Excellent staff, welcoming atmosphere. Best pub, best barmaids in London!! Interesting, intellectual clientele - especially Scottish chap, who frequently visits

I know it’s London, but…. I paid for a double gin and tonic and was surprised to see I’d been charged for two singles. They had an offer on the bar for 2 cocktails for £12 so when I asked about this they just said that was how it was. Seemed overpriced. Normally when you order a double, the second spirit is cheaper. If I’d have been told I would have ordered something else, bought more drinks overall.

Good value pub. The welcome was warm and the range of drinks and offers good. Although the ale selection was not very exciting. The pub does look more traditional from the outside than the interior is. But it's clean and comfortable.

Local of the area for over 12 months now. Stumbled upon the Good Samaritan, really suprised with the find. Firstly, first class staff - a bit of banter, great pints and overall a great atmosphere. Exactly what a pub should have - a real sense of "family run" business. First class. Ignore the poor reviews, genuinely great place! Francis

Set in this historic part of the East End and slap bang next to the Royal London Hospital this is a classic Victorian pub - except that it isn’t . The Good Samaritan has obviously recently undergone a cheap makeover which seems to involve painting everything grey and replacing anything brass with steel. The one redeeming feature is the new pub sign featuring a white coated doctor. I was there on aSunday evening . Fellow drinkers were a group of old lager lads having a good time and one lone soul with one of the much advertised cocktails - Perhaps things are better on the Friday “Prosecco Night”. Don’t go there if you like cask ales .The London Pride was off and I couldn’t finish my pint of poorly kept Doombar. No idea what the food is like but Cheese and Onion crisps were off the menu when I was there. Lots of piped music and big Sky screens if that’s your thing.

Two nights running in December I went to this pub with a small group. On the first evening we were instructed we had to order food with our drinks (which we know). We ordered a pizza as this was the cheapest thing on the menu. After 45 minutes of waiting we were told there was no pizza and we had to order a more expensive product. The same thing happened the following evening. This time we asked if the pub could provide a something of similar value to the pizza as we did not want to spend more money on food again. The manager came out put her fingers into our glasses and took the drinks away. She said we were barred that what we were asking was completely unreasonable. She also suggested that the “police were watching” her on CCTV... She refused to refund or drinks money and only offered £2 for the pizza that she was unable to provide for us. Altogether we ended up £20 out of pocket. No one was attempting to get a free meal! They should not offer the pizza if it is not available – or take the money for it! All very aggressive and unnecessarily rude in these difficult times. A real shame as it’s a pub that many of the staff in my organisation use and we are in agreement that none of us will again!

I have visited the Good Samaritan a couple of times recently and on each occasion I have had a friendly greeting and their attention to Covid regulations has been comforting. Highly recommended.

Due to a relative unfortunately being in the Royal London , I popped into the Good Samaritan a few times. A very friendly pub , a good mix of locals , Hospital staff and students. It is a reminder of what a good pub should be. Good to watch a game in with two bIg screens Serves a great pint of Guinness .

I work in the area and it’s a lovely occasional lunch time treat. Staff always friendly and food delicious. Great variety of food on menu at very reasonable prices for London especially as on a Monday and Tuesday it’s 2 meals for £10. It’s an absolute must if you’re in Whitechapel.

Whoever the manager is in this establishment needs to conduct himself correctly!! He’s not welcoming and came across very rude and aggressive and like I was not welcome there . I’ve visited this pub and was outraged at his manner towards the customers and the poor staff. HE NEEDS TO LEARN SOME CUSTOMER SERVICE!!

I have been here a couple of times, during the afternoon for lunch is lovely, it’s not too busy, the wait for food isn’t that long and it is reasonably priced (especially on a Monday & Tuesday when it’s 2 for £10 on main meals). I have also been in on an evening and it does get very busy - it has been 2-3 deep at the bar! Most of the staff are lovely, the landlady however, always looks like she never wants to be there which is really off putting, she doesn’t come across friendly at all! I wouldn’t say this is a must place to visit as it is a little out the way but if your in the area, it would be worth it to pop in if passing.

The pub is situated in the back streets of Whitechapel by The Royal London Hospital. Consequently, it is very popular wit hospital staff, medical students and relatives of in patients. There are usually four regular cask ales available and the St.Austell Tribute and Greene King Yardbird always being in good order. Food in the form of a simple pub menu prepared on the premises is served during the day during Monday to Friday and reasonably priced. Hot drinks are always available too and are cheaper than many of the nearby coffee shops. Even when the pub is busy, service is usually prompt. The pub continues managed by a friendly couple who have done so for sixteen years. The pub is carpeted inside and sporting events is usually shown on two screens. there is also a good juke box with a wide and diverse selection of music. Outside seating is available at the front of the pub. The pub is served by two bus routes, the nearest ones being the D3 and 106 and Whitechapel Underground Station is also close by. The Good Sam's has been my sanctuary recently and long may it continue!

Have been going there for a long long time. Great place to watch all sports staff are very accommodating.. And friendly. They serve home made food during the weekdays in the afternoon only. Nice place to have a drink and meet the locals. Not many pubs left like this. Well established. Frequented by doctors and students, staff from the Royal London Hospital.

Sargeant's Mess is a British restaurant just in front of the Tower of London and adjacent to Tower Bridge. Created by celebrity chef Mark Sargeant, the restaurant serves unmemorable food in a fairly bland atmosphere buttressed by one of the most spectacular locations in London. The food concept behind Mess is to offer traditional British fare at a high quality. Frankly, it is just average. The food is the weakpoint of the restaurant. The concept just seems to have fallen away with for instance the only vegetarian dish in the main course even using the American name Mac N Cheese. It is ok but it is just macaroni cheese so there's a clear ceiling to how good it can be. A large part of the menu is burgers. Not exactly traditional British fare. The vegetarian burger was not bad because it had an avocado in it. Otherwise not the kind of a quality a specialist upmarket provider might generate. Dessert options are fairly limited though the Eton Mess is ok. Service was not that great unfortunately. The faux accent was jarring in its articulation. Chips as an accompaniment to a burger were served without question as to whether a condiment could be offered then an over the top response was generated to a question asking whether such a thing could be provided. Price is high considering the fare. The location does demand a price like that but the food does not. Sargeant just has failed to generate interesting eating. One real shame for a December lunch was that it turned out the Christmas menu was not on offer. It was a real disappointment and made the whole place feel like a let-down. The plus is absolutely the magnificent location. Nestling in the shadow of the Tower and next to Tower Bridge the views are incredible. Looking out at the Thames is beautiful here although the number of window seats is quite small. However, going outside while waiting for food for instance offers a terrific perspective on some of London's finest buildings. Admittedly it is perfectly possible just to walk along the Thames and get the same view. Sargeant's Mess is ultimately a disappointment. The food is flavourless and too simple. Nothing interesting about it at all. No creativity or flair. The price reflects the location and so is too much for the quality of the eating. Service is not great and it was such a shame to find the menus advertised on the website did not exist in reality. The plus is the magnificent location, one of the very best anywhere in London.

Im assuming this is the stour cafe 258 Kingsland Road, and if not then thats what I'm talking about! Amazing coffee and the best bacon sarnie Ive ever eaten. Had in back in early December. Sour dough bread, butter, amazing meat and brown sauce - it was just brilliant. The bread was ace too. Great chef!
