The wings and chips are nice chips especially chunky

Ordered via just eat, food went missing and was hung up on twice and told “can’t help, call just eat”

this is under new managment i have ordered fish & meal 2( chicken, wings and chips ) absolute disgrace fish was half cooked & chicken does not have any taste. we had to chuck them in the bin. staff is nice and polite however need to focus on food quality.

The worst chips I have ever tasted, obviously refried old chips and definitely not fresh oil as smelt nasty and left a bad taste. All 3 of us did not eat more than a few of the chips each before throwing them away. The only good thing if they were edible was portion size. Shame as they ended in the bin. Real shame as previous owners had great business and were very popular.

Ordered via Uber eats and I know they add extra so everything seems more expensive but I paid £4.50 for large chips and there was barely enough for two people. Unfortunate because the food actually tastes okay (little bit on the cold side, but they could be due to delivery driver) I’m appalled to be honest that they even send them as a large! I feel robbed!

Ordered a delivery which was super fast but the chips were so old and stale that they were cold. Like they had been left on the counter for an hour or so. Not even like warm. Shop didn’t offer to replace. Just said sorry. Disgusting.

Second time getting fish from it. Fresh, delicious. Fresh oil and staff keeps up good cleanliness and hygiene. Will definitely keep using Golden Fry. Keep up the good work lads👍

Purchased 2 lots of sausage and chips. To be honest not very good chips, didn't really have the taste and much better is available locally. Sausages ok and price was comparable to local average. Guy who served us was friendly enough. Sadly I wouldn't be in a rush to go back, maybe I was just unlucky

Good points - 'small' chips portion was substantial, tasty savaloy with some spice in it. Weak point - cooks chips as ordered, so they are very hot and not properly drained. Needed several minutes exposure before they were cool enough to eat

Sausages, saveloys , chips , pies , chicken ........ All good so far. Reasonably priced and local. Staff are friendly enough and give a decent level of customer service. Only one issue and that was with an apple pie but could be a one off. Looked very clean when I went and was in peak times. Well managed and good food ! Cheers guys !

Awful... no chicken cooked. Told would be a 15 min wait.. fair enough only to be told another 15 minutes. Joke

Haven't eaten fish and chips for ages. The offering bought on Thursday last was overcooked. Therefore not pleasent.

This place was owend by a Chinese couple an sold great fish n chips now these new people have taken over can't bearly speak a word of English false advertising re cook old stock seriously do no order from here

THIS IS NO LONGER UNDER THE SAME MANAGEMENT. SUCH A SHAME!! Only ordered chips on this occasion and they were awfully undercooked and too greasy. Will not be returning. Need to hunt for another good chippy :( PREVIOUS OWNERS Been visiting this great little fish and chip shop, for just over 1 year- always cooked fresh and great prices. Chunky chips and great cod. Large really means large. We don;t go anywhere else for our fish supper. Highly recommend!

Chips were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Still not the best but good. The chicken was amazing, juicy and the seasoning was great. The price was great too and staff was friendly. I would recommend despite the bad reviews

They advertise as halal, but you can print the same certificate of in Google. Be very skeptical. Ask to see their suppliers or invoices. Don't trust a halal logo.

Absolute worst chips ever had! Freshly cooked but very under cooked and hard! Wouldn’t even rate 1 star. Not edible at all.

TLDR: Fish bland, chips undercooked, staff undertrained. Not what it used to be. I went there on the 4th of October (today) and got a large fish and chips. I used to frequent that place but today I noticed that the staff and menu changed and not for the better. I first asked if they still have mushy peas, since it wasn't on the menu. What I got two minutes of clarification and a guy who REALLY doesn't know his onions: pizza? Chicken piece? At this point I gave up one peas, which considering it's a chippie staple really should still be on the menu, and ordered a large fish and chips. BTW they didn't double check if I wanted the large chips or regular chips but that one was my bad given how I knew that neither of the two men had even a basic grasp of the language. Also they took over a minute trying to find the ketchup- which was in a bright red bottle on the counter with all the other sauces. But all of that is small fry compared to the real gripe: the food. I used to frequent this place because the fish used be the best I ever had-buttery, detectably savory and a light touch of spice. Today I got the polar opposite, not only has it somehow tasted dry, despite being fresh-all semblance of flavour has left the building. Whilst before the batter brovided a nice bit of flavour to the fillet-this time it was only there to clock in and not do anything of worth. The chips were their own victorian freak show-not only I gkt my salt vinegar and ketchup on about the 1/3 of the chips and there wasn't much of it. The rest being as bland as the fish. The lot was also at least a minute and a half undercooked. Think al-dente chips. Now correct me if I am wrong, but chips should be light on the inside & crisp on the outside. The latter isn't ways a possibility due to the vinegar but A: there was hardly any vinegar to begin with and B: they used to be at least a bit crispy despite the vinegar. Fancy Fry, what happened? I am not writing this just to vent-I want you to do better. The people deserve better. Re-look into how you're preparing your fish, cook your chips longer and for the love of God, train your staff. Because this whole joint reaks of managerial apathy. Because the staff was polite and enthusiastic, but there wasn't even a hint of experience or a trace of training, and that is just plain sad. I finished the fish with a frown and couldn't stomach half of my chips-the drink was the best part of that meal. I don't think I will be coming back, but please do better. Nobody deserves the "Clinically-Depressed Meal" that I had.

Note now has a new owner. Avoid at all costs. Save ya money. Food is soggy from fresh or its dry from sitting in the heaters all day lol. Not even cooked. That's even if ya order is right. English is zero. Oh an the curry sauce i dont even wanna get started on 😂

I first went to this fish and chip shop around three months ago and the food was grim. The fish wasn't cooked and the batter was a light gold on the outside, inside it was raw white, slimy, totally raw batter. I decided I wouldn't go back again but hunger and the vain hope it was an off night I went back this evening. Cod, chips and peas that was even worse than the first time. Well the peas and chips were okayish but the fish itself was so uncooked it was one step away from sushi and again the batter was just slime. Clearly the people running this place don't eat their own food, if they did they would realise they don't know how to cook battered fish. The most important issue though is that the fish isn't getting up to temperature which puts people's health at risk. I won't be stupid enough to go back!

Quality fish and chips, the best around .

Lovely cod cooked to perfection and portion size of chips is just right but there is not much choice even though the menu given has a good selection as your average fish and chip shop the reality is different. But if you want tasty fish, meat pies and chips "Try Golden Fry" it's pretty good

The most amazing chips, lovely and crisp. The fish cakes are great and the gravy is lovely with its hint of Chinese bbq sauce to it. Highly Recommended.

Food is good here reasonably priced only downside sometimes the chips taste like the cooking oil needs changing

I think this is the best fish and chip shop in Chatham, fish is always cook fresh to order with the best light crispy coating.

When I visit here,I always get a very good take away,nice owners,great portion,and excellent value for money,visit here and you shall not be disappointed.chips taste wonderful not soggy or greasy.take away shop always looks clean.

A small fish and chip shop with no sit down/eat in option. Nice fish and chips to takeaway. Sells everything else you would expect too - battered sausages, pies, mushy peas etc

Went at 1:30pm just before closing and ordered chips. A Very limited menu for Vegans however their chips where delicious! Soft! And goes well with chilli sauces. If you live locally to the Golden Fry and looking for a quick bite to eat, it is definitely worth visiting. In addition to tasty chips it's is incredibly clean and the cooking facilities are well maintained to the point where you can see the metal shine. I only rate it 4 stars because there are no vegan options outside of the chips.

New to area tried this place a few times now always cook my chips fresh and owners are very polite and friendly and have a big TV to watch while you wait for your food.

There are no opening hours, they only open when they feel like it. It was about 3pm one weekday when I decided to go for a stroll. On my merry way, I fancied some fish and chips, and I see this place - how convenient! I shall just pop in and give the order so that I can trade my money for food. I see a man in work uniform reading a newspaper on the counter, so they must be open right? Wrong. I pushed into a locked door and the man just stared at me through the glass window. Apart from this single occasion, some of the new owners seem to be friendly people.
