Golden Fry in Sunderland

Got to be the worst fish and chips I've ever had anywhere and I've had a good few in my 85 years of life, will never use this place again.

Cod bites were lovely as had to wait for them. Chips disappointed today. Usually nice.

Went in for a quick dinner patty and chips ended up with food poisoning really ill for a week shop would not let me speak to the manager be aware

Wouldn't re commend just has fish and chips Well if that's what they call it chips half cooked fish was the thinnest I have ever seen and after a bitr feels like I have had a cup of Greece rotting!

Chips not cooked properly still hard. Pizza base very doughy not cooked properly and the bottle of coke that was sent in a week out of date!

Wanted cheesy chips and garlic sauce the chips I got were scraps and I couldn’t even eat it and the women who served me was absolutely off her head gurning away absolutely disgusting won’t be returning

Placed order yesterday 1.15 order turned up 2.25. Freezing cold unfit to eat went in bin never again lesson to learn

Normally quite a decent fish shop, some days are hit and miss but that’s life. Burgers are great, pizzas amazing and the kebab and chicken are very well done.

Got a 12 inch chef's special and I can honestly say it was up there with the worst and considering it was £10 it should have been way better. Kebab meat was burnt and overall didn't taste nice at all. If your going to charge domino's prices atleast put some effort into it.

Really disappointed, called to put my order in so not to waited asked to give them a minute, after five i put the phone down, it then took another five more minutes to get through, order was 1 large fish and chips, 1 chicken wrap, 1 portion of chips,1tray of donna meat, 1 small garlic sauce, at a grand total of £27.00 the girl said 20mins, went 20mins after to wait a further 20mins in the shop to get home and the donner meat smothered in garlic sauce which absolutely looked disgusting and you couldn't taste the meat, Sorry but will think twice about hoing again

Best Chippy ever, I would not use anywhere else :), Prompt online delivery service, genuinely happy delivery staff, great Fish, chips curry sauce and battered sausage, delivered piping Hot, keep up the good work and good food, If I was not on a diet I would order every week! damn diets eh

Waited far too long for what we had ordered. Got back to base only to then realise the pop we bought were all out of date. If something as simple as a bottle of pop is out of date, whatelse is? Not to mention the extortion price of £2 for a 380ml bottle! Whole shop just seemed in a rush with not a lot getting handed out.

Had fish + chips from this chippy this evening and they were very nice.The chips could have been done a little longer for my preference - browner - but lots of people would say they are burnt.Will return as the fish was lovely and it was £7.50 for a large one.

Chicken kebab, smothered in tikka sauce, very fatty chicken, looked like they have used leftovers from a cooked chicken and chucked in a pot of tikka sauce to disguise meat, chucked in bin. Chicken kebab should be fresh chicken breast marinated in lemon and coriander.not scrappy fatty bits. Absolutely disgusting. Only nice part was a young girl serving who was friendly and polite.

Am is lovely and remembers her customers and treat you with great respect just like a dear friend xxx

Ordered for collection as I was on a tight time schedule, they said collect in 15 mins I turned up & stood in the queue like a lemon for 10 mins before anyone even acknowledged me. When they finally did it turns out they hadn’t even put the food in. Champion 👍🏼

Ordered via app 2 trays of meat with one garlic and one chili sauce for delivery. When meat came both trays of meat were both covered in garlic and chili and freezing cold. Rang up to complain and spoke to a VERY RUDE woman who said it was MY fault.

I love this place, somehow it manages to hit just right in everything. I expected the pizzas to be mediocre, but damn was I wrong, Golden Fry is gorgeous in everyway.

Very pleasant staff and very, very generous portions of chips. Been twice very recently and will be back. The missus often calls on a Thursday for lunch.

Been using this fish shop for a couple of years and it’s never been great but was good enough when in a hurry to get something quick and easy. Lately it’s gone downhill rapidly and I wouldn’t recommend anyone to eat from here. The list of problems I’ve encountered are endless with raw soggy batter on burgers, sausages etc, cold kebab meat, undercooked chips and just the general way they slop everything together. As well as all this the standard of cleanliness seems to have slipped as well

Didn’t get my full order and also delivered to incorrect postcode also order was cold by the time we received it

Waited 2hours for our order to arrive, only to find half of it missing and stone cold. Not impressed.

Well sometime since I have had a takeaway. Ordered pensioners special of fish n chips, curry sauce and a small battered sausage. Chips very nice, fish lovely, curry sauce brill and battered sausage never saw the plate just my gob. Impressed very impressed. Delivered on time by a nice lady. Thank you for my lovely tea and yes you are my go to for a chippy tea and well done for the service, the chefs and the delivery staff. You are amazing thank you

Really good chippy with a large range of food, either traditional fish & chips and other usual chippy food or great pizza, well worth a visit, especially if you're starving, the portions are well sized 👍

We have been going to golden fry at fencehouses for 15 years and last night we ordered from them as previous night and spend quite a lot found a hair in my food rang no apology the owner just said another bag of chips or money back and would collect the food she never turned up very disappointed and discussed after all these years have lost a very good customer

Found the chippy by accident but een going for 3 years and never had any problems with the meals Great service keep it up

on this visit, fried chicken? fried with fish , horrible, rang and would replace food, but how all is busy said no.

We regularly use the golden fry in fence houses and have done for a few years now. On entering the shop the owners regularly great us with a smile always fab food at a great price, we have been very happy with the service

Absolutely devastated with my order, ordered just up the road and was still 10 minutes late then it comes and chips was a small portion with hardly any gravy. Pizza was all squashed and didn't come with the chilli base i asked for.

Absolutely disgusting , £9-00 for a chicken kebab , slimey bits of skin coated in tandoori sauce . Can't even give it 1 star , repulsive

Had fish and chips from here last night, they were absolutely beautiful.

I've been going to this takeaway (which isn't a restaurant of any sort) for at least 15 years and have never had bad food. The staff are always friendly and helpful (except just once from a new-starter who didn't last long at the job - clearly not suited to it). It would seem it's easier to use Tripadvisor for a good-old whinge rather than than pay a compliment when it's deserved...

This is honestly the best chip shop I have come across in quite a long time. Ive tried quite a few things from their menu but must say their kebabs and pizzas are to die for🤤🤤.. 10000% would recommend to a friend

All different types of food, and everything I've tried so far has been top notch Went from 5 to 2 star , stopped going here due burnt food , wrong order , staff who call the customer a lier even tho they contradicted themselves and just constantly late , havnt been back and used to go here atleast twice a week

Can't believe that this chip shop is charging the prices they're charging for a small chips £3.50 for a small chips when down the road there's a little Chip shop called listers who's chips are beautiful and the prices are cheap please people if you live in this area go to listers they are excellent on service to this company Golden Fry why is terrible I will never eat there and when they told me the price of the chips I walked out.

I ordered a meal with my family. I got told the food would be delivered in less than an hour. It arrived 1 hour and 30 mins later, cold! I rang the shop to get hung up on then when they eventually answered I got told they would send another lot out in 30 mins. We could either wait (2 hours in total) or get my money back and send the food back. So I ended up getting money back and returning food. Now I've gone elsewhere to get a take away. So hopefully I'll eat eventually. The attitude from the shop staff and delivery driver was awful. I will not be going back as my previous order took over 1 hour 30 mins and the food isn't nice.

Went to the establishment last night and was met by staff who couldn't conjour up a smile between them, grunted in reply when making an order and an over all very rude manner in which they dealt with me as a customer which they won't see again. The less said about the slop i was served the better...i was hoping the food could have made up for it, the only reason they get one star is the price was reasonable

Ordered from here this evening at 8pm was told delivery would be an hour, its now 10.15pm and still waiting, rang shop to be told been really busy delivery will be with you soon, if your shop is that busy surely you would employ more drivers, very disappointed

Lovely chippy, fish pieces and chips would do two people, kids fish pieces meal would feed an adult, great quality.

Don't order from here if you don't want to be told to eff off tryed to order value box asked if I could have half dinner half chick told no mmm why I asked because manager says you can't so asked to speak to manager he's on holiday no he's has a cold and on the sick basical got told to to go away and have intercourse with my self also they keep hold of your address with your number witch gose against GDPR law they so told me that there delivery ant turned up load of rubbish if you want to be abused please order for. Here go a head by the way who calls there manager jazz also I have found out they DO NOT to you that there food is HALA KILLED WROUNG

People serving are very friendly and very efficient. Menu is huge and it serves kebabs and pizzas which are spot on. Fish and chips have always been to a high standard and it's consistently brilliant.

Firstly this review is solely my experience and 100 % genuine. I have recently had a chicken breast done in batter and quite frankly ....it went in the bin! It was terrible ...the batter was soggy ....and the chicken just didn't seem fresh at all and was very fatty. Very disappointing. Bye bye.

Well I have ordered from here for over 10 years it’s always been my favourite chippy, portions massive and pizzas lush.Tonight I ordered a pensioners fish and chips (which has always been massive and more than enough for me) the fish was a third of the size it used to be, the chips were awful, skanky and hardly edible.So disappointed. I don’t think it’s been took over but they had a revamp and got new fryers and this was the biggest mistake they could’ve made. Won’t ever go back now.

I go here all the time wouldn’t go to any other chippy. The food I always cooked fresh and the fish is huge! Yes on occasions they have missed a small thing off my order like a sauce but always rectified it. It does get so busy so I understand but it’s just lush. It is well worth a try

This is the last time we order here used to use weekly but never again always good missing or not cook correctly ordered cheesy chips tonight tasted sour rang the shop and they replied with they have sold a lot of cheesy chips and wraps tonight so it must be your taste buds am furious don’t use there rubbish

ordered food from here and we had a hair in the batter on the sausage, it wasnt just lyibg on the top it was actually in the batter as if the hair had been cooked with it, not only that when we received the order they had it wrong, never charged for certain items and missed off ones we had paid for, when called up we got nothing but rudeness and the customer service was shocking, will never order from them again, order was 35pound aswel, their loss, disgusting

My favourite takeaway ONLY Fish & Chip shop in Northumbria :-) The most hugest portions you'd ever want to hope for if you are up to the challenge, although to be honest, now that I don't have my cat Taz to share my portion of fried cod with, 'I' usually opt for the less challenging 'Pensioners Portion', which includes an extra sundry as a bonus usually, a choice of which I take the mushy peas option ~ Yummy! :-) The fish, you have either a choice of cod OR haddock for around the same price, is always sublimely fried with a crispy exterior, whilst the inner white flakes retain their moistness without any suggestion of being undercooked :-) You get the 'with or without extra batter' Northerner's choice ~ of which I usually take the latter option ;-)
