Visited this with family after seeing some online reviews. Parking is nightmare over here and you need to park on pavement. Ordered veg starters which were not worth the price and tasted bad. Next up Amristsari Kulcha, lassi and chole Bhatura. Didn’t like chole bhatura but lassi and kulcha was top notch. People who visit this place don’t bother ordering starters , just have kulcha, it’s their best selling dish and was the best I have had as well. They take only cash as payment but I did see a lady paying by card so unsure what the policy is.

If you are looking for an authentic punjabi food comparing to what we generally get everywhere in the UK, this is the place. We have been here couple of times and each time it has exceeded our expectations. The best is the Amritsari Kulcha - Crisp, freshly made, served hot. Second best is Chole bhature. Great place, ambience wise and hospitality wise too.

This place has been a new management recently and my first experience has been most terrible. I visited with a friend for an evening catch up after work. We had a nice meal but the lady at the desk (who is supposedly Miss Punjaban UK) kept on disturbing our chat repeatedly as she wanted us out the moment we finished our meal even though more than half of the restaurant seats were not occupied. She lacked basic manners and we felt like being thrown out of a restaurant by someone who didn't known ABC of British manners. Never visiting this place again and wont recommend to anyone who has self respect.

Arriving at this rather depressing corner of industrial Smethwick, expectations of good food were rather low. The rather shabby building on a street corner surrounded by old factory units and semi-derelict buildings isn’t the most inviting place to dine. Nevertheless, and keeping an open mind, we went in and found the place empty and in semi-darkness although it was quite early in the evening. Our host was rather indifferent to our presence making no effort to offer us menus. We eventually found one and ordered one of their signature dishes, Amritsar Kulcha, as one of our starters. This had been recommended to us and it was really was very tasty. I would have this again anytime. The Nan and the Rice were also very good. Sadly, that’s as good as it got. The Fish Pakora was very dry and tasted as though it had been cooked and re-heated, the Keema was virtually tasteless. The Chicken Curry was just about okay but really nothing special. The only draft beer on offer was one of the UK-made pseudo-Indian lagers but the barrel was empty so we were forced to buy bottled beers. They charged us £5 for a 300ml bottle of lager, the stuff you buy at the supermarket for little over a quid. This is disgraceful. All in all, a not very inviting meal in a not very inviting restaurant

Ate here after mooring on the local canal. This was the only place to eat. First the good points: food is great and they swept the floor under our table before we sat down after we asked them to. The negatives outweigh the positives. The place is filthy, food up the wallpaper, radiators black with dust and your feet stick to the floor. They charged 5 pounds for half a lager which was supposed to be bottled Stella. No bottle and no price list for drinks. Don't go here if you want a clean restaurant and a pint, do go if you want good food and don't care about hygiene and being ripped off for your alcohol.

Got the food came back home really axcited about my favourite dish however when i opened the box i was deeply disappointed to see that it is not the same dish as i ate in the resturant. I am 100% sure that they gave me tin saag which cost only £0.70 and theh charged me for same £6.00.Piece of advice if you got there to get take away food always open the food box and check before you leave because they will never agree if you call them later and complain about it.

Ya que es un tiempo de espera después de que dio la orden. Relleno de patata en kulcha era sosa y sin cocer. Kulcha estaba sin cocer desde dentro y muy gruesas. Golu da dhaba was highly recommended by friends and thus was the reason we visited. There is very little to say about the ambience, much lesser to say about a dhaba which doesn't serve 'parathas'! This led to an immediate disappointment and would have lingered on if not for their signature, Amritsari kukcha'. This was the only saviour.Hygeine is not particularly commendable and it's poorly staffed leading to delay in service and compromise with hygeine.I wouldn't revisit.

When the food came it was fab, tasted just like home cooking, the Amritsari kulcha was served just like at home on a thali with chana, yogurt and achar, other members of the family had other options and all the portions were a good serving. I was full for the rest of the day. The only disappointment was the spicey tea which was not a fresh brew it was an Asda spice teabag so the rest had tea when we got back home. Went there with friends, We all had the Amirstari Kulcha at £5.99, great price for small portion of chana curry, yoghurt, pickle, and an average size kulcha nan.I didn't fancy the kulcha nan, which had, potato, onions, inside it, So I asked if I could change the nan for a normal plain nan.....i was told NO!! its how the complete dish is served. The K nan was tasty, but I found it too heavy full of a potato mix, which in my opinion didn't really go well with the channa curry, you lost the last of the curry with the K nan. Some items are very expensive...ie, gulab juman at £1.99 for 2 pieces, a small portion of gajar halwa at £2.99, mango lassi at £2.99 for an average size glass, 1 popadom at £1.99. It does take time for food to come but that's because it's freshly made. Be prepared to wait up to 40 mins.Service - a bit hit and miss. You can be standing at the counter quite awhile to place an order. They need to have one person take the orders and another to pass the orders to the kitchen. More staff required on counter and serving waiters. On our last visit we had to remind the staff that we were still waiting for our drinks 4 times. Apart from that the food is tasty and hot.Their mixed grill is never burnt neither does it taste like that charcoal taste if you know what I mean. They serve both veg and meat dishes. They do not sell Alcohol. They were allowing it to be bought onto the premises but on our last visit there was a sign stating no Alcohol allowed. Which is good as it's a nice place where you can go with young kids and family. We have been before where the men would sit with their bottles and get rowdy!!They accept cash only.Parking is on the side street only. Watch out for the traffic wardens though!

Meal was very tasty...we ordered desi bakra, matar paneer, lassi, naan, roti, biryani...Everything was the way it taste in good dhaba in India...Portions were good enough and on larger side.Prices are very reasonable, service was slow but very responsive and personal...Highly recommended for foodies...We went for paranthas, but we were told its served only till lunch...Look forward for another visit since its quite far from London...hope it will happen soon.

Love this place. Not the best location as parking a nightmare and nor the best looking restaurant but all is forgiven as food is lovely. Staff are attentive and very helpful. Limited menu choice but kulchas a firm favourite as well as tandoori roti and dhal makhni. Tastiest mango lassi. Great for lunch. Prices very reasonable. No alcohol license. Cash only. We love this place.

Food was amazing but the decor leaves a lot to be desired. If you can look past this then this place is definately worth a trip even if its just for the food. Possibly take out might be best next time.

I have been to this place multiple times, and sometime seven pick up food on my way back to manchester. You can't go wrong with certain items such as amritsari kulcha , paronthey, rajma-chawal. However, after eating all these your expectations are upped to a level you only hope the best amongst other stuff served here. Unfortunately chilly chicken or certain other dishes aren't upto scratch. With that said, no regrets to say I won't go again and I would always go there whenever I have a chance for amritsari kulcha. Staff are simple, polite and sincere guys, may be language helped me. This place is more about budget food with authentic tastet than decor, staff or parking.

So I decided to pop into this place after reading about it on trip advisor. When u walk into the place it looks really shabby and requires doing up. I opted for a take away. I had the Amritsari Kulcha it was different but nice, however you get chick pea curry and yogurt and onions all for £3.99 which is good value for money. I also has the chilli paneer it was nice but not too spicy, would have been good is the paneer had been lightly fried.

No frills tasty food at a good price and friendly service. Delicious Baingan bharta, Butter chicken, Bakri, Amritsari kulcha and a steel glass full of Lassi - Punjab style. Generally on the spicier side so have to tell the chef how you want it. definitely will be going there again

hi tried this place & it was average, don't get me wrong it's a good service, kind staff & very well located.. but the hype wasn't as I expected but overall it's ok. prices are reasonable as each item is individualised and any add on like chapatti or naan is priced separate.. each taste differs depending if you're a diner.., but would reccomemd to try for individual opinion.. my opinion is based upon what I ate n what I thought

I belong to Amritsar so i will say nothing can match that flavor But outside Amritsar, this is the best kulcha by far. It gives you that authentic touch. We also ordered tikki chana chat, it was also delicious. We did not like dahi bhalla much.Service was really good and with a smile :-)Moreover they had that typical punjabi accent which i loved. Not a hifi place, but do visit if you want to get the flavor of authentic amritsari food.

A friend of mine recommended Golu Da Dhaba to me a few months ago and I haven't been to any other indian restaurant since. The food is just like it is in the Punjab. The chole bhature are melt in the mouth and cost less than a fiver!I have only used it as a takeaway so far so cant comment on the service.Awesome authentic food!

Worth a Visit. Their special; dish 'Amritsari Kulcha' is something you cannot find in anywhere else in Birmingham. Other dishes like chat and Rajma Chawal are also yum. I would love to visit there at least twice a month.

The food here is amazing, very tasty and cheap. However the decor and cleanliness isn't up to scratch. Although it is a dhaba It needs improvement- maybe some wooden furniture a little bit desi rather than the dirty furniture and random sofa. I would still go back for the amritsari Kulcha dish- it is mouth watering. Money well spent.

A good little place to go, when you don't want the formality of dressing for dinner but don't fancy fish & chips. Basic food which is not pretentious. Service is definitely with a smile & they seem to enjoy what they do.It deserves to be more popular and has a menu that you will definitely want to work through. It is neat & clean with no odours permeating from the kitche . The

Their speciality dishes are delicious! Especially the vegetarian options. I would recommend their famous Amritsari Kulcha and Aloo Tikki Chaat. If you can live with the basic ambience of the dhaba style cafe and off the beaten track location, then this place is definitely worth a visit. Very good value and friendly owners.

This place serves authentic punjabi cuisine. A good indicator of this is how many punjabi customers you see in there.Atmosphere is ok, quite spacious for what it is, nothing fancy, food was decent. I'd say 7.5/10 for food, but I do test out a lot of Punjabi places, so have had better.Staff were decent, and well mannered. My wife really enjoyed her veggie options (Chilli Paneer & Shahi Paneer), we all enjoyed our Garlic naans.I thought my Fish Pakoras were great, my Lamb curry was ok, but not near the best I've had.
