Had the best takeaway last night, every dish was fantastic. Well done to the chef that was brilliant. They've had their ups and downs but if they keep this up they're onto a winner

Struggling to understand previous reviews at The Golden Palace. We have just enjoyed an excellent meal, with great service and a good atmosphere. I'm not sure, but believe the business has changed hands recently and what a truly wonderful experience. Probably the best provincial meal we have ever had with attentive and professional service. This will be our 'go to' Chinese from now on. Superb!!!

We enjoyed our lunch here, the food was great and the service was prompt. Living nearby, we fancied a lunch somewhere new and we loved the food (beef curry, prawns and black bean aubergine).

It saddens me to submit any negative review, but this place failed to deliver on so many levels. I'd been here a long time ago when the table prep and service was professional, the ambience inviting, and food quite delicious Fast forward to now, and all was very dismal by comparison as well as poor value for money. Little attention to detail (ugly menu, no spoons provided, no water offered), zero ambience (poor lighting, constant takeaway phone within earshot, cliched Chinese music played too high), slow service (ignored for the most part), and very bland tasteless food (which also had little visual appeal). If things get so bad that a business fails to care about what it does, it should really get out of it and hand over the reins to someone who does ASAP. Very disappointing.

Took my family for the £22 per head buffet which was simply a restricted order what you like from the menu, and came with various strong warnings in the small print. Starter mixed platter was the best part and to be fair was tasty with some good flavours. The mains all tasted the same with no real individual flavourings which was a shame. We managed to demolish half the mains until full and then asked if we could take what was left home rather than waste it. We were told this is not allowed, we then pointed out how ridiculous this was. They then offered several takeaway containers for £5 so we could take what was left home, which was a joke considering the cost of the meal, drinks and the 11% service charge, we swiftly got the bill and awkwardly left. A few years ago my family and I stopped using this Chinese for takeaway and began using China Garden down the road. Nonetheless, when my friends suggested going for something different on a Saturday night, I felt eager to give this place another chance after 5 years or so. As we were sat looking at the menu, we discussed how we all used to use this takeaway many years ago, and all of us had stopped. The prices are quite high (for 3 of us, the total came to £150) and the quality of food is not very good. The meat is dry and tough. Chicken satay skewers, crispy chili beef, crispy chili chicken, Kung Pow chicken - these items added up to roughly £40 and was quite inedible. There was a lovely boy that served and another woman who I must admit was rather rude. A 10% service charge is added to the bill automatically so more polite service wouldn't go a miss. We all agreed at the end of the night that we are glad that we have all stopped using this restaurant for our takeaways, as the quality has unfortunately not improved.

We haven't visited the Golden Palace since before lockdown and we weren't disappointed with our visit on Sunday for our wedding anniversary. The food is freshly cooked to order. The starters and prawn crackers were delicious followed by the duck, the sauce was strangely thick and the cucumber had dried slightly though which is why I only gave 4 stars. The chilli beef could have been a little more crispy to my liking if I were to be fussy. The selection of mains were a good variety and very tasty. On the whole we had a wonderful dinner that was reasonably priced. Thank you for a lovely evening Golden Palace! We will be back!

Have used the Golden Palace for years, usually as a take away as the decor is pretty old style but the food is consistently good . I love crab with blackbean and chilli and as long as I give them a few days notice, they're happy to get the crab in and cook it for me.

Not impressed at all with the buffet. At £19-50 per adult for “ eat as much as you like “ it was far from that. The portions were very small and had to keep requesting food to be brought. Requested sweet and sour chicken balls only to be served 4 small balls between 3 adults. Decided we had enough of waiting for someone to bring some more of the buffet we decided to leave out of embarrassment . The only thing that arrived quickly was the bill which we reluctantly paid along with the ten percent service charge. One to definitely avoid in future .

We have eaten in the restaurant a couple of times but mostly use the take away service adjacent to the restaurant. We have never been disappointed. We are regular customers and have been using the Golden Lion for about 5 years.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We had 2 vegetarians and 2 meat eaters and all were very happy! Lots of variety and yummy tastes! One member of staff was a bit grumpy. But hey, we all have days like that.

We had an early dinner at The Golden Palace today and it was most enjoyable. The food was lovely and we were seated at a nice table, the decor is pleasant and the staff are professional and not over friendly and constantly bothering dinners. We’ve lived in the area for a few years but have never had the chance to dine here before so we were v impressed. Recommended for the lovely food and cosy atmosphere, we will be back.

Worst customer service I have ever encountered. We were seated straight away and handed a bowl of prawn crackers, I noticed a hair on them so asked them to be changed when they come back to take our drinks order. Only for them to take them away, put them on the side, remove the 2 the hair was laying across and give them back. Other than that, food was nice, but nothing other than ‘yeah’ every time we said thank you for our food. Been there 3 times and that is by far the worst. Won’t go again. If you are going, take a jacket too, it’s soo cold!

First impressions are good. A cosy, well fitted -out restaurant. However, every business needs to train its staff to be pleasant and accommodating to its paying customers - just to survive, let alone prosper. I thought the food was OK but the staff didn't have a clue.Food Hygiene Rating was only 2 in May 2019 and has been this low for sometime. No effort apparently has been made to improve hygiene standards. This in itself is a good reason to avoid the place. Completely unacceptable.

I have never been somewhere where I received such lousy service. This is the second time I have been to this restaurant, and both times the main waitress was rude, miserable and made me feel uncomfortable. We only went today as last time the food was good, and we were hoping the waitress was just having a bad day. Unfortunately not, it’s a shame your service brings down the chefs food. Went to the store today to order and was told, I had collected the free broccoli “two or three times”! I haven’t been to the store in about 4-6 months!! She then walked off and proceeded to talk to her colleague in her language. An older colleague then came and just sat at the front desk in silence. I walked out. I truly am not going to argue over £1, but THE BROCCOLI WAS NEVER GIVEN IN THE FIRST PLACE. It’s a real shame there isn’t 0 stars. Terrible customer service and food is average at best. Never again!!

Visited this restaurant last night with friends from the time we arrived the staff were very unfriendly and rude .The waitress stood at the table after a few minutes wanting our order we asked for a few minutes to decide her face and attitude was a picture my friend is a vegetarian and asked about fish on the menu and what it came with the waitress said one word fish we said what does it come with ie veg or rice maybe one word spring onions decided against this meal.After starters the waitress cleared the table my husband used a spoon which we think was for the main meal she realised this and through it back onto the table my husband asked for a clean spoon she completlely ignored him and walked away.Main meal 3of us had finished the waitress started to clear the table while my friend was still eating even attempting to take the food away she was still eating while reaching across her to clear the table.all this without so much of a smile and not a word spoken.The food was nice but the whole atmosphere and all the staff need to learn to smile and not be so rude and miserable this spoilt our evening cannot ever remember going to any restaurant EVER with such bad service and staff attitude.we will not be going again we would have got a better welcome and a smile at McDonald’s.

Our usual restaurant was closed so we ordered a takeaway from here. Waited 40 minutes so off to a bad start as they’d said twenty. Very surly staff in attendance on the collection desk. Out of four dishes, two were stone cold. Very greasy 1970”s style Chinese food. Can’t recommend it and certainly won’t go there again. Also, for the grand finale, about a fiver more expensive than our usual restaurant. You live and learn...

Fabulous meal and amazing service

Poor to average food, with particularly pitiful, shrivelled prawn toast. Duck was decent. Main courses looked like microwaved slop that was just heated for a few minutes and thrown out - never tasted pineapple so flavourless in all my life. Service was mixed. One woman was super cute and smiley, the other was an absolute miserably who audibly huffed at me when I asked for the bill. The kicker was that it was also pretty expensive. Wouldn't go back.

I went in there a few weeks ago quite early one evening with my girlfriend. The takeaway service was quite busy but the restaurant wasn't, there were several free tables. I asked a male waiter for a table for two and he huffed and pointed (he didn't take us) to our table. I sat down and my girlfriend went to the ladies loo. A female waiter came to the table the moment I sat down and asked for our drinks order. I didn't know what my girlfriend wanted but I ordered a beer. My beer arrived and before she could sit down my girlfriend was asked for her drink order. She asked for a few minutes to look at the menu before deciding. Clearly put out by this, the waitress went away. As if they were a tag team the male member of staff asked if we were ready to give our food order. I asked for 10 minutes to look at the menu. He took a few steps back and hovered in the background waiting and then right on cue his colleague returned to take the other half of the drinks order. At this point I suggested to my girlfriend that we leave to which she agreed and so I asked the female member if I could pay for my beer. She went off to get the bill and I could see the male waiter scowling at me. I asked him why we were being so pressurised and his reply was 'takeaway very busy, we don't have time for you tonight!' I could hardly believe my ears and then I couldn't believe my eyes as my bill arrived and I was being asked to pay over £8 for a bottle of beer! I protested and she brought the correct bill, £3.80. I held out a £5 note which she snatched and hurriedly went and got my change. She went to walk off and with no apology, thank you or goodbye I told her that we were unhappy to which she laughed out loud! After questioning whether she really was laughing at me I asked to see the manager to which her reply was that it was his night off! We left, absolutely disgusted with the way we had been treated.

We have rarely felt so unwelcome in a restaurant. The service was terrible. We felt they just wanted us out. We were in and out in less than half an hour which is a record. There was no excuse as it was early evening and only two other couples dining. The food came out with incredible speed so we can only assume it was microwaved and it was pretty much shoved on the table. The food was tasty but would never go there again. This was meant to be the end of our holiday, an unfortunate let down

Takeaway food ok Restaurant could do with updating friendly good service for a fair price

Our vegetable curry was delicious. Vegetables cooked just right. A little kess hot flavouring would make it a favourite.

Having been out for a long day my wife and I fancied a take away and popped into the Golden Palace.

Characterful restaurant. Classic Chinese food. Good range and portions. Friendly staff. Only points to note are that the toilets are in need of refurb and they are on the first floor.

Had a wedding anniversary meal her last night, was unable to finish meal as completely full. No problem though they put rest of meal in containers to bring home.

Pick this restaurant as it was on our way home from a day out. Looked at reviews. The food was great, and the toilets and restaurant where spotless. The service was very efficient and professional but the staff where not very friendly or happy looking.

We arrived at 17:30 and were the first there. Reception was friendly and welcoming. £18.50 for the Sunday menu - not a buffet, but order whatever you like from the Sunday menu. We ordered sesame prawn on toast, chicken satay and seaweed as a starter, crispy aromatic duck (six pancakes and a generous portion of duck). Mains - Szechuan chicken, king prawns with ginger and spring onion, Singapore noodles, special fried rice and shredded chicken. Ok but a bit bland. Would I go again? Probably not but it was a pleasant meal after a lovely day with my partner. I love cooking and I’m a reasonable home cook and very often I think I could have cooked a better meal myself but sometimes it’s just nice to have a meal cooked for you.

My husband and I enjoyed a delicious meal at the Golden Palace, Oxted today. The staff were very helpful, and friendly. We did not have the buffet, Eat as much as you like for £15.50. We decided to have all our favourites from the main menu, which was really enjoyable. Great to find another Chinese restaurant that is open on a Sunday lunch time, from 12.00 - 3.30pm. We have no hesitation in recommending this lovely restaurant, and will be returning!

We were looking for somewhere to eat and decided we would like to eat here so we walked in and both the restaurant staff ignored us. The takeaway staff were literally just standing there so after about 5 minutes we left.

Good food variety of sunday buffet menu

Pork with chilli had a weird sweet flavour that drowned out the chilli. Stir fried vegetables were a soggy mess. To be honest I've eaten better supermarket mircowave Chinese.

This is our favourite takeaway in Oxted. Very fresh and flavoursome. Quick service and great Sunday menu.

Went here for dinner with a friend. I can honestly say the staff were appalling!! I haven’t been anywhere with such miserable rude staff for a long time! They barely spoke, never smiled and were actually very rude. We both work in food outlets and both agreed we’d be sacked if we behaved so badly towards our customers! Food was ok but didn’t make up for the awful customer service. I had never been here before and won’t be returning!!!

The take away I had on Saturday 19th October tasted of nothing but salt, had some left so tried again on Sunday - still far tooooo salty.

The food here is excellent. My husband and I use this restaurant as pre cinema dinner. The only annoying thing is the take away phone rings constantly throughout the restaurant whist you are eating your meal. Doesn’t put us off coming back though.

Visited this Chinese many times now and the food is never a let down! I always leave feeling full and satisfied! There are many vegetarian dishes on offer which are particularly good (tofu skewers!!!). The service is attentive and prompt but not particularly friendly, however the food makes up for this. The dinning area is very cleaned with simplistic Chinese decor. A nice different feel from the other Oxted restaurants.

Title says it all. The chicken is all boiled and rubbery. Of the two Chinese restaurants in oxted this is the better one but still not good and would not return.

Poor quality and greasy slop. Anyone that thinks this is good quality probably doesn't know much about dining out. Certainly not a patch on Royal China restaurants in London.

A ‘quiet’ Chinese restaurant-clean and tidy but staff rather dour-vegetable dishes were good but food overall rather bland and the white wine was warm!

Usually top notch, this time however, they forgot the hoisin sauce for my duck pancakes.

I didn't choose this restaurant to go to..I recently went twice..I did hesitate the second time, but my friend wanted to go...The first time, so a couple of weeks ago..it took most of the meal to eventually get a smile out of the waitress..quite rude I would say ..until much later on. That was hard work ! Food , average..I wouldn't rate it to be honest. wine ok. Second time, a few days later..not really wanting to go, but hey ! we got a smile quite quickly..not overly, but enough to feel somewhat welcome. Food, again, average.

This is a tired old fashioned restaurant with grubby toilets serving tasteless Cantonese style food. The dishes seemed to be highly seasoned with MSG as I had to drink pints of water afterwards to get it out of my system. The waitresses were pretty miserable and appeared to resent us being there. Well the good news is that I won't be troubling them again.

Popped in here for lunch . We've not eaten here for years but as we were in Oxted thought we'd try somewhere different for a change for lunch. The restaurant was spotless and the atmosphere very welcoming. Soup starters were tasty and piping hot, followed by two excellent, huge plates of food - mine a chicken curry and fried rice, my husband a special chow mein with pancake rolls and dipping sauce. Both dishes were delicious and hot. This is somewhere we will visit again very soon as it was reasonably priced and very good value with quick efficient service. Well done Golden Palace.

After being a regular visitor to this restaurant for many years I can honestly say that this evening's visit has left me feeling totally disgusted to a degree that I shall never return to this restaurant again

I've visited the Golden Palace several times over the past few months and it has always been a good experience. The service has been excellent and the food of a good standard and reasonably priced.

Good food, decent portions, predictable prices. Couldn't fault the food, and portion size was definitely above average. Slightly pricey, but Chinese food always is. Cosy atmosphere in the restaurant. All in all, very good.

We get a fair few takeaways from here, but my favourite is to eat in and have a banquet meal. It's always delicious and the employees are helpful and attentive. The décor is a little dated and it's rarely heaving with customers, but don't let that put you off. It's yummy food!

I have been here on and off for 10 years - It is now under it's third new owner and it is worth a visit - Standard Chinese menu but it is so very well cooked and the service is fast. Give it a go if you like Chinese!?

Ran into this place wanting to grab a very quick bite before going to the cinema. We explained we didn't have long so the manager organised our food to be brought really quickly. It was absolutely delicious and came so fast, no mean feat as was a Friday night and the place was filling up fast! I can see why as the quality was very good and the place had a very authentic yet buzzy atmosphere. Our only regret was we didn't have longer to stay and enjoy it more. Will definitely we going back.

Found and discovered this nice restaurant while staying in nearby westerham. Very nice meal and good prices.would definately recommend is staying nearby. Also there was a quaint little cinema opposite.

We had a lovely meal here after visiting the cinema. Between us we had beef in black bean sauce, duck in orange sauce, chicken chow mein and egg fried rice. All of it was nicely cooked and very tasty. The only negative was we didn't see any egg in the fried rice but apart from that all excellent. Staff very friendly and decor clean and lovely.

This is a great Chinese restaurant with an extensive menu. Lots of choice for veggies too! The food is delicious and very reasonable. We took my 3 year old godson with us and the staff were so accommodating, showing him how to use chopsticks. I have eaten here three times in recent months and each time have had a superb meal.Well worth a visit.

It was great to pop into the restaurant having not been in for some time. The menu provides everything you would expect and the food was pleasant enough but it was the exceptionally friendly service that made my evening! Thanks for such a lovely evening.

Lovely friendly - good food - good value for money.Good place to go to if you go to the Barn Theatre or the Cinema (was the Plaza) opposite. Also a good place for party meals - my wife had a special meal there on her birthday.

I had been recommended this restaurant and ordered a takeaway. I suspected something may be a little off when it arrived in about five minutes. Throwing food in the dustbin is not something that I do lightly. The chicken balls were tiny, not a problem in itself but as a result they were mostly batter and two contained no chicken at all. The Singapore noodles were congealed and stuck together and were pretty tasteless. The chilli beef was not crispy and had a taste that reminded us of smelly socks. The kung po prawns were tasteless as if they had been left in hot water for a long time, devoid of any flavor. A £25 disaster. Never again

This place has been taken over a few times but we've always found the food to be nice in here. We often go with a big group of friends as they do a lovely set menu but aren't rigid with their rules around it so you can swap out the things you don't like.There isn't a quality difference in the take away food either and they are both delicious. We particularly like the crispy chilli squid and the Chinese chicken curry.Quick, easy and edible - always good when it comes to dinner!

The golden palace was the first place I ever tried Chinese food as a child so I have fond memories and wanted to take a crowd of friends and family back there to celebrate my birthday. At last minute we amended the table reservation to 19 people, one in a wheelchair. This was no problem to the staff, who were wonderful and attentive, even hilarious! I had seen the previous reviews of trip advisor and was sceptical but thought that the golden palace deserved a chance, especially knowing that people are very quick to go to trip advisor to leave bad reviews but not to leave good ones. The food was plentiful (we all ate from the Sunday order as much as you like menu) and delicious, every singe dish was perfect- I highly recommend the Kung po chicken! My birthday lunch couldn't have gone better, thank you golden palace! And if you're considering eating there but are put off by the reviews just remember, it's in human nature to complain!

We had a take away from this restaurant and it was dreadful. We had sweet and sour chicken and the sauce was so gloopy and thick it was inedible. The rice was hard and cold and the prawn toast didn't seem to have much prawn attached. I found out later it had a food standards hygiene score of 2, it astounds me that a business would not rectify this immediately but clearly the restaurant doesn't care too much. It really isn't that hard to get a 5 so this kitchen must be awful.
