A great restaurant. Really cosy and welcoming. Staff are really friendly. Food was great from the start. All in all my new favourite Chinese restaurant!

A lovely family run business. There are not many Chinese Restaurants around these days and the ones you come across have such mixed reviews you just don't want to chance it. So it's really nice to be able to venture out and eat at this restaurant that offers good honest food and a homely dining experience. The restaurant inside has a lovely decor, a harmonious balance of a traditional Chinese restaurant and a light & clean modern eatery, whilst outside they have maintain what seems like the original shop front that honours the family business. It was our first time eating here and for a weekday night, it was nice to see several groups of locals out dining with friends versus just grabbing a takeaway in front of the TV, there was even a group of 8 people celebrating a birthday. Makes you feel like you have stumbled upon a local gem! There was a little wait for the food to come but the staff did acknowledge this and we felt valued, and good food does take time to cook. The wonton soup was lovely, good sized wontons and cooked just right. The sweet and sour chicken was good too, big sized chicken pieces with nice rich sauce not watery like most other places these days. Portions and pricing were spot on in my opinion and even cheaper than some takeaways. We were too busy tucking in, that we totally forgot to take photos of the dishes! We will next time. Yun the owner took the time to come over ask how our evening was, and it's clear to us that her husband really do take care and pride in everything they do. If you're not in the area, take a little drive and eat in, there's free parking on the road, or order and collect. I'm sure you will enjoy. We will be back again for sure.

This was possibly the worst chinese meal i was unfortunate enough to experience.....Chicken fried rice tasted watery tasteless....Chicken was like rubber and had a strange after taste. It made all chicken dishes we ordered impossible to eat. The bin had a good night as most of the £60 worth of food ended up there. Crispy duck tasted like it was weeks old and dry as a camels testicle. This was a disgusting experience and clearly something isn't right in the kitchen for a so called chef to turn out this type of inedible crud. I feel ripped off. I feel hungry as I ate nothing that night. Why are the standards so low here....we chose it due to having so many good reviews....we sadly cannot echo any of its previous positive feedback.

We have been looking for a good Chinese restaurant for some years and have found most around Croydon very disappointing. That changed yesterday evening when we discovered Caterham Chinese Restaurant. The food was delicious and the service impeccable. It may not look much from the outside but inside it is lovely. We have a great Chinese takeaway near us, but whenever we fancy going out for Chinese in future this is where we will be going.

Great food and great service, was very accommodating for a large party of us to the extent of tweaking the tables and giving us superb vegan options, will definitely use them again when back in the area and certainly recommend to everyone!

First class meal in very pleasant surroundings I especially recommend the Apple Fritters & Ice Cream for dessert I wisely brought home the last of my dinner in a doggy bag to make sure I had room 😋 *And* that's tomorrow's lunch sorted!

Absolutely love this place. Have eaten here many of times both with my partner and larger groups and it's always a lovely fresh meal with great service.

Service was second to none but I thought the food was slightly lacking in flavour. And do not order the salt and pepper squid it was like rubber. The portions were enormous.

My mother and I had dinner here a few days ago. We had a wonderful experience! The dishes were delicious with very fresh ingredients. The sweet and sour pork and chicken with cashews in miso sauce burst with flavors. The prawns were perfectly cooked. I will definitely go back to this relaxing and service oriented restaurant. I highly recommend Caterham Chinese Restaurant to anyone.👍👍

Basing this score on the fact that price, service and atmosphere was absolutely bang on and in line. Its not a cheap takeaway, not quantity over quality, its a nice restaurant with good food and prices in line with that. Inside the restaurant feels welcoming, and the people there equally warming, and nicely decorated for the lantern festival! I've read some previous low comments about cost and taste and not sure what expectations usually are. I can only assume they prefer more cheaper places that laden their food with bad ingredients rather than more authentic cooking. I'm glad that the owners seem to have stayed true to themselves, and continue with what they believe in. Obviously respect that some will have differing opinions, but I can say as a British guy with a Chinese wife, spent time in China, been to many Chinese restaurants, can cook quite a bit of Chinese food too, this is a good selection for good food at a good price.

Best Chinese in Caterham. Eat in or take away. Good selection of dishes, with authentic feel. Friendly staff with a good traditional atmosphere. Waiting times are not long for either take away or service at the table. Food for 4 today £30 with prawn crackers.

I'm only giving them 4 stars as they Don't give prawn crackers with the food and we spent over £50! The food was very good though! Couldn't get through on phone for over jalf an hour, so went in and ordered, they were quite busy so guess we were just unlucky on the phone.

Easily the best Chinese in the area. Quality of food is much higher than most others. If you're looking on Just Eat / Deliveroo etc, it's not on there. But its well worth the journey for pick up.

Good lighting, very attentive service, and food orders very quickly prepared freshly by the kitchen and all our dishes were very tasty. They also do lots of take aways but no deliveries. Parking could be a problem.

Myself and hubby decide to grab something during the week to eat the other night, spur of the moment and decided to pop in here, we have eaten here once before a few years ago and i do remember we liked it so I don't know why after living in Caterham for 20 years we haven't been going more regular! Take away laziness I guess, the food is just incredible and the staff are so lovely, I think its a forgotten about little gem because its on a small parade of shops, food was sizzling and fresh and we are going to be regulars for sure!

I've recently moved into Caterham & I've been somewhat disappointed in the restaurants around here, so I didn't have the highest expectations going here as I randomly stumbled upon it. For some reason the restaurant isn't listed on any of the takeaway applications despite offering takeout, which is a bit odd & hopefully amended in the future. I expected bland British/Chinese food as is customary around here, but oh boy was I pleasantly surprised. The Lemon chicken was amazing, with the perfect balance of sour & sweet giving a refreshing taste. Never had it as good before, which gives me great hope for the rest of their menu. The staff we're kind & I can't wait to go back!

Honestly terrible, we came here due to our regular restaurant being renovated, we ordered over £140 worth of food which was literally double the price of the surrounding restaurants, noodles were lacking flavour and genuinely plain. Chicken was cooked well but had no seasoning. Chicken balls were full of grease and had no flavour, satay sauce was like water and very little of it, this is the first time I have ever left a review but I felt i needed to with the overpriced food served here, this business is in desperate need of help and a different chef, unfortunately calling chicken balls “Chicken in Batter” doesn’t entitled you to overprice them, the fact you sell bottles of champagne does not make customers ignore the fact the food is tasteless.

Really nice family run restaurant with great menu and friendly service. We will return now found locally.

Had a New Year's Eve takeaway last night, which was a perfect way to celebrate. The service was brilliant despite the fact that they were extremely busy and the quality of the food was excellent. We love both the restaurant itself and the unrivalled takeaway service. Well done Yun and Des and all your staff

Best Chinese food for miles around in any direction and simply well executed in its own right. Have collected takeaway many times and eaten in. Most recently (4 days ago) I ate in. Every dish is flavoursome. Sauces, if they are your thing, are a delicious homemade delight. Their crispy duck is a real specialty. We ate there with friends who lived a fair distance that commented it was the best they had had (and it is their favourite Chinese dish). The beef in chilli and black bean sauce was balanced, the sizzling satay prawn had real depth of flavour, the two vegetable dishes we ordered were of excellent texture, not overcooked, and the chicken chow mein was tasty, not greasy, and had a good variety of ingredients. Our guests commented that the interior was warm and cozy. We found the staff friendly and helpful, but then we were also kind to them. Service was speedy and attentive. We forgot to order rice but they had it out for us extremely quickly when we realised our error (it was definitely our fault). Our bill came to £112 for 4 people (excluding tip, but including a nice but well priced Gewürztraminer, a couple of soft drinks, large bottle water, 1 appetiser, half a crispy duck - that's a dozen pancakes so huge - and 3 mains and 2 side veg, steamed and special fried rice). Very fairly priced for such good quality food. We had leftovers to take home which made another meal for two, despite us all leaving very very full that evening.

I did not choose this place. I went with a friend. Sadly I did not read the reviews first. Very expensive in my opinion. Very Small portions compared to other restaurants in the area. Mostly tasteless. Chicken Satay sauce was like water, no flavor. Once was enough. I'm sure there are better places. (In my opinion they should not respond to reviews here because all answer seem to be the same and nothing seems to change.)

Got a table straight away great food good service.

We have been going to Wing's (as we call it, as that is the previous owner's name) since it first opened & have never had anything but the most superb food. It has been run for some time now by Wing's daughter and her husband, without any noticeable difference except for a few menu changes. This place is quite simply unsurpassed. Their food is of the highest quality, always piping hot & absolutely delicious. We often go, en masse, being 9 or more but even this doesn't phase them! The one slight down side is that they get inundated with take-away orders so table service can sometimes be a bit slow but it's always worth the wait!

First time we’ve visited in about 3 years due to Covid etc, Really pleased to say the food, atmosphere and service were just as good as the last time we were there. Great value for money, would highly recommend.

3 times I’ve tried ordering food for a take away and 3 times I’ve been let done. Sorry we are to busy, is what I get told. 20:00 I tried to order. Very frustrating! If you want a Chinese from this restaurant I would recommend ringing the day before so you can give them plenty of time to prep. Not very friendly on the phone. You guys need to liven up.

Very good 👍🏼😊 We ordered 3 starters and 3 mains with 2 sides all delicious. The freshly prepared crispy duck is a must have! I recommend to everyone. I’m happy it’s near our house.

Excellent Chinese restaurant, family run, with authentic and well prepared food. They use better ingredients than most Chinese restaurants I visited in the area and the result is delicious food, a lot tastier than your typical take away (for example, dips and sauces are made in house). It became our preferred option for Chinese food in South of London.

The family run business ALWAYS go out of their way to make the customer welcome and I always choose to return to this restaurant for take away dishes. They continue to provide excellent food, a great atmosphere and more importantly have continued to look after their customers and own staff welfare during the challenges over the past two years. I read some negative comments of the reviews, as a customer you have a choice to eat somewhere else or keep returning as a loyal customer. My choice is to return and support local business.

Fantastic food in a relaxed atmosphere

Have always heard that this restaurant was very good. It was only ok for me, the squid l ordered was quite rubbery and the chicken's texture felt like it had alot of water in it. Service was very friendly, on the down side there was alot of children running around.

This is the third time my partner and I have visited the Caterham Chinese although our friend we were dining with is a regular customer. The food was absolutely exquisite. We had the set meal for three people, there was so much food we couldn’t eat it all and the staff offered for it to be packed up and for us to take it home. The staff were so nice and friendly, passionate about ensuring we had a good experience and the ambiance was great. The food is reasonably priced and great value for money. We would thoroughly recommend you give this family run restaurant a visit.

We had a take away meal last night ,first time at this restaurant read reviews before we ordered all seemed to be good reviews.We ordered the set meal for two,we have to say this is the worst Chinese meal we have had the beef in the meal was tough and chewy,the chicken curry had a near black sauce and didn’t taste like a curry ,we were very disappointed the meal cost us £38 pounds only to be thrown in the bin.We won’t be going there again

I'm a regular customer at this great restaurant. I've sampled widely across the menu and have found many dishes that I keep coming back to. I was surprised about the comments by the recent reviewer: I've eaten and enjoyed the Singapore noodles on several occasions and the dish certainly contains a much longer list of ingredients than suggested. But like the reviewer I've also travelled regularly to China and as you would expect it's different. Just like eating food in an Italian restaurant in the UK compared to Italy: they're different. I had salt and pepper prawns, these were the worsed examples, the ratio of prawns, which were tiny, to greasy batter made them indigestible. Next was the pork dumplings, I can only imagine these had been frozen and reheated, the dumpling pastry was tough and dry, the filling was ok, but with little seasoning and no liquor, as it should be if made fresh. Next was the singapore noodles that had the minimum of ingredients for this traditional uk/us dish, I think there were indeed rice noodles, onion and red pepper, nothing else I could see or taste. Anyone can find a recipe for this dish. Missing, or minimal, ingredients that I have found in other restaurants: cabbage, beansprouts, chilli, curry powder, sesame oil, carrot, egg, prawns, pork, chicken etc. It is a mystery to me how such a restaurant can remain in business, and it is a sit down restaurant as well as a takeaway! The above was not good value at £20. Avoid.

Been coming here for years as it is only down the road, but would still go there if it was 50 miles away. Superb food served by a lovely family.

Just had a takeaway meal there. The vegetable in the vegetable chow mein was literally raw. The squid from the salt and chilli squid it was hard and cold. The Chinese roast duck was as tough as old bones. The rest was satisfactory.

My sister and her partner who are over from canada said this is without doubt the best chinese food they have ever tasted. As we have been coming here and ordering takeaways for years, the rest of our family are in complete agreement. Do not bother trying anywhere else in the area, nothing compares to Caterham Chinese. Well done to all the staff

Food tasted great but very very very small portions for takeaway as im still hungry. May be best to charge a couple pound more and get the same size portions that we get each week from all the other Chinese takeaways. Very small containers are used, not the standard size.

Had my first take away from Caterham Chinese and the food was great. Everything tasted so much better than other Chinese and the chili beef was the best I've had for many years. Staff were very nice and polite.

Really great food, best I have ever eaten . Only criticism was the scallop dish only had 4 scallops!

Went for an early dinner with the family. We were the first to arrive (we waited for them to open) and was amazed to see how many take away orders they took within the first five minutes of us being there and of which they continued to take throughout the time that we were there. The restaurant also filled up quickly being a weekend, the service i would say was just right..efficient...not too fast and not too slow (though 2 members of staff did apologise for the slow service... which it really wasn't for a busy weekend...I've eaten in restaurants where we've waitedan hour between each course before!!). The staff as mentioned were all extremely busy but they were still very friendly and happy when dealing with us which makes a world of difference when you are out for a nice evening meal. Too often busy restaurants are filled with miserable couldn't care less staff... this was refreshing! Foodwise...absolutely delicious. Everything was FRESHLY cooked with fresh ingredients. I have not had a chinese meal in a looong time because quite frankly they usually all taste the same...brightly coloured, stodgy... veg cooked to death in a suspect gelatinous sauce... overcooked balls of some sort. Every bite of everything is so super oily that you feel like you need a week of detox to get rid of it all from your body! .... BUT here it is such a revelation to enjoy every single mouthful....and NOTHING was oily! The crispy duck was SO So good!!! Perfectly cooked!! The sweet and sour King Prawns was to die for!! Honestly we couldn't stop talking about it on our drive home! This restaurant was where my daughter wanted to come and i did turn my nose up at the thought of a Chinese meal out ....but I am definitely a convert!! WE WILL BE BACK (might try a takeaway next week!)!!!

Our family group of four visited the Caterham Chinese having booked earlier that day. We were greeted by a very friendly waitress, our orders were taken promptly and all our questions regarding menu options answered either by the waitress or one of her colleagues if she was unsure.We ordered the h’ors d’oeuvres for three and chicken satay for starters. The food was delicious and plentiful and had I known there’d be so much I would have ordered less for our main meal. However it was all delicious and, we thought, very reasonably priced. Including five beers and five fruit juices our bill was only a few pounds above £100 (though we didn’t have anything like lobster or crispy duck which would obviously be more costly). My only criticism would be that some dishes arrived a few minutes later than others but that was only a minor point.The restaurant was very busy including a birthday party (cake brought out and celebrant serenaded) and a steady stream of takeaway customers, but the staff were very efficient and dealt with us professionally, promptly and in a very friendly manner.Would definitely recommend.

We had high hopes when we went to this restaurant but were overall disappointed. The waitress (wearing the black turtleneck) was too busy setting up tables rather than welcoming us and seating us down. The drinks were bought to us rather slowly and the overall service was not great. I ordered the Beef Chow Mein and asked for it to be 'slightly spicier than usual' to which she wrote down 'Extra Spicy'. My wife ordered the Beef in Black Bean Sauce and it was very good along with egg fried rice. My dish was the issue as it was volcanic in flavour!!!! I was sick the next day... At the end of the meal I was told to book next time as they can be busy, but this could have been relayed to us in a more friendly way. The food was overall average and the service was not up to par. The mini vegetarian spring rolls were of poor quality and frozen (please see pictures). Overall, a poor experience.

I have lived in. Caterham for a while and can't believe I have never eaten in here before. Me and my partner really enjoyed it. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Would definitely recommend and we will most definitely be back again.

I came to this lovely family-run restaurant with a friend for probably the gazillionth time and, as always, I was not disappointed. Excellent food, excellent service, what more could you ask for? Highly recommend.

Caterham Chinese is the best Chinese restaurant in the Whyteleafe/Caterham area, and we had another lovely meal when visiting my parents a couple of weekends ago. Chinese food can be quite greasy, but everything here is always freshly prepared and packed with flavour. The portions are also very generous. Now the tapas bar in Whyteleafe has moved to Horley, I imagine we’ll be eating here more often. And that’s definitely not a bad thing!
