Golden Wye in Ashford

We had travelled from The North to visit family in Kent and we were hopeful this Chinese take away would be great….unfortunately it wasn’t ! The lemon chicken was good, however the chicken balls had that ‘overused oil twang ‘ and the seafood Thai red curry was poor. The egg fried rice was dry and the prawn crackers were past their best. All in all I wish I would have used an App to provide our Chinese meal. I would not recommend .

Great value for money. Not high end, but classic takeaway, no thrills.

The best Chinese ever!....food is always steaming hot, good quality and non greasy.....quickest service never more than 10 mins....always served with a smile, lovely staff...thankyou Golden wye

Food was pretty good, 4/5 stars. A little oily, but as good any other the Ashford area has to offer. Lady was very nice, but couple issues: 1. Cash only (in 2023!), you can get a pos kit for around 1.5% of sales, why lose trade over 1.5%?? Spend money to make money. 2. Open lunch time advertised in Google, but only to 1.30pm instead of the search engine listed 2pm, and the biggest issue was finding out they require 24 hour advanced order ( for lunchtime only), only after getting there and seeing pined up menu. Wasted journey, very unusual policy. 3. This applies to most other Chinese restaurants, but over £4 for egg rice, and over £4 for seaweed (shredded greens, deep fried)? Needs to stop.

We’re regulars ordering, at least twice a month. Never let down by the food, it’s always delicious, fresh, hot and a sizeable portion. Lovely little takeaway!

Atmosphere was dead but I think COVID killed that and only takeaway still. Food was great, price for a bag of prawn crackers was a joke, luckily ordered enough to get free bag

Good takeaway but remember only accepts cash. No cards. Wide menu with all the usual favourites. There is a restaurant but not really used now. good sized portions.

Recently moved to the area and wanted to try Golden Wye after hearing such great things. Really blown away by how great it was. Salt and Pepper Squid and Prawn Balls in particular really delicious. Got a huge amount for our money. Will definitely be back

Ordered satay King prawns and got king prawn with green pepper, hubby ordered beef with tomatoes which you can't really get very wrong but the sauce was super sweet and looked curdled. We have duck spring rolls that tasted sour and we had to throw them away. Really really poor quality food. 😢

Disappointed for my first visit. They were clearly very busy and there was a long wait. The chicken was the cheap stuff that when you eat it is “ crunchy “. They inject saline into it to pad it out and when you cook it the texture changes . The broccoli dish was soggy and the tofu wasn’t cooked properly. Chips and rice were ok. Won’t rush to go back here again .

Golden recommended by friends some time ago and we have used it several times over the last year. Always very happy with the food. Ordered last week; prawn chow mein, hot and sour soup, chicken chow mein, spring rolls. All food was delicious and hot and plentiful. That's why I drive nearly 15 minutes to the restaurant. Only a takeaway now despite having a small seating area. Very easy to order over the phone with quick, friendly service. They have only ever accepted payment in cash, no cards. Not sure what HRMC think about that but Golden carries on! All dishes recommended I would say.

The food is quite pricey and I expected good quality as a result, first time ordering from here. The portions were stingy to say the least and the food just wasn’t at all what I expected. The food was terribly greasy and dripping in oil, definitely won’t be ordering again... was a disappointing dinner :(

Best Chinese takeaway in ashford by far.

Just nipped in for a quick takeaway. Restaurant area looks a bit bare so I doubt I would choose to eat in the restaurant part. But I got a King Prawn Kung Po with fried rice that's as good as I have had anywhere. Plenty of prawns and tasted really fresh. Good value as well I thought and friendly staff.

We have used this takeaway three times in the last 4 weeks. I was pleasantly surprised by the egg fried rice as they had used brown rice, which we use all the time at home. We have also had kung po prawn, kung po chicken, the mixed starter & the duck & pancakes. Each request for extra spring onion has been met. The satay chicken comes with the satay sauce already on it, sitting on a bed of lettuce. We have found it very hard in the past to find a decent Chinese takeaway, but this one is consistently good.

Local Chinese Takeaway for us so we are always using it (probably too much as it’s so yummy!) Food always tastes fresh and of good quality. Not greasy like some takeaways. Very highly recommended!

Had a nice take out from here, the chilli beef is good, Singapore noodles and Chow mein were average as they were quite dry. Chicken satay is nice as well as the Sweet and Sour Chinese Hong Kong style. Would come here again.

Food was very good. If you get caught by the level crossing it can delay journey to or from restaurant. Good price for dishes. Would use again. However the prices listed on line do not match up with the bill.

this place was recommended by friends i found the service and food great very impressed on my first visit reasonably priced good portions will certainly return. just a note they only take cash not sure why.

My wife and I are frequent visitors for there for our Chinese fix. Excellent food. Very quick and consistent. The young couple behind the counter are always a hoot.

Great food, good value and service with a smile - what more can you ask for!! Don't normal go for the set menus, we tend to mix it up a bit but are never disappointed

Great for take aways (although could do with refreshing menu)-have not even in as always seems very quiet.

Visited this out of the way restaurant on a sleepy summer day, in the pleasantly sleepy village of Wye. They provide good, honest Chinese food at a reasonable price and with politely efficient and considerate service. I hope to return again some fine day.

I work in Wye and occasionally pop into the Golden Wye for lunch, the lady is very friendly and helpful, always welcoming with a huge smile on her face. The restaurant make this village a lot more bearable! Best chips I've ever purchased from a Chinese Restaurant! Recently been improved, and has made a huge difference.. love this place!

Popped in for a takeaway ,girl taking the orders was polite and efficient. Only waited about 15 minutes even though it was busy about 3 people before us and 2 after. The girl even opened the door for every customer ,that even impressed my husband ,you don't get that service in many places these days !! The food was delicious even got a free bottle of coke thrown in.We would recommend this Chinese to everyone.

I find it very hard to find a decent Chinese restaurant these days. Since golden wye have reopened I am so impressed by the freshness of food and service. We have ordered take out twice this month and both times it has been quick and really tasty. The young lady behind the counter is polite and helpful, even when a local troublemaker who spends his days hanging round a bus stop came in and started making himself a nuisance. We are lucky to have you in the village!

We have been customers of the Golden Wye since we moved to the village four years ago. The food is consistently well cooked and the service very friendly. On a few occasions we have dined in the restaurant, both just the two of us, and with visiting relatives. Whilst the surroundings might be described as a little old fashioned, the welcome is always warm and the food is consistently good.

This is our go-to local take-out, never have we been disappointed. I couldn't recommend it more highly. Please note that the above number rarely/never works. You're far more likely to reach them on 01233 811871.

We ordered a take-away from here, to be honest having read the reviews on trip advisor I was intrigued as the menu read like a bog standard English Chinese take-away and unfortunately that's exactly what it was, though probably not that good.If you like a 1970's Chinese take-away, then good luck, if you have read these reviews and are looking for good Chinese food then avoid.

Do ignore the photograph above, but at the time of this review it was NOT The Golden Wye but elsewhere. However, DO take note that this restaurant/ takeaway has been serving the local and wider community for many years, during which time it has established an enviable reputation for good, freshly cooked, tasty Chinese cuisine, served with much charm and friendliness, with good timing and at very competitive prices.We have takeaway usually every week, and have done so for over 20 years, but still look forward to the next one. During this time we have not had a single bad meal. We are so lucky to have this gem within our village.

Have been a customer of theirs for years and have always enjoyed the food, until I collected the takeaway order and got home to find its was the wrong food not our order. So back in the car for a 10 minute car drive back, at once the lady behind the bar apologised for the incorrect order and took the wrong order away and explained the mix up with the order and asked for the extra £6.00 for the correct order, which I was not happy about as I have not made two trips to try to get dinner. The lady refused to budge on the £6.00 (we have been loyal customer for 8 years) so I paid up took my order only to find once I got home the food was STONE COLD it must have been sitting their the whole time. Hence we have not been back nor will we ever return they made have my £6.00 pounds but they will never get anymore of my custom.

On a visit to Wye, we came accross the Golden Wye restaurant. Showing my Chinese in-laws around Kent, I decided it may be a nice place to eat dinner - once I collect my wife from work. Having checked trip advisor's raving reviews for the restaurant, we were certain it would be enjoyable. Long story short: we wated 90 minutes for JUST 4 starters, service was slow, unattentive, whilst stating (in Mandarin and English) "sorry, we are really busy tonight." There were only two tables including ours at that time. We were given soups we did not order and we felt like they had forgotten us. A party of nine (second table) had decided that the wait/service was enough, they all decided to up and leave, paying for their drinks as they too had just had 1 starter platter between 9. Likewise, we decided to end our visit to the Golden Wye (much to the visible annoyance of the manager...who eventually muttered a "sorry" when my wife and I explained the dire service and wait).I appreciate the food would not be as god as in China (obviously) but the in-laws own restaurants in the PRC and were clueless about why we were made to wait in a seemingly empty restaurant, with no explaination or attempt to sugar-coat their shortcomings.Don't go.

I can only say why can't other chinese restaurant be like Golden Wye in Wye, superb food cooked to perfection and the staff are so lovely, keep it up.

I love a good Chinese and this is certainly good, the only place I've eaten better Chinese is in Birmingham. The food is consistently good and priced very reasonably

We fancied a Chinese takeaway meal, Where?, There is only one place in Kent, Golden Wye in Wye. Great choice of great food at a very good price.Served by those lovely ladies who are so kind and polite. Well done again Golden Wye

Went here on recommendation one evening with friends and all felt that we did not receive value for money. The selection was limited and tended towards deep fried food with little alternative choice and the drinks were really overpriced, especially the wine. All this and little atmosphere saw us leave soon after our meal with no intention to return.

We have been getting takeaway grub from here almost weekly for a good few years and have never had anything but high quality Chinese food, extremely tasty, good quality ingredients, unbeatable value, and importantly efficient and highly personable service that makes going in to Golden Wye a delight.We are so lucky in Wye to have this restaurant along with excellent Indian, Italian, and Fine Dining Restaurants, as well as 3 pubs serving more than acceptable food There cannot be many villages of this size boasting 7 good eating options.Back to Golden Wye to say that it also offers a very pleasant table service room in which to enjoy the splendid Chinese cuisine and attentive service.

I Have been coming here for a while and it's by far the best in the area.The food is flavorsome reasonably priced and also tastes very fresh.I have had takeaways,as well as a sit down meal the lady's that work in there are very friendly and always have a smile on their face.I will always go there and you will see what I mean if you try it.

After moving to Ashford from North Kent, we thought we had the best takeaway where we used to live, but driving 46 miles for a meal is rediculous. We tried loads all around the area, it all seemed as though we were not to find anything except second rate food.Until we found "Goldern Wye" in Wye, an absolute gem.An extensive menu, cooked to perfection, with such nice and friendly staff, just like we are used to. Well done Golden Wye A first class restaurant.

Very friendly service and tasty food. I have yet to eat in there, we have only used them for take-aways, but I hear they do All You Can Eat menus which would definately be worth checking out in the not too distant future!

The village of Wye is indeed lucky to have such a consistently reliable Chinese Restaurant and Takeaway as Golden Wye which dishes up good, tasty food, lunch and evenings 7 days a week with I guess only Christmas Day not open. The service is brilliant with short waiting times.Over the best part of 10 years we have availed ourselves of mainly the takeaway service at least once every two weeks or so and in all of that time can only recall one single occasion when the high standard slipped a bit. Now that's not bad isn't it?Highly recommended, and it is worth travelling to from outside the village as you will not find better in the entire Ashford area.

Good food, cooked quickly in good portions at good prices. I would have scored higher but has been a little greasy once or twice but not enough to stop me going back. Best fast food in Wye, we use it every 6-8 wks

This is our local chinese takeaway and I reckon one of the best I have ever used. The food comes in good sized portions, it is extremely tasty and filling. I have eaten here pretty much at least once a month for the last 5 years and NEVER had a bad takeaway. The lady who is usually out the front is lovely and always remembers all the locals.As a restaurant I have only used it once or twice as the meals tend to be smaller and more expensive than the takeaway for some reason! It still tastes excellent though so dont let that put you off if you want to sit down and have a meal but for me its nicer to just sit in front of the telly with a nice big box of rice and sweet and sour chicken!

have say, what a lovely lady who runs the front of house, we have sitten and eaten a few times but mostly take away. The food is alway brilliant and the service too.

We enjoyed a very nice meal here. The food was freshly prepared and of good quality.

Despite being a 20 minute drive away and having multiple local places offering free delivery, we always opt for the Golden Wye. Takeaways at a reasonable price but the quality is much better than any in the TN23,24,25 post codes that we have tried. Chicken Satay on Skewers and Black Bean Chicken are top notch!
