I chose to come here because it was rated in one of the Top 10 places to eat fish and chips. I ordered the cod and chips which was huge. The fish was about the length of my lower arm. The fish was thinly battered and crispy. The cod itself didn’t have much taste so I’m not sure if it was fresh or frozen. Because the batter was thin it also fell apart and became soggy easily. Chips were average. As for the Tartare sauce that some were raving about. It’s nice but again nothing wowing. When I left there was a crowd ordering their lunch takeouts. I would say this place depends on your preference. As I like super crispy bites I find the batter softened too fast. Overall still a good meal. Music is good though.

The fish & chips aren't bad but nothing exceptional, I've had much better ones with fresh fish in central London. Severely lacking in taste and the tartar sauce served with it is not in sufficient quantity to appreciate it on all the fish. The Golden Union is often cited in “top” blogs and articles but I find it overrated, others would be more deserving of the ranking. Positive all the same: correct, good products, well located if you want to take a break on Oxford Street, it does the trick. The service is very good and warm. The bill is a little too expensive compared to other good fish & chips.

The best Fish and Chips in London, absolutely brilliant staff, friendly, smiling and very good advice, thank you Aurore! The fish and tartar sauce are excellent, everything is homemade. Be careful, the restaurant has few seats but you can wait your turn on site or take away. The prices are quite reasonable, count between £17 and £20 for fish and chips. I highly recommend this tasty little spot for the taste buds.

No, who here recommends it? I really just trust and filter Naver blogs and cafes. I stopped by because there were a lot of posts saying it was delicious, but other fish and chip shops are much better. If you want to throw money away, go ahead. I paid 25 pounds. Oh, and there was a smell of marijuana near the person making the food.

All good - a small but cosy and a tactfully decorated establishment dotted with framed pictures depicting food: ice cream, knickerbocker glory and happy smiley children in pastel colours; the establishment was full of happy customers consuming delicious, freshly cooked food delivered by happy, smiley and attentive waitresses who were eager to please. There was a 30 minute wait for a table when we arrived (3 adults + 2 children) but the wait was worth it - food arrived piping hot, freshly cooked and was delicious to taste and eat, in-fact, the chunky chips were so delicious that I would have 'died' in their absence; all condiments: from tartare sauce, vinegar, a slice of lemon, salt & pepper were all in place, and we devoured the food with famished hunger and and an appetite akin to a horse. Fish & Chips, the main or only dish of the place was topped up with soft vanilla ice cream and sticky strawberry sauce as an after-treat, which brought a very nice end to our culinary adventure nicely! This is the pop-in place for me whenever I'm in London - I highly, highly recommend it!

Fish and chips at the golden union! Definitely one of the better restaurants to have your fish and chips. The fish were crispy, the chips were decent, and the service was very very friendly and fast. Upon entering, you will be asked if you have any allergies and will be guided to your table. I don't like fish, but it's delicious and plentiful here. The fries are plentiful and delicious! The customer service at this establishment is absolutely appalling, the man at the takeaway desk (he’s extremely short, brown hair and balding and rude) gave me raw chips, to add insult to injury, when I asked for a ketchup and mayonnaise he was extremely rude and told me that I get one ketchup free and had to pay for the tiny pot of mayonnaise. He said this very loudly in front of others as if I had done something wrong and I was being very polite. IF ANY MANAGERS SEE THIS REVIEW FIRE HIM IMMEDIATELY. He is terrible at his job, and I have been coming here for a long time and have never had a bad thing to say until my encounter with him.

I had the plaice n chips. The fish was nice but the batter was way too greasy and this destroyed the whole taste. And the chips were not nice at all. The only positive thing was that the ladies who work there were all super nice and worked extremely hard to serve this high number of customers.

Honestly quite disappointing, specialising on fish and chips but failing in every way.. the chips and the fish were really bland/ no seasoning at all, the vinegar didn’t even help! The sauce on the other hand was indeed quite good. The service was alright but everyone in the restaurant seemed quite displeased, leaving a lot of leftovers.. The interior was very nice but couldn’t really elevate our mood! Overall quite disappointing..

The price is not what they indicate on the door. Then they charge you 17.9 and separate taxes. 12% rates. It seems like a joke to me. You come out smelling fried. Very friendly and friendly service. We ordered cod and they gave us another fish. I won't go again when I'm in London

I got cod fish and chips here and it was really good. I would recommend going here if you want the real deal “fish and chips”! The pricing ended up being about $24, but I think it was worth it.

Visited Golden Union Fish and Chips and had an overall decent experience. The atmosphere was pleasant and welcoming, which made for an enjoyable dining environment. The fish was cooked well and had a nice, crispy batter, while the chips were hot and fresh. The King Prawn was spot on. However, I did feel that the prices were a bit steep for what you get. It’s a solid choice if you’re craving fish and chips, but be prepared to spend a bit more than you might at other places. Overall, it was okay, I would recommend and defiling return

Cod potato chips are delicious. The best fish I've ever eaten. I wonder if the atmosphere is that important when eating fried fish, but the interior was clean and trendy. There was a music box, and I liked it because it also had Korean songs.

This is a good fish and chip place. Seating area is simple but that’s kind of what you want from a chippie. Staff are helpful and the food is good. I had also had a latte which was so so but I should have gone for a tea. Mushy peas were good as often places skimp on those, but a bit pricey

A very famous fish and chips restaurant in central london. A very thin layer of batter and the fish is fresh. In terms of size, its not big for the fish, and not a very generous amount of chips as well, given chips is very cheap stuff. However their tartare sauce is actually quite nice. Fish and chips cost 17.95 + service charge is quite expensive. Given the portion is not big. Probably wouldnt visit again as nothing special and too expensive for a fish.

Original fish & chips, very good and variety of fish, there is something for everyone. Tables a little close and a little smell of fried food on the clothes when leaving 🤥 but it's worth the detour anyway.

Too many people, so at first we didn't have a table for 6, but enough people left for us to eat together before we even got served. The dishes are MASSIVE. You eat a lot for not much, and it's really good. Also, one other thing that was delicious is their tartar sauce. I tasted French ones that were less good than this one. And the French literally invented this sauce.

Come 2019, we tried again this year and we are still just as satisfied!! The dishes are fresh and delicious and the welcome is warm. Thank you to the staff for your welcome and in particular to the waitress who speaks French and who accompanied us throughout our meal.

Saw the place on a list of best fish & chips joints in London and it didn't disappoint. Fish was fresh and the chips were good. Wife had Haddock and I had Cod. The haddock is better but definitely denser and more filling. Cod portion was the perfect size. I may suggest the fish bites if you're interested in a higher batter-to-fish ratio. Don't skip the curry sauce. It's the underground star of the show. Gives the chips the flavor they need since they're only fried once.

My third time coming here and was quite disappointed. I’m not sure if it was because we came close to closing but the food just didn’t hit the same way. I ordered the plant based fish and chips and the fish itself was not warm and felt unseasoned. Similar the chips lacked depth of seasoning. Service was okay but if you choose to go recommend going earlier in the day. Love this concept and the atmosphere though as a vegetarian!

The staff was very welcoming and truly enjoy their work. Aurora, Betty and Maria have excellent service. The fish was very fresh and the chips amazing, The portion was very generous. We will be back.

I didn’t take photo but i could say it’s typical fish and chips (not bad) and i waited long queue for this (25-30mins) . Without queue it can work.

The two of us spontaneously ate there in the afternoon. Were placed quickly and our order was taken. Service was friendly and quick. Food tasted good. The only negative point is the service fee, which you have to pay but is not pointed out in advance but only appears on the invoice.

I went for dinner, it wasn't crowded, I didn't wait in line, the fish was a little oily, the potatoes and especially the sauce were very nice. I drank ale. I paid GBP 26.88 including service.

The fish was okay, but monotonous, and the fries were very weak. They added a service fee of over £5 to the bill which was about £42. The older waitress was very nice, but the younger one was not. She looked like she worked there as a punishment. You can definitely eat somewhere else similar and cheaper.

Do not go with more than 4 people, they will have you waiting forever and you will see the people who have arrived later than you pass by and you will continue waiting.

Food was not great at all i had to go and get someone to take my order even to pay I had to find someone when the bill came service charge was added without notifying me about it when confronted all she side is you already paid and thats not her problem this place is a scam will not go back.

Looking for a fish & chips in the Oxford Circus area, we found "Golden Union" in a small street. Cozy atmosphere with much appreciated details. Menu with various proposals: from classic to vegan. Very good dishes, with a crispy frying batter at the right point. Small aside for the onion rings: super generous portion with really good sizeable onion rings. As regards the price, I would say similar to the proposal of the city of London and the quality of the products. Super recommended.

I had dinner here before a show a few weeks ago. I was visiting from overseas and craving fish ‘n chips. The location was close to my hotel and nearby the theatre, not too far from a major street. I was a solo diner and it was quite busy. I didn’t have to wait for a table. The service was quick and staff were super nice. I got the haddock. Large portions and the tartare sauce was amazing!!! It’s not like other places. I wish I order an extra cup.

After a few years I was in this restaurant for the second time and again I was not disappointed. The food was really tasty and freshly prepared, just as I remembered. The service was okay, even if I was perhaps expecting a little more - perhaps typically high standards as a German guest. The ambience was definitely appealing and created a relaxed atmosphere. All in all, definitely a recommendation and I would like to come back here on my next trip to London.
