Golden Phoenix Chinese takeway in South Hams

Arrived barely warm, there was chunks of stale fried bread in with chips, spare ribs dry and chewy. Crispy seaweed was soggy, salt chilli chicken dry and chewy. Spring roll wash mushy. Pork balls and egg fried rice was OK.

Ordered at 8.20pm, asked for an update at 9pm, told it would be 10pm onwards that food would arrive. Be prepared for a 2 hour waiting time if you want a delivery.

Terrible food. Reminded me of school dinners from the 1970s. Plus, they don't take cards.

both times ive ordered from this place ive been under portioned, first time didnt moan as instead of 8 it was 7, but the time im almost missing half a portion i had ordered, the basic defence was if its in a big bag its 8 and a small its 4.. then goes on to say maybe the other person you are with ate them... trying to cause domestics 🤣🤣 and to make it worse the first time i ordered from this place thought wow a decent chinese quick delivery yeah spot on, foods been awful tonight, tastes rushed, will not be ordering again, just the audacity to say someone else ate them without you knowing 😅

last two times I went there I had to wait 15 minutes for my food after they said it would be ready. Great food and the person at the till was very nice

Ordered food, but food delivered to someone else. Charged £7 for that delivery, I Was offered by the driver to collect the food from the wrong address, the person at the other address was called and already started eating my order. I was then told they could collect that food🤮 from that person half eaten. Very unhelpful and would not recommend.

Had a delivery 18th December 22 Order for £83.50 plus £7 delivery. Her for a holiday. One wrong order for vegetarian,had to wait 45 minutes for replacement. Duck disappointing only 3 pieces of Duck. Quite disappointing overall.

Been using this local takeaway for years, it used to be hit and miss, now it's just really poor food and stingy as hell (under the new management end of 2022). £2 for the tiniest bag of crackers which they used to give for free, no main dishes under £7, bone dry (everything) chips and no proper seasoning etc... Not pleasant - don't think I'll be returning my long term custom. Regards

Food was good but review is based on value for money. Purchased from here 2 weeks ago and price was £17.80. Purchased exactly the same 2 weeks later and the price had gone up by £6.15. Understand prices do increase but this is an increase of nearly 42%. Not only did the price go up but the quantity went down by a considerable amount as well. The trays were the same size but they were only half filled. It looked like I had ordered half portions. Won't be using this takeaway again.

Ordered on the website and after id paid it told me it would be delivered 2 hours later, luckily it came in 1 hours time. Chips was cold, hard, and soggy. Not to mention I ordered a large portion and what I received could have only just scraped a regular. Chow Mein may aswell have came out of the fridge. The chicken curry tasted of absolutely nothing, no spice to it whatsoever yet absolutely no flavor. Will not be eating from here again as now both me and partner have been on loo all evening, we’re working on trying to have a refund but so far have been told they don’t offer refunds.

Unfortunately, the food was far too salty, which ruined the taste.

Hit and miss!! Bad management, too many ways to order and confusing system including service charge via website order for no reason. Also no point having a "loyalty card" if it only works when paid in cash at the premises, as not everyone can do that. The veggie dishes have been nice generally (good choice of tofu which is hard to come by locally), the meat dishes not so nice! Have spent a lot of money here over the years, will still support, but only on odd occasions now.

Came on a camping holiday with friends and stayed on broadleigh farm, we decided to order a Chinese on the last night. I have to say, it was one of the best Chinese takeaways that I have ever had! The lemon chicken was literally to die for! So yummy!

AMAZING DELIVERY DRIVER This is the only resteraunt that delivers to me at all! (Trust me, I’ve checked) the contact numbers for the restraint come up as “invalid” on my phone so I can’t call them, I missed the driver but the guy got out and searched the park in the dark to find me, it was a young guy, he definitely deserved the tip, so many others would not have cared and left. The resteraunt is very lucky to have him. Chicken balls also good

Got to be worst customer service ever and foods really nothing special. have tried on numerous accounts but something is always wrong, 2 hours late or missing. Really ongoing bad service and nowhere near worth the cost. Not even worth bothering to try again and will definitely not be ordering from them again.

Absolutely disgusting meal tonight. They insisted on us going to the shop to get a replacement, even with kids in bed. We already paid a delivery charge. We will NEVER use this takeaway again. We will stick with the Good food House, where we are never disappointed.

Ordered from here because our regular Chinese takeaway had no drivers. I hate leaving a bad review, unless it's really necessary. This was necessary... we were extremely hungry and thought we'd treat ourselves to a chinese meal. Will never order from here again. The chow mein looked like spaghetti with gravy. Very bland. The little meat that was there was tasteless, unchewable, fatty and literally unedible.The other ordered that came with it was just as bland and tasteless. I'd forgotten I ordered from here a year ago. They charged me for cans of pop and didn't bring them out. Never got the money back. It's a lot of money for food to be thrown straight in the bin. The 1 star is for the food being hot, that's all ♡

We were staying at Woodlands theme park, ordered food was told it would take one hour and a half. Had phone call when on way and met at gate with no issues. Food was lovely and we all agreed best we had for ages.

3 stars because I ordered chilli oil with my Chinese food and they basically put hot sauce in cooking oil. It was absolutely disgraceful. The Chinese food was amazing and it just took the cherry off top. I could tell they had none but wanted to charge me so they just figured out a quick way to make it

Fantastic food, worth the extra for delivery to where I live and also worth the drive to collect.

Ordered from Golden Phoenix last night. Cannot comment on delivery as we collected. Food was superb - portion sizes are generous and really delicious. Will use again - thank you!

Really poor lazy service canceled my delivery request 3 times in a week no customer care couldn’t even get a answer on there phone will not be using them ever again very disappointed.

Over the years this business has changed hands alot but each time it has had its ups and downs good food and bad. Over all really its nice food from pheonix there chilli chips are unique there my personal favourite with some bbq ribs, staff have always been polite and helpful. When busy wait times can be a problem for delivery so allow time for that most evenings especially weekends.

Best Chinese I've ever had !!! Miles better than any other local takeaway. So pleased, will be our go to every time now.

Very tasty best Chinese I’ve had in a while, had a variety of dishes all very good.

Great food but terrible service. I preordered from the golden Phoenix at 4:50pm when they open at 5pm. When placing the order it said it would be delivered at 6pm. 15 minutes later the confirmation email said it would be delivered at 6:30pm. When 6:30pm came our food had still not been delivered. I gave it 5 minutes and tried calling. Once I got through I was told they were just doing our order as they’d had a wave of orders through, I reiterated that we had pre-ordered and asked how much longer it would take. At this point the phone started cutting out. I tried to call back about 40 times and the call wouldn’t go through. So I went through Just Eat and revived a text to say it would be delivered at 7:15pm, it was still 5 minutes late. Personally I think waiting over two hours after opening for something that was preordered is unacceptable. There was nothing extra like prawn crackers or any refund offered. Will not be ordering from them again.

By in large the best Chinese in Totnes not just Bridgetown, it's had some bad reviews in the past and admitedly hadn't ordered from here for a long time but they have really stepped it up great portions and really nice food too. Keep it up!

Bonus was the quick delivery. Wasn't expecting the delivery charge to be so high but haven't ordered in a while. Food was good but my order was missing an item. Can't get money back unless I get credit on food site...sucks but our bellies are full

Lovely takeaway delivered promptly to our motorhome within 30mins. It was just what the Mrs ordered. Salt and chilli KP and chicken satay were both top Nosh.

Great meal. Food was fabulous and a plenty. The place looks clean and the staff friendly.
