After having an awful meal last time, we’ve tried again twice. Absolutely delicious food, both times. They made a mistake with one dish yesterday, but rectified the problem straight away. It’s great value for food after our go to Chinese decided to charge ridiculous amounts of money for their dishes. I’m so glad this Chinese takeaway has improved and we’ll definitely be back. I think the fact it was so busy shows how tasty the food is now! And possibly the cause of the mistake, which is understandable as they were crazily busy. The phones didn’t stop ringing. The young man on the phone was very polite and his boss should be proud of him. Thanks 😊

We have had "iffy" meals from here before BUT today was the pits, Sweet & sour pork balls arrived not s&s PRAWN balls but the general description of the food was disgusting also with too much salt, so much for giving this place a second chance i think a new cook should be employed as th one they have is useless and not doing the business any favours.

We popped in here, late last night as our usual Chinese takeaway was closed. Never have we eaten such a bland, dry tasteless Chinese in our whole life. I’d go as far as to say it was the worst I’ve ever had. Certainly won’t be going there ever again.

The guy that answered the phone was rush, rush, rush which is not helpful if you have a couple of questions regarding the food to ask, the food arrived within the time he promised, the food was nice i put mine in the microbe for a couple of minutes but that's no problem, and for some reason they don't take card payments, only cash which is not helpful if you don't have enough to give the driver the Chinese by Farnham rail station charges the same delivery (£4 00) and they take cards on a telephone order and for this reason only the Alton one has lost a few orders as i often pay by card due to lack of cash in the house

I've always loved the food at Gourmet Oriental. Their garlic chili tofu is to die for.. until today. I recently ordered a large vegetable spring rolls from them. I wasn't massively hungry I just wanted snack food. When I got back it had meat and prawns in. I was going to call them to fix the order but we had ordered quite late and they had already closed. So I didn't eat them obviously and I thought to myself "I'm sure they'll apologise. People make mistakes." So today I happened to be walking by and I thought I'd explain what happened. The guy shouts "No!" and tells me that I ordered the meat ones. I've been a vegetarian since I was 11, I just wouldn't. Also a large veggie spring roll costs £1 more at £3.60. This is the exact amount on my bank statement. The meaty ones are £2.30 each. I had 4 of them so I would have been charged £4.60. Rather than accept the error and just either refund me or cook what I paid for, he takes a phone call and walks off. I was patient but when he came back he started asking why I didn't call on the day (He remembers the order) I explained it to him. I didn't go there to argue and I thought he might have just apologised and I would have remained a loyal customer. Instead he shouted at me multiple times to "F**k off". They will never have another penny from me. Mans it is!

Food is not at all good quality this shop had a score of just 1 (ONE) in August 2021 inspection had we realized that when we went there w would have walked out and gone elsewhere

Go here regularly and the food is always good. Could be a bit hotter sometimes but other than that the quality is very good. would recommend. Beware that you can only pay with cash.

I haven’t been for a while and we travel quite a few miles because of the quality of the food over the past 7 years. However this weekend it was meant to be a treat as we haven’t been for such a long time. Greasy, flavourless I won’t be going back I am afraid

Just ordered and ate a fantastic meal, delivered in only 25 mins. Great starters including an excellent duck with pancakes. Mains were first rate - beef with chilli and garlic a great stand out dish. We finished with banana fritters and the kids loved them. Great work :-)

I was disappointed the last time I visited for a takeaway. The dish purchased did not live up to the usual standard, and tasted bland. I hope that this was just a blip on their part, as I usually enjoy the food purchased.

We have ordered takeaway Chinese from here on and off for a few years. Sometimes it’s pretty good, sometimes it’s not. The times it’s not good is when the food is really greasy & covered in oil - used to be much less greasy but got more & more greasy recently. Not enjoying it so much now.

I called this place 7 times on Saturday night from 7pm until 8.15pm before I gave up and used my usual Chinese takeaway in Alton. I thought I would give them a go but not to answer the phone is crazy.

Used this takeaway for 10 years. Service definitely worse than it used to be. Just told I’d have a 15 min wait. 20 mins later I’m told it’s just being done. Only when I demand a refund does the front of house disappear and then my food arrives after 45 minutes. No discount, no extras, barely an apology. Been going here last couple of years and never failed to disappoint however now the menu has changed, the portions are smaller and the last order we made took over 1hr 30mins for it to be delivered and then all the dips that usually come with it weren’t there.

Dont trust this place, the chefs try the food from a spoon while cooking then keep dipping it back in. They never wash anything, floors and surfaces are filthy, the skirting boards are mouldy and it has rats.

I normally get the chicken curry from here love the food here it’s has a lovely atmosphere would deffo come again

We haven’t had any food from here for a couple of years but decided to try it again at the weekend for a change and wished we hadn’t! The texture of the chicken was strange it was soft almost like it was pumped with water and had a slimy outer coating, the beef was similar but not as bad….not pleasant at all.

Was very disappointed with the quality and taste, threw most of it away, we had chicken chow mien which was very oily and chicken was not good quality, shredded beef was very sticky and very over cooked, chicken satay was again poor quality very tough to eat. Very disappointed

Worst Chinese I’ve ever had. The meat was tough and the sauce lacked flavour. We were given something we didn’t order and our drinks were missing. Along with that the online menu has dishes advertised that they don’t have and the women on the phone was rude and impatient

I purchased a takeaway from this establishment, and was unhappy with the quality of the goods, compared to previous takeaways purchased here. I will not be returning.

We always go here now as the food is consistently good and there is a very wide selection of dishes including vegetarian ones for the veggies in our family. The dishes always taste fresh. It's not our nearest takeaway but we have found it well worth the drive. Super talented chef too! We saw his vase of roses on the counter and found out they were all made of beautifully cut vegetables. They were so lifelike that we didn't even realise when looking at them. Wonderful to know that someone with such skill is cooking your supper in the kitchen!

Used to be ok but the last couple of orders have been very poor. Today’s order was absolute rubbish - the meat used was of poor and fatty quality & the dishes were of small size and mostly undercooked.

What an utter disappointment finished off with raw pork balls as the coup de grace for what was a bloody awful meal. There are much more professional, friendly Chinese restaurants in Alton and this one should be avoided at all costs. I had to take the remainder of the family's meal back to the shop after a very disinterested and obtuse young man said they would refund what was left of the meal but on reconsideration would only refund the raw pork balls.... This is after I have travelled back down for them to then renege on what was promised. I have very serious and valid concerns about the quality of food served there and would advise that you go elsewhere.

Always such incredible food, and big portions! Salt and pepper chicken, beef in shezwhan (spelling sorry!) and chicken chow mien are the classics. Always so accommodating for recommending new foods and the wait is never long. Delivery time is also fantastic.

Stumbled across these guys when a flyer came through our door saying they now delivered out to my area (previously barren of deliveries). Gave them a shot and very pleased that I did. Great service, always deliver on-time and earlier. Food very tasty. Especially the Singapore dishes! almost a weekly event now :)

I used to go here regularly as I love the veggies, and the tofu, which you can't always get in Chinese food places. I went here yesterday, and it was up to the usual standard. The food covers the usual suspects such as sweet and sour Hong Kong style and black bean sauce. But they also do lots of other dishes too. My favourite is the veggies and tofu in oyster sauce. There are lots of spicey dishes with chilli. Quantities are large. There are lot of veggies. Prawns are good. Quality is good.

I used to use this take away all the time but moved away from the area , I passed by there last week and went in and ordered meal F for 2, the standard of food was exactly the same, we drove for 30 minutes to get the food home it was still at a good eating temperature. the service was fast and efficient I would recommend this place to anyone,

Order was taken by staff who seemed knowledgible about the product.Came quickly and well packagedWalked home about 7 minutes and the take away was still hot and tasty.

Ordered late on Saturday, so expectedly 10 mins was added to the delivery time by the company. Then arrived 20 mins after that expected time. Driver was very polite and I apologise that I made her jump answering the door so quick. Other than the dryness of the ribs in the starter platter we had a lovely delicious meal. Plenty to go round we could have shared it with the kids or another adult. :-)

We have a Katsu curry at least once a week. absolutely amazing!!! The flavour reminds me of being abroad and the portion sizes are just right.

I was disappointed with the he quality of food from this restaurant, it was quite greasy and not enjoyable.The meal wasn't expensive, but I think it is worth popping to Farnham instead as the Chinese takeaways there are much better.

Never had a bad meal - favourite Alton takeaway, set meals are good value, as are the sharing platters.

From the reviews, I wasn't too sure it was a good idea. But when I went to collect, the place was really clean and fresh looking - a change from some! I think it was one of the best meals from a Chinese I've ever had. Better than at least one other in Alton. Highly recommend the shezuan(?) sauce...amazing!

I am a genuine convert to Chinese food after eating here. Very tasty food, a great selection for fussy eaters (like me!) and really good service every time. Can't fault them and would use anyone else.

My husband and kids our very fussy eaters, it's hard for me to find anywhere they like, but I have to say the menu was HUGE! We struggled to find what we like but at the same time it has something for everyone, the gentlemen at the till was very helpful explained all the weird Chinese dishes that are on the menu I've tried his recommendation as I like spicy food "Hunan double chicken" I absolutely LOVED IT! My husband had a Thai green curry I Know Thai food in a Chinese right? But he said it tasted much nicer than the Thai restaurant in Alton, my kids also nearly finished their food(that happens rarely). I don't normally leave good comment on things but I wish I found this place sooner, save me doing all the cooking.

This must be the worst Chinese food I have ever tasted......full of vinegar and simply awful. If I had been served this in a restaurant I would have refused to pay. Steer clear of this place as the staff are extremely rude.

Have used this place several times in recent years and it was good, but it’s gradually gone downhill. Food has gone from good to OK, service has gone from fair to really poor. Our most recent order, as always phoned in, was greeted with “it will be ready in 30 min.” “That’s great” I said, and duly turned up 30 minutes later. There were several others there obviously waiting for their orders and I went to the counter and paid, expecting the food to then be brought through as usual. The lass behind the counter went into the kitchen, then came back but without the food. I waited… and to cut it short, another 55 minutes later after having to ask where the heck our order had got to, with several others in the same situation, I went home with a very mediocre meal.Probably never again. I don’t understand what happens to these places. What are they thinking?

Food tastes very good, delivery time was very prompt, even a little bit earlier than expected. The only downside is the additional cost for delivery.

Ordered diet coke, got normal. Stated only had 50 pound note... Delivery person struggled for change....

We have been visiting this take away for the last two years.....it's out of our way and even more so now we have moved to Cornwall but the range of dishes, including all the usual favourites prepared with tofu instead of meat/fish is fantastic and the food tastes delicious......any excuse to visit and we will be there!

Didnt follow anything in the note. Satay sauce was a strange recipe, nothing like ive had at any other restaurant.

Food was great. But had to wait 1.5 hours for the delivery. Considering I live 10 mins from the restaurant and it was a Wednesday night I am not impressed. I rang to complain and no offer of goodwill was offered. I wont use them again.

Whether a mix up with just eat or the resteraunt itself overall disappointed. Took 1.5 hours to get to me wrong items were delivered. Staff told me was going to be 5 mins then was an extra 30 mins on top.

Everything was great, everything we ordered ticked the boxes and the complimentary crackers and cookies were an added bonus.

Shared starter was awful. The chicken tasted like canned stuff and the wanton had a fatty after taste. The fish cakes...tiny and tasted like rubber luncheon meat.. out of the shared starter we ate maybe 4 bits and left the rest. The main courses were good and plenty of it. Over all not sure I'd get from there again.

for a meal costing nearly £40 didn't enjoy at all, very greasy and could even eat tthe left overs next day as not to sure if the food had been reheated before leaving the shop...very Dissapointed. will be sticking to the Tasty House In Farnham for all future meals

The food was disgusting, I had to spit out the prawn toast cause it was still frozen, the quarter of duck I got was so over cooked that I probably got a pancake out of the meat. The package starter was so dry and disgusting I wouldn't feed it to my dog. Honestly don't order from this restaurant when you have a problem they won't give your money back....and when they did offer it too me I had to take the awful food back to them before they would give me a refund it's disgusting this restaurant should not be trusted!!!!!

Crispy noodles so crispy we couldn't eat them, the rest of the food was cooked well enough but mostly tasteless. Very fast delivery. Won't be ordering from them again.

Fast delivery, but the meal itself was very poor. Chicken was pink - though it wasn't raw, and appeared cooked, so not convinced it was chicken and the beef was almost like jelly. Not impressed.

over all very good, best chinese in alton. very quick delivery and food not too greasy or salty. lovely chicken noodle soup. one niggle - £2 delivery fee and £20 minimum order, bit steep! otherwise good value.
