be quite affordable in comparison to similar cafes in bullring/Selfridges. Similarly, the hot chocolate was a decent price at £3.60. The establishment had been very generous with the whipped cream and marshmallows and it was delightfully decadent as a result, and I daren't look up the nutritional value. Overall, I recommend this cafe as a result of today's visit.
