Golden Sands in Isle of Wight

To be honest, there isn't a great deal of choice for takeaway fish & chips on Ventnor seafront so when I saw the 4.5 star feedback rating for Golden Sands, I trusted that this must be good - how wrong was I? The member of staff was lovely and very chatty, and when she asked me to come back in 15 minutes as 'we are so busy', I didn't think twice. However, I did not think that the 15 minutes would be needed to cook horrible FROZEN fish and OVEN chips. I'm really no snob when it comes to food but when I'm being asked to pay over £13.00 for the pleasure of this rubbish, I had to write this review to help other people. One recommendation - which i will also write a review for is Ocean View Fish & Chips. Admittedly not on the seafront, but absolutely 1000% better and a lot cheaper, if you can find your way up the winding streets of lovely Ventnor!

What an amazing place, two happy women greeting us at the counter. Both with smiles 😊 which makes a refreshing change. The food was cooked to order, good quality and tasted lovely. We even had ice cream which made my son's happy. A great end of the evening. Five out of five for service. We advised one of the servers to look up Jeremy Clarkson / Clarkson Farm. To help with information on the Hawkstone lager they are serving 😊👍

All around delicious ice cream and unusually tasty vegan ice cream options! Generous portions and friendly service, the perfect treat for our beach evening!

Saw this action the red funnel IOW magazine as a red funnel recommendation. Well absolutely awful, frozen chips and frozen fish - tiny portions (not that I mined as it was awful but it cost £14 for cod and chips). On the beach was expecting so much more. What a waste of my hard earned cash that I was splashing on a holiday treat.

Krazy crew were fabulous!!! Loved the entertainment they were brilliant with the kids, absolutely great food love it every night!

If you want a good Fish and Chips in Ventor, this is the place to go. Got five portions for the fam today with some quality mushy peas to go with them. Really good cod. Chips cooked well. Would defo go again

A small place and yet very clearly defined to comply with the Covid rules. The lovely young ladies were brilliant at ensuring everyone understood and followed the guidelines. The were very welcoming and helpful. We only needed a light snack so shared a lunch which was super, fresh & tasty. Definitely recommended.

We decided to go to a seaside town for ice-cream after a visit to The Isle of Wight Pearl. This place is lovely and the staff were amazing the lady who served us was great and so friendly. We both had icecream milkshakes that were delicious. Highly recommend this place for ice cream and milkshakes!!!

This was our refuge on a cold, wet and windy morning. We were greeted very cheerfully by the staff member there and well looked after. The vegetarian breakfasts were tasty, filling and hot and delivered promptly. All measures were taken to keep customers and staff safe. We enjoyed the view of the incoming waves from the warmth of the restaurant. I'd go back again!

We are on a short break to the Isle of Wight from Warwickshire and are staying at Bembridge. We had a drive around the coast and ended up wanting to stop for Lunch in Ventnor. At first it looked like it just sold Ice Cream but when we saw the board we realised there was so much more. We had really nice fresh food and the waitress/server was really friendly and polite making it a really nice experience. We sat outside between the showers and were on the seafront. It was lovely :)

The best fish and chips ever. Considering the situation at the moment with covid the service was excellent and the price is very reasonable. The food was beautifully cooked and tasted wonderful. It was really hot and crunchy, just how i like it. Have now been several times and we'll definitely go again.

We absolutely love golden sands Ventnor, hadn’t been for while due to this year but as ever yesterday fantastic freshly served food , Really delicious meals, & the service by two girls brilliant . Can’t recommend this place more & overlooking sea , perfect !!! Thank you

Absolutely brilliant fish and chips on offer here. Simple and easy to order from. Initially it only looks like they sell ice cream but after asking others where they had bought theirs from it came highly recommended. Food is made fresh to order but only takes 5 minutes to wait but they give you a pager so you can relax and soak up some rays whilst waiting on the beach. Good portion size not too small not too big and the mushy peas were incredible. Staff are so friendly and smile every time you walk past!! Ice cream range is amazing as well would recommend funky banana. So good we returned the next day.

My partner and I bought scampi and chips from here on Friday. Food was lovely and had great portion sizes. Had some donuts afterwards which were made fresh - so delicious! The staff were so accommodating they really make you feel at ease. Highly recommend and will be returning.

We picked up fish and chips and really disappointed. Both the fish and the chips were ever so dry - unsure if they had seen the fryer. And we felt expensive for what we got. Service was great, but one can’t eat that!

Have just spent 2 weeks on holiday as part of a large family group (17) and visited Golden Sands every day we had a beach day which was a lot due to the amazing weather. The girls serving us could not have been more friendly and helpful and in spite of the long hours in the tremendous heat they maintained a happy disposition throughout, they made each trip a pleasure. Food was good and with generous portions and reasonably priced. Ask for a Schmoo milkshake - they’re to die for!

We found this cafe on the esplanade and we were grateful to find it open longer than the hours advertised. We both had chocolate fudge brownie ice cream and it was delicious! The server was also friendly and helpful.

Girls serving are so friendly - always made of fuss of my daughter. Fantastic range of ice cream - and the hot food is excellent too.

We had a take-away for eight people from here. Lovely girls serving there. I asked if the chips were fresh or frozen ? I was told they were "chilled" ! Nevertheless we ordered the meal. Plenty of chips, in fact far too much. It's a shame they weren't very good. In fact most were left. The other aspects of the meal were fine. Later on, we called back there and ordered a selection of ice creams which were enjoyed.

Went here on holiday last year and loved the Americana breakfast. Unfortunately, it was takeaway only this year due to Covid, so we got breakfast and sat on the seafront. Still amazing and service was fantastic.

We decided to visit after seeing the reviews on trip advisor and were very pleased we did. The girl serving was very friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious and huge portions. There was plenty of choice on the menu. We'd go again and would definitely recommend a visit.

Went in with my mum and each had toasted teacake and hot chocolate as it was a wet, cold day. The young girl that served us was very polite, and helpful. She made us feel so welcome. The teacake and drink was lovely and hot. She asked if everything was ok and asked if we wanted anything else. They serve meals as well as sandwiches/paninis, especially ice cream. Will definitely come again

We called into Golden Sands on Friday lunchtime and had fish and chips. The young lady serving was so friendly and smiling. Meal was lovely and we topped it off with one of their delicious ice creams as we left. We will be back!

Lovely clean cafe, pleasant helpful staff, wonderful view. Coffee and tea cakes very nice and prices very reasonable.

Called in this cafe just for an ice cream, there were some free tables and we were able to sit in the shade whilst eating them.A lovely welcome from the attendant, probably the best we have had while staying on the IOWShe was the same with all her customers,We wish we had been in before to this cafe as it had a real nice feel. Met friends for an evening meal at this delightful cafe situated directly on the seafront overlooking the sea. I had the fish and chips, cod was crispy, lovely chips with tartare sauce and mushy peas. Food was freshly cooked to order and piping hot. Then a Belgium waffle, fruit, ice cream and warm chocolate sauce - yummy! The service was first class, attentive and friendly. The menu also had a good choice of breakfasts and lunches, something for everyone. I can highly recommend this super cafe for location, service, quality and value, will definitely be retuning.

Breakfast was what was needed and at a good price. The setting is lovely overlooking ventnor beach and the service second to non .

We were looking to end our weekend with Fish and Chips by the sea. Plus a location with a licence so we could enjoy a glass of wine too. We got lucky and found this gem. We only regret asking the lady's name as we could mention her properly. She even remebered all but one of their 23 ice cream flavours. I think it was the Dog ice cream. I may try it next time for the Glucosamine !

Delicious fish and chips plus veggie options where needed. Super views of the sea and a lovely atmosphere too. The most dedicated and friendly staff made the experience memorable. Our little dog was welcome to sit quietly under the table on his lead. We will be back!

Great food at ok' prices i totally recommend this place, friendly atmosphere, has got plenty of seats for familys and a wide selection of foods, the open times are also amazing with 9am to 7pm every day of the week. 👍

2 breakfasts for £12 to include tea/coffee . All of it was freshly cooked , generous portions and served by a happy and friendly staff . We will be coming back . Their fish and chips is delicious too .

Great service amazing views prices affordable a real gem. May not be the Ritz but it is the friendliest place and my fish finger sandwich was just awesome. Wife had under the sea burger which she loved. Also do amazing range of food pancakes and ice cream.

Our hotel didn’t do breakfast so we needed to find a restaurant that did and so lucky to find this one on Ventnor Esplanade. We had three breakfasts there and each one was fantastic, very tasty, plentiful and all with hot plates which is a real boon. Prices extremely reasonable and very good value, just over £10 for a mini and a large breakfast, including drinks!!

Absolutely lovely staff who are happy to help with anything from recommendations for Ice Cream Flavours to Place some to go. Great Ice Cream and a wide selection of food and snacks too. A must.

Had a lovely time here as we went looking for an ice cream and came out having finished the ice cream and having mapped out our entire experience on the Isle of Wight through two friendly staff. The ice cream range was absolutely amazing and they were very sensitive with dietary requirements.

The cheeseburger was amazing. Nice and clean environment. Next to the sea side. You actually can eat and see the sea view if you seat outside. Loved it...

We went twice - with 2 different waitresses - both delightful friendly and efficient. The food was lovely....give the posh-looking italian up the road a miss and go to the Golden Sands instead!

Visited golden sands and looked bright and colourful from the outside. Brilliant menu with good quality food. Everbody was pleased with the food. The service was excellent. Very pleased with the whole experience.

We love going to the Golden Sands Cafe whenever we are in Ventnor. Its always very clean and the staff make you feel so welcome. All the food is freshly cooked, the fish and chips are the best we have had anywhere. We recommend everybody we meet and they are always delighted.

We enjoyed a lovely cooked breakfast here on the last day of our holiday. The food was very good, served hot and quickly and very well priced. The staff were very polite & friendly.

Scoured Ventnor to find an unusual craving - just wanted a simple fishcake - Golden Sands delivered; not only a hot, crispy, flavoursome fishcake (fresh lemon slice and tartare sauce included) but received some of the best customer service on the Island - well done!

We stopped here on a very hot day as it’s right on the seafront at Ventnor. Lovely menu choices and we had four delicious freshly cooked meals. Staff very friendly and portions very generous. We would definitely visit again.

Stopped at Golden Sands to grab an ice cream. This is a classic beachside cafe serving usual drinks and snacks. They also have a large selection of ice creams by the scoop. Loved the salted caramel

This is a lovely little cafe where the staff could not be more accommodating. We had lunch. There were milkshakes with 22 flavours to choose from! Used paper straws so enviromentally aware. We had to wait a short time for our food as cooked to order but the time was not in the least excessive. I had crab and lobster burger which I throughly enjoyed together with morello cherry milkshake. All consumed whilst over looking the seafront, lovely especially as the sun was shining.

Visited on a sunday in search of chips !! not disappointed!! we had 5 lovely meals fish/scampi/chilli/wrap very friendly place exclellent staff and food served really quickly , we could have stayed all day thank you

We stopped off here for an early dinner as it closed round 5ish. I had the fish n chips and my wife had a chicken wrap with cheese chips. Very nice fresh food sitting out the front, looking out over the beach. They also done a lot of different ice creams too. The woman who served us was very friendly.

Stopped for a of coffee each and toasted tea cakes while walking. Ended up having two of each as, Young lady who served was amazing bubble friendly and extremely officiant, order quick to arrived, recommend highly

We, the family, 2 adults and 2 kids, had a super weeks holiday on the IOW.

Went to this place for an excellent hearty hot lovely breakfast before leaving Ventnor. Cafe even opened up early for us by an hour, to accommodate...you don't get that these days! Nothing too much trouble, delightful hospitable staff, spotlessly clean and great food and drinks! An absolute must wherever you are on island. Good for people with additional needs too!

We stumbled across golden sands on our recent visit to Ventnor and the ice cream was absolutely lovely, with so many flavours to choose from!.

Extremely pleasant staff who provided my wife and me with a plate of very tasty non greasy fish and chips. The home made Tatar Sauce was exceptional. We shall go again next week I think!

Looking for food on a bank holiday. Friendly helpful staff and freshly cooked fish and chips, mugs of tea what not to like? Other foods being served looked good too, like pancakes and panini's.

If you're looking for a good breakfast and a view at a great price this won't disappoint. Right on the seafront at Ventnor there is inside and outside seating. Good coffee and a huge range of isle of Wight icecream with generous portions, we visit often. The staff are efficient, polite and friendly. I highly recommend it. Also good for lunch and fish and chips.

Really impressed with the quality and amount of food that this small cafe produced. All of fantastic quality and really well priced. A great spot to sit and watch the world go by. Will definitely be going again.

I was more than happy to find this place. I ordered full english breakfast and it tasted great. Delicious coffee as well. I think that also price was reasonable compared to other places. My husband tried ice cream the other time and he was satisfied too. I´ll tell also my friends to try it.

Our last day on the Island and we found this little gem for breakfast. Super friendly and great value for breakfast. How anyone can rate it 1 star is beyond me at these prices?

Just had 2 breakfasts for £11 one of which was veggie. Food was hot, freshly cooked & very tasty. Best breakfast we have had in a long time. Very nice young lady serving. Great value as tea & toast were included all whilst watching the waves pound the beach.

This is a wonderful seafront cafe, serving very reasonable food and drink. The location is perfect, only a few steps to the sea. The staff are fantastic, nothing is too much trouble and they are so helpful and friendly.

Perfect place to eat and relax. Great staff and wonderful food. Ice creams were well priced and very tasty. Even watched the Waverly go by.

We had a wonderful breakfast and were served by Phoebe who is a real credit to the place she is a really bubbly, smiley girl and nothing is too much trouble she gives excellent customer service and would be a reason to go back as well as the excellent food.

Lovely little restaurant that I found using trip advisor on the hunt for good fish and chips. Was slightly on the expensive side for what it was seeing as no table service or amenities and had to walk down to the public toilets when my daughter needed to use them but the food was good quality and tasty and the whole family finishes their food. The crab cakes where particularly good and the chef was more then happy to adjust the menu so I could have chips and tarter sauce with my crab cakes rather then salad and chilli sauce. And the young lady behind the toll was a delight and so friendly with the children

This is a lovely beachside cafe with friendly, attentive staff. We ordered two hot meals and 3 baguettes and all were freshly prepared and arrived quickly. Great value for money too.

Visited many times over our holiday. Can highly recommend the mini breakfast, great value for money. Staff are always really friendly and accommodating. Would definitely recommend, well worth the visit.

We came to the ventnor carnival and fish and chips at golden sands gave us a perfect end to a great day. We got served by two girls, one with blondish hair and another with reddy brown hair. They were so friendly and happy and definitely gave service with a smile. Very happy! :)

Visited late on one evening. Found this place via the app. It was busy and they had sold out of quite a few bits but that shows how popular it is. We had burgers and hot dogs, portions were great, taste was great. Good little cafe. Popular with the locals which is always a good sign.

My husband and I visited yesterday for lunch (the hottest day of the year!!) for the first time - although we are Islanders, we live in Ryde, so don't come over to Ventnor often, and hadn't previously known about this lovely little beachside gem of a café. We were served by Dominic, who was super-friendly and welcoming as well as really efficient - it was a hot day and there was a steady stream of customers, but he effortlessly kept ahead of them without even losing his smile for a second! We had fish and chips with a side of yummy onion rings, and I can honestly say that it really was gorgeous, and by far the best I have had in ages. Everything was cooked to order, and arrived at our table piping hot and attractively presented. The portions were very generous, and the food was beautifully cooked - the chips were just golden enough, crisp and not at all greasy, and the fish was just divine, with golden, really crispy crunchy batter hiding perfectly-cooked cod, pearly white and moist....my only sadness was that because I am greedy and ate it all, I had no room left for one of the mny delicious flavours of ice cream which I had promised myself as a treat pudding...next time I intend to show a bit of restraint so I can put that right! I can't recommend Golden Sands highly enough, as it is a perfect little seaside treasure...it suits Ventnor's traditional easygoing, family vibe, providing great food and drink at reasonable prices, and with friendliness and genuine enthusiasm. You can sit inside or out, and the café is clean and fresh with a lovely beach-y theme, and free WiFi too, which was a real surprise! We met Kyle, the owner/chef, and he too was so friendly and customer-focused...as well as being a great cook, too....he deserves to make a great success of this lovely little business. Thank you guys, we will definitely be back now that we know about you, and I am already building my fantasy ice cream!

We came here, following TripAdvisor reviews, for an early evening fish and chip supper. We had a nice meal, decent portion, not expensive and well cooked. Service was very friendly, prompt and helpful. Will probably visit again before we leave the island.

A lovely and inexpensive place to eat made all the more charming because it’s graced with the most cheerful and gracious hostess.

A great location right on the front with a cool breeze. Good menu and a quicker, lighter alternative to the big pub at the end. Absolutely charming staff, who serve with a cheery and polite manner. Guaranteed to lift your spirits.

Lovely customer service and great food and loction just on the beach with amazing drinks only down bit for me was the ketchup wasn't nice tested watery but was good overall

2nd visit tonight found the food to be lovely and the staff extremely friendly alĺ in all a gem of a place to eat would definitely recommend to anyone on holiday or living close by.

A great little cafe and the friendliest staff ever. Just across from the beach in Ventnor so great for an ice cream (had a couple) or a drink and we ate there for two breakfasts. The chef/owner is the nicest guy and the food was lovely, plenty of it, although he did treat us with extras but lovely clean tasting food and the cafe is spotless. Staff are great and very welcoming, only regret, we didn’t get to try the home made batter on the cod & chips, but just another excuse to go back again and we will. Only a small place but don’t over look them, highly recommend and fully deserving of their trip advisor 5 bubble rating.

What's better than fish and chips by the sea? This small but friendly café is situated on the sea front. There are a few tables outside as well as inside with fantastic views over the beach and the English Channel. Very friendly staff with prompt service. Varied menu and very reasonably priced and living in a seaside resort I know how expensive they can be!

This is a small cafe across the road from the beach. The prices are average, the food superb, and the staff are excellent. If you are in Ventnor, I'd recommend a visit to this cafe.

A simple beach cafe. Nothing fancy but very welcoming and reasonable quality. Good for a cup of tea or a snack.
