Golden Star Chinese Takeaway in Harrogate

Food was an hour late with items missing plus one had human hair mixed into the sauce and it just wasn't one hair either,spoke to them and they where not bothered just told us to go through deliveroo will definitely will not be going there again

My food didn’t come, I called them up and said it was on there way. 2hrs later still nothing and the put it as delivered. Still charged me the money. Never ordering from them again

Shocking experience with this restaurant. Ordered food and not delivered. Tried to call the restaurant but they had closed. No contact from the restaurant themselves yet they accepted the order. They have our contact details so could have easily got in touch to say we are busy or there will be a delay but nothing. After waiting eventually went to bed.

Food delivery was very late, I waited over an hour. Food arrived cold and inedible. Phoned the restaurant to let them know, they weren’t helpful, suggested they thought the food should be hot (IT WASN’T) basically acused me of lying, wouldn’t refund. Do not recommend. Awful service.

Can someone please tell me what this is??? Its was all in our beef chow mein very grainy like soil, so off putting it all went in the bin

This restaurant doesn’t deserve even one star. I ordered a meal and they said it would be delivered within 30 minutes, after another hour and a half the app said it had been delivered. Whilst we hadn’t received any food, throughout the ordeal I phoned the restaurant at least three times and got sent to voicemail for all of them. After four days still no refund. Do not buy from this restaurant.

From the outside, to be honest I didn't think this would be good... Counter staff protected by a perspex screen? Not a great image - didn't think that would be necessary in Harrogate. However, I had a chicken chow mein which was genuinely very good. Very pleasantly surprised.....

So others can be warned, the quality of the food was awful. We ordered duck pancakes which were dry and falling apart, beef chow mein which was stodgy and sesame chicken that was ok but had better. I wouldn’t recommend wasting your money as there are much better takeaways in Harrogate.

That was by far one of the Worst Chinese i have had. Duck spring rolls were slimy and the chicken tasted like it had been boiled first to take out all the flavor. it arrived within 15 mins and we are a 5 min drive so thats always a bad sign. Don't go here I wont again.

Used Golden Star for years. Ordered a chicken omelette. Arrived home to find there was raw egg in the carton, potential food poisoning. Called to ask for a replacement meal to be delivered and they wanted me to pay the £2 difference, for a different dish. I obviously did not want the same meal after seeing it in it’s raw state. They refused so I had to drive back out of principle, to return the dish and get a refund. Extremely poor management!!!

Nice enough, but just updated their menu (November 2021) and increased prices and cook some dishes differently now which I don't like as much 😔 so will try out some other places.

Really annoying, yet another take away that was late. Originally when ordering through Deliveroo it said 25-30 min delivery time, as soon as hit order it jumped to 45 min and then when reached the 55 min time frame when I phoned to check the progress .... answer is that it will be at least other 10 min before its sent out blaming deliveroo and lack of drivers. Order eventually arrived 75 min after placing order it arrived Maybe don't over commit yourself by being on multiple delivery apps and using only your own drivers!!! Food was mostly fine.

Ordered meal for 4 people through Just Eat at 1930 and got confirmation email at 1931 with delivery time of 2020 to 2040. Food arrived at 2055 but when we unpacked it we saw that we had been given an egg fried rice instead of boiled rice. I phoned at 2058 and was told that boiled rice would be sent out. It's now 2125 and it hasn't arrived. The rest of the meal has gone cold. Very disappointing.

Ordered this evening. Chips and prawn crackers were from last night at least ..if not older. Beef curry was 100% tasteless. Clearly watered-down curry sauce, with very poor quality beef. This was not a cheap takeway either.

DO NOT order here ! Chips and rolls where cooked twice very hard, burnt and full of oil. The curry is the cheapest powder form they could possibly buy and its left us feeling ill. This place used to be ok im guessing they have changed hands because the quality has gone down hill to say the least. Shows how much they value customers allowing this to leave the the kitchen, disgrace.

Currently been waiting over an hour for my food to arrive, Said it would arrive at 25 past 10.. Tried calling 5 times, even had deliveroo ring and had no answer, Can someone please explain to me why my food hasn't arrived yet the order was accepted by yourselves?!?!?

Order was 40 mins late, despite acctually making the order 2 hour's before to arrive at a certain time and when arrived we haven't even got everything we ordered. No one would answer the phone when I was ringing to find out where the order was or now when I'm ringing to find out where our missing stuff is. Would be fine if I hadn't already paid for this through just eat!!!

Good portions and very tasty, but some dishes are "packed out" with extra and sometimes odd veg additions ! Like sliced tomatoes in Red Thai Curry !

We always love the food from here but please could you tell your delivery driver too have abit more respect? hammered on my door 3 times in the space of a minute scaring the life out of me, waking my mother, and a 2 year old child up! Apart from that food is lovely as per usual! X

Avoid this Chinese take away at all costs, the food is not worth the hassle. I understand that this is a Chinese take away but the staff on the telephone struggled with basic English. The staff are dishonest and the website is a scam, according to a member of staff the website isn’t linked to them. I found this very strange and hard to believe. They don’t have a clue where they deliver to and the website is not accurate they make the price up as they go along. Will take my custom elsewhere.

I ordered online and was told the minimum order was £15 for delivery but still had to pay £2 for the privaledge. Order confirmed for 45 mins time. I immediately got a text to say they needed 10 mins more so I expected it 55 mins later. An hour later I called to check it was coming as my doorbell is faulty. The staff told me they didn't have an order for me. Eventually they found it and told me it would be here in 10 mins. It arrived 45 minutes later. It was hot but it was bland and the prawns tasted strange so ended up not eating it. No refund offered. Really disappointed

We have never had such a bad meal/take away. The beef was inedible, tough as leather, chewy and fatty! The chips had obviously been cooked previously and were just hard, cold and again inedible. The veg was raw and the sides just awful. We will never use this takeaway again. Honestly the worst food we have ever tasted!

We used to use this Chinese Takeaway but have been let down on the last couple of occasions so now gone elsewhere. We had problems placing the order and then received a call half an hour after the order had been placed to check the order again (it was only for two people!) Slow delivery and the food was not hot when it arrived. Not sure if perhaps there has been a change of management.

Ordered through just eat, was told it would take up to 1 hours as it was busy. After 90 minutes I called and asked where my food was. I was told it would would be with me in 10 minutes and assured me it would be hot. The food arrived stone cold, it must have been out for delivery for at least 30 minutes. Called to complain and was told they were busy, offered 20% off my next order. Which isn’t good enough. Will not be ordering from here again.

The food was ok nothing special. A little over priced to say they don't include rice or chips with the mains, I thought I would try the tempura king prawns it's meant to be a light thin coating if batter. They couldn't get more batter on them if they tried and why did they serve it with seafood sauce I don't know, how's seafood sauce Chinese.

Can not describe how amazing Golden star Chinese is! It is my Go to Chinese and I wouldn’t go to any other! Would recommend to the highest level! Mouth wateringly tasty! 😂

The meat is not fresh at all and it taste horible ! Probably meat is very old and the colour is not normal as well! Horible experience! I waste £15 for old food! I should report to CQC!

shouldn’t accept order on just eat pricing and then try to call and charge extra delivery - only to then eventually deliver an hour late. numbers blocked so unable to call and check why they had called or on status. awful experience - landed up cooking our own meal.

Just come across this takeaway on Bower street and really impressed by the speedy service, quality and value.

Got a chicken chow mein ealery Saturday evening (had eaten nothing else that day) woke up round 6am the following morning to bad crap and sickness! And spent the following day and half being sick! I only wish I had some of the food left to send off as I'm 100% sure it was down to the food. I only come here for convenience but after loosing 3 days of pay, and spend a good half of that in pain, its safe to say I won't be returning!

A very good takeaway. Food is prepared quickly and is hot and tasty. They will omit MSG if requested. The only downside is that they only accept cash.

Food was 20 minutes after estimated time and also stated it had been delivered on the app. Had to ring shop.....who just said order will be there soon. Appreciate Saturday night is busy, but poor service.

Food was OK, delivery was 90 mins late and when I rang after 30 mins delay to question was told it had just left. Rang back 30 mins later and apparently they’d got mixed up with the addresses... Clearly not true.

We have been a loyal customer for many years and they never disappoint.

Once you order they then add on an extra £2:00 charge that you need to pay cash at your door. This needs to be advertised before you place your order and until then we won’t be using this take away again.

Choose resturant due to cheap delivery then once order had been placed I recieved a phone call to say delivery was and extra £2! Then they forgot my prawn crackers!! Food was nice, not amazing but services and extra charge spoilt meal.

Very disappointed. Ordered vegetable spring rolls, received ones with meat in! Partner also thought he found fish in them. As a vegetarian I’ve now lost trust in this chinese! Sweet and sour sauce was watery and the pot only half full. We have Chinese’s that are much closer but ordered from here as they do tasty salt and pepper chips. Won’t be back!

After ordering and paying the additional 1.50 delivery, we immediately received a very abrupt phone call towing us we had to pay a further 2 pounds to the driver or our order would be cancelled. The driver approached the house and we were greeted by him just shouting 2 pounds, 2 pounds! Very odd and rude so won’t ever use this business again

The food was pretty cold when it arrived and the chips I ordered were chewy. the food turned up very early, I was in Starbeck when I ordered it and as soon as I placed my order I set off home. I live in Harrogate and I was driving back at 10:30pm (ish) so there was no traffic and the food got there a minute after I got back when it was meant to be delivered in 40 minutes it took 10 minutes instead. the food was all pretty tasteless apart from the curry sauce that was really good!

ordered this very close to closing time and it was all great Best chips we’ve had in ages Free spring rolls were great but the crispy fried duck was the best. Really really good.

we pre ordered our food an hour ahead , and it arrived 45 minutes after that time. on calling the restaurant the lady that answered was unapologetic, she explained why it was late , but seemed unfazed. sat down to tea at 10pm in the end . shame , food was tasty.

First time using this restaurant as our usual place was closed for Chinese New Year. i actually think the food is better here than at our usual place! Will definately be back.

Ordered at 7.45 delivered at 9,50. Every time we order from here recently the place adds extra time for delivery on 2/3 times. It’s a complete joke. Used golden star for over 5 years but the whole thing seems to be a mess at mo. Sort it out!!!!!!!! I won’t be using them again and I’ll be telling everyone else not to.

This place came highly recommended by good friends of ours. So we thought we'd give it a try. My husband and I were not disappointed. We ordered Sweet & Sour Chicken,Thai Pattaya Beef, Thai Hot Chicken Wings and Duck Fried Rice which was awesome! We will definitely be back.

We ordered the egg fried rice, black pepper King prawn and Cantonese style sweet and sour chicken. Food was delicious with generous helpings of vegetables. Sweet and sour chicken had a thin batter with proper breast meat. Delivery was prompt and the food arrived piping hot.

The regular sweet n sour special very disappointing the chicken wasn't cooked enough and the batter seemed soggy, the Egg fried rice was the best part with the two prawns that I managed to find in the middle of my food. sweet n sour source quite a lot runner than usual, I will order from you again but will look at the menu for a different dish next time,

Certainly well above average for a takeaway. Doesn't taste too processed - it actually looks & tastes pretty fresh. Restaurants aside, this is the best Chinese I've come across in a long time. Will be ordering again soon. Good price, really friendly delivery guy & everything my partner and I ordered was decent-to-lovely...

the food was all very nice but, the Thai Sweet and Sour Dish was so chili hot that I couldn't eat it all, the rice was very nice, Chocolate Fudge Cake and Cream the best. Yes I would order from them again

Food was nice but the service and delivery was so shocking I would never order again from here, places further away would have delivered quicker and if not would have at least given a more accurate delivery time or called to explain it was delayed... that's what you give your personal number for isn't it!? Really appalled and disappointed

Barbecue ribs weren't Barbequed and were tiny little bones compared to normal Ribs shop bought or takeaway, doubt I will order from here again.
