Golden Fry in Chelmsford

I had a very long day!! And this was delicious, hot, loved it. Thank you 😊

Needs must one evening a couple of weeks ago as our preferred restaurant had closed. The fish and chips were not great. The batter was damp and oily which congealed as it cooled. The portions compared to other local fish and chips are small for the price. We live round the corner from this so it is a local but would definitely prefer to drive further afield again in the future.

Recently stopped for the apparently fresh rock eel ,fish and chips only to get the worst food poisoning ,which has me admitted to broomfield hospital,with fluid loss and severe sickness diarrhea and cramps,never again would I go there

Very friendly and the fish was freshly cooked, but I found the fish lacked sufficient fleshy firmness.

Fair prices, great portions and well cooked. Will visit again.

Absoloutly shocking food. Hard greasy chips, Wouldn't feed the battered sausage to my dog, curry sauce is disgusting looks more like mushy peas

Very Good Sized Portions of Chips and always Freshly cooked. I personally would have like the Chips to have been cooked for a little longer as I prefer them slightly more crispy, but other than that they were fine. The order I placed was for 7 People and was all Freshly made on arrival. The Large Cod that was ordered was well cooked and the size was very large and of good value. Battered Sausages and Fishcakes were also ordered and these were all nice. Staff were friendly and the prices for the portion sizes was reasonable.

What a horrible place to eat from I grabbed sausage battered and chips . Well chips soggy and greasy as hell and tasted funny the sausage was awful I couldn’t eat it tasted like old oil and had a fishy taste and was burnt and even more greasy than the chips I certainly will never eat here again and for over a £5 I should have just gone elsewhere

It's a decent quality chip shop, but was served by a very rude man who gave me a tiny portion of chips and charged me full price for the left overs. Wont be back again sadly after that. In hard times you want to support people, so it's sad to have to write a negative review for your local chip shop. All he needed to do was be kind, and I wouldn't be here writing this review.

Golden Fry has got to be one of the best fish and chip shops in Chelmsford. It's just a shame they don't deliver.

Medium cod and chips, not only did they manage to over cook the cod (cremated) but the chips were disgusting oily and not crispy at all will not be going back ever.

Got a pensioner’s cod and chips for one of my clients great service very substantial meal for £3:50 my client loved it

It is worth queuing here for food (takeaway only) as it is delicious and generous in quantity. It is always busy, but nobody complains.

Never having used this takeaway before, I was very impressed with the quality and value for money of the fish and chips. Meal for four cost less than £25. There was a wide variety of food options available in addition to the fish

Amazing, food is always good. And at a good price.

Normally the food is amazing with large portion sizes. Lovely family run business who aways greet you with a smile. Not sure what happened tonight but food was really greasy and half my chips weren't cooked although looked well done! Awful! You need to teach your staff some manners too as the bigger lady (sorry not meant to sound rude!) comes accross arrogant and is really rude! Will try again in a few weeks, hopefully will be back to the normal lovey food

Food normally lovely and big portions but tonight, unfortunately, was awful! Chips looked overcooked but half of mine were raw and crunchy and the battered cod was wet and swimming in oil! Such a shame! Staff are lovely except for the larger lady that served me this evening was very rude and full of attitude?! Shame as everyone else in the shop are really kind and polite. Hopefully better next week when we come again.

Good service, good portion sizes and always tasty. We drive here from Baddow although there is a chippy in the Vineyards ...the extra effort is well worth it

Was going to have fish and chips tonight, but as they dont take card and I will not carry cash due to the Covid19 virus. I've opted for a Chinese takeaway from eden garden where I can pay over the phone. Sorry chippy. Your food Is nice. But get with the times.

Solid food and a good Friday night dinner

Local chippy, staff are polite, food is reasonably priced. Chips are good, usually steer away from the fish but other sides are good. Best curry sauce I've had in a while and don't know how they make it like that! Defo worth a try if you fancy a change. Oh, and it's cash only but there are 2 cash points in the parade (1 in co-op)

Went here for lunch stood at counter for ten minutes and no-one acknowledged me and served everyone around me. Just lost out on a order for 15 people on site. Won't waste time here again. Got a whole building site of angry builders. Thanks golden fry

Handy always friendly and helpful

Dropped son off at Tutor and had chips and jumbo sausage in the car with the wife. Lovely chips and sausage very nice too. Fast service and friendly staff.

Always reliably lovely white flaky cod and lots of chips. Great takeaway. Cash only it does get busy but staff clear quickly

This is a very good typical chippy. Good portion size of chips the large size is good value food always cooked well hot and good quality. Service is prompt and you can even call ahead to cook anything if you are in a long queue usually long wait friday and at the weekend.

First few times where good but lately the chips haven't been that good... some even undercooked.

Go to Mr Fish in Galleywood instead if you can. Fish in this place is far too greasy and service not exactly friendly unless you’ve been going for over 20 years.

Our local chippy since moving house and tried them for the first time last night. Service was quick and prices fine. However, lots of excess batter and not so much fish, and it was exceptionally greasy. Definitely had better elsewhere.

Long running chippy, Chips always crisp and service quick, even when there is a queue it goes down quickly.

This is our local chippy, always had nice takeaways from here, usually cooked to order. Friday nights do get rather busy, so you may have to queue a while, but it's worth the wait, as the food is cooked really well.

Had large cod and chips the other evening,although the chips were great the fish was very poor.It was very thin for a large cod the batter was yellow and soggy and the colour of the fish was a reddy grey,not nice white chunks you would expect to get with cod.Perhaps it wasn't? Will not go again.

Well worth your money. Large fish is a good size and not greasy. The rock eel I had tonight was lovely and freshly cooked. The chips are good and again not greasy. We've been to other well named fish & chips shops in Chelmsford and had awful greasy food who rely on their name. This chip shop is good. Sometimes the queue is out of the door which tells you something. Recommended.

Fish and chips for hubby and two children, aged 6 and 4. Always goes down well, childrens plates cleared which is always a good sign, friendly staff, long queues - because its very popular but staff serve as fast as they can!

This is our local Fish and Chip shop, unfortunately the food has gone down hill from what it used to be, the shop needs to change its brand of cooking oil, as the taste of the chips is really not nice and being bright yellow does not look good, also my wife has said the batter is now too thick, Golden Fry take note your food isn't that good anymore! It's a shame....
