Gorkha Palace in East Staffordshire

Four of us had an absolutely superb meal here last Friday. All our mains were so delicious, as were the side dishes. We will definitely return!

Wow! I'd just like to take this moment to improve every viewers quality of life. GO TO GORKHA PALACE. My only complaint is that it has ruined every other Indian restaurant for me because none match the food that this place produces. I'll end the review there as it is up to you to change your life. It begins here. It begins now.

Cold masala,cold nam bread,stale poppadoms..truly awful..delivery to front door..waited 45 minutes ok average, but live less than mile away..how could they get it so wrong?...never again

We had the takeaway, the mixed combo spot on loads of proper cooked meat and prawn , all the other food was bloody handsome as well

I don't really know where to start this review being 30 minutes after dining here and not being able to move from my seat in a pub down the road. My wife and I attend Indian's very regularly and have all over the country. Derby to Birmingham is what we call curry house heaven. Its very rare to find one that isn't good and most are well above average. Gorhka Palace was outstandingly exceptional even compared to the local competition which is already some of the best in the country. All the food was wonderfully flavoured, complex and a fair price. Very unique dishes on the menu too. The only thing I would say is be wary of what you order if you don't have a huge appetite. Portion sizes are more than generous. We will be returning and spreading the word to friends and family. Thank you for a lovely meal.

Food ok. However we asked for the food we had leftover to take away but when opened the cartons at home, there was practically nothing in there!; What is that all about!! 😡 obviously another customer had them! 😡

From the moment you walk into this hidden gem you are welcomed by such a lovely family team. A lovely homely feel inside this place. We have been to many Indian restaurants and being Indian myself it's always hard to find somewhere that really makes it the perfect meal. This place has definitely made the best food I've ever had from an eatery. Usually at curry houses the top of the dish is a pool of oil, not here. Its all clean homemade food. A fantastic range of starters, currys and accompaniments. Amazing drinks menu and desserts. We have been coming to Gorkha Palce Since 2022 and have been going nearly 3 times a month. I definitely recommend this place to anyone nearby. Thank you to the Family and Staff

The food and service at the Gorkha Palace was 5 star. We had a party of over 20 and the food was delicious my favourite were the momos they were amazing along with all the other starters and mains we had. Excellent customer service from all the staff

First time visit but definitely not the last. Wanted somewhere different and saw this place on the radar.. Lovely menu of Indian and Nepalese food. Staff friendly excellent service and a lovely atmosphere. Even the wine very nice and reasonable price. The food was excellent and plenty of it. Amazed not more people know of it but I will definitely be putting the word out

We have now visited twice and also had a takeaway, the food has always been exceptional, service super friendly. Takeaway was on time and every bit as tasty as being in the restaurant. Over the years we have visited many Indian restaurants around the country, and have to say the food here is right at the top of the tree.

Had a takeway from Gorkha on a Friday night, food was delicious ,fresh ,hot and flavoursome! Very nice indeed ,lamb and spinach curry was delicious ! Highly recommended 👌 👍

Never visited before. This place is amazing. Food was cooked lovely. I had the chicken tikka main course., so much chicken and on a bed of sizzling onions. Could not fault the service.

We had a great meal on a Friday night at the Gorkha Palace. The menu variety is superb, the food quality and quantity is excellent as is the value for money. The table was booked on line using their web site, the booking procedure was simple and straightforward, with booking confirmation email. All of the staff were very friendly and efficient, all making for a wonderful evening meal experience. Many thanks to all at the Gorkha Palace Tutbury.

O my goodness first time i tried this indian food with my family in gorkha palace. It was so delicious. Staff was so kind and friendly. I give them 10 points out of 10 i mean 5 stars👌

The food was very tasty, with fresh herbs and spices used. The starters were generously sized. I had the Gorkha chilli chicken starter and I was very happy with my choice. Others had momo, chilli fish and pakoras. Main courses were equally tasty and portions plentiful. If ever in the area, I would definitely return.

Excellent service and excellent food, we will definitely be returning. Good vegetarian options! If I was being picky, the only downside I would say would be the toilets - they could do with a much needed spruce up.

We went to Gorkha Palace for dinner with the family and the staff and the way of speaking were very good and helful and the food was very tasty and very tasty. We enjoyed the food very much. Thanks and see you soon again

Just had a delivery, the curry tastes fantastic. The delivery time was very good too, said it would take 45 mins and it did. Loved it!

Terrible take away experience. The meal was delivered over one hour later than it should have been. The food was very average. Rang twice to chase the order up as didn’t get my promised call back. Will never be using again and would not recommend.

Collected a take away my daughter had ordered, arrived asked if I could purchase 2 bottles of beer to take home, answer was no!!! Got home opened the foodIt looked like something a cat had thrown up we discarded the veg curry The rest did not look good however we were hungry, for food that cost over £50 it was very poor overcooked tasteless chicken, I could go on but I won’t and I won’t go back either

Good food and excellent service. I been here with my wife on Tuesday night for meals. The food was very good and service was excellent. We felt very safe eating here, social distance was maintained well . We definitely visit again.

My wife and I go out with friends every few months for a meal at different places around the area. We have been doing this for a number of years. We call ourselves The Curry Club as surprisingly we always visit curry houses, so we now think we know when we have had either great, good or bad food and service.Anyway tonight we went to the Gorkha Palace in Tutbury. There was only 10 of us this time. When we arrived we were shown to our table by a really friendly member of staff. We quickly ordered our drinks - this is a licensed establishment. The drinks soon arrived with an ample amount of popadoms - great start.We ordered some starters which arrived shortly after. The starters were really tasty and very well presented. We then ordered our main courses - there is a good selection on the menu, but not too many that would make it difficult to choose. We asked what meals would be recommended and the member of staff took his time explaining the key elements of the speciality dishes.When the main meals arrived everybody was seriously impressed. Every meal was freshly cooked and hot - they all looked amazing and importantly they tasted great. Everyone was impressed with their meal, which is a first for the Curry Club. The standard of service was excellent at all times and the attention to detail of how the food was presented was very good. The quantity and quality of food is certainly impressive in comparison with other places that we have visited.In summary this is only a small restaurant which is well maintained. Where the Gorkha Palace really stands out, in comparison with other similar restaurants, is with the standard of service and quality of food, which is really very good. At the end of our meal we talked about where we would go next for our Curry Club meak and everyone agreed that we should come back to the Gorkha Palace - this will be the first time we will have ever gone back to the same place - in my opinion well deserved. Certainly recommend.

Been here a few times and had takeaways, I’ve never had a bad meal. The cocktails are nice too and the staff are friendly and attentive.

I can help feel people's expectations of Indian food must be quite low because we went to Gorka Palace due to its positive reviews.Sadly, it was very disappointing and expensive for the quality of food on offer.Loads of sauce, very little meat, bland indistinguishable flavours. Such a shame as my girlfriend and I were looking forward to it. I was only visiting the area so unlikely to return, but if I did I would try another restaurant. The staff were nice though

Having not long moved into the area, we were on the hunt for a decent takeaway that would match our previous very good local one.Searched on Tripadvisor and found that the Ghorka Palace had an excellent rating, so ordered online from their website.I had the lamb tikka jalfrezi, whilst my partner had the balti chicken.Both of us had the mushroom rice.Well, the reviews were right because both meals were excellent, and the mushroom rice was particularly good.We were so impressed by the takeaway that we’ll definitely book a meal in the restaurant soon.

First time here, no parking on site but plenty of street parking and a pay and display across the road, be aware that this is a 24 hour monitored car park. As you enter you are straight into the restaurant, warm welcome and shown to our reserved table. A table of 7 altogether, drinks order taken and a short time after, everyone had gone for the set menu, the starter order was taken. I went for a mixed kebab starter but there was a good mix of starters ordered and all received a great review. Prior to our starters being served and our mains being ordered, pappadams with pickle trays were served, tasty but if you are a fan, you only get one each. One thing to check on is that I ordered the Himalayan Lamb off the specials menu which is not part of the set menu. Again all the mains got great reviews and the Lamb was lovely, big meal in itself to be fair which is why it isn’t on the set menu. So all in all a lovely evening, pleasant surroundings and good portions all round, worth a visit.

Had booked our table for 8pm. Very busy when we arrived, out table was ready. Excellent choice of more unusual dishes, Nepalese. Service and quality of food first class. Recommended.

Visited based on trip advisor reviews when looking for somewhere different to eat. Wasn't disappointed.Great choice of pickles with the popadoms, starters we're well presented and main courses were huge! Only a small point but there was limited vegetarian options and they weren't highlighted on the menu, so you had to read the whole thing to find them!

It was 10pm on Saturday night and thought it was a great excuse to try the Gorka Palace for the first time. We had been to the previous restaurant a number of times several years ago.They found a table for us and ordered drinks and a couple of poppadoms as we looked through the menu. There is a good selection of Nepalese food as well as dishes you normally find on an Indian menu. We ordered the chicken tikka passanda and balti dishes with a garlic and coriander naan and mushroom rice between us.The naans were just as we like them - thin and crispy and together with the excellent main dishes it proved to be an excellent meal. All the staff were friendly and efficient in their jobs.Overall an excellent meal for £37 inc a couple of drinks.

Been a couple of times recently having moved to the area and am very impressed with the quality of the food offered, portions and cost. The flavours are not over powering and allow you to enjoy the meal. The amount of food is very generous with plenty of meat and not filled with lots of cheaper ingredients i.e. onions, etc.

It’s only a small restaurant with a Nepalese theme but the service and food were excellent. Very good value for money. I dined with 3 colleagues and we were all completely stuffed at the end of the meal. We did tell the proprietor he could reduce his portion sizes.

First visit and very impressed with the service and the food was excellent. The spices used and the flavours created were definitely different to Indian curries. Great value as well, we will be back.

We ate here with friends on a Saturday night and the service and food was of the highest standard. We shall return again very soon.

After a late afternoon meeting we decided to order a takeaway from here for the first time. So glad we did as the food was divine, so tasty and very big portions.

We visited on Friday 22/3/19 with family who had come up from Devon. We were a little late for the time booked but this was no problem. The waiter was polite, friendly and very helpful with advice about the food on offer. He enjoyed a little banter which is always a bonus. All the meals we had (4) were of good portions, extremely tasty and of high quality. Our Devon family were most impressed. Good value too!

Having had takeaway many times, I only recently ate in the restaurant as a large group booking with work colleagues. The food is exceptional, and really stands out as unique. The staff were very accommodating to our large party and we had a great time. Thoroughly recommended.

First visit to Gorkha Palace on the recommendation of a friend and really impressed. First impressions matter and when we arrived we were greeted warmly and taken to our table. Drinks arrived and orders taken in a,timely ,friendly manner. The main reason for going was obviously the food which was excellent, tasty and plentiful, albeit that my Himalayan Lamb Tikka was served in iceberg lettuce leaves?

Not eaten in but very good take away and much better than others locally. We’ve been lots and it had anything but a nice curry. Good value for the quality

Gorkha palace was recommended to me by a friend. I booked it for my dad's birthday and I wasn't dissapointed. Fantastic food, friendly staff and great staff. Will definitely be returning.

I fancied getting out of Derby so after a little bit of a search found this place in Tutbury that had great reviews! After booking online we went for our first visit tonight!

We have been here many times now and tried so many dishes, the food is honestly the best we have tried (and we eat alot of I dian/Nepalese). The restaurant itself is cosy, it's clean and tidy but not the most modern place - do not let that put you off. The service is very good, everyone is treated like they are their best customer. The spicy chips are a must try. Portions are very generous. Our favourite dishes are the chicken vindaloo, tandoori king prawns, gorkhali chilli chicken and the Himalayan chicken. The naan breads are really good and they have a broad pickle selection for the popadums.

Booked a table for myself and my two children - arrived to find a lovely clean and well maintained restaurant, escorted to our table and left to ponder the menu.

I don't normally write reviews on take away food but this was too good not to. Having been to the restaurant once before (which was also lovely) we decided to try a take out. From the polite, professional phone service to the friendly delivery driver the service was great. More importantly the food was delicious! We had king prawn and chicken starters with chicken and lamb mains- all of which were super tasty. The spice blends in all the meals gave a really authentic flavour and there was no hint of a base sauce across the dishes. Our new favourite take out.

Just had another absolutely fabulous meal from this restaurant. The best around here without doubt. The spinach bhaji which isn’t listed but which they kindly did is just to die for. The best ever. Keep on doing what you are doing please.

The staff were attentive and the service excellent. The menu was comprehensive and we were reassured when told that the heat of each dish could be adjusted to your personal preference. We all enjoyed our food immensely and I have to say that my boiled rice (which I was advised to have with my dish in order to bring out the best of the spices) was the best boiled rice I have ever had!

First time dining at the Gorka palace and definitely won't be the last! Went this week with another couple and we all agreed the food was excellent. Hadn't heard anything about it, chose as it was halfway in-between where we all lived! But will be telling all now. The staff were very attentive without being intrusive, on hand to refill our drinks without having to be called over. Although we didn't have starters we didn't have to wait long for our meals, which were yummy when they arrived. We were all stuffed afterwards and couldn't manage a dessert but we were offered one. Reasonable price on draft lager when some other licenced restaurants charge over the odds.

Gorkha do the best curry around, the food is always fantastic and they will spice it up on request! They offer different variety of curry that you can get elsewhere including great specials and the portions are plentiful! Not to mention the welcoming and attentive staff who make going there a great experience!

First visit for a long time and how much it has improved! Welcomed and served with smiles and efficiency. Restaurant was nearly full which is another good sign. Food looks and tastes superb. Lots of choice and advice about dishes, slightly more expensive but worth it! Definitely will return next time we are in Tutbury!

If I hadn't looked on Trip Advisor I would have probably walked passed and gone somewhere else but I'm glad I didn't. I was made very welcome and the food was plentiful and tasted fantastic. Great value for money. I will go back again.

Have been here a few times now. Every occasion has been a great experience. Always a warm welcome. The food is excellent with a variety of dishes to suit every palate. They will even adjust the dish to suit your requirement whether it be spicier or milder.

Visited after hearing great things from others. Was not disappointed. Staff were lovely, friendly and attentive. Food was amazing, deffinatly fresh, full of flavour and lots of it for the price. Will deffinatly be visiting again and making use of the takeaway/delivery option.

Very busy Christmas Eve food was where very exceptional was my first visit this Nepalese Restaurant that area I was very impressed in the Door service was great .will definitely recommend to our friends and family ...

Up until this point, our rating would have been a 5. Previous experiences, food great, portion size great, staff great, but sadly all lost last night. We booked a table in advance, arrived on time and the restaurant was very busy so was asked to take a seat and wait for our table. No drinks offered at this point, Shortly afterwards another party of four arrived, obviously regulars by the way they were greeted and served drinks straightaway. Overhearing the conversations between the staff and this party, it was apparent by the actions of the staff that there was no advanced booking other than a telephone call 20 minutes previously, and they had been assured that there would be a table available. We then asked if we could have a drink whilst we waited and two of the four drinks arrived. A table then became vacant and the party of four were promptly seated. We had booked in advance, arrived on time and got ignored. We made the decision to leave after expressing our disgust at the treatment we received and took our business elsewhere. This is when the staff started to give conflicting opinions of when the party of four had made their booking, ranging from they booked a week ago, booked on Wednesday and we overheard them say they had only rung 20 minutes prior to arrival. The management followed us outside and offered 15% discount if we returned, this got increased to 100% discount but our minds were made up that we would never return to the restaurant again. Such a shame as it had all been good up to this incident. In summary making a reservation does not guarantee anything.

Food was delicious and plenty of it. Service was excellent. Came here on a recommendation and wasn't disappointed, all the staffs made us very comfortable throughout the evening. We will be back soon again to have another meal. Thank you.

Heard good reviews so decided to give it a try with friends on Friday. Food was distinctly average in my opinion my prawn puri starter was quite bland. The restaurant was quite busy , might try it again in the future to see if it improves.

This is the third time I have been to the Gorkha Palace since it opened, and we have had a number of takeaways. Each time we visited we had a great meal and really lovely service. The food was great - it has never been disappointing. The staff are always so welcoming and tentative. The takeaway food is always as good. I would, without doubt, recommend the Gorkha Palace to friends and family.

Had about 4 take always from here now and had something different every time. Each time the food has been first class. Staff are all very friendly and nothing seems too much trouble. Also on my last visit had a drink at the bar while I waited and tried a bottle of the Gurkha beer which was superb. Can’t wait to get an opportunity to sit in and have a meal and a few more bottles of the beer.

My wife and I have visited the Gorkha Palace twice in the past month, each time with different friends. We much enjoyed both visits. The service, atmosphere and meals were all excellent. Last night Naz was most attentive. We shall visit again in due course and will recommend the Gorkha Palace to our friends.

I went to the restaurant on Tuesday 27th February! The food is always good however last night was stunning. great food, great wine, superb service, lovely restaurant, great staff! I must give a special mention to Harry and his team!

We visited as a party of four, at 6.30 on a Friday evening. Initially the Restaurant was quiet, but soon filled up.

Excellent food, Excellent service, eat in or takeaway, you can not beat the Gorkha Palace, we are very lucky people in Tutbury!!!

My second visit to the Gorkha I can only praise the service which was exceptional, and the food offers lots of choice and for those with a big appetite they will be well satisfied.

We went to Gorka Palace on New Years Eve. Even though the staff were very busy, they remained attentive. The restaurant was clean, with crisp white tablecloths and sparkling cutlery and glasses. The food was delicious especially the mono “dumpling” starter. Really unusual but scrummy. We will most certainly be back.

First visit in this restsurant ' food is very good and service is exclent , all staffs are very helpfull ,i would like to thank for all restuarant teams once again , will be back again soon.

My husband has eaten here twice now in the last month- the first time he visited without me he told me it was the best curry he had tasted in a long time and he desperately wanted to revisit with me and in the mean time refused to east any curry elsewhere as he wanted to wait as he had enjoyed this one so much. I wasn’t disappointed. The Himalayan chicken was beautiful! Served in a lettuce leaf bowl. The keema Naan was the best one I have had. The Ghurka Beer is also great.

I’ve been to this restaurant a few times and have had a few takeaways since it’s opened and it’s been very nice since the first day, the food is lovely and the staff are very welcoming.

We had a leaflet come through our door and decided to go along. So very pleased we did, the food is delicious, atmosphere warm and friendly, delightful young lady served us and the rest of the staff were all friendly and courteous. The old decor has gone and it's lighter too, ambient music in the background so we could still hear one another.

We visited on friday night with family. food was very good and service was excellent . We had set meals it was really delicious . We definitely come again

I went with my wife few days ago, and we felt very welcomed as soon as we walked in. The food is just amazing and of the best quality around here! definitely will visit again, highly recommend everyone to go and give it a shot.

The venue itself has been done up nicely since it was the Eastern Palace (bar the gents loo which still appear the same but with a lick of paint)

Really nice food but extremely expensive.£55 for two curries, rice and Naan. A beer and a bottle of wine (cheapest on menu).

We visited this restaurant for a meal. The food was fabulous well spiced and very well presented. Worth a try.

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, loved the Nepalese music. Hadn't tried Nepalese food before but wow, the Gorkhali lamb was delicious. My husband loved the Himalayan barbecue lamb he had too. In both cases the meat was obviously of great quality and very tender. Add to all this the fact that the staff were really lovely people and the service excellent we would love to come back again when we're in the area.

Found the Palace almost by accident , but what a find , have eaten Gurkha before , but this was right up there as one of the best , the one and only small glitch was that the wife said she thought there could have been a few more fish dishes on the menu.

Food so flavoursome, lovely staff, affordable prices and good size portions! Well worth a visit! You deserve to do well!
