Absolutely the best around! Aurora and all the team members are delightful, professional, kind, and give great service. We had add an additional person to our group and they found a way to make it happen. Great menu with lots of options and they are always prompt and welcoming. Repeat customer here every time I’m in London for work.

Informal and welcoming place, perfect for enjoying excellent fish and chips in the heart of Soho. They don't take reservations but the service was very fast and the staff were friendly. The fish and chips arrived piping hot, generous portions and authentic flavor. We had two fish and chips, two beers and a Coke Zero: final bill 57 pounds, absolutely in line with the area and the quality. Recommended if you are looking for a typical English meal without too much waiting.

We went there at around 12:30, not crowded at all. The lighting was a bit dim, with red neon light sign in the restaurant. We ordered haddock with chips, the fried fish was huge, almost as long as my forearm. It was really soft and juicy and has rich umami (you may consider it fishy if you are not a seafood lover). Chips were chunky and crispy, unsalted. The tartare sauce goes really well with the fish. The other dish we ordered was the chicken and mushroom pie, it has a rich flavour and the beef gravy tasted really good. Overall I would recommend it to tourists who want authentic fish and chips.

I went on a Sunday afternoon around 15:30-16:00, and I only waited 5 minutes for a table. The interior is dominated by red tones and has a cute decoration. In terms of taste, I think it was pretty good. Cod & chips: ***** (£17.95) I liked it very much, the fish was crispy and juicy. The fries were cut and fried in the traditional way and I loved the sauce that came with the fish. Whitstable bay beer: *****(5.95 pounds) I chose this beer to accompany the fish, I highly recommend it. Pickled Gherkin: **** (1.95 pounds) I said pickle as it would go well with fish and potatoes, it can be requested according to preference. Recommended 👍

Personally, I like it so much that I visit every time I come to London. Even my mother, who is picky about food, said that cod fish and chips suited her taste. Good location in Soho Other menus are okay, but I recommend just ordering a code based on the number of people.

Very good fish and chips, the fish was very generous and tasty! Too bad the fries weren't homemade, that would have been a real plus. On the other hand, it was really cold in the room, which spoiled the experience a little. Be careful, not much space in the restaurant.

Great atmosphere at Golden Union! The place feels cozy and lively. Aurore, our waitress, was super friendly and really helpful — she even spoke French with us, which made things easier. The food was tasty, no doubt about it, but wow… it was very greasy. I think my fish and chips are still sliding around in my stomach like they’re on an oil slick! Still, worth the visit if you’re craving a classic British treat with a warm welcome.

Aurore made us very welcome, plus she spoke French which helped us a lot. Very helpful, clear in explaining each dish to us. Homemade fries, very soft inside... tartar sauce to die for. Fresh, succulent and very good fish. We enjoyed ourselves.

She took the time to explain the menu and the different types of fish to us, with a lot of patience. Very smiling with good advice, she made our meal even more enjoyable. This is a fish and chips restaurant that I rushed into. Unlike the red lighting, families can enter;; The songs are good and the food is good too. The service from the staff was also good.

Fish was fried to perfection, but the chips were not my favorite (I prefer the American style fry). Love the interior decor as sort of a diner vibe. Service was so so so friendly and welcoming. Good central location too.

If I’ve ever had bad fish and chips, this was it. I’m not picky and I rarely leave food on my plate, but if I’d taken one more bite of this, I would’ve gotten sick. The chips had a weird aftertaste and weren’t soft inside, and the fish just fell apart and had no flavor. All I could taste was the oil. And after I left most of it on the plate, the server girl just stood there waiting to see if I’d say anything about the tip—without even asking why I hadn’t touched my food. All that for £20…

Visited the store and loved the fish and chips, had the Haddock and it was fantastic, would recommend anyone who is near to come and have a try.

The staff are very friendly I ordered Cod & Chips, and the frying oil was clean and light, so I recommend it! I didn't order tartar separately, just sprinkled vinegar and salt on it and it was savory and delicious! I asked for a box of the remaining French fries and they gave it to me. Recommended if you want to eat fish and chips!!!

I’m on a little tour in the uk and was excited to try the fish and chips . I was happy to try come this time of the year when it’s not too cold or hot because I have heard about how hot it gets during the summer inside . When I got there with my family on Saturday , it was very cold , at first I thought it was the draft coming from the door since we were standing close to the wall menu . I looked at the staff and everyone was wearing t shirts so I guessed it was warmer inside instead . So we decided to eat inside. But even after we were sat down , it was very cold . I got up to check the radiators and realised they were not on . I called the staff too let them know . I had to remove my jacket for my shiverring son . The food was great but we could not enjoy it to the maximum cause it felt like we were eating outside . Our waitress Betty was great an explaining the fishes and gave us a few great suggestions which we appreciated . This was nice , large and hot at the begining but the fish went cold after some time and I’m guessing it’s because of how cold it was . But it was good food. We left a early cause no amount of food should make you ill . Compliments to the chefs though

The place is very nice. It can be busy sometimes, you may have to wait a few minutes. Its location is considered central. I definitely recommend you to go there once. Fish and chips were delicious. I firmly believe that we should put the north and south divide to rest. Northerners prefer haddock and everything fried in tallow, whereas we southerners are more used to the subtle tasting cod and vegetable oils for frying. Simple case of each to their own. The fish and chips served here is never cheap but the freshness and cooking justify the price. My fish portion was actually more akin to a child’s portion. Any chippy that features proper pork sausages on its menu is my kinda chippy.

I came here back in 2018 with my parents, then just yesterday with my husband we returned and the experience was just exactly the same. Super nice staff, even more options since I've become a vegetarian since then, and most importantly the food was amazing! Fresh hot and fast. what more can one ask for!

I had a vegan fish and chips and couldn't finish it. I didn't like it. No flavor reminiscent of fish. The red lights are very disturbing while you eat. I wouldn't return.

Cleanest place we had been in on our short trip to London, staff were friendly, food was priced decently and the food was tasty. There was also lots of vegan options for my wife which was a nice find. Would highly recommend.

I chose to come here because it was rated in one of the Top 10 places to eat fish and chips. I ordered the cod and chips which was huge. The fish was about the length of my lower arm. The fish was thinly battered and crispy. The cod itself didn’t have much taste so I’m not sure if it was fresh or frozen. Because the batter was thin it also fell apart and became soggy easily. Chips were average. As for the Tartare sauce that some were raving about. It’s nice but again nothing wowing. When I left there was a crowd ordering their lunch takeouts. I would say this place depends on your preference. As I like super crispy bites I find the batter softened too fast. Overall still a good meal. Music is good though.

The fish & chips aren't bad but nothing exceptional, I've had much better ones with fresh fish in central London. Severely lacking in taste and the tartar sauce served with it is not in sufficient quantity to appreciate it on all the fish. The Golden Union is often cited in “top” blogs and articles but I find it overrated, others would be more deserving of the ranking. Positive all the same: correct, good products, well located if you want to take a break on Oxford Street, it does the trick. The service is very good and warm. The bill is a little too expensive compared to other good fish & chips.

The best Fish and Chips in London, absolutely brilliant staff, friendly, smiling and very good advice, thank you Aurore! The fish and tartar sauce are excellent, everything is homemade. Be careful, the restaurant has few seats but you can wait your turn on site or take away. The prices are quite reasonable, count between £17 and £20 for fish and chips. I highly recommend this tasty little spot for the taste buds.

No, who here recommends it? I really just trust and filter Naver blogs and cafes. I stopped by because there were a lot of posts saying it was delicious, but other fish and chip shops are much better. If you want to throw money away, go ahead. I paid 25 pounds. Oh, and there was a smell of marijuana near the person making the food.

All good - a small but cosy and a tactfully decorated establishment dotted with framed pictures depicting food: ice cream, knickerbocker glory and happy smiley children in pastel colours; the establishment was full of happy customers consuming delicious, freshly cooked food delivered by happy, smiley and attentive waitresses who were eager to please. There was a 30 minute wait for a table when we arrived (3 adults + 2 children) but the wait was worth it - food arrived piping hot, freshly cooked and was delicious to taste and eat, in-fact, the chunky chips were so delicious that I would have 'died' in their absence; all condiments: from tartare sauce, vinegar, a slice of lemon, salt & pepper were all in place, and we devoured the food with famished hunger and and an appetite akin to a horse. Fish & Chips, the main or only dish of the place was topped up with soft vanilla ice cream and sticky strawberry sauce as an after-treat, which brought a very nice end to our culinary adventure nicely! This is the pop-in place for me whenever I'm in London - I highly, highly recommend it!

The customer service at this establishment is absolutely appalling, the man at the takeaway desk (he’s extremely short, brown hair and balding and rude) gave me raw chips, to add insult to injury, when I asked for a ketchup and mayonnaise he was extremely rude and told me that I get one ketchup free and had to pay for the tiny pot of mayonnaise. He said this very loudly in front of others as if I had done something wrong and I was being very polite. IF ANY MANAGERS SEE THIS REVIEW FIRE HIM IMMEDIATELY. He is terrible at his job, and I have been coming here for a long time and have never had a bad thing to say until my encounter with him.

I had the plaice n chips. The fish was nice but the batter was way too greasy and this destroyed the whole taste. And the chips were not nice at all. The only positive thing was that the ladies who work there were all super nice and worked extremely hard to serve this high number of customers.

I got cod fish and chips here and it was really good. I would recommend going here if you want the real deal “fish and chips”! The pricing ended up being about $24, but I think it was worth it.
