Goose at Gamston in Rushcliffe

Average meal, compared to other places we’ve visited, the table service was a nice touch, staff are friendly and decor is good, signs of wear and tear. But a nice place, we will definitely come again when passing.

During my visits to The Goose at Gamston over the past few months, I have been consistently disappointed by the service and overall experience. On three separate occasions, despite being told the kids’ club was fully booked when attempting to reserve by phone, the venue was notably devoid of customers. This raised concerns about the transparency and efficiency of their booking system. Moreover, the bar staff’s demeanor left much to be desired; each interaction felt as though I were imposing on them with my requests. A particular instance that stood out was a request for potatoes without garlic. I was informed that it was impossible to accommodate this, as the potatoes were pre-seasoned. Yet, when the food arrived after a considerable wait, the potatoes on two meals were entirely unseasoned. This inconsistency was especially disheartening given that it was a Sunday roast, a meal that typically promises comfort and satisfaction. The lack of warmth and hospitality from the staff is puzzling, making it difficult to understand how The Goose sustains its business. It is regrettable that what could be a charming local establishment is marred by such experiences.

Been to The Goose a few times in the evenings with friends and always good food and friendly staff. Brought my family for lunch today and wasn’t disappointed. The Sunday lunch was lovely and the children enjoyed their meals. Will definitely be back with the family.

Hoping to grab a bight to eat at this pub on the way home from a holiday. It was already a late lunch. We asked the waitress for a table and she rudely told us we are not serving food. There was no mention of no food been served outside the restaurant or on the pub website. I don't believe this is acceptable.

Came for a Sunday roast and it was ok. Nothing to make us come back. Asked for non garlic potatoes and it was such an effort. The staff in general had miserable faces on them and no greeting. Returned again to use wacky warehouse and it was fully booked on a saturday afternoon, 3 adults had been spotted inside. I lived in the area 8 years never had to book before. Such effort again for staff to be polite. Awful place

Met up with friends on Thursday evening for a few drinks and was pleasantly surprised with service and atmosphere, friendly welcome from ebony and the rest of the team. Would definitely recommend.

March 2024 We visited here for a last minute lunch on Friday 8th March. What a pleasant experience we had! A young lady called Ebony served us and she was nothing but professional and pleasant. Nothing was too much trouble and she had a lovely smile on her face each time we were served by her. Would definitely return here and do hope to see ebony again as it was a refreshing change to be greeted so warmly and professional. Thank you

Just been to the goose for some food and drinks with some friends and the service from Ebony, Chloe and Mae was brilliant.

The staff were amazing, very attentive, kept our drinks full. The food was also excellent, also they have great parking space. A special thanks to Mae, Ebony and Chloe, they made our night special and I’ll definitely be coming back!

We've been there twice in 3 weeks. First time was quite busy, food was good, attentive staff but friendly and personable. Few days ago was heaving, staff were pushed but still very friendly and they had to work alot !! We were fine. Table next to us just seemed to be after free food and complaining to get something and told young waitress they'd go on here if they don't get free desserts. What is the world coming to.... If you've not been to the Goose try it yourself rather than listen to freeloaders....

This place is a great date spot. Lovely decor and ambience. The servers are attentive but also leave you alone when you want. The food was spot on as well, I forgot to order a side but it was no problem for the staff. The managed to get the extra side out very quickly! Definitely would go back!

I had the pleasure of visiting as part of a works business lunch with some customers. Was greeted from the start and made to feel welcome. Great service, selection of drinks and most importantly food that was enjoyed by the 6 of us. Good selection of a menu and all hot and cooked as we requested. Awful service...waited 35 minutes for the food, such slow service (but I have to say the waitress were pleasant)... we ordered a dessert which said £3.50... we confirmed with the waitress that this was the correct price and she said yes. This was the worst dining experience I have ever had food came out cold staff argumentative absolutely awful I highly recommend to avoid we ended up going home very disappointed and very hungry wasn't expecting to go home and order pizzas when we were looking forward to Sunday lunch without the stress of cooking it ourselves the food was sent back twice and they still had the nerve to try and charge me in the end we paid for our drinks which were still half full left on the table will never return to this pub

As a local who remembers good food at the goose, not recently, we decided to give it a chance after a year or more away. Sadly no better. Ordered a chicken sharer and a side of chips for a light snack. Deep fried chicken was ok, though only one goujon, kebabs and tikka strips were both Luke warm when it arrived. Pointed out it was cold and was taken back to the kitchen. After a quick zap in the microwave it was brought back with onion rings that had originally been missed off. Unfortunately it isn’t possible to “char grill” in a microwave so wife decided kebabs were inedible. Charging 60 for xmas dinner and if they can’t do a chicken sharer at a quiet time god help anyone who books.

A pretty poor experience. New barman did his best and was fine, otherwise the other staff were as welcoming as the iron curtain. In fact quite rude and unprofessional in our opinion. The food was ok but cutlery, plates and glasses were just not clean.
